Cat learned very quickly the short comings of this cab designed. Cramped, hot, and loud. The new wider box style cab hit the market in 1977, and was worlds better. Still cool to see some of the older ones still running though.

I really enjoy watching the video and then reading some of the comments where people have used/worked on these machines. Very cool, thank you!

Great vid.... I remember watching many of these "pointy cab" 245's growing up in the early 80s.... Time just passes by, it is hard to believe that was nearly 40 years ago at this point.

Cool, I ran one very similar to that in the early '90. It might have been a "B" model. Too long ago to remember. Thanks for the look back in time.

I repaired and maintained several of these machines during my days at a Consol surface coal mine in the eighties. The track controls were unlike anything I have seen since. They were good and reliable machines when worked in their intended envelopes. Ours were used to load shot coal and were simply beaten to death. Also they were very difficult for a repairman, it was almost like Cat engineers hated mechanics!

Worked under one of those for quite a long time. Thanks for the memories :)

Grew up around Drott 34, 40, 50's. Then one day this company brings a 235 cat to our hometown to tear up a street and I was in shock-and-awe. Somewhere in late 80's the pipeline coming through had almost all 245's and again shock-and-awe. Id sit on my atv and watch them for a few hours bailing mud. Still impressive today.

Sorry but PA Mining had the first 245 video. I ran them for several years in Edmonton a very tough unbeatable machine.

+skadill Gopherit! Never get too many. I ran one of these with a hammer on it quite a lot. They ran ISO-68 oil in the hydraulics and it took a LONG time to limber them up in cold weather. One guy got on it and hammered it and stripped the pump drive right out. He ended up in a stockpile truck.
