    Your workmanship and skill is simply top notch! The video on crankshaft balancing on the Sunnen machine is tops! Wish your shop was somewhere closer here up north to the border - Best Regards. Daryl

    Brings back memories, at my old job when they were implementing "one piece flow".they actually had me running 5 machines simotantiosly. 2 SV10,1 od grinder,1 id grinder and a manual lathe......the sv10 is way more precise than the sv3

    Greetings from Canada! This is very good information and your shop is equipped with top notch machinery. The key to an excellent job is operator knowledge as well. Thank you for taking the time and posting these videos.

      Yes, it senses the tight areas and dwells there if you are in auto dwell mode. You can also choose to dwell manually but for most blocks I just hit auto and let it go. I believe in this video it dwelled a few times on it's own. It's so simple a caveman/automotive machinist can run it!

      Thank you Sir. I will try and call you tomorrow. Have some questions..is it the same number as on your Web site?

      Have you bored+honed two stroke cylinders? Do you use a separate mandrel specific for 2 stroke cylinders?

      The SV10 does not go smaller than 2.750" with the diamond tooling. Of course you can adapt any mandrel to the spindle but I normally use a PL mandrel in the horizontal hone for bike cylinders, done thousands of them this way. 2 stroke outboards I hone in the SV, it does an awesome job even though there is very little overstroke on most of them.

      Yes, # is good but I don't answer the phone due to all the b.s. calls businesses get. Leave a message and I will return the call.

    Does the Sunnen SV10 have the auto-dwell feature, which finds high spots in the cylinder and will cause the honing head to "dwell" in that area, which helps maintain cylindricity? Thanks - Daryl

    I have the same machine and I’m currently doing a cylinder 15,6 height and 5in inner diameter to be honed
    Is for a piston
    I’m having this issue when the machine stars it ends to quickly, I’m looking at yours go and the dial won’t even move much but in my machine I’ll try to finish .005 thousands in 2 minutes

    very interesting, i work as a honer, curious how it is measuring the bore? is it based on torque? We could use a machine like that , we have horizontal Sunnens.

      It senses load in the tight sections and dwells there. It doesn't actually measure the bore diameter, the operator determines the zero set on the crown wheel after honing the first cylinder to the desired size. From there, it will hone the rest to the same and shut off when reaching the zero set.

    Could this be used on alusuil, just to get it to the oversized piston spec., before using the felt pads and paste

    How important is the deck plate in this operation? Is there any risk in honing without plate?

    • @motion24527
      @motion24527  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a stock build it's not critical, the factory does not use deck plates when new. Rings can conform to some minimal out of roundness of the bores. But if ARP head studs are used with a higher torque value, there is more bore distortion. When doing a performance build, high boost, more cylinder pressure, etc, it's best to get the bores as round as possible to prevent any combustion loss past the rings and maintain accurate piston skirt clearance.

      @@motion24527 I put arp studs on my 2.0 tdi engine, using 2.8-2.9 bar boost. I have some blow by gas..so i will hone with plate at this point for a new rebuilt.
