10:50 Every motor should be honed with a torque plate. When i hone 5.9L cummins blocks (cast iron block) i get as much as .0015 warp when i remeasure without the torque plate.

a shop didn't hone my ej25 with a torque plate. needless to say, it should have been. it didn't last. i will not be going back to that shop ever.
@@allkindofstupidstuff when you torque the cylinder head on the block, the bolts distort the cylinder. So badically you want to hone the block with a torque plate so the cylinder is straight when the head is bolted on. If you hone it without a torque plate the cylinder will be out-of-round when you bolt the head on... leading to rings that dont seal, low compression, blowby, oil burning, etc..

Mateusz B It will also make a differance when the two halves of the block are bolted together. Problem you then have is hight. Not able to get it on the beam stroker. Or the jig borer for that matter

It's always a pleasure to see how you do things the correct way. I learn so much from watching you work your magic. My older boxer engines always had knock and it annoyed me. One mechanic I know said that's the way they all sound. It turned me off of Subaru. Now it appears that noise was engineered out of the modern engines. Is my observation correct?

Just found this channel. It's pretty impressive. Just for my education, the purpose of the honing process is to get piston matched to the respective cylinder? Basically, he is setting appropriate clearance? Did I get it right?
Honing is the process used to achieve the final desired bore diameter, ensure proper bore geometry, and create the proper surface finish in the bores. If it's too smooth, oil can't cling to the walls. If it's too rough, the piston rings can be damaged, and you will burn oil. There's a lot that goes into something which seems pretty simple.

im curious, you torque down all bolts the same, but doesnt subaru torque down 1 and 2 to 25ft/lb , 3to6 11ft/lb then tighten all bolts 90 degrees twice.... wouldnt that throw your measurements off a bit?........ or do you torque down the heads with different specs that recommended by subaru?..... can i torque down all bolts the same on my stock engine?

So pretty much when reading the dial indicator as he's checking the bore, if the needle does not go past the "0" point where he set it while needle is going clockwise, then its all good correct?

Frage... Passte der Motor in nen Brz, will nen 330 PS Sauger aufbauen und dachte an so nen ej25. Bekommt man den auf so eine Leistung. Und was sind den des für kolben die der Schrickoberth in seinem vln fährt?

er, I’m assuming you are talking about the two vertical lines going up the cylinder wall, they are superficial marks made by the bore measuring tool, they are completely harmless.

Can you tell me the proper clearance from piston to cylinder?
4 hundredths of a millimeter is not to be concerned about. All Subaru engines that are made in the factory do not bother with this procedure. Specifications for the piston to wall clearance is now different by how much?The rings will seat in a round bore. That is a more critical measurement.Forged pistons need more clearance for expansion anyhow.

Measuring the hone with a 1/100 clock. When you are honeing you are aiming for smaller tolerances than 1/100 thats why yo need a 1/1000 clock on the measuring tool.The funny thing is that the idiots here "thinks" he är a pro loooool
