my birth story | positive induction + things I regret

  • this wasn't the original birth story I wanted to tell but this has been the biggest learning experience. pregnancy and birth is a physiological process that we can't always influence and control. being open going into my induction and changing my mindset ultimately led to an amazing experience. you absolutely can have medical interventions and still have a positive birth experience.

I was a C-section baby and a rainbow baby, as well as an infertility baby! It heartens me to see your opinion on inductions and "unnatural" birth change so dramatically. There's many issues with the medical community and its attachments to big pharma, etc, but science really is amazing and we have these options and precautions available to us for a reason!
Congratulations to your family and welcome to the world, Fern!

I am deadly afraid of pregnancy, childbirth and a lot of other stuff that has to do with bringing a human into the world, so I don't think I'll ever have children, but somehow hearing you talk about the whole process in such a realistic and down to earth way felt comforting and reassuring. I hope you and baby Fern are alright and wish you the best ❤️

Pregnancy for me was wonderful ! Granted towards the end u might get swollen feet/legs due to weight but to have a life in you is a total blessing from God Almighty. Delivery can be painful but what I did was put my mind on my Lord Jesus and prayed. I enjoyed all my pregnancies. Just Trust God and remember children are blessings from God🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

I took a class on maternal care in the US and the main thing I learned is that if the mom is happy and safe during the birth, that's the most important thing. I'm glad that your birth, although not what you expected, was overall a good experience. You being happy and Fern being here is what matters. Congratulations!

    • @abbyz13

Giiiirl you do not have to explain or justify all the choices you made It is your body! I really hate how women are shamed or made to feel less than for using the medical advantage we have now days for birthing. Giving birth is still extremely painful with or with out an epidural and as long as your child is born healthy and your healthy too that’s all that should matter!
And I pushed for 4 hours! I remember thinking I was only gonna push for like 30min and being shook when it had been 4 hours. My dr had to use the vacuum as the last resort before having to do a C-section and that was the only thing I did not want so thank god he finally came out but man was there some tearing 😣

right? those new methods/medicines are there for a reason! I'm tired of people saying mothers have more credit if they birth their childs in the most painful, uncomfortable way. I don't have kids and I think I never would want to have them, but if I change my plans and I end up getting pregnant, you can bet I'm going to use every drug and medicine available and I'm going to get numb as hell. There's just no way I'm pushing a thing the size of a watermelon without assistance

But hearing your story makes me so proud of you and realize that I did have a successful induction. You did such a good job Sarah! I know it's hard when you hope very hard for something and it just doesn't pan out, there's a grieving of what you wish could've been, been there with my sisters. A lot of people say "you ended up with a healthy baby, what could you be upset about?" but it's YOUR body and YOUR labour and recovery experience and you are entirely valid in your feelings.
And dearest Fern, she's so teeny tiny but so alert! All of the babies in my family have been potatoes the first three months, constant "can we please see your eyes, just for a minute?? 👀" 😄 And Fern is such a lovely, simple, timeless name, and combined with a lovely middle name it sounds like something out of a storybook 🌿💚

I just had my baby, I had to have a c section because he was breech. It was such a weird feeling scheduling when my baby would come. It wasn’t how I thought things would go but I watched your video during my pregnancy and saw how you remained positive even though things didn’t go exactly how you hoped and that helped me realize that I need to stay positive and accept the things I can’t control. I was sooo scared but everything went fine and my baby boy is here!! I will say I find it odd when people say I didn’t have a “natural” birth.. as if it is UN natural? Idk lol my baby and I wouldn’t have survived a “natural” birth so I’m very thankful for the other medical interventions

Okay I just finished watching so now I have to comment again, I really applaud your honesty about it all! The pain, the accepting of medicine, how they treated you post-partum, the pooping. I've heard so many times that older mothers will purposely lie/exclude details about their birthing story to make it sound 'not so bad' as to not scare off any young people from trying for a family. So I'm glad to have that refreshing point of view!

I never thought I would want to really watch something like this. I never thought much about pregnancy and child birth other than the fact that I'm terrified of it. It's only after seeing my best friend become a mother that it became more real to me, like more relatable in a way, even though I haven't gone through it. In the past few years I've been on my own journey of embracing femininity and embodying it within myself. Now I'm fascinated by pregnancy and child birth and motherhood but I still don't think it's for me. I'm still terrified of it and I just don't think I could handle any of it. So big props to you and my dear friend and all the moms out there, no matter how the childbirth is performed. It's really beautiful and empowering even just watching from afar.

FERN!!!! What a cute name 😭
Is her middle name Samara though LOL
Okay I’ve never said this before in my life, but that’s a cute baby !!!
It’s interesting to me how parallel birth stories sound to my brachytherapy experiences. Brachytherapy is an internal radiation therapy for cancer. I went through cervical cancer treatment this year and received brachytherapy four times. From the epidural, to the fentanyl drip, to the drifting in and out of sleep while nurses come in and out of the room, the cramping, the pressure… ironic since treatment has now left me infertile. Don’t worry, I never wanted children to begin with!
I’ve just found this such an interesting similarity. Friends have warned me about cancer scenes in movies but they don’t bother me - but I can’t watch birth scenes! Strange.
Congratulations Sarah and Ryan. I’m so happy you had a positive birth experience, and as always I appreciate your honesty and transparency! Enjoy baby Fern !! Sending you lots of love !

You popped into my memory super randomly today. I watched a lot of your thrifting videos a couple years ago. I didn’t have a youtube account, so I wasn’t subscribed. I don’t know why, but today I thought to myself, “remember that alt red-head girl who made thrift videos and psychology videos?” I remembered your first name is Sarah and found you again.
Watching this video felt like a sign for me. I’ve always wanted kids, but during the pandemic - and its accompanying nightmarish altered-reality - I started seriously questioning the ethics of bringing a life into this world. I’ve been grappling with this inner conflict for almost three years now. Watching this video, hearing your story, seeing you hold your (shockingly beautiful) newborn child… it reminded me that I can be a good parent, even when complicated, unplanned, non-ideal circumstances happen. I feel so much more hope. Thank you for sharing your story with such candor. Wishing health, joy, and peace for you and your little family ✨

I had a horrific pitocin experience, but my second birth was so redeeming and beautiful! Virtually medication free, natural and it was just the best. I really felt like all my birth trauma disappeared. The ring of fire without epidural is really intense!!
Congratulations on your beautiful baby Fern. She is absolutely precious and you've officially made me have baby fever (and my youngest is 8 months old!). 💖

Congrats on baby Fern! Thank you for sharing your birth story, it will really help other women not be afraid of inductions and to form a collaborative care plan so you can get as many wishes as you can! Very different induction process here in Australia! Well done mumma! From an Australian midwife/nurse ❤️

I just found your video because of the algorithm. The last time I remember seeing your stuff was from 5 years ago. And now look at you! It’s so amazing
