I don't think he chooses to do a bad job, but he definitely cracks under pressure, and seeing as Spongebob is a Krabby Patty savant, I'd guess he often ends up getting the yips when he's trying to fill in for him, inevitably leading to burnt patties and the like. Spongebob set's quite a high standard for any fry cook, and when you're not only filling in for him, but also working the register, there's a lot weighing down on poor Squid.

Cooking is more art than science ("THAT'S BAKING!") and Squidward is absolutely incredible at the fundamentals and the science of his art, it just so happens that his pieces fall apart whenever he adds a part of himself to his work. It'd make sense that he'd see the artistic integrity and take pride in his cooking, even if he didn't know how to at first. It's more endearing to think after the episode he burnt every item on the menu he went home angry and embarrassed to the tune of "They wouldn't know a good Krabby Patty if it hit them in the face!" eventually learning that he actually likes cooking.
I'm literally in a similar situation where I work at a (not too high-end) restaurant, where I cook and bake everything as decent as the standards of the restaurant demands - I may not put my whole heart into it, as long as I get food out, i'm good. My main goal is to survive the rushes after all. But at home I absolutely love the art of cooking, and I will take hours to perfect a dish without the pressures of customers, and I find the most joy in that - as i'm sure Squidward does too with his many homemade souffles he makes in episodes.
I always imagined the Krusty Krab schedule looked like this. Sunday: Krusty Krab Closed Monday: 10am to 6pm, Krabs and Squidward. Tuesday - Friday: 10am to 6pm, All 3. Saturday: 10am to 6pm: Krabs and SpongeBob. That would mean Bubble Buddy took place on a Monday, while The Nasty Patty took place on a Saturday.
I remember in one of the OLD episodes, the one where Spongebob got the squeaky boots and Mr. Krabs went crazy over them, a customer walked up to Mr. Krabs and asked to order and Krabs pulled out a note book and pencil, ready to take the dude's order. It may be a small detail, but at least shows me that Mr. Krabs isn't above helping out on the floor when he's out there to help take orders or what not.
@bluehairedaigaming I am talking about the original night shift episode, where the "serial killer" is actually a fish that want to apply for the night shift, it is true that we don't see He talking to Krabs but with spongebob and squidward, but my point is that it isn't impossible that they have a night shift crew
@@RafaCB0987 I assume the night shift policy is just something that Krabs might change every now and then. I’m pretty sure there’s at least a couple episodes where not only does SB and SW’s shifts end, but Krabs himself closes the Krusty Krab, locking the door, leaving the lights off, and with no visible customers in sight.
I always assumed it was Krabs who worked those early shifts before Bob gets there. And my head canon for Squidward is that he just got better at it with time after being forced to replace Bob so many times. But yeah, I wouldn't put it past him either to just reheat old krabby patties and serve them on the weekends 😂 so all three could be true at once
That would be my guess too, only Mr. Krabs has also been shown in many episodes, such as "Squilliam Returns", to be a terrible cook. However, he actually does a good job cooking Krabby Patties in many episodes, too. I'm guessing maybe Krabby Patties are the only thing Krabs knows how to cook? 🤷 On a side note, there was a scene in "Nature Pants" where SpongeBob forlornly stares at a table full of Krabby Patties through the Krusty Krab window. Maybe those are from the vault?
I mean, it was a one of joke but if we include all the lore, but there's the Krabby Patty vault that's filled with them and they seem to be edible straight out of the vault (or atleast tasty enough that squidward goes wild on them). So I guess Krabs has Spongebob prepping additional ones for the vault durrig the week and just reheats them on their off days. The only not in character action there would be Krabs leaving the register unattened for a minute or so while he gets the patties..
I always believed that Squidward was actually a competent cook, it’s just that whenever he doesn’t want to do the work of SpongeBob he does an atrociously bad job as an act of rebellion.
Spongebob is shown to be able to reproduce by budding. By doing this, he can seemingly make an exact clone of himself. I propose that there are, at minimum, two Spongebobs. Each one covers the Krusty Krab while the other enjoys his day off getting into shenanigans around Bikini Bottom.
Imagine seasons 1-3 SpongeBob are stuck working and somewhere along the post movie seasons the flanderized modern SpongeBob is the “clone” running around that we follow. It would explain the character change lol
It’s funny how Alex Bale videos always say and act like SpongeBob has perfect continuity and all these secret things when Awe points out all the time that the writers have so little consistency they often can’t even be bothered to know what happened in older episodes so they just write something totally contradictory
Alex Bale is definitely not serious with his series and it's just having fun. He doesn't seem like he's trying to do a math hat and establish the continuity for all his viewers
Here is my theory: After Jim quit as the fry cook, Mr. Krabs and Squidward took shifts as the frycook for some time, but the busy hours and pressure were too overwhelming for both of them, resulting in the patties going bad, so Mr. Krabs put on the help wanted sign. Both of them still took SpongeBob's job as a replacement when he wasn't around, but it was still too much hard work. That's why Mr. Krab built the patty vault. After Squidward broke into it and caused it to explode, Mr. Krab never got a new one. Squidward still works as the frycook, sometimes alongside Spongebob to help him if there are too many customers for the day. After the first night shift episode happened, Mr. Krab got the idea for the night shift employees to fill in SpongeBob and Squidward's place. that's why spongebob's paycheck is too little because now he has more employees If both Squidward and SpongeBob got a day off, Mr. Krab does everything himself or sometimes calls Pearl for extra help.
All three, And Squidward just decides sometimes he doesn't want to make them so pretends not to know how, or makes them bad on purpose when he doesn't want to do it
I think a major issue with your process is recognizing the difference between 'making" and "cooking" the pattys. Only a very select few know how yo make the pattys and are entrysted with the sercret ingredients identity to do so. This includes Spong bob since he is entrusted to do so as a backup to Mr. k. They make them in mass prodiced batches and freeze them in the walk in cold storage. This minimuzes the amount of times they need to make them as well as the number of people who have to know the process. This is standard to most fast food places for economical reasons. Ingrefients can be bought in bulk for lower cost, produced in an offsite facility better suited for health and saftey standards of mass hadling with raw ingredients and allow better storage until needed. Krabs would love to adapt thsi for a few reaosns except the offsite related ones. We know Mr. k has the patties "made" on site since he orders the secret ingredient to be delivered at the resteraunt. We also know they have a massive (if not magically size shifting) frozen patty storage onsite. Fur to Plankton, its also pretty clear they font make the patties during regular buisness hours or even a consistant calander shedule. They bulk create at odd hours and random intervals to ensure they always have a good amount on hand wothout being watched. Once this is done the more routine duty of COOKING the patties is all that remains. It is clear Spongbob is a great frycook qnd ther is an art to that when it comes to quality. The knowlage or abilty to "make" the special patties however is not required for this. The reason the pattys are so good as a basebks their formula and creation with the finishing touch being SB's great stovework/assmebly with the condiments. The meat you get in that greasy, gross Burger King burger that looks slapped togther is IDENTICAL to the meat form the more upscale neighborhood BK burger that actually looks like the pic on the menu. Its the effort and skill in cooking/assembing that determes that difference. Mr. K and Squidward tend to do a terribel job due to more the cliches they represent. Squidward is lazy and incompetent in anything that doesnt pique his interest. He also tends to have wildly swinging levels of competancy in his artisitc skill with a lot fj his background art requiring some really hard earned skillsets but other times showing an inate level of automatic failure no matter how he tries. This is consistent for both at the job as in some cases he really is trying and still destorying the pattys whole others make it clear he doesnt like to do more than is required at work. He wlso feels the pattys are beneath him culinarily as cheap fast food so during those instances, its clear he just doesnt really care About the job hes doing. Mr. K is an oldschool male steriotype and a single parent one as well. Its sad to say but he represents the incompetant single male from the older generation who relied on women or paid food to feed them. Hes very much a businessman cliche. He also os a war vet who lived off of terible food, is a bit of a mommas boy even to this day and a mooch. Unfortunatly, the single father trope in media basically depicted a culinarily inept individual from the 1950s to even current. You can see it in characters like Peppermint Patty who has to pack her own lunch and figure out a lot of her own meals, Charles Finster, Scott Calvin and the other single father at Denny's in The Santa Clause among many others reinforce this pattern. Mr. K is in fact a singel father who depsite owning a fast food resteruant is pretty crap in the kitchen. They even made a Chekov's gun joke about this in the epsoode about Squidward's r steraunt where he claims he served in the gally of the SS Diarrhea and his "appetiser" goes on a rampage. He even tries to cook peas on the stove in the can, proving a general ignrance in food prep. Despite this, there are plenty of competant frycooks and cooks ib general shown in Bakini Botttom. While they may not supy the magical level of quality as Spongebob, just geting the work done is not that hard. Even plakton seems aware of how to prepare/cook food but is just shit at knowing what ongrediates to use ..since its always just chum. He proves a level of culinary ecpertise by the menas in whoch he tries to make it appetizing but its a lost cause from what he starts with. Getting back to the question, I think a revolving door of indovidials are used to "cook" the Pattys when Spongbob is not around. Even Patrick was hired once to replace SB for his mandatory day off. I feel it is very few who actually know how yo MAKE the patty though. Mr. k is a given. His mom knows since it is confirmed she is aware of the full Formula. I dont think squidward or the original frycook know hwoever. They only needed to cook the Patty's and both seem to intellegent/self serving (which is any amount at all) for Mr. k to trust them. I dont even feel Pearl knows yet as a minor (Jesus Christ...that IS the case and makes the prom episode woth SB all the more creepy while recognizing that.) it seems like a comming of qge thing int he Krabs family to pass that info down in prep for her to eventually take over the buisness. In her current, financially careless teen tropish personality, Eugene would NEVER entrust her with that info. SB is a loyal employee and patsy. He will never give the info up willingly but be onboard to spend unpaid overtime at bas hours making huge batches of pattys when Mr. k. Can't do it alone. As long as he has a backup, thats all that matter these days in his aging years. Before Spongebob, he would likley make the pattys and freeze them himself only to keep full control ver it. He would then have whatever frycooks he could get who would accept his low pay and poor treatment to cook them. A lot of the time this woudl likely be younger indiviausl with little workplace experience or older inviduals with little other options. We see both Squiddy and the OG cook followed this trend and WERE young when they started. squidward only saw it as a temp job before his Art Career took off and since that never happened, he is stuck there now. Even when he went on strike, he had aspirations of multiple other careers ..but wound up losing everything because he has no transferable workplace experience, education or discernable skills. The OG cook ultimatly grew out of the role and went into buisenss for hismelf ok in the same industry once he had what he needed to do so. Spongebob is also young and nieve when he starts but just never loses the later aspect of his personality. I even see Pearl doing tiis a lot more than we are shown. A good comparison is Bob's Burgers. Bob is the culinary genius but working the grill is not rocket science. Not only does Linda bakc him up if needed but TINA is his main asisstant/backup since Linda usually works register. Luise is even shwon hrlping. When supervised soley fue to her age and the same with Gene because of his attention issues. NONE accept linda and Bob are allowed to "make" the burger meat as it is more complex for a plethora of reaosns. They do in fact grind and season their own hamburger as seen in a few episodes, but the kids are not allwoed as part of that process. The health onspector would have a field day if buttscratching gene, prankster Louise or absent minded Tina had been the ones directly prepping the raw protien.
This is genuinely insightful and a quite interesting concept. Indeed, most people do not know the differences between merely cooking a dish, vs MAKING and perfecting it.

1:28 I think that it might actually be closed on Sundays. I don't know if you are old enough to remember but there was a time when people used to not have stores open on Sunday, except rarely. I suppose that this is part of the story but there is a contradiction (inconsistent story writing) because Mr. Krabs sometimes has the store open for days (fear of the krabby patty). Also, don't forget that sometimes Spongebob does not work for days in many of the episodes that take place over several days (Sandy's rocket, I was a teenage Gary, and many others). Also don't forget that spongebob had a day off in Bubble Buddy. Edit: In the "Greasy Spoon" song, Mr. Krabs is cooking. He definitely can and probably does cook.
@1stCallipostle But like I said, regularly Sponge Bob is not working for several consecutive days. For instance, in My life as a teenage Gary, both Sponge bob and squidward are not at work for 3 days over the weekend. I think that the KK is just not open on weekend canonically.
I think a combination of all three explanations work. The patty vault can usually carry them between SpongeBob’s shifts, but during peak hours they need SpongeBob on duty to keep up with demand. Squidward cannot make patties from scratch as SpongeBob can, but he can reheat patties from the freezer (which is seen in several episodes) and assemble the burgers. Mr Krabs can do the same. He knows how to make them from scratch but is old so he needs SpongeBob’s help
TBF, the most common day we see them talk about having off is Sunday, Both Mr. Krabs and Squidward have talked about having that day off, so I think it's reasonable to assume that it is closed that day. In the video you showed Mr. Krabs working the grill which is what I always kinda assumed happened when Spongebob isn't there. As for the whole case of Squidward being both good and bad at making patties, I always liked to think of it as time going on he improved, as to how this lines up with the episodes it's hard to say since this show isn't exactly supper continuous, but I like to think that as time has gone on, Squidward has improved in cooking.
Yeah but in Squids day off it’s a Sunday. Squidward states at the beginning of the episode “It’s Sunday, nobody ever comes in on Sunday.” Which does give us reason to believe they aren’t opened on Sundays bcuz of the fact that nobody goes in there. Although by the end of the episode it’s revealed they forgot to switch the sign to opened.
KK is closed on Sunday Spongebob has Monday off, when he goes to boating school Squidward has Saturday off, where he does his art things. So each have a 2 day weekend, with one day free from the other. When Spongebob is off, Krabs runs the grill. When Squidward is off, Krabs runs the till. Some days Tuesday to Friday, Krabs doesn't show up at all.
It's not that the plot for each episode requires Squidward to either know how to make Krabby Patties or not know, but that Squidward is putting in different amounts of effort. Sometimes he cares enough to make Krabby Patties correctly, like when he was competing with SpongeBob, but other times he doesn't give a crap, like when he burnt them (along with fries and milkshakes).
I would imagine all 3 of them can perform all jobs in the restaurant. And if needed, krabs can easily pull in his daughter if he REALLY needs to. Realistically, the only jobs needed are cash and back of house, so I'd imagine if spongebob works a late shift, krabs does grill, and if it's just squidward, then he does everything himself. It does seem like krabs and squidward crack under pressure and require Spongebob's help past a certain point, so it makes sense if krabs and squidward just take shifts while spongebob is gone.
I'm betting on Squidward just using weaponized incompetence. Busy obviously doesn't have enough money to go eat out every night so he has to cook for himself so I assume he can cook. He just doesn't want to so he acts like he can't
My theory is Spongebob and Squidward work on different schedules. Monday it's just Squidward and Krabs, then Tuesday-Friday is all 3, then Saturday is just Spongebob and Krabs. The Krusty Krab closes every Sunday so when we see all 3 of them outside then it's likely on that day. They can all cook Krabby Patties, but Krabs and Squidward cannot cook them decently when under a ton of pressure from a rush of customers. This would explain why whenever Spongebob disappears and the restaurant is in chaos it's probably on a busy day that he's supposed to be scheduled to work on. This also explains Squidward making the remark of "enjoying Spongebob's day off".
I just see episodes with SpongeBob and Squidward not at work meant Mr. Krabs was handling the restaurant alone. Honestly would like an episode exploring the idea of who runs the store when SpongeBob and Squidward are out.
With all the evidence provided, I would fully believe Krabs has a temp-controlled Patty Vault that he has Spongebob stock up before his days off or the like. How he was doing it before that though I'm still up in the air on. My guess is that Krabs worked the grill up until he started getting tired of it/couldn't convince Pearl to help out lol
Finally, the hard hitting question. However it underlines an even deeper question: who knows the formula? Despite being the senior employee squidward doesn’t seem to know the formula, however he can flip premade patties in a pinch. This is of course subject to his mood and the amount of patties in the patty vault (which was constructed after SpongeBob joined and mister crabs saw how productive he was and how the business floundered whenever he had a thing happen), and things turn ugly when they are out of patties in the vault but still experiencing SpongeBob levels of demand. So squidward appears not to know the formula, and it seems like no one else who works the grill besides Jim and SpongeBob knows it (Jim’s replacement, the teenagers from the strike episode, and the other random one offs). Even Jim is arguable since he never makes the patties just cooks them, but he seems likely to know it since he made such good food. And as the most productive fry cook in existence SpongeBob is the only one who can make fresh patties and cook them fast enough to keep the establishment afloat, since Mr crabs and squidward can do each task only much slower and not as well, meaning if the patty vault runs out they will be hard pressed to keep running a restaurant that is routinely packed to bursting with only two “normal” people.
Actually in "Sponge out of Water" when they discover that they're all out of Krabby Patty's, Mr. Krabs says: "you gotta have that formula memorized by now!", and Spongebob states that according to the employee handbook, he's not allowed to memorize the formula in any way. Not even in flashbacks or dream sequences apparently.
I find it neat that there are characters out there who know the formula and can make krabby patties as good as SpongeBob. I’m a big fan of powerscaling fictional characters in other media, so it reminds me of someone who has the feats to defeat or go toe-to-toe with the strongest character in the series. I wonder what they’re up to now, though. I wonder if they secretly make krabby patties at home for themselves and family/friends since I’m sure Krabs wouldn’t let them make use the formula at another restaurant.
Additionally, in the Pizza Delivery episode (Season 1, Episode 5) to my knowledge at the beginning Squidward, SpongeBob, and Krabs stayed in the Krusty Krab even at midnight until Krabs got an order for a "Pizza" so you could use that episode to say that Krabs wouldn't even let his workers go home.
So fish who canonically can cook krabby patties are: Spongebob Mr. Krabs Squidward Pearl Jim And Not Spongebob the patty gadget used to be able to make krabby patties before being destroyed
But why was Squidward happy at 09:45 about this fish not being Spongebob? That would either emply that Spongebob has worked at the Krusty Krab before or Squidward just absolutely despises Spongebob as his neighbour
When SpongeBob first applied at the Krusty Krab, Squidward was very insistent on SpongeBob not getting hired, so it makes sense that he despises SpongeBob
In the most realistic way you can ever imagine.Mr Krabs works as a cashier and Squidward cooks the Kraby Patty vise versa. There is no Karby Patty vault,it’s was just there for plot convenience. If both workers are absent Mr. Krabs will have to man the business himself as u would expected.
I think Squidward's ability to cook depends on how overworked he is that day. It'd explain the inconsistency. Besides that, it could also be that we've been presented the episodes out of chronological order (for example, as if someone is telling them as they're remembering each story).
10:58 Does that mean Squidward and Spongebob knew each other before Sponge was working at the Krusty Krab? Or maybe it's just Present Squidward acting in Past Squidward's flashback.
Thank you!! The patty valt was my personal head cannon for a long while, Especially when everyone was already eating before SpongeBob started working. Helped my stay sane enough to enjoy this lovely cartoon 😅
i haven’t seen the new new eps but my assumption was always that krabs started solo so knew how to run grill + registers before sponge/squid, squidward CAN work grill but hates getting sweaty and smelling like a fry cook when he gets home. it was probably krabs on grill with squid on register before SpongeBob, supplemented by the patty vault or squid when sponge is gone ❤
I think it could be a combination of the 3 theories, that when Bob has to miss work one day, he prepares the Patties and stores them in the Vault (Now changed place due to the Squidward incident), and when they run out of patties, is Squidward or Mr. Krabs who are behind the grill when that happens.
When Spongebob and squiward went on strike , krabs hired a new crew but apparently they were very annoying, so krabs begs to squiward to back job, so there's a chance when Spongebob isn't around one of those kids working there, also in graveshift there was this strange dude asking for in the middle of the nigth, so he might be working in Spongebob free day or before his shift begins
I never realized that realistically they needed more employees as a kid. I currently work as a fry cook and let me tell you it ain't easy with three people. You have to prep, portion and cook bacon to hold. Not to mention there are days where you have to put away truck. And sometimes you have to clean up after night crew. And no, it isn't always their fault. Sometimes staff is so short and there's a strict time where you have to clean up and it's harder because someone has to be sent home early because of labor.
I thought about this too like sometimes when spongebob isnt there they're all starving. But then I remembered they have this giant krabby patty vault so thats probably what they're using
Honestly, the patty vault is the most plausible theory #1 krabs wouldnt have to hire another cook #2 he saves money both on work and gas for the grill, cuz he can just turn it off on days sb isnt working #3 it sounds like something krabs would do
I wouldn't be surprised if Krabs does sell those day old patties from the vault despite that he's even sold moldy patties and served them as "Spongy Patties" and even the time when he tries to sell the old patty that SpongeBob finds under the grill that one time
Squidward can make crabby patties but he doesn't want to work two people's jobs for the same pay so he intentionally messes up when asked to replace SpongeBob rather than just cover a shift of his which he then blames on stress causing him to slip. That's a fully in character explanation and one I've seen at work with some of my irl co-workers, they can work two stations for a week but come second week one of the station costs the company more than it makes due to "careless" mistakes
I think Friend or Foe was how the recipe was originally made, but when they went to the past and grilled them for the dragon, giving Medieval Krabs the recipe, that split the timeline and why sometimes it's a family recipe.
In that episode with the Hash Slinging Slasher, the guy came in looking for a job and even brought his own spatula. I could see him on the night shift since he came after dark.
How can Mr. Krabs comes up with the Krabby Patty formula himself if it's a family receipt? That was revealed in the episode where Plankton tries to date Mrs. Krabs
i hae suggested cooking 100 burgers at the beginning of a shift and just microwaving to order, so far no one has gone for it but this has renewed my vigor
Most of the comments below said it already, but, I agree with them that Squidward has fry cook ability he keeps tucked away until he absolutely has to. It’s just another part of work he doesn’t want to do. As a super market employee, I can relate! Krabs works the grill and floor in the odd episodes where the other two aren’t in house for whatever reason. I seem to remember the strike episode being the first example of this. And then, occasionally, you have the random times when other cooks are manning the grill like the guy Squidward kissed. Fascinating look at the lore despite the inconsistency
I always thought Spongebob would just make enough to last while he was away that would be kept warm under a heat lamp. Sounds like something Mr. Krabs would do.
Bubble Buddy takes place on Lief Erikson day. In 2001, that was a Tuesday. So perhaps monday and tuesdays are less busy for the KK, with Squidward and Spongebob each working both positions on each of those days
I think they fill up the patty vault when they know Spongebob will be gone the next day, but when it’s an unscheduled leave/late I assume Krabs or Squidward will run the grill til he gets back
He probably has SpongeBob make a bunch of them then freezes them, for later just in case. Only issue with this thought is that there's no way SpongeBob would be okay with the freezing bit, but I guess he could convince him that it makes the burger taste better or something.
I always though Mr Krabs was there alone when SpongeBob and squidward are not,we know he knows how to work a grill and register

Cool
And considering squidward doesn't even like his normal job he probably faked not being able to make the patties those times when he burnt them.

Sunday: Krusty Krab Closed
Monday: 10am to 6pm, Krabs and Squidward.
Tuesday - Friday: 10am to 6pm, All 3.
Saturday: 10am to 6pm: Krabs and SpongeBob.
That would mean Bubble Buddy took place on a Monday, while The Nasty Patty took place on a Saturday.
I vaguely remember the KK closing at 8P, I think, but otherwise agreed.
That’s cool
@@LeonCoretz I think that was the episode where Krabbs opened the night shift.
Can't wait for the extended Spongebob Timeline video down to the in universe dates.
You always imagined this?
I remember in one of the OLD episodes, the one where Spongebob got the squeaky boots and Mr. Krabs went crazy over them, a customer walked up to Mr. Krabs and asked to order and Krabs pulled out a note book and pencil, ready to take the dude's order. It may be a small detail, but at least shows me that Mr. Krabs isn't above helping out on the floor when he's out there to help take orders or what not.
It IS Krab’s business after all
Mr. Krabs love for money made him do it
Krabs would rather get off his ass then hire a 3rd employee
On the night shift episode a new fish wants to work on the Krusty Krab at the night shift, so the idea of having two crews could be possible
Mr. Krabs isn't aware his restaurant is even open on that episode. Nosferatu is running the business without permission. It doesn't count.
@bluehairedaigaming I am talking about the original night shift episode, where the "serial killer" is actually a fish that want to apply for the night shift, it is true that we don't see He talking to Krabs but with spongebob and squidward, but my point is that it isn't impossible that they have a night shift crew
2 vs mr krabs
@@RafaCB0987 I assume the night shift policy is just something that Krabs might change every now and then. I’m pretty sure there’s at least a couple episodes where not only does SB and SW’s shifts end, but Krabs himself closes the Krusty Krab, locking the door, leaving the lights off, and with no visible customers in sight.
@@bluehairedaigaming It’s saddening that your first thought about a Night Shift episode is that one and not the original.
On a side note, there was a scene in "Nature Pants" where SpongeBob forlornly stares at a table full of Krabby Patties through the Krusty Krab window.
@@NoFlu He just takes the register with him.
I kind of like the idea of kravs cooking which for him probably feels more like a hobby now
I always believed that Squidward was actually a competent cook, it’s just that whenever he doesn’t want to do the work of SpongeBob he does an atrociously bad job as an act of rebellion.
Ooh, that's a good one. Makes total sense
Imagine seasons 1-3 SpongeBob are stuck working and somewhere along the post movie seasons the flanderized modern SpongeBob is the “clone” running around that we follow. It would explain the character change lol
It's his dummy from The Chaperone.
It’s funny how Alex Bale videos always say and act like SpongeBob has perfect continuity and all these secret things when Awe points out all the time that the writers have so little consistency they often can’t even be bothered to know what happened in older episodes so they just write something totally contradictory
I don't think anyone should worry about continuity in a cartoon that clearly does not care nor does it really need to care about it.
Alex Bale is definitely not serious with his series and it's just having fun. He doesn't seem like he's trying to do a math hat and establish the continuity for all his viewers
Continuity exists regardless of if the creators care about it or not
@@cheeseboi588You know Alex Bale plays all that up as a joke right? He knows it's a comedy cartoon with no consistency
@@klaykid117 Case in point at 10:14.
Imagine if you did a video on how many times Patrick has worked at the Krusty Krab. More than someone may realize
Here is my theory:
After Jim quit as the fry cook, Mr.
Krab got the idea for the night shift employees to fill in SpongeBob and Squidward's place. that's why spongebob's paycheck is too little because now he has more employees
If both Squidward and SpongeBob got a day off, Mr. Krab does everything himself or sometimes calls Pearl for extra help.
Also Krabs probably realized Plankton could easily break into the vault
I’d like to think things would be easier if the HashSlingingSlasher was kept in when bob was not working.
could be that spongebob cooks enough krabby patties that he can get a day off and they just heat them up when somebody wants them

Thing is, when it's open for days or extra hours, it tends to backfire
So a day off is probably standard when he isn't trying to pull that
@1stCallipostle But like I said, regularly Sponge Bob is not working for several consecutive days. For instance, in My life as a teenage Gary, both Sponge bob and squidward are not at work for 3 days over the weekend.
I think that the KK is just not open on weekend canonically.
Sunday trading hours vary by country. Who says Bikini Bottom follows the laws and traditions of whatever country you're talking about?
@@OnTheThirdDaynah SpongeBob just used his paid time off obviously
@@SirHurricane_ paid time off? We learn that SpongeBob and squidward don't even get breaks. Krabs would never give PTO.
Squidward hates his job, but he is still good at his job. He burnt a shake: intentionally.
KK is closed on Sunday
Spongebob has Monday off, when he goes to boating school
Squidward has Saturday off, where he does his art things.
So each have a 2 day weekend, with one day free from the other.
When Spongebob is off, Krabs runs the grill. When Squidward is off, Krabs runs the till.
Some days Tuesday to Friday, Krabs doesn't show up at all.
3:25 i thought that was a gunshot
He burnt my shake 7:55
The delivery of that line will never not make me chuckle
I figured Spongebob and Squidward can only afford such nice houses because they work almost everyday
or because in 1999, when the show came out, a person working fast food being able to own a home wasn't unreasonable.
Probably the patty vault
Heres the thing, the Krusty Krab canonicaly closes at 6pm so id imagine the Krusty Krab is closed on Sundays and possibly Wednesdays
He wouldn't want to make Neptune mad
@Jaiden_Anime_Shuns Exactly 🤣

Squiddy cooked em
Fun fact: 5:04 the SpongeBob episode your shoes’ untied was how I finally learned how to learn to tie my shoes as a kid ❤
Gary the snall is better teacher then some people
3:59 Mr. Krabs also mentions Squidward's absence in the Season 6 episode Chum Caverns.
Jim wins 10/10 low diff
Jim works at some fancy restaurant (i'm not sure if it's the ship in a bottle one or elsewhere) hence why he's so rich.
So fish who canonically can cook krabby patties are:
Spongebob
Mr. Krabs
Squidward
Pearl
Jim
And Not Spongebob
the patty gadget used to be able to make krabby patties before being destroyed
They can definitely make them but SpongeBob is probably more efficient on the grill especially during lunch
Bro I absolutely love your channel, much love from the Netherlands🇳🇱
I think Squidward's ability to cook depends on how overworked he is that day. It'd explain the inconsistency. Besides that, it could also be that we've been presented the episodes out of chronological order (for example, as if someone is telling them as they're remembering each story).
10:58 Does that mean Squidward and Spongebob knew each other before Sponge was working at the Krusty Krab? Or maybe it's just Present Squidward acting in Past Squidward's flashback.
They're neighbors
Squidward literally tells Mr Krabs not to hire Spongebob by name in the first episode
In SB-129, it is confirmed the Krusty Krab is closed in Sunday
Yet in the episode Squid’s Day Off they’re open on Sunday lmao
Canon? I didn't think such a thing even existed in SpongeBob.
Thank you!! The patty valt was my personal head cannon for a long while, Especially when everyone was already eating before SpongeBob started working. Helped my stay sane enough to enjoy this lovely cartoon 😅

3:00 I consider him a subject of Squidwards warped memory. He's a stand-in for the pre-Sprongebob era
I like to believe that Squidward just got better at fry cooking throughout the seasons.
This was a neat and cool one , Yeah I kinda always tough of this ngl and this was a good one loved it so much keep it up man.
you sound like you could be the narrator
i haven’t seen the new new eps but my assumption was always that krabs started solo so knew how to run grill + registers before sponge/squid, squidward CAN work grill but hates getting sweaty and smelling like a fry cook when he gets home.
it was probably krabs on grill with squid on register before SpongeBob, supplemented by the patty vault or squid when sponge is gone ❤
I think it could be a combination of the 3 theories, that when Bob has to miss work one day, he prepares the Patties and stores them in the Vault (Now changed place due to the Squidward incident), and when they run out of patties, is Squidward or Mr. Krabs who are behind the grill when that happens.
I always just assumed there was door between krab's office and the kitchen, an mr.krabs just filled in for SpongeBob/Squidward whenever need be
Krabs has other back up fry cooks waiting for him, he probably just calls them
6:47
Did Squidward just say "Spongecoc"?
think he said "Spongecog"
He said spongecog
Remember the patty vault? That's how they do it
What about that guy on that episode where Spongebob was late many times, so he got clocks all over town to help him.
Sponge Tom from broken alarm
When Spongebob and squiward went on strike , krabs hired a new crew but apparently they were very annoying, so krabs begs to squiward to back job, so there's a chance when Spongebob isn't around one of those kids working there, also in graveshift there was this strange dude asking for in the middle of the nigth, so he might be working in Spongebob free day or before his shift begins
There's a fourth option, that guy from graveyard shift cooks the Patty's
Its probably a combination of Squidward, Krabs and the Patty Vault, with the latter being utilized when the lunch rush is too much for the other two.
thank you so much for making this, it was driving me crazy weeks ago and i was hoping you would!!!!!!!
I feel like closing the Krusty krab on some days is the only way to make spongebob take his legally-required breaks
it's also important to remember that squidward was the employee of the day before spongebob was hired
Maybe it's actually just Mr. Krabs' shit with spices and the customers are eating Eugene's excrement
I thought about this too like sometimes when spongebob isnt there they're all starving. But then I remembered they have this giant krabby patty vault so thats probably what they're using
Honestly, the patty vault is the most plausible theory
#1 krabs wouldnt have to hire another cook
#2 he saves money both on work and gas for the grill, cuz he can just turn it off on days sb isnt working
#3 it sounds like something krabs would do
It's kind of endearing that Squiddy learned how to cook over time
I wouldn't be surprised if Krabs does sell those day old patties from the vault despite that he's even sold moldy patties and served them as "Spongy Patties" and even the time when he tries to sell the old patty that SpongeBob finds under the grill that one time
Squidward can make crabby patties but he doesn't want to work two people's jobs for the same pay so he intentionally messes up when asked to replace SpongeBob rather than just cover a shift of his which he then blames on stress causing him to slip.
That's a fully in character explanation and one I've seen at work with some of my irl co-workers, they can work two stations for a week but come second week one of the station costs the company more than it makes due to "careless" mistakes
That's an interesting life hack, just prep a bazillion extra burgers and take the day off quality be damned.
I think Squidward's cooking depends on what mood and attitude he's in
You forgot to mention whenever Patrick gets hired and fired in the same day
If Mr Krabi would sell spongebobs soul for like 25 cents he is not closing the restaurant when spongebob doesn’t work
I think Friend or Foe was how the recipe was originally made, but when they went to the past and grilled them for the dragon, giving Medieval Krabs the recipe, that split the timeline and why sometimes it's a family recipe.
I'm glad that someone else was also thinking about this.
Krabs
I think Squidward just makes bad patties on purpose so he doesn't have to do it anymore
i hae suggested cooking 100 burgers at the beginning of a shift and just microwaving to order, so far no one has gone for it but this has renewed my vigor
It’s simple really they are not open during the night unless Mr.Krabs makes them work late like the several episodes where he did.
I was always fascinated by the idea of the Krusty Krab having a different shift of workers. Or even Krabbs himself is able to man customer service
I have a hard time believing mr crabs would let the crusty crubs be closed for sunday. The man would probably feel like it is costing him money.
Bubble Buddy takes place on Lief Erikson day. In 2001, that was a Tuesday. So perhaps monday and tuesdays are less busy for the KK, with Squidward and Spongebob each working both positions on each of those days
I think they fill up the patty vault when they know Spongebob will be gone the next day, but when it’s an unscheduled leave/late I assume Krabs or Squidward will run the grill til he gets back
I think that second flash back was actually just Squidward daydreaming
He probably has SpongeBob make a bunch of them then freezes them, for later just in case.
Only issue with this thought is that there's no way SpongeBob would be okay with the freezing bit, but I guess he could convince him that it makes the burger taste better or something.
This guy is asking the real question
I always assumed the patties that Spongebob or Squidward aren't shown making are premade by Spongebob the previous day.
