STOP!!! READ THIS!! Apparently, the electrical connector for the fan clutch on these Trailblazers is extremely sensitive. I worked on trying to loosen the fan from the pulley for two hours last night and am about to just send this pile of crap to the junk yard being this is the 4th water pump in 4 years! I should have made this tool after the first water pump! Cuz I tried several other ways and the fact this is the 4th water pump the bolts on the pulley shroud are rounding off more each time…so sick of these junk vehicles..even when they were new they had so many problems…im curious how many water pumps this thing has had since new…it’s ridiculous these car manufacturers aren’t even worried about quality anymore! I don't believe that the TB/Envoy's have a drain valve in the radiator either so you have to pull the lower hose or use some extraction method. Thanks for the video, that is an interesting design in that clutch being electro-viscous and I believe they are somewhat failure prone. Also, best outro ever with the 'vette peeling away from the fiat challenger!!
Eric, you are correct about the absence of a drain valve. One thing I learned after making the video is you can also remove the upper radiator brace to be able to move the radiator towards the front of the car a little. I'm not sure, I haven't done that on my truck. I think you would have to wire in another relay for the efans
Pcm of NC has want you want.. I want to do the same. They program your computer so you. Won't get the code. Yli believe you have to get some 90's camaro/firebird electric fans. They fit in our cars perfect from what I've read... They have a whole kit available on their website. I might buy their kit the next time I pass by their place. I live in Miami but travel to NC every week.
For you*
Hi dear,, I have problem with my Envoy 2005 temp coming high I go workshop,, water pump and fan working very well,, I changed also reditor cup ,, temp coming down when I drive The car when stop it coming high again ,, there is sounds of pressure coming out.. plz need your help,,
Perhaps the thermostat is sticking.
I had this problem fan isn't working 100% time to change it.
I'm glad my 08 Trailblazer doesn't have that goofy Electronic fan clutch.
👍
I just spent $202.99 on a fan clutch at Auto Zone for my '06 Buick Rainier!
I took that thing back to the store today. Amazon prices are way better!
How is your amazon clutch holding up? I'm about to order one now wanted to see if it's a good part
You make it a point to correct yourself by saying there's only (2) 10mm top shroud bolts. But how bout the bottom, is it still 2 more 10 mm bolts or slide tabs?
There are hard lines on the side of the shroud you'll need to pop out and slide tabs at the bottom.
Don’t do this short cut! Risk damaging the condenser isn’t worth the short cut!
does it sound like jet engine when you drive it?
Its not too loud
Mine does
Hey I have a 2002 Chevy trailblazer 4.2 and it sticks idle it's like it don't want to drop Rpm so I was told clutch fan. Its wearing my breaks down What do u think bub
@@jeffreysnoddy3947 What do you mean it sticks idle? I don't think the fan clutch would have anything to do with the brakes.
Jeffrey Snoddy I have a 2003 and the clutch fan was bad, sounded like a plane taking off, but I had no issues with the idle, there is probably a sensor that controls that, no codes?
Slide a sheet of cardboard in front of the radiator to protect the cooling fins.
👍
fan clutch still working?
@@nathanrobichaud5902 Sure is 👍
@@KevinNadeau dope i have to replace mine on my 04 XUV
@@nathanrobichaud5902 should be an easy fix. Hope the video is helpful
@@KevinNadeau I’m gonna guess you’re almost at 400k miles now?
@@KevinNadeau video was very helpful. I’ll find out for sure tomorrow after work when I attempt it
Thanks Kevin great help.
You're welcome!
My fan speed is really high any suggestions on that?
Is there any way you can do from under the truck
I worked on trying to loosen the fan from the pulley for two hours last night and am about to just send this pile of crap to the junk yard being this is the 4th water pump in 4 years! I should have made this tool after the first water pump! Cuz I tried several other ways and the fact this is the 4th water pump the bolts on the pulley shroud are rounding off more each time…so sick of these junk vehicles..even when they were new they had so many problems…im curious how many water pumps this thing has had since new…it’s ridiculous these car manufacturers aren’t even worried about quality anymore! I had a dodge stratus with the condemned 2.7l v6 in it that I had almost no issues with for the 100,000 miles I had it! And it’s demonized for the internal water pump issue !! Come on Chevy! Quit making pos vehicles that break down on the show room floor! I’m getting rid of this pos and buying another dodge! I can work on them!
Lot of pumps r backerd threads I got a04 GMC missed with it 2 hrs with 1in crescent an 6ft cheater pipe I new I was just fixen to break something the motherfu_ _ ant backwards threads I use a pipe wrench turn it side ways on water pump pulley Thay can be a real bitc_
What size was that adjustable wrench
It was a 12-in Craftsman that opens to about 1-3/8 or 1-1/2 inches.
@@KevinNadeau thank you
What other kinds of noises was anyone here getting? My trailblazer has a metal ticking noise like (tink tink tink) that goes constantly. Anyone have similar issue or what it could be?
My fan clutch isn’t tightening idk what to do
Sounds like the threads might be stripped?
from what i read the fan should spin freely two revolutions' , and when you stop motor keep spinning a little, if its working proper
How did the fan clutch hold up?
So far it's still holding up.
Wow nice bro
Thanks, I appreciate it👍
I tries it and couldn't get enough distance and ended up cutting the shroud !
Mine don't has wired, it runs with engine is on. Why ?
You must have a thermal clutch versus mine which is an electro viscous clutch. Later models had the thermal clutcg
Anybody have some reviews of the AA clutch from amazon?? About to buy but want some honest reviews, can't trust Amazon's reviews nowadays 😕
This would give you a little more room to work too. I'm glad you like the outtro...I think I'll keep using it!
The drain valve is inside the hole of the radiator support at bottom passenger side.
@@KevinNadeau how much do you think a shop would charge, I need this. I have put so much work in my car already. Thinking what it could be only to find out it's a fan clutch. Who can I rent? Hahaha
@@staceystalowy7884 If I had to guess, I'd say a local shop might charge around $300. But call around and get a couple quotes.
@@KevinNadeau I'm going to attempt to do it myself. Already put in the water pump, thermostat, and the reservoir power steering. That belt was a pain in the butt in doing. Or maybe I'll ask my ex-husband to do it for me.
How about an update to the clutch?
Sure thing! Its still in my Envoy and working just fine 👍
@@KevinNadeau thanks for the reply, I swapped my water pump but didn't do the clutch as I didn't think about it 😔. Water pump neck was very loose. Now my 02 tb is getting to 215 degrees and fan no longer roar at all. Didn't have any issues until I swapped the pump. Also noticed with hptuners the fan speed get as low as 400 rpm while driving.
@@KevinNadeau I just bought the clutch from your provided link! Haven't installed yet, all of a sudden when I was driving I seen the temp gauge was below half. Turns out i was 188 which I havent seen since my old thermostat was stuck open.
Did a scan with HPtuners and the fan seemed to be operating at normal but who knows for how long.
@@cylinderTBLS As soon as you said that I thought of the thermostat. I have successfully changed mine twice by going through the wheel well.
@@KevinNadeau Really the themostat? I swapped it a few month back as it was stuck open. My problem with the temp literally started right after I swapped the water pump but didn't do the fan clutch. Hmm. I do have the clutch on hand same one you purchased.
What you did would take me about 20 minutes to half an hour with a beer! Thanks for sharing this with us any way.
😂🤣😂🤣 Riiiiiiiight...
Congratulations?
The big nut is 36mm?
Not sure, I just use my largest crescent wrench.
@@KevinNadeau yes, it's 36mm. I was able to get it off with my biggest crescent wrench also and a couple of good hammer whacks.
love it
👍
My check engine light come on today. So I took my trailblazer to check, and they told me that I just need to replace the wire connector.
bro i need that part.... WHERE DO YOU FIND IT?
Releasing the clutch it.bye you didn't help .use a breaker bar to stop rotation and place it were you can and then turn the ignitions little at a time without starting
I wouldn't advise cranking your car while there are tools in the engine bay.
I’ll probably take the hoses and shrouded off so I don’t buttfuck the radiator but thanks bro
👍
Sorry but if u do it the right way u don't take the chance on damaging the radiator with the fan clutch
Why not show people a couple inportant things? Like which direction to turn the large nut on the clutch? Oh counterclockwise? I dont recommend leaving shroud in and pulling clutch through a small hole and busting your radiator. Bad news for inexperienced guys.
Go back and rewatch between about 5:20 and 6:00, I talk about which direction to take the fan off.
that is their problem not his.
Why the fan clutch is engaged if you truck it's cool ??????? 🤔👎👎👎👎
Because the viscous fluid in the clutch was cold and the valves inside the clutch were closed.
What Kevin said and it helps warm up the engine by adding that extra stress to the engine then it will regulate. It is not a typical fan clutch, it is electronically controlled hints the wires.
@@KevinNadeau so when your fan clutch is engaged - do you see it spinning on the front of the condenser also? Should be same as TB? thanks - I can't stop my fan but I don't have any spinning of that part
My God
