I hope you enjoy this long and chatty junk journal made out of and old book tutorial. This book was literally headed to the trash at my local Friends of the Library Used Bookstore. So it was fun to breathe new life into the cover and upcycle it into a creative style junk journal. I also show how to make easy no sew journal pockets, how to seal a journal cover, how to apply metal hardware, and how I create a rounded lace spine.
I have an easy, removable journal charm tutorial coming very soon! Be sure to save this video to come right back to where we leave off🍄
If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below:)
I created this handmade, upcycled journal from and old book to use as my new personal junk journal. The theme is butterflies and mushrooms. The pages are all vintage except the cardstock I used to create pockets🍄

STAY IMAGINATIVE, STAY RESOURCEFUL
I'm just dipping my toe in the junk journal world and so love your videos tfs
This is one of the best and simplest tutorials I have ever seen. Thank you.
Because I’m very new to journal world , I am happy to see someone teach how it’s done from beg to end . Many video just rush through and show you what they did, that’s useless to a me .
Thank you
Cricket
So happy you found this video helpful 😃 thanks for watching 🫶🏽
I don't understand how anyone could ever throw away a book! 🤦🏽♀️ I just took a truckload of books from my grandparents house. My sister said to take them to goodwill... no way. There are books from the late 1800's in there, and as 'new' as the late 1980's. There were books published from 1901-1926 and books that my grandfather had when he was in elementary school in Scotland. Some of them, I know I absolutely won't be able to tear apart for journaling... but throwing out a book seems so absurd to me. 🥺
I absolutely agree with you😃
My uncle has a small, successful publishing company and he throws out a warehouse full of books each year!
@@D_Parks nooooooooooooooo!! 🤦🏽♀️🥺
I always stand up for books.
I agree with you! Books from my ancestors I would move. I have family members that throw all that away
I love listening to you explain how you make a journal! Simple, clear instructions without a bunch of extra talking or hum hawing around! I’m new to this craft but I’ve got the bug! It’s easy to get lost down a “rabbit hole” while scrolling but I have subscribed to your channel and turned on notifications so I know when you’re on or when you’ve posted a new video! Thank you!
that makes me so happy to hear! Thank you so much for the kind and wonderful feedback❤
What a gorgeous journal. I love the way you put the View Master on the edge as a spinning tab. The vintage ribbon tabs are fantastic, too. Love the cover and the great combination of papers you've tucked inside.
Oh thank you so much for watching 🥰 it was so fun to make🍄🦋🍁
If you like that, you should check out Johanna Clough. Her idea.
Wow, the time flew by quickly. I watched while eating a salad and I couldn’t look away. For me the most important part was the part you were hesitating to include. To watch you try to figure out how to decorate the cover, was so valuable to me. I got into junk journaling to try to overcome perfectionism. It’s helping. But what I haven’t’ tackled yet is developing my own process. To watch you play around a bit was extremely educational. Now to find your removable charm tutorial….thank you!
oh how wonderful!! I am so happy you liked it and found it informational:)) Thank you so much for watching!
How happy I am to have found your site..Amanita stop me every time..LOL..I am thrilled to see a REAL junk journal..no "kits" no overzelous use of ribbons , lace and jewels..Everyone has an individual style but after a while kits all look the same..
Yay..for white backed pages 😄..I am definately subscribing today..Many thanks for "the real deal".💚
Oh my goodness thank you so much!! This comment was so nice, totally made my day! Thanks for watching 😄
I completely agree! I've just discovered her!
I've just subscribed!! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR VIDEO!!!! GORGEOUS JOURNAL! This is what a junk journal means to me.😊
What a FABULOUS tutorial. ❤
I'm SO glad I found you, and have subscribed to your channel. I know I'm going to enjoy your videos very much.
Sending hugs and wishing you a blessed rest of your day! ~ Cobs (Dorset, in the UK) xxx
Made it through.. wasn't a chore at all. Very inspired
Just love this, so simple and colorful
I found your channel today while surfing TH-cam. What a serendipitous find! 👏👏👏 Thank you for all the great ideas! You are very creative.
You are so very kind!! thank you so much!!!!
First time of seeing this channel - love how you do the tutorial . Quick and to the point, not slow, endlessly repetitive.
I love what you did with this journal! And thanks for going from beginning to end. I've only made one journal, & I did use Modge Podge. But now I'm making "Envelope Notebooks" (Luise Heinzel on YT). I missed last Christmas, but I'm trying for this Christmas, now. I'm making a lot of them because I want everyone in the family to have one! (I've done big projects in the past, but I think this is the biggest!!) They're 3x7", so they're tiny & cute!!
This was exactly what I was searching for.
I have located a hard cover book that I wish to turn into an Ephemera Journal and was unsure the best way to go about what was needed to assemble it and what supplies would work best for durability and function. Thanks again for spending your time to put this project together.
I prefer long form videos, just found your channel. Love this book, as a hippie/art/nature witch, I love the esthetics of this journal. And it was a extremely pleasant video to have on as I'm currently working on a journal... and I have no particular plan at all, whatever calls to me as I make it, well, then that's the direction I continue or switch my trajectory. I enjoy making journals like this, it's very therapeutic. I LOVE that viewmaster tab! And to not just staple it in, but use a brad so it can spin! Love, love, love it! Im getting ready to start part 2, 💜🖤.
awww love your vibe:)) Makes journaling so creative and fun❤ I love view masters, they make me think of my childhood:))
I really enjoyed the tutorial. I am not sure how I found you, but i'm really glad I did. I am brand new to junk journaling, but I absolutely feel like I can make something now that I watched this. I really love those butterflies too and I'm going to try to find them. ❤
How wonderful! So glad you found me too and thank you so much for watching:))
You get a thumbs up how beautiful. The entire process
An alternative to Mod Podge is Heat and Bond iron-on fusible interfacing. I use this with fabric and book covers, chipboard, and cardstock. It grips really well and is so smooth when ironed down. You can even get into the gaps between the spine and covers and fuse a real hinge.
I love making all kinds of journals, was searching through youtube for some inspiration and different ideas when I came across your channel. I absolutely loved watching your video on making this journal. I look forward to seeing more of your ideas. Thanks for sharing. 🦋🌺
So much fun. This is my kind of journal.
Thank you so much!
This is a lovely, no-nonsense concise tutorial. Thank you!

Thank you so much!l for watching 🍄🦋🫶🏽
I love how quickly the cover went! The entire thing went so fast with your editing, I subscribed immediately ❤
I love your journal style! It is simle and beautiful. I too hesitate to use a sewing machine so it is nice to see a beautiful journal that doesn't use machine stitching.
im so happy you liked it!! I agree, I tend to shy away from sewing machines for my journal process, I think it looks beautiful, its just not for me:))
Amazing journal thanks for all the information and inspiration.
Loved the video! Have watched so many! Yours is the right pace for me! Perfect and clear instructions. Easy to follow! Thank you!

Everything you create is magical!

Oh I love the tape idea for holding the thread end
New subscriber, I love the use of an old book, it is beautiful. I have been junk journaling for about 4 years, and love learning new ways to make journals more interesting. Your instructions were easy to follow, and I love the way you made the tutorial easy to understand. Thank you from a Tennessee Country 81 year old lady.😘😘😘
aww thank you!! I very much appreciate your very kind comment🥰 We are currently floating away in really intense rain in Southern California lol
Thank you so much. I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial. I am thinking of doing one for each of my granddaughters since they have stared having their families now. I believe these will be really nice to put snapshots of their little families as they grow and say a few words to mark the occasions.
oh I love hearing that!! What a wonderful gift that will be:))
It was so enjoyable to watch you make this journal out of the old book. When I first started doing journals and I haven’t done that many I started what I would say would be a December daily in an old book and I’ve been thinking lately about getting it out, and finish it. You have inspired me. I loved hearing you talk about what you were doing and how your process works. Considering it your expression of yourself…. great!😊
Oh my goodness thank you for this very kind comment🫶🏽♥️ I truly appreciate it and thank you so much for watching 🍄🫶🏽🦋
Good thoughts and instructions. Thanks.
I followed your tutorial step-by-step the only issues I had was making the card stock pockets my paper started to be wavy I had to put them underneath something until the paper was dry to straighten them out my book was bigger than my card stock so I had to start all over again with another board a smaller one. But all in all it was a very good tutorial thank you very much for sharing
Love love love!!!
I've been making junk journals for awhile and I still learned a few new things from your video! Thank you!
So beautiful and looks like fun 🥰
Thank you for sharing this process, it turned up so lovely and you brought modpodge into my life again 😄 and fabritac (bad spelling) awesome glue. So glad that you turned up on YT 🥰 hugs Pea' ❤
aww thank you!! I appreciate you watching!!
This is an excellent tutorial! I've only made 5 and they were for family and I stressed with each one. I never thought to wrap the material, for the spine, in the way that you did. I always had a different material for the inside, but your way is so much easier. We live and learn. Great, great tutorial.
Hello there, I found your channel, and I enjoyed your explanation of your process of creating your journal. You really get your hands into it by massaging in the Hodge Podge into your spine and cover. Loved everything about it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for a great tutorial, I watched it to the very end. I can't wait to watch your other videos !
Thanks for this video! I am so happy to have found your channel.
I made it to the end. I'm a new visitor. Even though I don't use some of the techniques that you like, I respect how you were very thorough in explaining your process and, more importantly, WHY you do what you do! And I did pick up a trick or two that I like...like the view master slide! Adorable! TFS! 🌞
aww that's wonderful! Admittedly, I don't think I do everything the right way so to speak lol I kinda taught myself in the early 2000's and its just a technique that stuck, im a creature of habit☺
Wow! Amazing junk journal, you gave me some really good idea. Thank you for sharing, great job!!
Thank you so much for watching 😄

❤I love your tutorials! I love sealing with mod podge. I will have to try the rounded spine and sealing the book covers with liquitex
I love everything about it
I really enjoyed your tutorial and love your journaling.
It wasn't a long video, (not even 30 minutes) and is very informative and fun to watch. Thank you for making it and posting it. I have not yet made a junk journal, I'm watching how toos for now. I Loved the subject of this journal and would love to see a completed flip through of it.
I appreciate you watching 😄❤️🫶🏽
Stunning
❤❤love it
love it!
You’re video just popped up, and I’m glad I watched it! My daughter once told me that I get stuck because I want everything to look perfect from the first try. She said I was looking at the finished products by other artists, and wasn’t realizing the process it takes to get there. When you were doing the cover, you mentioned basically the same thing! Thanks for sharing that! Your cover was beautiful! 👍🏻😊
Your daughter is so very wise!! How lucky you are:)) Yes, I accepted long ago that my journals would never be "perfect." soon after that I began to find so much beauty bin imperfection, because it wasn't imperfect, it was just my style, and im so content in that❤ Ive come to love wrinkled fabric, torn edges, and crooked lines, its carisma!!
GIRL YOU ROCK !!!!
Very nice!! Cool journal ❤
Love the viewmaster tab, hope I can get a hold of a few 🤞🏼

I love your style and you used kid books and books like the old "Ideal" magazines! It seems now that most junk journal artists are all about selling their digital products. Thanks
