    I'm sure these are great tech, no doubt. Just a quick story to tell. I had a pair of muffs like this on last year at an outdoor range. I had a friend with a new AR10 come and ask me if I wanted to check it out and send a few rounds down range. Of course I did. The pair I had one was rated at 22 NRR as well.
    I fired a 10 round magazine, and after the first shot I knew something was not quite right. He had a muzzle brake on the rifle, so I figured it was just a different sound that was accompanying the muzzle blast. There was a sharp tinge to every impulse when I fired a round.
    Well, long story short, that sharp tinge was the broken hair cells in my right ear, and I now have hearing loss and permanent tinnitus. It has been life changing to say the least.
    If I had to do it over again, I would always wear double ear protection no matter what. I use the cheap in-ear soft plugs, and then a 33 NRR set of shop muffs. Not always the easiest to get a cheek weld on some rifles, but that's just too bad. As for hearing steel ring, I'll just have to rely on the splash and not the sonic feedback.
    Many watching this channel are avid shooters, and I still am. I would caution folks that these kind of electronic muffs have their limits, as does your hearing. Remember, exposure to acoustic concussive blast and it's effect is cumulative on your hearing. If you are 25 and shoot all the time and are thinking, I've never had any issues, so I'm good to go with the cheap pair of muffs I wear, that may be true for now. Maybe not so much when you are 40.
    I make anyone who comes shooting with me wear double hear pro. My wife and kids do as well. I tell all my friends to. Every audiologist I have ever seen (and unfortunately, I have seen quite a few) recommends double hearing protection in any shooting environment.
    Have fun. Enjoy the shooting sports and hunting. Just be careful, and remember that just ONE unprotected blast from a gun can do what has happened to me. Don't risk it. You don't want to walk in my shoes.
    Be safe everyone.

      BeachGunner great post.
      I developed tinnitus as well. To all the young folk, I cannot stress enough how bad it is. Full time tinnitus is a disability. You will be miserable for life. Some people commit suicide from 24/7 ringing. Wear double ear pro, avoid indoor ranges where long rifles are fired or desert eagles are rented. It is not worth it.

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I get strange looks when I am always reaching for my earmuffs at the range since I (almost) always wear earplugs.
      This just gives me greater incentive to ALWAYS use double protection regardless of what muff I use (both ANC and Passive).

      When I was in the marine corps. I had quite a few times exposed to gun fire without ear protection I’d plug them ASAP but not always able to do so quickly. Specifically remember a few instances of a m240B just unleashing hell on my eardrums lol today I always double ear pro. But hearing about this electronic ear pro lately makes me wanna try it out maybe wear plugs under them?? Will it still work effectively or is it just pointless? Btw I do believe I already have some mild hearing damage.

    • @cdggcali
      @cdggcali 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danusmc2081 I usually use the SureFire EP7 earplugs because I believe it gives me the best of both worlds. With the filter caps open, these earplugs allow you to hear the conversation around you with or without the earmuff on. If you need to take your earmuff off momentarily and someone fires a shot, you still have protection

    I just got a set of these for Christmas after trying a set out at my local indoor range. The primary reason I asked for them is of course good ear protection while shooting, the secondary reason is my wife's grandma is hard of hearing, but won't wear hearing aids or an earbud that does "whisper mode". I took these out of the box, put in voice mode, and cranked them up, she could kinda hear us. Switched to Power Boost and for the first time in a year we were able to have a normal conversation where we weren't yelling at her. So, while not their original purpose, it did what I hoped it would do and gave her a way to talk with us more naturally.

    I’ve had this set for about 8 months. I wear them for my carpenter job. Works great for nail guns. They do get a bit warm in the summer months. As of May 2019, walkers didn’t offer gel ear pads.
    I like to turn the work noise down and listen to TH-cam or music while working. The Bluetooth buttons are a lil too close to operate easily. Especially with gloves on.
    But all in all I really like them. I get about 14 hours of use from the batteries while using Bluetooth. Rechargeable batteries are a must.

But I’m not really planning on listening to xmas music while i shoot……. Its a great product and bang for the buck!!

The addition of bluetooth is great cuz now I can answer calls or watch your videos while at the range waiting my turn. Got mine on big daddy Unlimited for $81 and got some gel ear pads on Amazon for $16. Also got a hardcase that holds them and my eye pro (with a zipper pocket in the lid that I put extra batteries, cleaning cloth, and alcohol spray for $13) also on Amazon.

      Alaskan Ballistics I have the Walker Razor’s, and they are excellent for hunting. They enhance my ability to hear low sounds, such as, leaves crunching with the walking of animals, being able to whisper back and forth to my hunting pal and actually hear them, etc. When it’s time to take my shot, the sound amplification shuts down and protects my ears.

    I bought a set of Walkers Excel muffs without the bluetooth back in December of last year. Yes they do sell gel cups for them. Noisefighter gel cups from Amazon. The Walkers work fine for hand guns but I always have trouble when shooting rifles with any brand of muffs. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I can not get a good cheek weld without the muffs interfering. I also have a pair of the Howard Leight Impact Sport muffs and to me they seem to be slightly slimmer than the Walkers. Although the Walkers are rated higher for NRR, I really can't tell the difference there either. The controls on the Walkers are difficult to manipulate while you are wearing them. Trying to feel for the on/off and volume controls while they are on your head is like fumbling around for something in the dark. And which side is left and which side is right, LOL.

    I've been sport shooting and hunting since I was 10 years old (1974), AND I spent 11 years active duty in the Army, so I already have a bit of tinnitus, but nothing too serious. Over the years I never wore hearing protection when deer hunting because I need to be able to hear what's around me. I won't take a shot unless it's pretty much a sure thing, but that still might be six shots a year from my trusty old Remington 788 in .308. I finally broke down and bought the Bluetooth XCEL 100s for this year, and will still be wearing foam plugs in addition to the muffs. I finally retired my antique Charles Daly muffs. I DO have a question; Where did you get the hat in the video introduction? Did you just cut slits in your wide-brimmed cap so the muffs would fit through the brim? The wide brim and neck "scarf" are a must for this shaved head Florida boy ...

    for the shooting range I won't use anything less than 30 dB. My hearing is just too far gone already. But this will be interesting while hunting. As I found that just a few shots while hunting really bothers my ears these days. Especially when you're in the tundra and there's no trees around the block it. When are you gonna come up and shoot a Caribou or moose?

    • @Murphy82nd
      @Murphy82nd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

If I put my phone on the bench 20 feet away, there are latency issues and slows down as I get farther away and speeds up as I get closer. I have a $10 set of BT Walmart ear buds that connects at 30 plus feet, through 2 walls without a problem. Kind of pissed I spent as much as I did on this POS.

    Is the amplify mode for hunting?

      Just guessing but maybe for people like me who wear plugs underneath. High power rifles even with muffs are still really loud. My 338 Lapua Magnum and 300 Winchester Magnum are unbearablely loud without double hearing.

    Are these made and/or designed in the UK? If not, why the British voice?

      Walker's are made in China, but they are designed in the USA. They outsource the manufacturing in China since it's cheaper.
