When he effortlessly turned something innocently happening behind him to his advantage, I thought to myself, "This guy is devastatingly cool, calm and genius." They all knew that Robert was far more skilled than they. They also knew that his smooth escape meant that their odds of survival plummeted at that point. His taunting smile, as he picked up the little one was GOLD. Great scene. Denzel is the best. 👏🏽
I'm kinda uncomfortable with parts of this scene. First of all, what became of Robert's SUV that he was in watching Dave take the trash cans to the curb? Secondly, I kinda thought it was odd that the remaining members of the "team" showed up at Dave's house. For their line of work, carpooling doesn't seem feasible. I'm also disturbed that Robert, knowingly, is going to kill the daddy of those little girls after playing "high five" with them.
@@johnp388 That wasn't Robert's SUV, that was the 3 guys Dave works with in that SUV. They were already outside watching Dave's house. McCall snuck past them and was at the back door.

Brilliant. He's going off with the leader's wife and kids, and yet he's delivering a deadly message: I WILL COME FOR YOU AND KILL YOU. Element of surprise GONE. And they know what they're up against. He's The Equalizer, and when he Equalizes you oh yeah you stay Equalized for eternity. Sorry about that, fellas!
One thing I really noticed in both parts of these great movies, was the way Denzel could deliver the killer lines......His eye contact alone would put me in hospital!
I like how when Pedro’s character gives him the speech about how vets like him and his team have no future after the service, Denzel is completely unfazed. He doesn’t care what they do, he realizes the harsh truth of it, the only thing he cared about is that who they killed turned out to be a friend
Lowkey the other guy is also spitting some facts, good and evil is a made up concept its all just choices. Not saying what he did was right or justified but neither is Denzel's killings, what gives him the right to play God, as much as anyone else. Even if his morale's falls in line with our beliefs, does that make it right? Idk its an interesting perspective. At least he has a code of honour he follows. Its only when it affects people close to him or people he see's as vulnerable that its an issue.
@@yeahyeah4433 it is indeed quite an interesting monologue, and as I said, at that moment it seemed like McCall didn’t care about the sole fact of Susan’s assassination, more so the fact that it was his friend they killed. I did enjoy that too. He knows this isn't a perfect world, he literally says it. These men fought with him in defense of their country... now they are just hired guns, which I imagine Denzel's character finds despicable... and yet the only sin he will kill them for is simple. "You killed my friend." Period.
@@yeahyeah4433 It's not an interesting perspective, it was him trying to justify all of the wrong shit he knew he was doing. But Denzel's character isn't trying to play god, he's not there because they're killing people, he's there because they killed his friend. That's it. His entire monologue about Good and Evil was him trying to justify what he did, to try and get out of the snake trap that he jumped right into by appealing to Denzels characters history hoping he'd see what he believed was reality. But the reality was that Denzel doesn't care much that they assassinated anyone, he cares that it was Susan, so now he's getting revenge.
@@AinokeatoProductions actually, while Dave is *absolutely* trying to absolve himself of guilt, he is simultaneously *completely* correct. It's one of the best things about the movie. Committing evil deeds isn't less evil if you drape the narrative in Stars and Stripes. That's a fiction people tell themselves. The blood and bodies are still there. And neither is Dave wrong to feel betrayed by his country for being hung out to dry after he dedicated his life to them. And there is a certain amount of hypocrisy on the part of Susan, who was the beneficiary of the work of Dave, and kept her cushy life and government pay check but let Dave hang after she used him. They are all evil people and none of them deserve to die less than the others. McCall does display a certain hypocrisy in assuming a righteous stance.
One thing I love about this movie is the foreshadowing through the weather. In the beginning of the movie we see the news and how a storm announcement was made. The more we follow the story the closer the actual storm gets. As we reach this scene, the storm takes physical form and eventually starts throw leafs around. For the story it meant that the real killers got uncovered and this is the last moment before the storm (the war between Denzels character and his old squad) will break loose and consume everything and everyone near it. I come back every couple of months just for this scene alone because I think the symbolism was so perfectly executed.
Damn. Ice cold, stating your intent to kill a man and then hopping in the car with the dudes family. Ultimate "what are you gonna do about it?" moment.

@DonFelixGallardo continuity matters and it shows that Pedro's character kept up his appearances on point. Deception like chocolate appears to be sweet, warm, charming to the tastebuds. Amazing scene. I love how McCall can push the pause button here on all the pain and rage he has towards his friends killers as he stands face to face with them. Tons of self control and focus. Full of confidence that they will, soon, be no more. He is savoring the anticipation when he can release his unbridled wrath because he knows he only gets to do it once. Pedro is such an incredibly gifted and skilled actor at the top of their Game, trade, Art. Oscar quality there. Not just for action film, but the layers of sophisticated subtlety he is capable to deliver and convey so movingly, to incarnate a beyond morally fallen guy in that mano-a-mano with someone as above good as Denzel... both sitting over that dining table, no more sleigh of hand tricks or smoke and mirrors, but truth skinned off any more pretenses left but dialogue bared raw, eye to eye, is of the best I have seen in a 100 films or more in the last decade.
Denzels delivery of his dialogues to avenge his friends death as a cold blooded assassin... Is the hallmark of a legend in acting.... His confidence in killing the enemy even struck fear in me.....and I'm just an audience
It's also such a genius way to extract himself from the situation without letting the guys attack him where they have the advantage. Dave won't attack the car with his wife and kids inside it. And notice how he doesn't turn his back until he picks up Dave's daughter? Because once he is holding her, they can't shoot at Robert. It shows planning, forethought, and just insane ruthlessness. I just LOVE such clever writing, and I will now have to watch this movie asap having never seen any of the Equalizer movies.

First Mac went to Dave's home, disarm Dave's Family with his humility and friendly demeanor, expose Dave being corrupt, met his now corrupt elite unit outside while continues to charm Dave's Family and sealed their fate by saying " See you at work." That's brutal and prophetic.
i like how dave looks around for a way to to kill him in silence, using whats on the desk perhaps a tactical pen, or heavy object, by then robert has got there first at the desk, dave looks at the glass cups as final choice to kill him but clearly understands that robert is aware of his hands and movement at all times and most critical, roberts understanding of his next move.

I never trusted any of them why. Because they can be bought and work for money. Me I'm more like Denzel I do what I do for free just because it's the right thing to do. And now you know.
This scene was well put together. The way the beginning almost makes you feel like Pedro Pascal was the one being targeted while his entire family is around, but then it ends up being him the villain the whole time.
The best, most efficient killer these men have ever known, possibly their own mentor, just told them he's going to kill them all. Luckily, they all wore their dark pants.
This is exactly why The Equalizer films aren't that good, the protagonist is basically infallible. These movies were much better in the early 2000s when they called Man On Fire.
what's especially great about this scene is that Dave isn't entirely wrong. is he the bad guy? of course, but when he says "Who said they were the enemy? Not us, not me." it's meaningful. that's the life that Denzel's character was trying to get away from. now they just happen to be on opposite sides of the same coin.

That also really struck me. I was in Recon in The Corps for 12 years and had been thru all the spec ops national training that the U.S. Military had to offer (including but not limited to explosives/demolition school, Scout sniper school, Combat Diver School, Jump School, Ranger School, HILO parachute certification, HIHO parachute certification, Spec Ops Driver's School and Clandestine Feild Ops signal processing training). I was recruited by the CIA near the end of my last enlistment contract and offered a six figure contract where to use their words, I would be an off the books asset. I talked to a couple Force Recon Marines that I knew who had contact with former Force Recon Marines that had taken similar jobs and what they did was pretty much mirrored in this movie. They got names on a piece of paper with an associated intel package and everything else was done independently. Real James Bond stuff. i found it very intriguing but after a decade of humping in the field in The Corps I was really ready for an Engineering career (My Dad was an Aerospace Engineer out at The Cape and I had scored a perfect 800 on the math portion of my SAT's and had been accepted at Georgia Tech before I decided to join The Corps), so I declined and was off to Engineering College as a civilain.
There were no implications that he would kill his family and being the kind of man he is that would never happen.I"d rather say he used them to get out of a tight spot
I think the purpose of this last scene with Denzel and Daves family is supposed to show the audience that Dave DOES in fact know right from wrong, he does have a conscience. Earlier in the kitchen Dave said there was no longer enemies just unfortunates (victims), there was no virtue, no sin, no right and wrong - which he knows is false based on his own opinions of being treated unfairly by the military (a form of victimization) and also suggesting he doesn't deserve to die for his sins (even though he kills people because of their sins). So just after Robert tells the men he is going to kill each of them, Daves daughter runs into Roberts arms and Robert drives off with Daves family. Robert is messing with Daves emotions by doing this because Robert knows Dave is self centered and only cares about how he feels, so this probably enraged Dave. Dave feels like crap because he knows it isn't right that Robert is about to unload the clip on all of them but is chillin with Daves family! Thats the point. Dave is a narcissist just like the other men. Their way of thinking makes absolutely no sense. They have no integrity or moral compass for the type of career their in where they represent "God and Country", as Dave said in the kitchen. They are psychotic and this movie showcases the mentality of many people in these types of organizations. Just my opinion!
" The mistake you made was that you killed my friend so I'm going to kill each and every one of you and the only disappointment in it for me is that I only get to do it once" Is my favourite quote in this movie
Let’s not forget the extremely fine actors playing this scene with Denzel. The guy who plays Dave is wonderful. I felt sorry for him and contempt at the same time. The scene between the two of them in the kitchen is golden, and it’s because of them both.
We all do, but if you put your trust in Jesus, and if you repent of your sins he'll save you and your punishment will go on him, and his righteousness will be given to you in Gods eyes!

Denzel Washington was attacked previously before this and he takes the phone from that killer. He tells to blue shirt guy that who ever trying to get them killed(their common friend was killed in Brussels and there was an attempt on him) called to that phone which Denzel brought and gave to the blue shirt guy. This is why I love movies because shit like this would only happen in a movie. 🤣🤣😂😂😂😅
You can tell that they were on his skill level by how carefully he moved around them...he walked backwards until he got the kid, basically never giving his back to them..he then chose his old house during the storm, so he'd have the advantage of perfectly knowing the location, and having their vision and hearing impaired by the storm..all to show that not even he could've taken them on in a normal situation.
He's not Jason Borne that's for sure, who can take out 5 assassins at once. Though his caution was just, they wouldn't have tried to kill him in front of the family, especially since they were ordered to be at ease.
@@Zephal42 yeah, I'm just saying that his body language and behaviour is completely different from when he was in the russian restaurant, for example..he was in a room with 8 guys but had no problem turning his back to them or letting them reach for weapons, and he fought them there, without preparation or any sort of advantages, because he was confident that his skills were much much more than anything those guys could've done to him...with the guys in his video though, who were his old team, he acts and moves much more carefully...and for one like him to be careful around them, you know they have to be very dangerous.
After he makes the threat, the guy up front with the leather jacket tries to look confident, but the other two look pretty worried. The guy in back was probably just repeating "f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck..." in his head the entire time, lmao. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal are phenomenal actors who did very well in this movie. Pedro Pascal's character, Dave York, says two things in the middle of the video that stick in my mind. A set of double-standardizing and self-contradictory statements. At4:22, he says, "Who said they were the enemy?" Not us. Not me. "We just followed orders." Granted, that is one thing, but what he says next is proof that he and those like him intentionally become part of the problem. He goes on to say at4:35, "There are no good and bad people, no enemies, just unfortunates." Of course, along with his mentor and fellow soldiers, he went through things that could be called justified and made him rightly angry. Yet he killed an innocent woman who was actually trying to do the right thing, and who knows what else he has done. Of course there are good and bad people. Those like Mr. York who deem innocent people as 'unfortunates' with a price tag are clearly evil. They are very thorough at spinning yarns to cover the brutal truth, believe in their self-righteous words and actions, and will not hesitate to kill anyone who gets in their way.
Denzel Washington is truly a master at his craft. Both of the actors were great in this clip and the icing on the cake at the end when he says see you at work knowing he's gonna kill them.❤

He probably knew their routine down to a T. So when the wife leaves the house everyday with the kids...

Honestly, I went into watching these movies as some mindless Hollywood action, but they got depth

Very Nice.
For sure it gives the conversation more depth. Brilliant.

I didn't see it myself, I can see how most people could see it that way.
" The mistake you made was that you killed my friend so I'm going to kill each and every one of you and the only disappointment in it for me is that I only get to do it once"
Is my favourite quote in this movie
Let’s not forget the extremely fine actors playing this scene with Denzel. The guy who plays Dave is wonderful. I felt sorry for him and contempt at the same time. The scene between the two of them in the kitchen is golden, and it’s because of them both.

Such a great actor AND human being. The fact that he is so open about his faith in God is just incredible. He's def not "hollywood" in the sense of the word. God Bless him!
I don’t know why but Equalizer has to be one of the best movie I ever saw in my entire life of all good movies. This guy is such an incredible actor and the moment I saw a clip of Equalizer part 1 on TH-cam I was immediately hooked. This guy is such an amazing actor I just never thought something would be this good until I saw it with my own eyes. Incredible simply incredible that words just can’t describe.
" the only mistake you did was to kill my friend.........love that part
"See ya at work!"
This has got to be my new favorite Denzel quote.
They all looked like they know the only chance to kill him was in front of them but it slipped away.
They knew they had a high chance of not getting back from work
they probably should have killed him anyway in front of the wife and kids (ie the wife and kids being traumatized is not worth mcCall killing all of them)
That is 100% percent wrong ! They NEVER had a chance to kill him there. Mac was there to confirm that they murdered his Friend Susan. After confirming that he told him that it was a sin that he couldn't forgive. The awesome part of this scene is that Mac is the Best one out of all of them. A master Killer amongst killers and they know that he is as dangerous as poison because they worked with him for years on the same team. He says I see You at work meaning he will handle it with them. Totally professional and to the point. Amateurs would attack him there in front of the family house with all to see, they are all professionals and they didnt nothing. Thats how the scene went and it was very well acted.

If you haven't seen this film yet, please watch. The climax was worth it. That is some brilliant screenplay and the environmental backdrop it has, made me go ooh man... Very good CGI work too to make it look very convincing.
I don't understand the phone thing in the start, can you explain
Denzel Washington was attacked previously before this and he takes the phone from that killer. He tells to blue shirt guy that who ever trying to get them killed(their common friend was killed in Brussels and there was an attempt on him) called to that phone which Denzel brought and gave to the blue shirt guy.
When Denzel calls to the number in that phone, it goes to our blue shirt guy. So our blue shirt guy is the one who wanted Denzel killed because our blue shirt guy killed their common friend and given the set of skills Denzel has in this movie, he feared Denzel will find out.
@@salakulo5426 hope it cleared your doubt now.
“See help & company.” I swear only Denzel could pull off such a stunt; using someone’s wife as a way to escape. It’s clear to see he basically charmed his wife, broke the ice with her, made her feel special and that’s why he knew he had the perfect getaway plan. This is why I love movies because shit like this would only happen in a movie. 🤣🤣😂😂😂😅
OMG I didn't realize till I read your comment that he used her to get away 😂 genius!!!
I actually love this part of the movie. Seems so natural and has no antics. I am always a big fan of Denzel.
Ditto!😁❤
That "finger-guns" moment was fucking gold. LOL One of the top 3 most tense moments in such a movie, ever.
I agree. It’s comical, but at the same time, maniacal.
My favorite part
We're all here praising an overall popular and well-liked movie, and yet somehow this film is still underrated. All three of them are great.
The irony of him making the finger gun gesture at them, and him not actually killing any of them with a gun
he literaly killed one of them using a bag of flour😂😂😂
You can tell that they were on his skill level by how carefully he moved around them...he walked backwards until he got the kid, basically never giving his back to them..he then chose his old house during the storm, so he'd have the advantage of perfectly knowing the location, and having their vision and hearing impaired by the storm..all to show that not even he could've taken them on in a normal situation.
He's not Jason Borne that's for sure, who can take out 5 assassins at once. Though his caution was just, they wouldn't have tried to kill him in front of the family, especially since they were ordered to be at ease.
You're reading too much into the scene.
@@Zephal42 only difference is this is more realistic if a situation. Bourne is for effect. These two movies are far more superior
he definitely picks up the kid as insurance
amazing detail, Denzel knows how to elevate action/suspense
Absolutely mind-boggling....Denzel flat out KILLS it here....
Very under rated movie. Great dialogue.
The acting from everybody when he said "see you at work". Holy crap lol.
That was not only great it was hilarious at the same time.
I love his little finger guns that he does. That whole sequence is the ultimate power move.
"See you at WORK. " That was the most gangsta statement in the entire movie.
He goes on to say at4:35, "There are no good and bad people, no enemies, just unfortunates."
Of course, along with his mentor and fellow soldiers, he went through things that could be called justified and made him rightly angry.
Both of the actors were great in this clip and the icing on the cake at the end when he says see you at work knowing he's gonna kill them.❤
“The mistake you made was you killed my friend”
I really appreciate that because I’m sure that’s how a lot of us would react. I don’t do stupid shit in my life, but if someone harmed someone that meant that much to me…now we gotta go.
No you wouldn't.
@@TyFhoonBoom like he said, it's a stupid thing to do morally and realistically. I doubt our friend here has the skill set to actually pull it off😂 but if it's someone we care about like family(Denzel's charsct sees his friends as one) even I would probably do something stupid, nothing cool or like that but losing someone so important causes even the best of us to be irrational
Honestly, boo-hoo for Denzil, this was the dumbest plot ever... He was literally a ruthless mercenary just like them, but awe muffin they killed his friend and they all deserve to die now? Wow, at least he pretends like he thinks he deserves to die as well, yet he doesn't just jump off a bridge.

The look in the squad faces after McCall says "see you at work" is priceless: They know who Robert is and what he's capable of, and if he swears he's going to kill you, sure thing he will.
They knew their lives were about to end soon.
Denzel is the hero of the movie but anyone that has served or has loved anyone that has served and gone to war (not just sat on their ass on a base or a ship hundreds of miles away) knows that Pedro Pascal's character has an extremely good point during his speech justifying why he turned. Powerful stuff all around.
Not to mention Denzel was the leader and he ditched his men as well.
The entire outcome of this film was Denzels fault.
@@stephenwebster9875 still not the point though, even as killers it shows that Denzel was the only true asset for them(government). It wasn't anyone fault or the reason for them to what they are now as Denzel's character says, he doesn't care, what he does care about is that again they killed his friend. It's simple, no philosophical bullsht. You killed my friend, I kill you...to someone he saw as friends and family. I mean they're hired killers who are near getting caught, I can see their fears but I'm sure there were other ways to go about it If they really wanted to.
Agreed
I was just commenting about that.. I was in the Marines was deployed 3 times, and I did not ReEnlist mostly cause I came to realization of Pedro was saying
@@stephenwebster9875 I mean, he has his own life to live just like his men. Faking his death was the only way he could get away from it all. Pedro's character still chose to kill his friend, which he didn't have to do. His whole reason for why he turned was just an excuse and Robert looked right through his azz.
Denzel is one of the best actors ever. This role is just another piece of art.
