    The only change I would make (I'm just at the test world point of vid) is that when we use these lanes here in Michigan, the U-Turn aspect does not have its own dedicated lane after the turn itself. You're just turning into either of the two lanes available. Typically these are found in conjunction with a dedicated right turn lane at the intersection with two forward moving lanes.

    In most places Michigan lefts are implemented they're on both of the roads creating the intersection, so theres 4 total spots for a u-turn. This actually creates 2 ways to go left; you can go straight, u-turn and turn right. Or turn right, u-turn and go straight. For british version its all just reversed. And honestly the u-turn points are little bit closer to the intersection than you have here in game.

  • @TypicxlSortOfOdd
    @TypicxlSortOfOdd 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Biffa, you can double left click to create a new node occasionally!! No need to use roads. Also, you can just move the paths until the traffic light and crossing just disappears with no snapping on, just adjust it. Also, people can't go all the way around to do a U-Turn on a roundabout, it's very non-flexible at the moment. You should have downgraded the road after the roundabout to a 4l2w (2 on each side) to make space for the Kettlebridge right.
    I still love your content though!!

    Seems like they still have not fixed traffic lights. American lights have left turns going only, then straight on. They have left turns going at the same time as straight on traffic, which creates stoppages in the intersection, which inturn holds up traffic from flowing.

    Hello! Local Michigan resident chiming in here!
    First off, love that you did this.
    Second off, many of our Michigan lefts have TWO left turn lanes designated. This drastically helps with throughput, and the outside of those lanes are primarily used for the cars that need to make an immediate right afterwards. This helps reduce additional lane merges right afterwards.
    Cheers mate! Enjoy those Kettlebridge rights!

    One feature of successful Michigan lefts is that they tend to add the u-turn lane for just just a short leadup, like a highway off-ramp, so the turners don't block the main thruway.
    Additionally, the u-turn can get a synchronized traffic signal with the main signal to allow the main intersection to clear and the turners to make their action before the whole major road is full-green.

    We need a traffic manager.
    I get constant U-turns in the middle of an avenue and when there is rush hour, ,just ONE damn car wanting to make a U-turn grinds that whole area of the city to a halt.
    I understand that they want some drivers to break rules but I have a whole city of drivers that will make left turns at intersections even when they are turned off..
    The person who wrote the code for lane changing was the same person who drives 70mph in the far left lane and then cuts over four lanes of traffic to make their exit in ten feet..

    I think the reason you still occasionally get people going right when they shouldn't is because some sim's will break the law and ignore traffic rules (kind of like real life). Unfortunately theres no option to install camera's at a junction and institute fines for not following the traffic rules, as this is usually effective and making people follow them.

    The P turn/michigan left helps because it allows for more than a single dedicated straight lane through the intersection. You could have achieved similar results by using a typical Intersection design, Dedicated cross intersection turning lane, middle lanes are dedicated straights, outboard lanes are combination turning/straight.

    Another similar version of this idea is the Jersey Jug handle. Jug handles are used to handle turning traffic in a T intersection. Instead of having a left/u turn lane at the intersection, you disable turns and prior to the intersection have all traffic intending to turn make a right turn along a jug handle which will reconnect the intersection facing towards where the left turn would have taken them. Now they can simply drive straight when the light changes and not have impeded the straight on traffic when red. Basically, you have drivers take a right to turn left.

    In Argentina most cities and towns have their local roads as one ways and collectors are the only two way roads. Left turns are banned on any major road. The correct maneuver is, if you have to turn left at 3rd st you make a right in 2nd, then a left in the next road, then a left onto 3rd, and then, on 3rd st, you cross over the avenue. I have tried this system in cs1 and it works really fine. The drawback is that it kind of forces you to use grids

    • @Verbose_Verbatim
      @Verbose_Verbatim 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's generally fine, though, for a few reasons: since cars slow & stop for the intersection (doesn't make sense to blow through at high speed!), and since the stoplights encourage "packets" of traffic to queue up and pass through all at once-leaving behind a vacuum of free space after for the U-turn cars to make their move with little conflict.
      In real life, some of these U-turns are even signalized (timed to the central intersection) to protect the turn for cars to U-turn into any receiving lane (useful especially for cars with poor turn radius).

If you are coming from the side roads, you have to turn right through the main road, merge into the inner lane, take the u-turn slot, merge again into the outer lane, turning right back to the side road. Making the intersection a small "oblong-a-bout"...

    Check out northern Telegraph Road (12 Mile and north) in Southfield, MI. It is a "couplet" that uses exclusively Michigan (BTW: "MISH-a-gan"), Lefts. I drive this stretch of Telegraph every day. You will also see at most crossovers (aka U-Turns), it has signals that are timed/phased with the main intersection, as well. Thus, traffic making the U-Turn is protected, allowing for a bit more controlled flow.
    In my current CS2 city, I utilized Michigan Lefts on a couplet, including an intersection of two couplets. Vanilla has a few issues with lane management, and until we get the ability to link traffic light nodes with each other, it is a bit clunky.
    Thanks for the great video.

    I feel like the ‘Michigan left’ principle is used in England all over the place, but not strictly. As we love roundabouts, there are intersections with roundabouts instead of the U-turn sections featured here. However this isn’t strictly policed with a no left turn, but is used by commuters when traffic in the left turn lane builds up.

    This is an example of a Michigan left, however in most cases, the medians are quite a bit wider so the traffic can move more quickly, and often there is a light at the turnaround so that U turn traffic can safely cross the several lanes to complete their "left". The lights are usually timed such that the traffic on the boulevard will not get caught at lights so long as it maintains speed at near the speed limit. This 3 light intersection can be very efficient this way, allowing tremendous traffic flow on the divided highway, with only the intersecting roads and turning traffic being significantly slowed by lights. The best part about it, is all turning traffic can turn on red because no turns cross traffic, which also makes these very fast intersections when traffic is light and you could otherwise be sitting waiting minutes for a turn signal for no reason.

Further down the road, will have a similar U-turn setup. For traffics that do want to go straight on the main road, will have a flyover bypass. So, 0 conflicts for turning right or going straight on. Biffa why don’t you forbid left turns at all?? Drivers find their way by going around the blocks! It may increase the traffic on local roads but just make then one way and turn then into viaducts when crossing main avenues. Here in Brazil most of our avenues forbid left turns. And when there’s not enough space for a roundabout or for a separated left turn lanes, we just simply drive around blocks!! It works when I play cities skylines too.

      I had done some Infraspace maps similar to this, All 1 way roads except the equivalent of rural/mining roads. it does fairly well as long as the pathfinding for the traffic doesn't decide to send everyone down the same road / what becomes a rectangle-a-bout causing gridlock.

    • @luisfelipebdesouza
      @luisfelipebdesouza 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@marxmaiale9981 I usually build larger blocks to avoid gridlocks. Also, too many xings on main avenues also tend to lock drivers. That’s why I build one way viaducts when necessary so as to reduce traffic lights and intersections.

    there are some major cities in Canada that alternate traffic. so there at a four way light intersection 3 of the lights are red and one is green, then it alternates so there is only one side going at a time, but you can still make right hand turns at the reds, as long as you stop first and is safe to do so
