I watched this video at least six times until I was brave enough to get my book out and I did page by page with you. I put you on pause while we were ripping pages and I was shaking! How silly, it's just paper. Thanks for your guidance and your calming voice to get me through this. Thanks for all the videos and sharing your knowledge with us! 😘
Finally! Someone who is doing this altered book project in a methodical and well thought out way. Thank you Barbara. Now... I completely understand the reason behind using a glued spine book, but I think it’s important to mention that if someone wants to use the book as an art journal in which they will use wet media, the glued binding will eventually break down. I always buy the sewn binding and remove pages in the middle of the signatures. It is very hard and tedious work and you do have to be extra careful not to put too much stress on the thread, but with patience it can be done. This last book I am going to make into an altered book was very unusual. You would think each signature will have the same amount of pages. Mine didn’t. The number of pages in a signature varied from eight to fourteen. So when I tore out the pages I had to make sure I had the same amount of pages in each signature. Anyways, I am definitely going to use your method of making the pockets. I think this is going to be a ton of fun.
TFS. You make it easy to follow along. I'm new and overwhelmed with all the things a person can do in the junk journal world! I think starting with an altered book would be an easy way to get my feet wet! I'm going to do it! 🤗
I am watching this again as I go through and tear out pages and paperclip my pockets. On to inking. lol, can't wait to play along with you in this journal. Blessings.
Thank you for listing the other playlists. I started watching with your thrift shop hunt last night and popped around to some of the others but they were a little hard to find. I'm enjoying gleaning tips from each of you. I stopped at a thrift shop earlier this evening and picked out a book. I'm falling asleep as I sit here or I would start folding and tearing out pages. So excited to start .
I am book hunting this morning, I shall imagine you with me saying " ooh that's a good one, ..no not that one.."..as always I am loving your tutorials.
So glad you FINISHED the page removal process & explained it all as you went along- and showed various pocket options. Very very well done, clear, complete- enjoyed it a great deal. Thank you. Creating along with you here 🎨
Barbara I just came back on here to tell you that after struggling for a couple of years(I have no idea why) I was finally able to alter a book thanks to you and the way you explain it! Thank you for you step by step easy to understand instructions!!
First to comment! ❤ I love Gayle... she's awesome and so dedicated! I have to find a book so I can catch up. I will look around here tomorrow and go to Goodwill or the Dollar Tree as I know they sell hardback books too.
I am really enjoying seeing this process. I especially like that you are distressing the area where pages are sewn in. I feel it makes a big difference in the additional "aged look" for the book.
I've been having the book for months to do this project and after watching your second video in this series I did it . Yay You've totally inspired me and it was easier than I thought now to glue and decorate. 😘😘thank you. Sherry 💜💜💜✌✌
watched this last night - now its the morning - i got my book out and played right along with you - oh this is going to be so much fun - be well Barbara xx
Great job showing me how to tackle the 8 page tear method. I'm dong a bullet journal like the one you are doing, but decided to give this a try ! Just pockets and more pockets! Thank you for showing us step by step ! Can't wait for part 3 ! keep safe !
I have watched this series of videos several times over. I am very intimidated with this new project I am going to try but I need to keep reminding myself it is only paper and only a book I paid $1 for lol. I am ready to give this project a try. Thank you for all the inspiration. I love your easy to follow instructions. Let the new adventure begin!
Hah....my daughter just told me, her daughter-Girl-Scout, is going to make altered books, and show her fellow scouts, how to do it. So I shared this video with them because you have a way of explaining it that I think they will understand easily. Thank You Barbara!
Great video and really good tip to paper clip the pages as you go. Got my book ready to go! Thanks and looking forward to seeing you decorate the pages. X
I've been wanting to try an altered book, but was feeling overwhelmed by all of the different approaches I've seen. THIS looks like the answer to actually get me moving from watching videos to making my first book! Love, love, love your process! THANK YOU!
Yay! Uni has finished for the year last week so I can join in with you on this. I've missed my craft room and just being creative. I finally got my five items ready to send to my partner yesterday so its going to a wonderful creative summer. Thank you for the perfect timing of this series. I love how you're breaking it down. I just need to find a book that's small enough, and not the massive readers digest condensed version I currently have. I will go book hunting tomorrow to see what I can find.
Thank you Barbara, I was trying to figure out what kind of pockets and how many varieties there are for my first altered book journal. This video gave me the answers I’ve been looking for. I’m looking forward to working alongside you during this series. Thank you again for sharing your vision with us. Gentle bear hugs
I love this altered book. I have a book I started altering a few years back. There are pages in the back that I can use to practice on! Thanks so much, Barbara. I'm a subscribed fan and Instagram fan, too!!! I can hardly wait for part 3!!!!
I made one a few months ago and I had that problem where you can see the tears of the pages. It came nice but the spine it's a bit messed up and I was thinking that maybe the pages will fall apart. Yours it's coming very neat. b 🦋
Barbara, I just found your channel and you have inspired me to try this altered book junk journal. I love your easy to follow instructions. Thank you! Now I’m binge watching your channel. 💜💜💜
I make one at the same time with your tutorial 👌 I can't wait to decorate with you during the next video 😁 thank you so much sweetie, you are so inspiring. Lots of love 😘❤

Very cool! I really like to see how you do it_ I really love Gayle’s video but yours is more clear explaining on each every step from beginning to the end-adding the paper clips on each pages makes more sense where you are standing. Love it! I bought 2 reader’s digest book with lovely marbled on front along with libra sticker when you first open it. It has cute “aged” look. Off I go to get it started! 😍😍
Thank you so much for doing this series! I’ve been wanting to do and altered book, but was very unsure and a little overwhelmed. Your explanations and guidance are very clear and helpful. I enjoy watching your videos. 💗

Hello Barbara from grand island nebraska u.s.a.👋 I am new to your channel & this craft so I'm learning alot from your wonderful tutorials. I have a question before I start tearing up a book. Hi Suzy, I have never tried it with a soft cover, but ai imagine that the spine will falls apart. Also, soft cover books are usually glued together rather than sewn. But you know what, try it and find out. Either way you will learn from the experience 😊.
