2021 playoffs was the last hurrah of the old QB generation. Tom Brady getting his final playoff win, Big Ben going out on a whimper vs the Chiefs, and Aaron Rodgers suiting up for a playoff game in a Packers uniform one last time. The youth movement is starting to go into full force only 3 years in.
Facts man. Its still weird asf watching my Falcons without Matt Ryan, doesn’t even feel like the Falcons. I’m 21, Matt was our QB as long as I could remember.

That Goff-Stafford trade is one of the best in NFL history for their respective teams. As mad as I am we lost the last two seasons to em, seeing Goff and the lions succeed is awesome

Dan Campbell hasn't set the tone for the "Revival" of Lions football, because there was simply nothing to revive. We had been a punching bag for 60 years and our only claim to fame was wasting the careers of two of the GOATs. MCDC, Brad Holmes and their core group of players have completely changed the culture of the entire franchise.
It's funny because as much as the national media was mocking Campbell for the kneecap comments, Lions fans were already embracing him. He was such a shift from that pencil-wearing tub of lard we were stuck with before. I still can't believe how much things have changed in just a few years.
The kneecaps quote was so emblematic of what he wanted out of the team. They go out there to play and he goes out there to coach so overaggressively it makes me think he's just running on poppers and amphetamine on the sidelines at these games. You gotta love him.

I'm sorry, but Geno Smith at his best was never as good Russell Wilson. Even tho he had a good year. People just decided at some point he was Charles Manson or Hannibal Lecter and now everybody "hates" him because he is "corny" and "fake" so like that old Freeway song "everything he do is wrong" even when he is not playing bad.

Watching the week 1 game for the panthers yesterday just reminded me how talented this team could be if they didn’t trade their players 🤦🏻♂️ CMC, DJ Moore, Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn but never a QB

As a Rams fan, I hated Goff when he was here. In the biggest moments, he always came up short or even straight up disappeared (SB vs Patriots). Despite this, I can't help but feel so happy for him. Kind of sucks for us though that MCDC has his team playing so rough that now the Rams are 1 game into the season and already hella injured. That's a damn good team they built up there.

@@thepicgesterSame here! Honestly for Goff, I feel like he needed to have that happen to get where he is now. Stafford had that fire in him to prove he could win it all with the right shot and I’m happy to have him as a QB.
@@sterlingmarshel6299Goff would have never been able to make that game winning drive against Tampa in the divisional round or make the no-look passes to Kupp needed to win the Superbowl that season. Now he might be able to with his newfound confidence and stacked roster, but not in 2021-2022.

Noteworthy detail that was left out: Geno Smith and Russell Wilson's quarterback coach in Seattle, Dave Canales, went on to become Tampa's offensive coordinator in 2023.

I still don't totally understand what the Browns were thinking replacing Mayfield with Watson. Not that Mayfield is a world beater, but betting it all on Watson at the time was... optimistic. Baker was never the issue, it was and is Cleveland's moronic leadership/ownership.

I believe Baker is a good QB and the Browns lost all of my good will when they traded him off for Watson

Speaking of Coaches in 2021 going back to the college ranks, Jim Harbaugh was actually on the hot seat. He led Michigan to a 2-4 record in Covid shortened 2020 and had yet to beat Ohio State. Over the next 3 years, Michigan not only won the Big 10 three times, not only did it beat Ohio St. 3 times, but it won the 2024 CFC game and finished #1 for the first time in almost 30 .
Then like his good friend, Pete Carroll, he fled back to the NFL to avoid NCAA Sanctions

Seeing Goff be accepted and believed in by Detroit and that the team rallied behind him even when they were 3-11 is absolutely beautiful.
I ain’t even a lions fan but it fr brings a tear to my eye, it’s so sick to watch him go from an insanely good young qb, get kicked to the curb, but then brought back up again by people who know how good he truly is.
After that chiefs V rams game I think in 2017? The high scoring shoot out solidified to me that Goff is truly a great player.
As a hawks fan it also helps that it’s the rams that did him dirty so I can root for him even more lol

I don't remember Baker insisting he should keep playing injured...I remember the coach saying that he should.
The way they used him up and spat him out for the sex pest made the subsequent karma inevitable.
If they would have pulled Baker after his injury. Let him heal up and signed a modest but fair contract with him..they might be coming up on a possible SB this year.

as a lifelong lions fan, i've never been happier. Watching my favorite player of all time produce highlight after highlight just for us as a franchise to make the playoffs once broke my heart. but now our team is young, promising, and the sky is the limit for us. just goes to show how effort put into the team can pay off, and I cannot say more about dan campbell. no coach we've ever had had anything close to that level of promise and confidence in our team
I never heard that press conference before, but to me it is no surprise as to why the players want to play for him. Mad respect, especially when you compare Campbell to someone like Mike Zimmer, treating his players like shit and talked only about mistakes his team made after they won a playoff game.

You forgot to mention that out of all QBs drafted in 2021, only two have signed extensions with their original team. Besides Trevor Lawrence, the other one is Davis Mills, third rounder, who signed last week a 1 year, $5M extension with the Texans to backup CJ Stroud.
This really could change how quarterbacks are perceived. We need to go back to the 2000s when IF you played as a rookie you were actually ready.

Im a Seahawks fans but moved to South Korea in 2022 and I couldn’t watch any NFL or keep up with the sport so seeing how much has changed is crazy. Seeing the generation I loved to watch change completely and the team I followed have a whole new set of players I don’t know is so weird but that’s football I guess

Seahawks fan here. Russell Wilson was successful in a Pete Carroll system and an incredible defense. Full Stop. Wilson's head got big and he thought he was the reason for Hawks's success. The other players felt disrespected and hated Wilson. His decision in the SB was the start of the decline. The trade (the best in history for the Seahawks) was celebrated in Seattle. We laughed when Denver thought they could even make the playoffs. After the Hawks beat them at home they finished dead last in their division; We knew Denver had a lemon and it proved right. If he had any humility he would have structured his contract (like Brady did) and the Hawks would have had more success. But he chose fame and a pile of money over success. He is washed now and Seattle celebrates every loss he takes.

Just so you know, as a Seahawks fan the product has slowed WAY down. There was a vocal part of the fanbase that wanted to move on after the 2017 Season. Pete and Russ leaving was LONG overdue.
Obviously this was made before the season but Fields has been the starter in Pittsburg and has looked pretty solid tbf

This new era of the NFL feels so foreign to me. The 2010s were defined by legendary quarterbacks who were synonymous with their team’s identity. And when they moved teams they took success with them and left impossibly large shoes to fill.
But now in the 2020s it almost feels like QBs are easily replaced. QBs don’t single-handedly carry a team or sink them. The offenses often seem to be only as good or bad as the receivers and coaches that surround the QB.
It feels like there’s been a paradigm shift.

I'll admit, I didn't like the Lions hiring Dan Campbell at first. I heard his kneecap comment and thought, "Good lord, who tf is this clown?" Still wasn't high on him after his first season. But the turnaround we've seen from Detroit since the 2nd half of 2022 has been amazing to see!

When the Rams traded Goff I was in shock. I loved Goff and the rams so I was torn. Don’t get me wrong stafford is awesome and I appreciate the Super Bowl but he was on his way out. Goff was still learning, albeit he’s not a superstar but he can win. Either way, love to see either of them win. Even when it’s against each other. lol
