    So ok im not an expert but.
    I totally agree that landvalue is a problem in CS2 but.....
    The land value (in real life) has nothing to do with house sizes. Im hearing this all over and also with other content creators. "Why is the land value so high ? im only building small houses?"
    The land value, and therefore the prizing at houses is a mix of the placement, accessability and city size. So if you own a house a house in a big city with lots of shopping possibilities, access to public transport and a view to the sea, you will have a very high land value. Thats just the way it is.
    I have to admit that i dont have the right solution, but i think the game essential is doing the right thing. Mabe they just have to turn down the prizing so it does not get out of control.
    Great channel Biffa. Love your enthusiam and your possitive attitude.

      Correct, but you are miss the other factor in livingcost, how much of said land is occupied.
      And that gets less with the livingspace and therefore house(ignoring multi apartment houses) getting smaller, so smaller houses should be cheaper to live in.

    • @Kram1032
      @Kram1032 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      if anything, larger houses (per person) are gonna happen in lower land value regions as a high land value means lots of individual living space is night unaffordable

      @jamiec8096 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes. Years ago my monthly mortgage for a small 2 bedroom, 2 car garage house cost less than my current one bedroom apartment. There is no longer an option where I live to find lower rent in a smaller town nearby.

    • @butterypopcorrn
      @butterypopcorrn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      "I think the game essential is doing the right thing" I disagree with that. If land is valued high, it's because people can afford to live there. Having large swathes of a city being unaffordable due to the value of the property being too high, indicates that property is over-valued. Just as it is being in the game.
      Really this fake "land value" assignment is an issue simply by its existance, each plot of land should be marketed in the game just as it is in real life, and agents buy them, then set the rents from there.

    • @sacb0y
      @sacb0y 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I agree, the system is working the problem is solutions for what to do about it. It might be feasible to fix but the solution definitely isn't obvious. Especially since the issue can extend to even to high density residential.

  • @CompletelyCr
    @CompletelyCr 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +108

    Yes, there is a problem, but also, these people were living in a bungalow right next to the centre of your city - of course the rent (essentially land value tax/council tax) was going to be astronomical

      @@theproceedings4050My experience seconds this. My current city is more like two cities: one large, high density city, and one smaller, medium density town. I haven't had an issue with high rent in a very long time. I suspect it's because there are options across the board: expensive, high wealth apartment buildings, nice but affordable medium apartments, cheaper apartments, row housing and suburban and rural housing give options to all classes. Land value overlay confirms this, as downtown is very expensive, sattelite town is middling and all the rural space is quite cheap and affordable.
      Not to say there isn't an issue, there's definitely a lot of jank to the simulation, but it is possible to avoid the high rent thing just by employing a variety of densities and classes over a larger space.

    I had a dream I was trying to fix my hometown's influx of citizens, after becoming a celebrity and mayor of the town, and I was trying to renovate the town but I was struggling to make the traffic flow well. I was trying to accommodate train routes though the town, as well as managing car traffic flow, but the plans I made didn't work well. My first thought was to ask Biffa to help me fix the traffic flow, as well as citizen complaints, and with the help of roundabouts and lane mathematics, it helped fix my town of issues.

    Biff! Paths are SO good for controlling zoning grids. That point where the zoning snapped to the wrong street and wouldn't grow where you wanted could have been fixed by placing a path a few tiles back from the road, then the zoning tiles would appear on the road where you wanted them. I've started placing foot paths before doing any zoning to make my suburbs feel distinct to each other through lot size.

    I'm so glad for the land value overhaul mod. In my city, literally one road over, you quickly start going from high density everything to single homes. Yes, prices are astronomical, but people still buy because it's highly attractive. As opposed to CS2 where they're not allowed to be built and no-one wants it...

    • @RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356
      @RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup! Land being priced out of being constructed on is such an utterly absurd concept. Land is expensive because people *want* to build/live there. It will never price above that demand in perpetuity like it does here. Maybe briefly, but after a few months the price will go down until somebody wants it again.

    To tackle the land value issue they should have separate land values for each of the zoning types. So instead of the land value increasing for everyone regardless of the building put down or what has spawned in, it affects each differently. For example a school increases residential but doesn't effect industrial, but put a coal power plant down and it increases industrial but plummets residential land values. Would add an extra layer of balancing required in gameplay too.

    You showcased well why I stopped playing City Skylines 2, also your other video addressed it quite well. I have no confidence in the underlying simulation at all at this moment. My first city right after the start of the game went through every single bug and its just not fun. Initially the balance for education was off, then the garbadge piled up followed by the mail service not functioning, import/export of goods failed and then the landvalue issue and/or the imbalance for resident density. Of course my 100k city got completely destroyed over all of this and I'm sick and tired of trying to restore it after after the next simulation module decides to break. I won't touch it for probably another 3-6 months unless there are major updates.

    • @sacb0y
      @sacb0y 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While there's definitely balance issues, so far what people called bugs was frequently not understanding mechanics like how high rent issues mechanically make sense if you look at the data but the circumstances happen too frequently. The problem is much of these issues are a snowball, even if you address the problem sometimes its legit too fargone even with all their failsafes. Like by the time mail is a problem, even if you address it you probably can't fix it. It's not broken, it works, but it doesn't work fast enough.

    • @Zorndar83
      @Zorndar83 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah thats not at all what I encountered, I dont make accussations lightly and if I say bugs I mean it. Lets start with the garbadge disposal first. I had over double the processing power of what was required, what happened though was that the trucks just filled my processing facility everytime I built a new one but they never actually prcoessed it. The trick was then to built more facilities and then delete them, but surely that can't be the intended way? The other option was that they collected ONLY outside the city, but ignored destinations within 100m begging to be picked up. Quite literally around the next corner and even with truck capacity not completely utilised they just didnt colelct anything. Similar behaviour with the mail service, the sorting facilities simply didn't sort anything, just collected until everything was full. The issue of course being if nothing ever is sorted nothing is send out either, hence people complain about mail not being picked up and so on. The import/export bug was a bit different. There are patchnotes describing every single one of these bugs I encounterd but sure, keep telling yourself they are just "not working fast enough".
      A few of the patch notes in question 1.0.13f1 hotfix, 1.0.15f1 hotfix. I could go on, as this game went on for a while until it was actually "fixed".

    • @sacb0y
      @sacb0y 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my case garbage stopped being a problem when i restricted them by districts. Even the patch notes mentioned they favored outside sources too much. There's no chain for garbage so this can largely fix itself once corrected. It's a balance problem but it's not broken.
      Mail works, provably, but it's a chain, and it can be a slow chain (post office > sorting facility > back to post office > repeat). And as such it's a snowball. Once it's bad, there's nothing you can really do. Especially if you have traffic issues... @r83

    I would move the elementary school. Now it's right next to a highway, just a few meters away. Even a highway bridge, throwing the noise right in to the school. Move it to the space next to the river, in front of the newly established row houses instead. Now kids can WALK from their homes to the school, and not cross the main road either.
    In genreral, CS-gamers way too often place schools in the most horrible places. Schools should be placed
    1. so kids can walk or bicycle from their homes - without getting killed by cars
    2. quiet places, close to nature

    I love seeing how Kettlebridge grows and im very impressed with all the modders and their work! A couple of small things: firstly, please change some of the internal alley roads between the shops at 17:33 to pedestrian paths or a line of trees - I feel like having them all as roads is a bit unrealistic, gives drivers too many options, and creates too many junctions on the 'main' road 😅 It also stressed me out at 23:40 when you put that junction so close to the roundabout - I feel like that's just asking for traffic trouble and I'm sure you could move the road further down (towards the forestry building & away from the roundabout) to connect into the area with the school and football field 👍 are you also going to connect the neighbourhood with public transport? Looking forward to the next episode, as always! 😁

    Trying to get my head around this land value issue... if you make the taxes zero and free everything, won't that make the areas more desireable, and therefore increase the land value? Small desirable residences will also increase the perception of a more desireable area, so land value will increase? I have spread things out and mixed it up, and at 100k I've not hit this problem except where it would be likely IRL.
    Love ya Biffa... if the mod makes it easier then great... but I don't really know if it's an error with the simulation or just our desire to be able to build everywhere freely. Keep going with CS2 - I now have almost as much time in it as CS1 !!! Loving it despite the issues. Mods and assets are going to make this awesome in the next year or so.
    Edited to add.... so this mod has upgraded your small residential to level 5.... but in real life this would incrase the land value even more? I'm confused!

      The big reason people feel it is a bug is that empty lots will become so expensive that no one can afford to build there. And that’s just not how supply and demand works. Even if an over zealous land owner tried to charge way more than the land was actually worth, eventually they will accept a lower offer if only to not pay taxes on it anymore. The fact that empty lots will become unaffordable for *any* developer in perpetuity is insane.

    I had this too. The mod works perfectly.
    But i also had a mass transit bug. The whole simulation went in slow motion, people walking, cars driving, smoke from pipes, water waves. I checked mu cpu was only 30 percent, but gpu was max. With new gear, AMD 9, 32 ram, it's obvious not a computer problem. When i deleted all my super good functioning Bus lines, the game was good again.
    What also was strange, i had less traffic (problems) after Deleting the bus lines.
    Its a pity, i think game has a great potential, but there are too many issues right now.

    Full size (American) football stadiums next to elementary schools is not really a thing here in the states. Middle and High schools often have them though. Most city elementary schools are within a residential neighborhood away from main arterials. Most are sort of hidden and you wouldn't know they were there unless you lived in the neighborhood.

    ive had some proper bugs with the land value stuff, in my city all of the commercial, office, and industry buildings had high rent, no matter what. the land value wasn't even high it was like the lowest possible value but literally every single one of them had the same problem. tried taxes, nothing, changed density, nothing, rezoned them further away from amenities, nope. not a single residential lot had the problem, even in the high land value areas that had some poorer residents.

      @RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Problem is that the land in these cases will turn into empty lots in game where only high density can build, and that really doesn’t make much sense. Even if developers would prefer to build multiunit residences in that location, if the land was really so valuable, somebody rich enough would probably build their own mini mansion there eventually, and they would own it and not be suffering from rent issues. It’s like if Beverly Hills suddenly became abandoned cause the houses were too expensive. It doesn’t make any sense. Not to mention that the game often shoves underaged orphans in their own freaking multi-bedroom houses, which is actually ridiculous.

    @V8HiluxZX6R 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    1:39... I mean you just explained the mechanics of it... is there anything that needs fixing.
    Surely being a fellow UK resident you know that most housing around highstreets/City centre commercial hubs is expensive to buy and/or rent. If business is booming prices go up. Places with dead/run down highstreets are often reflected in the surrounding housing.
    Don't put budget housing around mass commercial roads. The burbs tend to have small local retail/corner shops etc then various sized retail parks dotted about the place.
    This is kinda what i was talking about in previous comments about people wanting to jump on mods when they don't understand or even appreciate the games base mechanics. I don't beleive this particular aspect needs changing tbh... maybe a little tweak/bit of finessing but it seems like one of the few things in the game is massively broken.

    It's just so annoying that we have to rely on modders not for fun additions to the game, but basic fixes for things that should have been working correctly in the first place. Not to mention we shouldn't have to go to some third party site to download them. There should be a workshop option, or their own mod-hub thing should have been up and functioning at release. I would have been happier about paying EIGHTY BUCKS for the game, but have it released even later so that they could have finished it and ironed out the game-breaking bugs. I no longer trust Paradox/Colossal Order, and will likely never buy a game from them again, including the new Prison Architect II that's due to release soon.
