The warmth and romance of Tony singing any song is priceless. I am now 80 years old and I always return to Tony for the best of the best in any era. God Bless him.
1000%!! Just played it for my 90 yr old mom (with dementia) and she was overwhelmed with emotion~ got very teary but absolutely loved it!! She was a professional pianist and was able to tell me afterwards, "Piano. Perfect!."!! RIP Mr. Bennett~ and Thank You for the many decades of music you graced us with ❤❤❤😇
Even in the late stages of his career, Tony Bennett loved the lyrics and sang them like he meant them. The timing and delivery here are exceptional with the beautifully minimal accompaniment of Charlap.
Love how Bill Charlap is looking at the way Mr Bennett was looking that night, but that’s the thing, his presence was so pure, everyone respected his presence which is clearly visible by Mr Charlap’s reaction to hun RIP Sir, You Were A Polished Diamond In A Sea Of Coal
Mr. Smooth! So many years of musical pleasure ! You’re missed greatly Mr. Bennett. The last of the great crooners! And a WWII veteran, Infantryman PFC Anthony Dominic Benedetto was awarded a Bronze Star. Thank you for your service and glad you returned safely and brought your wonderful voice to the masses!
May Your Memory Be a Blessing Upon Us All... Your Music will Live On Eternally and Future Generations will See and Know that Beauty that You have Been Bringing To Your Audiences for Decades. 😎✌️🌹❣️
Bill Charlap has been the most perfect accompaniast. Good to read that Tony has retired from touring and toxic smoke filled clubs. At 95 it certainly's long past time to hang it up. What a great American singer!
Uncle Tony, you're a National Treasure!! I've been so happy to introduce my eight year old granddaughter to your music! As for Bill Charlap, the best thing about an accompanist is knowing when not to play over a singer, and he is absolutely perfection!!
Saw him in Buffalo recently. He's ninety and simply superb. As the story goes, when asked how it feels to be the greatest singer in the world, Frank replied, "Go ask Tony." Thank you Mr. Bennett for the hours and years of joy you have given us.
Dear Mr. Bennet, I've been listening to you for decades. Thank you for keeping on. You are one of the worlds great talents. I will remember you for as long as I live, and the world will remember you forever.
😥It’s so hard to believe that this perfect beautiful voice of caramel velvet is now forever silenced. R.I.P Tony. Nobody could sing a song like you. The angels have a new star singer in their choir now. ❤️🌹
The definitive version he had already recorded of this song. But it is Tony, and each great song will always stand in a new, live in studio recorded, worthy interpretation. Just voice and piano, like in his highlight records with Bill Evans : brave, pure and a treat for those who love the essence of music ! Sure, Tony is an old man, but his craftsmanship remains, his diction is chrystal clear, he lives each word, line and note, his phrasing is original, he hits the notes, and he doesn't cover his face with his microphone, simply because he has the voice and technique not to need so. What a singer ...
In this performance, Tony Bennett is 89 years old and married to Susan Crow, who was 49 years of age at the time. Much of Tony's wondewrful enthusiasm for life and drive in his singing in these golden years of him must be attributed to her, don't you think so?
Rest in Peace Tony! This song was played at our wedding as our first dance as husband and wife. It will always remain special to us. Thank you for your wonderful gift of music, Tony!
His voice is forever beautiful! He's been one of my favorite performers since I was a little girl and I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show. This is for his biggest fan Margaret C who passed away this weekend at the age of 94. A beautiful lady whose eyes would light up when she heard Tony Bennett sing. I don't think I will ever be able to listen to him sing now without crying.
Lovely performance. I also have to admit that I am just ticked with his tie. It's not often we get to see his loves of art and music together, but that's Van Gogh!
I ran into this video a couple weeks ago for the first time. This is a wonderful rendition by these two musical virtuosos! Then a couple days ago I ran into the movie “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and decided to watch it again. And there, in the middle of the movie, I had forgotten that Dermot Mulroney sang this song to Julia Roberts as they slowly danced. “Why does this song sound familiar?” I thought. Then it dawned on me-Tony Bennett!! Well, I had to come back and listen to Tony sing it again. Good grief…the tears are rolling down my face and my nose is running something awful! Two sentimental memories are now blended and locked in my mind. Music is a lovely thing…❤😊❤
This is making me cry. My Mother OBM loved Tony Bennett. My Father too k her to see him In the 1970’s for her birthday. Tony Bennett gave my Mother a birthday kiss. She was in another world when she returned home. I love Tony Bennett too. How could one not.
This song and particularly this version of the song makes me think of a girl I knew 30 years ago who I just met again. At our our wedding we will dance to this song!
I really have respect for you Tony Bennett, becuz you gave credit to Mildred Bailey who is part Native American indian, and said she influence you so much, that you wanted to sing songs like her. Thank you for saying that, becuz i am Native American Indian too, alot of people don't know how many Native American Indians influence the MUSIC INDUSTRY like Blues, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal.
Someday when I'm awfully low When the world is cold I will feel a glow just thinking of you And the way you look tonight Oh, but your lovely With your smile so warm and your cheek so soft There is nothing for me, but to love you Just the way you look tonight With each word your tenderness grows Tearing my fear apart And that laugh, that wrinkles your nose It touches my foolish heart Lovely, never never change Keep that breathless charm Won't you please arrange it because I, I love you? Just the way you look tonight Just the way you look tonight
Charlap's beyond supportive and tasteful. That's a whole studio orchestra arrangement under his hands. A master class.
The warmth and romance of Tony singing any song is priceless. I am now 80 years old and I always return to Tony for the best of the best in any era. God Bless him.
RIP Tony Bennett 7/22/23
I love his work with Ralph Sharon and Bill Charlap -- even at his advanced age here. And of course the iconic lps he did with Bill Evans. Wonderful.
Miss him so much already...
Are you still there Jubie?
@@laurenlee6801 I was wondering this as well.
Thank you Tony for all the years of being such a wonderful singer and person.
We will miss you with smiles, and with nose wrinkling laughs!
😢😢😢😢😢

We lost one of the greatest singers today. His timeless singing will live on for decades.
Bill Charlap played the perfect accompaniment and harmonic colors for this performance. It really brings out the best in Tony's emotion and phrasing.
Agree. Amazing!

Rest in Peace Sir. Tony Bennett. Your voice, your music is irreplaceable.
The last emperor, an American icon, Mr. Tony Bennett.
Bill Charlap so delicate in his accompaniment. So classy.
What a treasure! At age 89, the man can still interpret a great song in his own special way. Never retire, Tony. You're a real inspiration.
The only thing left to say is "Thank you, Mr. Bennett" ...
Yes, What a talented Gentleman ❤

The fact that that these songs are from his best friend, and him doing covers, is very heartwarming, Frank and Tony really had a great friendship

Tony Bennett (1926-2023) - the last of the great non-rock American pop singers. RIP
Uncle Tony, you're a National Treasure!! I've been so happy to introduce my eight year old granddaughter to your music! As for Bill Charlap, the best thing about an accompanist is knowing when not to play over a singer, and he is absolutely perfection!!

It sure is. But he still has a good schlock of hair as well, where even young men would be jealous of.
