The use of the buses in Help Wanted is not unusual. In the first episode, it looks like they're travelling. Rock Bottom and Nasty Patty are my favorite Spongebob Episodes. There just is something about it when Spongebob gets a little darker, slightly lonely and mysterious. Almost like an RPG or so, in a good way.
Whoever made the image for the official map is probably the same person who decided where to stick the locations on the map. I doubt anyone consulted the people who made the decisions on how the buses got around in the actual show.
With the jellyfishing bus, I think that might be akin to a private coach where it was booked specifically for the event and it stopped at individual houses to collect everyone.
There seems to be a slight disconnect here… the way the public buses work wherever I’ve lived or traveled, there is a cord you can tug on the side if you want to get off at a non-designated stop. So you don’t need a bus stop sign for a bus to stop anywhere, that’s just where they HAVE to stop.
Whereas where I live and travelled that just causes them to stop at the next stop. If no one is at a stop they will drive straight through outside terminals and major stops if no one pulls to get off. And no bus stop means no stopping regardless how many times you pull the cord or hit the button.
Buses do stop in the middle of nowhere. Once had to take such a bus as a way back into town... What a ride. In order to get to the bus stop I had to hike like 2.5 miles along a road.

Glove world would make a good episode, it was used enough to give a idea but it's also unused enough to let people put together the location. It kinda disappeared from newer episodes so it's not gonna change much either.
Didn't glove world have an episode about how it was unmaintained and turned into a death trap? Unless that was a different amusement park, I assume the lore reason would be that it shut down later on as it was clearly running out of money.
So, regarding the rock bottom episode - there are 2 possible routes from Glove World to Conch street: Dark Blue -> Red or Green -> Light Blue -> Red. I'm assuming Sponge Bob and Patric did take the wrong bus on the way home, the green one, and since their regular route requires a bus change (from dark blue to red) it would make sense for them to get off and take another bus somewhere along the way, especially with them not paying any attention. And then it also works the other way around because you can get from Rock Bottom to Conch street and the other way around, just taking way more busses. The only flaw in this logic is the fact that the bus driver is the same fish in the Glove World stop and in the Rock Bottom, but it has to be a different bus. My headcannon is that the bus driver got so mad he decided to take a different route and leave Sponge Bob at Rock Bottom

With us, the bus does not stop at every stop. Only when you press a button to say you want to get off or when people are waiting at that stop. There is also a service where the bus lets you off outside of a stop in the evening so that you can get home faster. But this service is only offered late in the evening. After 10 p.m.
That's exactly how it is in my city. It's just a pretty logical way for North American buses to be set up. If there's no people standing around the street, there's no reason to stop
i feel like the bus situation would be less weird if there were more varied bus models. the buses in "help wanted" feel more like a coach bus (like, the anchovies were on a school field trip or something (haha get it fish and school)) while the ones that stop at the dedicated bus stops are more like regular buses that go on a route. you could also probably rent a bus in bikini bottom for specific purposes, like the jellyfishing bus. if they had different models this would be clearer.
I always thought that there were 2 major routes, a bikini bottom centric route that does loops around major areas of the city, and then a separate intercity bus route that visits bikini bottom, rock bottom, and probably other locations like tentacle acres (assuming it's far away, otherwise it would probably be on the intracity route), which would probably be why spongebob immediately recognizes that he's on the wrong but when it leaves bikini bottom. any other buses are probably tour buses or more privately owned / specialized
What made old episodes great was the discontinuity in environment for one off jokes that weren’t totally forced but presented themselves in the writing. I love your descriptions!
12:08 80,000,000 fathoms is 480,000,000 feet, or 90,909 miles, or roughly 38% of the distance to the moon, and very close to the diameter of Jupiter. At this depth, the water pressure would be around 106,502 tons per square inch, or 213,004,117 psi. The highest psi in Earth's oceans obviously comes nowhere near that, being a lowly 15,750.
Honestly in that regard, how about making a video that shows what bikini bottom looks like on a map? Of course just like with the krusty krab video, it changes where everything is, but I dunno would be interesting to see different interpretations and maps of it
The town, and surrounding suburbs, where I live the buses just stop wherever they need to on their route. Picking people up is generally done at designated spots but not all of them have a clear and obvious sign, you can also just press a button to indicate you're where you want to be let off.
I think the buses seen in "Help Wanted" and "Banned in Bikini Bottom" are chartered buses. Like a bunch of people going to a convention or something all chipped in to rent a bus. That's definitely the case with the Hockey bus. Usually they're school buses or coach buses, not city buses, but I don't think the animators wanted to come up with another model for a bus anyway. I can definitely believe that Shady Shoals owns that bus, too. Some retirement homes have mini shuttle buses to take residents around town.
0:50 There is no bus stop, they are like buses that drive to dedicated places, like an airport bus. Maybe there is a "Krusty Krab Express" in BB coming from Bikini Bottom Central Station?! Idk it's so weird, they stop there but there never is an actual bus stop. :(
What’s the work schedule at the krusty Krab like? Squidward definitely had work on the day that he drove the bus, but SpongeBob definitely wasn’t working. Who manned the grill? Mr. Krabs? Gary?
You know what still to this day when ever I see that episode of anyone that shows SpongeBob & squidward not at work I be like so is the Krusty krab closed or is Mr krabs doing all the cooking like what !😭😭💁♂️
Just like what happened to the patty vault. That would explain how some people eat krabby patties before spongebob shows up that obviously squidward didn't cook. But we never see it again
Changing bus stops makes sense when in real life (at least where I live) they keep changing the damn routes. If you assume busses work the same way they do where I live, they go both ways. We have line routes where it turns around at each end and goes back down. No circle routes far as I know.
In my city, there are plenty of unmarked yet still official bus stops, and you can flag them down at any point along their route. For the most part, as long as you know the routes and are paying attention to where you're at, you can get to just about anywhere with at most a 3 block walk
There are probably a bunch of routes in the bikini area. The driver in rock bottom got to the town's bus station and likely just switched routes. Patrick may have gotten on a bus that goes past Conch Street instead of glove world. The help wanted buses were probably hired privately
In regards to Patrick heading for Rock Bottom and passing Conch Street: Maybe the bus line that goes to Rock Bottom passes Conch Street, then to Glove World, and then to Rock Bottom, going the stations in reverse on the return route. It's fairly common in some places that buses run the same route back and forth, unless it loops back to the starting station. So, Patrick took the same bus he rode initially with Spongebob to get *to* Glove World, likely intending to pass by Glove World and head for Rock Bottom, rather than taking a bus from Glove World to Conch Street. Same applies to the Jellyfish Fields, where they can ride a bus from Conch Street to the Fields and back again, because the bus line (maybe the same that goes to Rock Bottom?) runs on a route that goes back and forth like that.
For the buses that stop at locations that don't have assigned bus stops, such as the Krusty Krab, they could be charter buses. For example, the buses that stopped at the Krusty Krab could've been chartered by the anchovies specifically to drive them around Bikini Bottom. (The same could be said for the bus that stopped at SpongeBob's house; the jellyfishing group rented the bus for private use.) I can speak from experience because I live in Amish Country and I see elderly tourist groups riding in rented buses fairly often. The other possibility is that the Bikini Bottom bus system has both dedicated/permanent stops and custom/private stops. For example, the buses will always stop at dedicated bus stops, but they will only stop at custom locations, such as a private residence (e.g., Sandy's house), if a passenger on the bus, say, presses a button to alert the bus driver of their desire to disembark from the bus. I suppose there is a third possibility: the buses will stop at well-known landmarks and buildings in the Bikini Bottom area, even if they don't have a sign indicating that a bus stop is there. That would explain why the bus stops at the Krusty Krab, Jellyfish Fields, and Goofy Goober's, since surely those places qualify as a popular destinations. As for the buses that are marked as being for Shady Shoals and the Bikini Bottom hockey team, those are obviously charter buses, so they don't follow the same routes as the public transportation system.
These seem to be the type of buses that only stop on demand, so if you forgot to tell the driver or didn't yell your stop loud enough, good luck with your new destination lol
As for the conch street buss, as someone who uses noses often, when it's a small street, the buses won't bother to stop EXACTLY on the stop, and will just be near, and as for the sign itself, it probably gets broken often, considering who lives there, and there repair man (again, because it is a small street) probably don't bother putting it in its exact correct spot, and sometimes it may take days for them to come in and fix it, explaining it's absence in some episodes. Honestly, the inconsistency here can be easily explained by the negligence of the buss driver and repair main due to conch Street being a 3 house neighbourhood.
In the Revenge of the Flying Dutchman game, there are 4 bus stops, and 5 total locations. There's Bikini Bottom, Downtown, Treedome, Goo Lagoon, Jellyfish Fields and Chum World. There is also the Dutchman's ship but I'm not counting that as it isn't part of Bikini Bottom. I believe the 4 buses will take you from conch street to Goo lagoon, Krusty krab to downtown and then I think two other buses to Jellyfish Fields and Chum World (you walk to the tree dome) Yet in the show a bus also takes you to Rock Bottom. Obviously a licensed game isn't going to have much consistency but the buses are a major part in that they're required to progress or change level. Let's just say they're about as consistent as UK buses😂
“we don’t see it connected to any other bus stops” …there has only been one beach ever shown in Bikini Bottom: Goo Lagoon. the guys going to the beach means they went there, thus the bus does actually go there
In small towns, you can ask the bus driver to stop on a street that it passes on and dosnt usually stop. Like theres a few places on the outskirts that dont have a stop but the bus driver will stop if you ask him
Half of these busses aren't public busses, they're chartered busses.
So they have no consistent stops. They go where the group that is chartering the bus wants to go

All great men are gifted with intuition. They know without reasoning or analysis, what they need to know.
The busses probably have a cord/button to request a stop, even where there isnt an official stop
His son quipped that power bars were nothing more than adult candy bars.
I used to live in my neighbor's fishpond, but the aesthetic wasn't to my taste.
7:22 I wish every single bikini bottom bus had rollsigns
The bus knows who needs the bus
Bro really put his own video in "Top Tier Sponge" lol
The woman next to Squidward waiting for the bus would have been funnier if it was just like a skeleton and it didn’t talk.
Commenting here before TH-cam marks this is made for kids again
why do they need the bus to work when the krusty krab is right down the street?

In my city, there are plenty of unmarked yet still official bus stops, and you can flag them down at any point along their route. For the most part, as long as you know the routes and are paying attention to where you're at, you can get to just about anywhere with at most a 3 block walk
There are probably a bunch of routes in the bikini area. The driver in rock bottom got to the town's bus station and likely just switched routes. Patrick may have gotten on a bus that goes past Conch Street instead of glove world. The help wanted buses were probably hired privately
the line about patrick being on the wrong bus was a fire double entendre
Bikini bottom has better public transot then LA smh
this video just makes me believe awe has never been on a bus before
In regards to Patrick heading for Rock Bottom and passing Conch Street:
Maybe the bus line that goes to Rock Bottom passes Conch Street, then to Glove World, and then to Rock Bottom, going the stations in reverse on the return route.
In conclusion, in sponge bob there is nothing consistent, expect literally anything. And that's what makes it a funny and great show
For the buses that stop at locations that don't have assigned bus stops, such as the Krusty Krab, they could be charter buses.
Most buses in this show are not public transportation, but chartered buses for organized trips
ive always thought one of these would be fun to drive
In the Revenge of the Flying Dutchman game, there are 4 bus stops, and 5 total locations. There's Bikini Bottom, Downtown, Treedome, Goo Lagoon, Jellyfish Fields and Chum World. There is also the Dutchman's ship but I'm not counting that as it isn't part of Bikini Bottom. I believe the 4 buses will take you from conch street to Goo lagoon, Krusty krab to downtown and then I think two other buses to Jellyfish Fields and Chum World (you walk to the tree dome)
Yet in the show a bus also takes you to Rock Bottom.
Obviously a licensed game isn't going to have much consistency but the buses are a major part in that they're required to progress or change level.
Let's just say they're about as consistent as UK buses😂
They never explained in The Graveyard Shift why the bus ran late to the Krusty Krab.
i love obsessing over transit in fictional media
11:15
They’re called elevated highways apparently. I didn’t know what they were called either, I had to google it.
Glad we're asking the important questions.
No way it's you from the boykisser video
Some of the best SpongeBob content I’ve seen ❤❤
“we don’t see it connected to any other bus stops”
…there has only been one beach ever shown in Bikini Bottom: Goo Lagoon. the guys going to the beach means they went there, thus the bus does actually go there
6:17 Patrick might have got on a limited or express bus which makes Skip stop service between stops that are not used a lot
At 2:04 spongebob opens his animated frontdoor to reveal the background frontdoor rather than the inside of his house.
Bikini Bottom really does have an incredible public transit system for how many areas barely have any people.
11:22 thats called an overpass
In small towns, you can ask the bus driver to stop on a street that it passes on and dosnt usually stop. Like theres a few places on the outskirts that dont have a stop but the bus driver will stop if you ask him
