  • ROG Zephyrus M16 is a nice piece of engineering: it has a crazy powerful configuration, but somehow keeps the temperatures in in check and the laptop’s thickness as well.

I own this laptop for the last week and I can say it's amazing! If you can close an eye regarding the high noise from the cooling system when in performance mode, it's the perfect laptop. Also, you can take it also to the office without your laptop screaming that you are a gamer :)

Is the fan noise too loud even when not doing extensive gaming? I want to use it for mostly coding and light gaming so I need to know this.

@@HydraStar01 when I use for office work or watching movies, is completely silent, maybe from time to time the cooler starts but you won't even notice it. The only time I noticed the noise is in the games but otherwise, is silent for usual tasks.

@@mihaifrincu3039 is it too noisy in games? Like intolerable without headphones? Also how about the hot air blowing into the screen since the fan vents are so close? I'm really afraid the heat would damage the screen.

@@HydraStar01 to be honest, I do not use headphones in games and I cant say it's too loud. I don't see any issue with the air blowing into the screen. Just go for it, u won't regret it :) Had a G15, returned it to get a Lenovo Legion then returned that because I liked Asus the most, especially this M16.

@@mihaifrincu3039 So the screen doesn't overheat or something? Because I read reviews about the screen getting too hot even without the hot air venting, it kinda troubles me.
Why do you think this is better than the Legion? I'm wondering if I should get a Legion 5 Pro or the M16.

I've got to say this is one of the most informative reviews I have watched on this laptop. I am purchasing a similar laptop with the 3050ti and 16gb RAM. Your discussion of the cpu made sense to a great degree and the info covering the amount a RAM that cpu can use was very useful. Thank you and well done! Liked and subscribed.

    Finanaly!
Nobody’s talking about i7 version of this laptop. Great job!
So as far as I understand you would suggest to buy i7 with 3070 instead of 3060?
    Thank you in advance!

      Any complaints about temperatures?
      Did you undervolt it?
I also consider 16gb or 32gb.. I’m planning to use it more for photo editing or play a bit with Davinci Resolve .. what do you think, i7 with 3060 and 16gb/ram will be enough?

@@aurimaspovilionis3304 No complaints about temps because the cooling system it really does it's job, this coming at package with some noise at high stress level.
No, I haven't made any undervolt.
I have the 16gb version and for me, is more than enough. I use it for gaming, from time to time (Civ 6, Humankind, Cities Skylines, ESO, etc), for 3D in Oil&Gas Industry software, etc... even running a game in the taskbar while working with bunch of programs opened and is still ok -> 70dec C CPU, 65dec C GPU, 3300 RPM fans and 36db noise level.

Got mine from best buy last week, its eaten up everything I have thrown at it from gaming to 3d modeling on fusion 360. Only had one hiccup where the fingerprint scanner stopped working for a few days but it started working when I powered it up today. Not sure what happened there.

@@HydraStar01 when gaming, YES but I don’t hear it through my headphones. Sorry I don’t have an actual Db reading but I don’t mind the sound. During regular web browsing the fans aren’t loud at all. When 3D modeling they stay between low and medium speed and you can barely hear them at medium speed. I only notice them at 5k+ RPM when I’m running GTA online after 20-30 mins. But my temps never go past 76°C because I use a laptop cooler. Without cooler I run at 80° steady.

@@portcityengineering Thanks for the reply! I'm going to order the RTX 3050 TI of this model and I was afraid the fan would be loud all the time during work. How about the heat blowing into the screen? Since the air vents are super close to the display, I'm afraid the heat wouls ruin the screen long term.

@@HydraStar01 Happy I can help, Great question! So I do have an IR temp gun and the lower part of the screen was at 115°F and upper part was 97°F-100°F I don’t see this being an issue. Also this is not the first computer using this design. If anything I think it helps dissipate heat over the whole system and also if you look closely there is fins that direct the heat left and right and upward not directly onto the screen. I would recommend to never run this with the screen closed because of hotspots on the keyboard and by the top vents by screen.

@@portcityengineering Do you know other people who have used it for a longer time? Like a year or so? I'm really afraid of it overheating and ruining the screen. I read some reviews about undervolting it so that it becomes cooler and about the screen itself being too hot to touch, even hotter than the venting heat.
I'm torn between this and the Legion 5 Pro, I heard it has a better cooling system, but the Legion is heavier and not as portable as this one.

What do you think of the 3050 Ti version? I only play certain/select or older games usually on computer - Desperados 3, Shadow Tactics, Hitman, Mafia, World of Tanks, etc. - so would you say the 3050 Ti version would be good for casual gaming? Are there any other issues with the 4 GB VRAM of the GPU?
