Personally, I'd like to hope Doan's Island is going to be used by Sunrise to not only gauge interest in a full remake, but to find a standout staff member or group able to take up the mantle of director/codirectors after Yasuhiko-sensei's retirement.
Well I guess that depends, how many Assistant/Animation directors were on Doan's Island? That's the only way I could see it really working as a talent assessment, can't just do it one at a time.
I believe this remake is necessary, since the Gundam franchise still isn't growing recognition in the West. People still view it as a non-stop mecha action show to sell Gunpla.
UC content has never looked better than in The Origin or Hathaway's Flash. Of course I would like to see the original anime like this. I felt like that with the new Zeta footage as well. But then again, there is so much more to explore in the UC and tell other stories of other characters. Either way, I will welcome any new UC content with open arms. Keep up the good work! 👍
@@DIEGhostfishew Translation was the biggest cocktease ever. I can't believe they got away with releasing that with 10 percent remastered footage and 90 percent ZG Roll.
The future of the Gundam franchise should aim to focus more on the characters, themes, and stories as opposed to the mecha themselves, as means of convincing people that Gundam is so much more than Gunpla.
Tbh, I hope it doesn't get remade. 0079 was my intro to the whole franchise, and despite its many flaws, I love it just how it is. I'd rather see them keep making new things and innovating on the idea of Gundam.
I would love a remake of the original trilogy! They’ve come up with some great OVAs for the UC and there’s some great different Gundam timelines out there but there’s just something about revisiting The Universal Century, that is just so exciting! And just as much or more so when they add on to it!
The only problem with a remake is the sad but necessary choice they need to make. We either get the origin 0079 or the original timeline, while the origin is a great version of the original gundam it contradicts other works since its a slightly different timeline. I say all of this because while it is true that the majority of people who would watch already know this, there are many people that won't and then it'll probably become a confusing mess to explain for them to understand other works like 08th ms team, 0080 war in the pocket and all the side story games in the timeline. Then again this is my opinion since I like the lore from U. C.
I hope it happens gundam is a great franchise and once they remake the original and get rid of its problems and shortcomings will hopefully be able to make gundam one of the bigger anime names once again and retake its throne.
I think that a good solution might be to create recopilatory movies(using the same animation as this new movie) as Sunrise did in the past with the orignal series aftter their release on cinemas, they might adapt them in a series by adding new scenes, like Kimetsu no Yaiba did recently.
I'm honestly surprised Sunrise didn't do that, following the recent Origin movies. I was really hoping that would happen as I'd love to finally experience the story/characters of 0079 without old animation and cheesy dialogue.

I felt that way for a long time, but now, I’m not sure. In many ways, I feel like it would be no different than remaking A NEW HOPE, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, and RETURN OF THE JEDI. They’re contemporary to 0079, but they’re still classics.
I don't even know why it's still not being made. it's been long overdue, releasing origin was the perfect time to remake it. The original staff are already going in their 80s and I'm afraid it won't be made.
I like to see a remake of the original 0079 to expand on the conclusion, such as reaction from all sides. Each side gets 1 episodes and what happens to the members of White Base. I think Cucuruz Doan Island should be included in the remake, that's 5 episodes right there and how the aftermath sets up the other events to happen the UC timeline. I think the Gundam: The Origins art style would be great for the remake too.
I'm not sure it needs to happen. First off, the story has already been told and it's a straight up golden classic. Doan's Island is going to cover a good portion of what was going on in the OYW, if they keep making movies that zoom in on side happenings depicting what we saw in 0079 or what was going on with other characters while crossing paths with White Base, IMO it would be the way to go. I wouldn't be opposed to it but there's so many things they could keep making movies of without retelling the same story, it would be respectful to what already exists. If you get a remake of 0079, what is that besides better animation?
Yeah I agree, the original is always the go-to source of the story for me and while I wouldn't mind a remake for those who wanna experience it in a more modern way, watching the original is good enough for me
People need to stop asking this question! The original became a hit because of the voice acting, silliness, and grim scenes present in the first one. Why sacrifice all that just for an "updated/modern" look? The best you will get is the remake done for the PS1 game, Journey to Jaburo. They recreated several of the key moments and is worth a look.
Wait, selling dvd's right after the movie is kind of genius. It's a bold move almost giving off we think you'll like it so much you want to dvd, but if the did really enjoy it and coming off the high of just seeing it, in case they cwant to see it again soon, or want to see it again much later after it's no longer in theaters, or just no go out of their way to find it later. That's genius marketing.
I saw Doan's Island in the movies and they were selling the Blu-Rays only for about $80. I don't understand why everything is so expensive in Japan. I had to pass and hoping to watch it again on Netflix or something.
Where is the 0:41 animation from. It’s too detailed to be from the original. I’ve seen the tv and movie version and it doesn’t have that animation. Where is it from?
The Gundam 0079 movie trilogy is good enough. Sure it's dated, but it's part of the charm 🤷♂️ The worst part about making an updated Gundam 0079 anime/movie for this day and age is that you need to find some new VA casts to replace either the deceased ones like Michael Kopsa for the English dub of Char, or the ones who got kicked like Tooru Furuya for the Japanese dub of Amuro 🤷♂️
Yeah absolutely! There’s a few more things I want to do with the U.C timeline like with the Origin, but there’s so much more series outside U.C that I really wanna talk about :)
I want the series when take place in the timeline when majority of human leave milky way galaxy to another galaxy to sheek a new home because of dying Earth and ended the U.C era. Meanwhile, humans which is still live on Earth still living their life until C.C era are coming.
Sunrise and bandai are some of the biggest powers in the anime game next to TMS with lupin etc. There is no reason sunrisebandai can't fund a 0079 Gundam remake
I really don't want there to be a remake of 0079. The original anime is good. Remakes should be for bad stuff, like cucuruz doan's island. Maybe somebody should remake Eiken, that anime had a good idea but bad execution. Ultimately, a remake of a good series will always be less interesting than making a new series, see for example, Legend Of The Galactic heroes Die Neue Thesis as compared with The Saga Of Tanya The Evil. What I'd like to see most is a sequel to Hathaway, I hear Hathaway was based on book 1 of a trilogy. And I'd also like to see another new Gundam anime, like IBO or WFM, but with slightly more restrained shots and cuts.
"people don't like older anime" It really depends on the series in question as some are more tolerable than others. As for the gundam shows, I like everything from Gundam 0080 onward. Personally, 0083 was the best in terms of decent dialogue, music, and beautiful animation of any series. I would absolutely love a 0079 remake and a bit disappointed it didn't happen since the recent Origin movies. It would be nice to experience the original story/characters without having to sit through cheesy dialogue & music, and bland animation.

I’m also just about to watch Char’s Counterattack, and I’m starting to get sick of Zeon already. I mean I like Zeon as villains, but we don’t need 5 wars with Zeon in them.
Reboot the original in origins style following the manga closely because there us soooo much more depth and content compared to the original. And it could finally put the original team's regrets about the original anime's quality and pacing.
No, because UC is too milked of a cashcow, it's turned into a dairy farm by now. Getting a new series like The Witch From Mercury is the best path to take.
