I made the holding tool by myself from a flat iron peaces. You can also loosen two of the the small nuts and place the holding tool beneath them to make it easier.
Hey guys, I'm gonna make this even easier for you. You DO NOT need to remove the serpentine belt. That is not necessary for this repair at all. You also don't need to cut your fan shroud. Its plastic and it will bend over the upper radiator nozzle easily. So I saved you two steps right there. All you have to remove is the upper radiator coolant hose, the two bolts that hold the fan shroud on, pop the transmission lines off of the fan shroud, unplug the electric connector that connects the clutch to the wiring harness, and of course you have to disconnect the clutch by unscrewing that 36mm bolt. Mine was actually slightly smaller then a 36 so a clutch removal tool didn't work. I had to buy a crescent wrench from walmart and I rented the clutch holder tool from Advance Auto. Some pliers to remove hose clamps, a basic socket set, and a little bit of coolant was all I needed. The repair its self was pretty easy.
As of 3/2024, my 2004 TBZ EXT fan shroud wouldn't slip over the hose fitting, it would break when I tried to make it though. A small hacksaw solved the problem and the swap was finished in less than 15 minutes afterward.
I have a 04 trailblazer. I use a swingset chain. I unbolt one of the four bolts on the pully and put the chain on it then bolt the chain to a spot on the engine. It holds the pully while you loosen the fan, no special tool required. I have the same cutout in my fan shroud and have never had any overheating issues. Fyi the trailblazer has the easiest water pump to change, i can do it in about thirty minutes
Seems GM made that way harder than it really needed to be. I’ve had to remove my fan clutch off my ranger water pump. It seemed simple compared to what you went through. 🤔
Being that you have owned multiple trailblazers as indicated in this video. Why do you continue to service them with the crazy BS fixes they seem to pop up like s@#& I've personally never seen in another vehicle I've owned? IN such a short amount of time driving mine. The fixing stories. J@%$* F*#$!
It's very interesting that you didn't even show us how you took the fan apart and out but all over sudden it's removed and maybe people wanted to see how that was done. That's a big piece cut out your video.
My 2004 envoy shakes whe i shift to drive or when i shift to reverse... But when is park or neutral doesn't shake anymore.. do you have any ideas what's causing the problem?
Thanks for making this. Most videos show the V8 engine instead of the 4.2. Also they fight with the shroud where you showed removing it.

Good idea! Thanks 👍

Thanks for your videos BTW!
Did your fan just stop working???My TB the fan never shuts off and is throwing a code fan speed sensor circuit?Any thoughts?
Do you like those factory clamps? I always replace the with the worm drive kind.
I don’t mind them. They’re pretty hard to open up, but I like that they can stay “clicked” open.
@@TheDaninator i had one leak on a new jeep
I was waiting to see which way you turned the nut that held the fan on…

Has anyone came out with a good fan clutch for these 4.2 engines. Changing for the 3rd time.
I use Hayden fan clutches , good stuff
