The answer though is simple, there is nothing wrong with the batteries or the charger you are simply using it wrong.

Thank you, I’ve had DeWalt for years. I just bought the Drill/impact combo kit. Both batteries were giving me a steady (indicating fully charged) red light.
Yet both batteries were obviously powerless.
A quick video from you, has saved me countless hours of messing around and embarrassment.
I am very grateful you took the time to explain, this simple yet (possible costly) oversight.
    Have a Great Day!

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE FLIPPIN' REVELATION!!!!!!!! There are not enough words to express how grateful I am that you made this video, thank you sooo much!!! What really had me convinced it was the battery at fault was because one of my batteries would charge fine while just resting in there in the incorrect, not clicked in, position (a 4ah battery I have) it was only my 5ah that was giving me a problem. Sometimes it would briefly show the orange temperature problem light and solid red, sometimes it would have the red charging light blink once or twice, then go solid red.
The thing is I had watched about 4 or 5 other videos about DeWalt batteries not charging before I saw this video, none of them mentioned this simple point, I was all prepared to take my battery pack apart and start messing about with it in a very dodgy fashion, no need!!!!!!
I've prattled on about this so much now that I've probably spent three times as long typing as your video took to explain the fix, but I don't mind, it's worth it, you sir are worthy of all the time I could possibly spend singing your praises!!!!!!!!!

Yeah , because I didn't know that they had to be clicked into place , the light came on , I figured it was charging, but it would'nt flash.I took mine back to where I bought it , the salesman there was annoyed with me that I didn't know how to use the charger right , he took my drill and impact into the back room with him , I think he jacked them up somehow because they didn't work right after that , they would work some of the time , then not work at all other times. I was on a job out of town , needed these tools , didn't have power where I was working , these tools barely did the job.I had to take the set back again to get a whole new one.
All because some pencil pusher at Dewalt failed to mention in the instructions how to charge the battery proper.

Maaan, you made my day. I just bought 2x 20v DeWalt batteries and when I was putting them on the charger, a solid light would shine, saying “it’s fully charged”, when the LED display just showed one light lit up. I tried it a few times, same thing. Then I watched your vide. I reseated the battery, putting emphasis on how I was seating it and I slammed the battery into the charger and then finally … the light started flashing, telling me “it’s charging “. DeWalt should look at this problem, their parts should fit together like a “no-brainer”, we shouldn’t have to concentrate on sliding a battery into a charger. Servicemen/women and tradesmen have tight schedules to make money. DeWalt should really fire the designer and get one with a brain. Cheers, thanks bro !

My 12V batteries click in without forcing them but I assumed the new 20V batteries were different in that regard. But they required more force.

Cannot thank you enough for this video. I had already called in a warranty on one of my dcb 609 9ah batteries and was looking at doing another.

Thank you! Was about to return my new blower because I thought the battery was defective. How do they not add this to the instructions?

even in 2020 this worked. i had a battery on my charger with the solid red light and the label next to it seemed to me that if the light was illuminated, it was charging. so i had my battery on the charger for almost three days. plugged it into my drill, it spun for a second then crapped out. thanks for the tip, you're the man

The simplest thing, but was exactly the problem I had. I had returned charger, gotten new batteries from DeWalt, everything ! Thanks much.

So glad this video is here. 3 years later, some of us are still getting our first DCB115 and wondering what it won't charge the batteries. Thanks!

I took my first one back and got a replacement before I realised the battery had to click into place. Glad someone made a video to let people know.

Thanks buddy! Your a life saver! Had the exact same issue and the the manual doesn't explain that the battery has to click in place to get a proper charge like you have shown us in your video.👍🙂

Haha it was that simple. I was just about to take it back to the shop and let them know it wasn't working and thought I would Google it first. Your video was the first one to show up. Thank you so much you have saved me a wasted trip 🙂

I just got a new flexvolt advantage drill yesterday and had my wife plug it in before I got home from work. It was flashing red and yellow and I was a little miffed by that. Thanks lol. I didn’t know about the click. They do charge without the click but not properly.

*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*
