Our grey market 14 had those controls, they were so awkward that we cut them short and moved the pilot valves up and back toward the operator. It was somewhat better but for that generation I really preferred the rod controls in our JD 792, they were way better for comfort and fine grading.

I like the old UH models, they were really built well. I love 80"s excavators. I have a nice 85 Kobelco K907C in really nice shape, wouldn't trade it for anything.

Al Blythe had an 07. He was Art Macay's excavator operator( jd690) for a few years. Art was Terry McGillivray's crawler loader operator for years prior. These are White Rock/South Surrey folks from the Wayback machine.
I heard that Al was an incredible machine operator.
In the early 80s, he had purchased a near new O7 and we hired him to excavate for a custom house we were doing in White Rock.
This house was hanging on the bluff, the excavation was crazy steep. We had to cut 30 steps into the bank afterward just to get down there to work.
I recall that two other professional excavator operators came by just to watch Allan work. He is a native from Terrace and completely unafraid of heights. We started with two trucks hauling and quickly added two more.
I've watched a lot of very good machine operators , several in my own family, but had never seen anything like the Al show.
As one excavator operator said " He knows exactly where that counterweight is and just what it will hold"

A friend want it fix up an old Hitachi EX120??, the machine was almost junk. He took a look at U.S. replacement part to replace the undercarriage, it was really expensive, On Alibaba and MadeinChina I found you can buy most everything for an old Hitachi *really cheap* Even complete new engines - You'll have to wait for silly shipping times from China, but there are many makers and sellers of most everything for a Hitachi. Shipping costs from China to New Jersey were around US$1,200 for a 40 foot sea container ... you can fit an awful lot of stuff in a container.

      I agree. That is a UH07-5 . It’s not a UH07-3. This model shown is a 1979-83 model I believe.

Ya it’s a old west coast machine with the under carriage modifications, cat walks, cab guard. Not something you really see outside of BC. Can’t imagine sitting in that coffin cab getting an arm workout yanking on those leavers. Surprised it didn’t have an old mechanical thumb.

You’d think it should be older than early 80’s? The EX120-1 launched in 1987 I think and UHO63 that came before it had the joysticks at the sides of the seat. This UH07 has the joysticks in front of you, so it’s presumably 2 generations behind the EX.
