I get so tired of the medical community saying things like.."At your age..." I have a friend told that a surgeon didn't want to repair her ankle but wanted to fuse the bones...at her age...63. He was probably that age himself. Her ankle was repaired & 2 years later she's still doing great!

Agreed. Ortho said they could operated but gave me the best advice ever. Ice. I played defense in football when I was younger. Picked up some knee issues. Add to that a family history of knee problems. At one stage I’d had about 2 years of constant pain. Till I spoke to an Ortho (out of the office) after he first asked my professional advice at a social event. Fair game yes? He recommended ice for 20 minutes plus and repeating that every few hours. Did that and some exercise similar to this one and my pain vanished. Hike mountains again. There is good science behind ice treatment and strengthening exercises. It’s about management. If I get a twinge the ice pack comes out. Elastic knee braces are also good for prevention when I hike. Again there is science on this. Not all doctors suck but it is sometimes hard to get enough of their time to go work a good management plan. Meanwhile you can do your own research.

I am 62. I had a series of trip/ falls when walking and decided to make a conscious effort to strengthen my legs from tip to toes. I do a series of stretches every morning similar to this, plus weight bearing exercises for both upper and lower body every day. I am fitter now than I was 15 years ago. And pain free.
There is no short cut to staying healthy. I was reminded that health takes effort and effort brings reward.

Yup, and you also can get a tib bar to increase resistance in a pretty comfortable way. Personally even with shoes on, doing the wall approach can be uncomfortable for my heels after a while. I actually ended up getting the Solo Tib Bar from "tib bar guy". That one you can put on one foot at a time and load with either olympic weights or attach to a dumbbell. I liked it since it let me do other exercises that often get missed out on, like knee raises for strengthening the hip flexors, and hamstring curls (either standing or on your stomach). Hamstring is important for knees as well.
Oh and one thing the knees over toes guy espouses that I really like is backward walking (eventually working up to pulling a sled). It is very gentle and works out a lot of the stuff involved with your knees. Also recommend his Knee Ability Zero book is pretty cheap to buy.

Its too common that when people of certain age complain about knee pain the doctors suggest the only solution that is 'knee replacement'.
To make your knees better and avoid knee replacement at any cost do this exercise.
Or sit on a chair, keep your *back straight* then lift your legs with feet slightly stretched towards the body and knees touching.
Removing the unhealthy body part is not the solution.

im 26 and had reconstruction surgery last year due to dislocation because the doctor told me there's no other way to fix my weakened ligaments and that if i didnt fix it now i would have to undergo knee replacement few years down the line... now i kinda feel like i rushed my decision to get the surgery because not only i am suffering knee pain (since post surgery to this day) but im also coming across many videos on youtube talking about regrowing your ligaments without surgery... i trusted that doc because he's like one of the best orthopedic in japan, now i know surgery itself won't fix joint issues.

It happens when providing affordable medical care becomes a business😥...
I don't want to say much, but remember I can at least understand the problems you go through(if not feel it)
Even I have some knee problems.
India a land of auyrved is overtaken by the "modern medical science". But still there are lot of doctors working to provide cheap, effective medical treatment.
Hope you won't mind, this suggestion.
There is a doctor in India Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhary who is a cofounder of a hospital 'HIIMS' where they do treatments of all sort of diseases which integrate Ayurved, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Allopathy as well.
Just try to know about them, if possible just have consultation with them online(In India their online consultation fees is just 500 Rupees). Then later after doing your analysis decide what you want to do, or suggest someone else who might need that.
They guarantee to reverse Diabetes, free people from dialysis, even cancer.
You may not even have to visit them, purchase expensive medicines etc. Just certain things/therapy that you can do on your own.
      Take Care.

      Which exercises, please?

    • @themadhousediaries
      @themadhousediaries 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@moony77very simple exercise my orthopaedic told me. Sit in a chair with the right posture. And make sure the knees and torso are on the same level. Comfortable and relaxed normal sitting position with feet on ground making 90degree angle. Then lift one leg at a time making 180 degree angle. (just like you would kick someone while sitting but not with the kicking force) so lift one leg at a time making 180 degree and then do the same with the other leg. It's very easy and one can do it anywhere. It strengthens the muscles around the knee area and above the knee area that holds the area with miniscus I think. But it worked wonders for me. I hope I've explained it right. You just have to sit somewhere with right posture. Hands on needs and legs making 90degree. The normal sitting posture. From there you just have to lift one leg at a time making a 180 degree angle without moving your knees or thighs. And then gently put the foot back and do it with the other leg. WESHAPE if you understand this please do a video on this one too

I did the exercises sitting in a chair and laying down in bed but I can see where doing it against a wall would be more helpful. I will start adding that variation as well.
