That interviewer is so fantastic, so respectful and knows it’s not about himself. It’s about Crumb. Wow. I am so impressed. Other interviewers should take note.
Robert Crumb's comic strips and some of his paintings/drawings have had so profoundly influence on me ever since i discovered him in his 1994 documentary that i can never get over it. I always think about him. His honesty on human nature and social hypocrisy maybe has never been expressed by any other artist in all the history of art. Even his artistic style is profoundly influential to me. Robert Crumb is one of the greatest American artists, yet most people in his country look down on him and the media distant themselves from him, only because he's honest. That's why he lives in France. It looks like honesty has no room anywhere in this world. LIES are the only things "they" always teach us to learn and expect us to say. A friend gave me a copy of Crumb in 1996. He told me I’d really like it and I did. I’ve watched it many times. I have that Genesis book. I had no interest in reading that until getting it.
+Geoff Taylor I knooooow. I'm bummed about the sound quality too. It wasn't a scheduled interview, so we had a very bare-bones, on-the-fly, set-up. -Janelle
+LastGaspTV and it was set up wrong! Thus the cycle hum that ruined the OK audio. Nothing you can do about dampening an open set like that except to be closer to your subjects and not have plugs in wrong holes :/
My man!!! I follow the whole family with great enthusiasm. I own almost every comic done, my only complaint is the repetition I find in the comics/books I buy. Whoever publishes his stuff (or him) should quit allowing repeats of the same material, I'm almost mad, but I'll forgive him.
Interestingly, he doesn't seem so weird in person. A lot of the things he says may be unconventional, but he's not quite the anxious, awkward nerd one might expect.
Robert is so prolific that it amazes me he ever found time to sit for an interview. Modern "fine art" is currently in such a wastebin of no-talent that I've decided Robert Crumb is the best living artist.
Yeah, he’s a good pick. There’s also Alex Grey. He’s an amazingly visionary artist. Do look at his work. Very different from Crumb, but astonishingly good.
@@FeatnikSF The man was not visible and was not introduced so whyyy would someone be expected to know who he is? You are riddled with bias and snobbim.

i like his speech bubbles haha. all that desperate und absolute useless tries to express yourself or tryin to communicate to others and its always either anger, hate or brutal assaults or bizarre rituals to hide evrything ;D- he really know his own species very well. ^^
R. Crumb had the most screwed up family I have ever seen. I saw a documentary about them many years ago. It is a sad story. I think his brother committed suicide.
Maybe sprinkle some respect on that. And also, there are many, many dysfunctional families...which you either mostly don't see, or it's masked with faux-functionalism.
Robert Crumb is a freaking GENIOUS. He should do a cartoon about the life of Muhammad (respectfully adhering to the Hadith in all its gore and violence). something like his version of genesis. It would be historically significant. He's the iconic comic artist of the 20th century. I still have issues of ZAP and Weirdo. Thanks for posting this interview.
Wtf. Why would he have to do that? You do it if thats something you desperately want. Or can you only make passive agressive youtube comments. Crumb is not about having to purposely look down upon and marginalise others. Unlike many of your kind. Maybe you should broaden your tiny paradigm, ironically it is the only way you could hold on to your biased arrogance though. Yugh

I love how he just laughs off all of life. He sees it for the absurdity it is.
Over the years I’ve realized he sounds and acts a lot like Krist Novoselic.

The interviewers are knowledgeable and relaxed, so Crumb gives a good interview.

Not only an amazing artist.. but also a Trash Culture expert as well.
In my head Robert is the old Maynard G Krebs. Or the old Jughead Jones.
the sound is terrible!!

I'm a huge fan but he definitely seemed like an anxious, awkward nerd (and more) in the interviews from
his California home. Loved it! : )
It's interesting how complete social maladjustment can, with a spark of real talent, create a real genius.
audio, audio, audio???
what are the names of the female cartoonists he's talking about Elenor who? Dori?
Dori Seda and Elinore Norflus

(1967 if you count Issue # 0 that is.)
💘
His name is ROBERT not R.
Does anyone know what comic strip they are referring to when they mention the frog strip created by the homeless guy?
Dylan Armstrong Eugene Teal. Go google him.
The guy off camera remembers more than Crumb.
The "guy off camera" is the publisher of Last Gasp, Ron Turner. The interview takes place in the Last Gasp warehouse.
@@FeatnikSF I prefer: guy off camera. But your snobby reply was hilarious tho
