No name, no fight, no threat; pretty much was built up only to be eliminated in insignificance. When the boy had bad punctuation, incorrect grammar, Mr Anderson showed him compassion and love. It was a miracle. One week later, two other random commentors broke into a correcting session and destroyed the work this good man had done. So I'll start this off by saying I love Denzal. He is just an awesome generational actor and is a master of his craft. But We have to give Marton Csokas his due. This was an amazing performance by him and this scene is just awesome how desolate he looks. Amazing job by both actors.
"What do you see when you look at me?" WOW! Denzel nailed the 'look'. His eyes. No emotion. No humanity. They're just eyes. That 'look' that will make your blood run cold. I've seen that in Spec Ops guys. Not a glare you would ever want directed towards you.
Was flirting with some old dudes date/escort in Vegas. I look up a bit and there are two huge guys behind him and they gave me those eyes. I smiled, nodded my head and got the hell out of there! Lesson number 452!
I would watch this film over and over for this scene alone. The acting, the ambience, the subtleties. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the script and anchoring point.
When I look at him, I see someone who could not care less. When I look at Denzel, I see determination. One is going in a direction, the other is floating in the wind.
5:22 Notice that twitch on the left side of his lip, this shows his sudden shock or the unexpected statement from McCall which caught him off guard and he's now really scared but tries to hide the best he can and in doing so it comes out as a twitch or a strain in the muscle, this also shows how good of an actor Csokas(Nikolai) really is!
No not scared. A man like that doesn't scare just from words. He's seen the same things The Mccall character has seen if not worse because he continued to thrive in that dark world that Mccall left behind. It was recognition that he underestimated Mccall and now he fully realizes who he's dealing with and he will now deal with threat accordingly. Teddy is a psychopath who has seen and done a lot of evil and violence. That kind of person does not scare from words or a look. Its recognition of a worthy adversary.
"Sometimes the answer is right in front of you." He said it while he looks him right in the eye. This is the best line of the entire scene, and there is no debate on it. I've polled 100 people, and 97 agreed with my assessment.
This was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Good superhero movie. I love how the scenes slow down to emphasize how a seasoned train killer, assassin, is calculating every move in milliseconds that he plans to use. One of my favorite lines, " I promised someone that I had love a long time ago that I will not go back to that person that used to be, but for you...I will make that exception."
Lots of, admittedly well deserved praise for Denzel in this scene. However Marton Csokas is superb here. One of the most cold eyed psychotic villains I’ve ever seen..in any movie .
Not to many actors can hold their own in a scene with Denzel but Martin Csokas is one of them. I love how the smug smirk look on his face fades ever so slightly , almost imperceptibly when McCall asks him what he sees when he looks at him. Probably the first time in his adult life that he hasn’t been in total control of a situation.
When a guy takes out your hitman, brings back his glasses and says he is not coming back. At that point you gotta realize this guy is a major problem that you should leave alone lol.
Nickolai said "thank you" to denzels offer just to show how casual this is for him but danzels rapid "welcome" showed how casual is this for him to give someone a chance then they don't avail it and die...
I first saw Denzel Washington in "Glory". He owned that movie from start to finish; other fine actors did the movie justice but Denzel was the center of it. Looks as though not much has changed; if anything he only got much, much better at what he does.
@@andrewlocke3389 - Agree! My fav scene is where the men gathered around the fire, singing, at night before battle. D's character finally dropped the angry, tough guy act and became just like them: vulnerable, scared; knowing their death was eventual.
Chilling scene. The best part, is the absurdity of the "Thank you", and "You're welcome", they exchange. McCall has just laid out, his preparedness to him, by answering his question in full, without actually answering it. McCall offering him an opportunity to do the right thing, is just to fulfill his need to make the offer. They cement it though, with the exchange, both knowing, one of them is going to die, and that's what they're really accepting. Brilliant scene, in every way.

No name, no fight, no threat; pretty much was built up only to be eliminated in insignificance. And I love that subtlety, especially when Teddy immediately tries to segue that into trying to call McCall nothing to him.
''My men will find him''
Literally dies seconds later and ''will not be coming back'' 😂
Martin Csokas was amazing in the role of Nikolai. A brutal thug with no conscience, just following orders, doing what comes naturally. He’s a really good actor.
Well he's a psychopath.
He was a scary dude in this movie. The actor did a great job
I do agree on your perception, but the government train Denzel to be an assassin at the top level they don't choose lightly precision is the key that's why he times itself the outcome will always be the same his Nemesis will lose.
Csokas displayed controlled thuggery. Quintessential villain.
Who? That's Kevin Spacey
They both absolutely killed their roles. Great movie 10/10
Denzel is wonderful, but so is Nicholas, the murderous calmness, and the facial expressions are perfect.
The hero meeting the villain in a civil discourse is always the best part of all movies and shows
Reminds me of Heat
@@raymason9907 one of my favourite scenes of all time
This is so incredibly good. One of the most intensive scenes I've seen.
You should check out sacario dinner scene
The word you want is "intense." Look it up. Buy a dictionary first.
@@mja91352 don’t be a dick.
@@mja91352 The word you're looking for is weak. Because only tiny-minded weakness comes from petty insults. You can do better than that.
@@mja91352 There was a youtube commentor. Young boy. Couldn't spell correctly. Beaten up by the system, stop me if you've heard this one before. He was illiterate and yet a good man, Mr Anderson, took him in. When the boy made typos, this Micheal Anderson showed understanding and patience. When the boy had bad punctuation, incorrect grammar, Mr Anderson showed him compassion and love. It was a miracle. One week later, two other random commentors broke into a correcting session and destroyed the work this good man had done. Some small snarky comebacks were thrown by them, the type children might use.
I think these two were friends of the boy. they were scared that one day, Mr Anderson, this good man might wake up and see that the young boy would always make typos and throw him away like a piece of lint or a bottlecap.
So they decided not to find out.
What do you two think Devon and Mark Lastes?
I love how Denzel took this thug's operation apart just as he promised, "brick by brick, dollar by dollar, body by body".
The director , scriptwriter, and these 2 gems of actors make my day of the years on earth. Bless them all for the art of acting and expressions. I’ve run out of superlatives.
Scenes like these in The Equalizer never disappoint. Bob knew Teddy surprisingly well lol
Him "My men will find him."
Denzel "His not coming back."
Two true professionals making a conversation about what is at hand.. amazing acting
So I'll start this off by saying I love Denzal. He is just an awesome generational actor and is a master of his craft. But We have to give Marton Csokas his due. This was an amazing performance by him and this scene is just awesome how desolate he looks. Amazing job by both actors.
It’s Denzel
@@markfranklin9450 thanks bro. That was a typo.
This has _GOT_ to be, one of THE BEST scenes of all time !
Such an underrated film!
Agreed😎👍
"When you pray for the rain, you got to deal with the mud."
Savage!
The stare of the psychopath. Nothing behind those eyes.
@@Idcanymore510 Not a psychopath. More of a cold and mechanical stare.
The look of a shark microseconds before the attack.
Teddy (Marton Csokas) is one of the most cold blooded villains in the movies. He absolutely oozes 'Psycho'
probably not like Javier Bardem's character in that crazy movie...that guy was vicious..
@@jamesgibson3716 to be honest I don't think there's much between them. 😁
Chills every time...I have watched this clip over and over.
Yep, best actor in history. Never saw a bad acting job from this gem!!
Nice opinion.
Denzel is possibly the best actor I’ve ever seen! And one of the best lecturers of all time!
"What do you see when you look at me"?
Absolute gold ✨
I would watch this film over and over for this scene alone. The acting, the ambience, the subtleties. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the script and anchoring point.
Both of them did justice to the scene. powerful acting. Brilliantly executed.
This movie is solid gold. Every scene, every action. Brilliance
Denzel is brilliant, can't get over how talented the man is!!
When I look at him, I see someone who could not care less.
When I look at Denzel, I see determination.
One is going in a direction, the other is floating in the wind.
One of my favorite says: “When you pray for rain you gotta deal with the mud too.” Perfection.
Really scared or underestimated McCall's ability to kill without a second thought?
No not scared. A man like that doesn't scare just from words. He's seen the same things The Mccall character has seen if not worse because he continued to thrive in that dark world that Mccall left behind. It was recognition that he underestimated Mccall and now he fully realizes who he's dealing with and he will now deal with threat accordingly. Teddy is a psychopath who has seen and done a lot of evil and violence. That kind of person does not scare from words or a look. Its recognition of a worthy adversary.
I think the twitch is too slow. It doesn't look like a nervous twitch. Nervous ones keep swinging.
@@fitzgeraldanthony9333 sociopath, not psychopath.
Denzel Washington, what an incredible actor! His performance in Glory is absolutely perfect too!
Two superb actors, with good writing, can make any scene riveting!
"What do you see when you look at me?"...In that moment the other guy who has no feelings suddenly felt a cold chill up his spine.
"Sometimes the answer is right in front of you."
He said it while he looks him right in the eye. This is the best line of the entire scene, and there is no debate on it. I've polled 100 people, and 97 agreed with my assessment.
I love this scene so much. It's actually my favorite part of the entire movie.
This was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Good superhero movie. I love how the scenes slow down to emphasize how a seasoned train killer, assassin, is calculating every move in milliseconds that he plans to use. He is even making a game of it by setting a timer and seeing if he meets the time he predicts. Pretty cool.
That was a legendary lecture by Denzel.
Has Denzel ever been in a bad movie? King of Cool!
The dude who Nikolai was great. His acting is definitely top tier along with Denzel.
Sometimes the answer is right in front of you. Love it when Denzel drop the glasses in the wine glass and walks away.
When a guy takes out your hitman, brings back his glasses and says he is not coming back. At that point you gotta realize this guy is a major problem that you should leave alone lol.
Especially since it took seconds after he left lol
Right lol just let it go
Exactly. Boss it’s time to shut down this operation!
If your hitters are dying left and right…you might have a problem lol. To pursue it is 💀
Glad I’m not him.
Best dialogues ever I seen in any movie … best written script .. love you guys … desperately waiting for Equalizer 3
Nice opinion. I can name a few other movies and scenes
As soon as Nikolai’s smile was going away my man Denzel said “I made my point” and got up. just terrifying
I love how Denzel didn’t catch the 1st paper grab @ 4:46 but still so organically caught at the 2nd grab 😎
These two have great chemistry and should have had more screen time together
Nickolai said "thank you" to denzels offer just to show how casual this is for him but danzels rapid "welcome" showed how casual is this for him to give someone a chance then they don't avail it and die...
Great acting, this is when you look into the eyes of someone even more dark and dangerous
I first saw Denzel Washington in "Glory". He owned that movie from start to finish; other fine actors did the movie justice but Denzel was the center of it. Looks as though not much has changed; if anything he only got much, much better at what he does.
That scene where his character is getting lashed....he doesn't say a work but he speaks volumes.
@@andrewlocke3389 - Agree! My fav scene is where the men gathered around the fire, singing, at night before battle. D's character finally dropped the angry, tough guy act and became just like them: vulnerable, scared; knowing their death was eventual.
@@ShelleyMagner absolutely! That scene was another powerful scene in a movie replete with them. It still brings tears to my eyes.
That's my favorite part sarcasm deserves more sarcasm lmao
This is my favorite Equalizer.
Notice how he is holding back tears after Denzel leaves
My God Denzel is a good actor .. 👏
Denzel is just the GOAT
We know how magnificent the great Denzel is and was in that clip!!! So I'd like to point out how insanely good the man who played the Russian in that clip was to!!! What a movie scene WOW!!!!!
At....."Whatta' you see when you look at me?".....the ALMOST imperceptible drop of Nikolai's face. Recognition. Excellent.
Denzel: what do you see when you look at me?
Russian dude: smirk leaves his face. 😂
Denzel makes you forget it is all make believe. For a moment there, I was about to run out the restaurant before things go left.
"He's not coming back."
_You have my attention_
This never gets old.
Watching this scene over and over again just doesn't get boring at all!
