I’ve been a Shimano user for the past couple of years and just recently went back to try Daiwa again, (owned a Steez A and currently own a zillion and Steez limited 2021) . In my opinion, the Micromodule gears on shimano makes a big difference with how smooth your retrieve is. I’ve always had a slight play or wobble when retrieving with Daiwa reels if I’m really cranking my fish or lure in. However the case, I thought the metanium and Antares series couldn’t be beat until I got my hands on the new Steez Limited edition and zillion but specifically the Steez. It casts just as far, if not farther then my metanium and Antares, and it’s so much easier to cast without getting a bird nest. There’s definitely pros and cons between both high end reels from each company, and I’ve always thought I would stick with Shimano, but the recent releases from Daiwa got me thinking otherwise. This is just my opinion based on my time with these reels on the water.
I can only agree with you @HMCNoMercy23, however, as an advanced user of the baitcasters and a hardcore Shimano user, when I touched the Steez Limited SV TW it was an instant switch. I am squeezing WAY MORE from this Steez Limited compared to any of Shimano reels. Sooooo yea...big fan boy Shimano instantly reconsindered my combos. I am not sure yet what to think about the BFS combos, I am still running full decked Aldebaran 2016. The smoothness in this Steez is unreal, I can't understand people who talk about Antares smoothness being godly, I believe they haven't used this Steez 😂😂😂
Man, you nailed it. I have both as well and whereas the Steez is a pleasure to throw, the Metanium needs a lot of attention. I would agree on each and any aspect you mentioned. Well done!
The Shimano Antares is a better comparison of flagship against flagship. The Zillion and Metanium are more comparable in my opinion. With that said your points were all very valid and interesting.
And the Zillion is better than the Steez A, had both. The new Zillion is smoother and overall feels better, hell the Steez A has 4 bushings in the handle.
I'm just getting off the water fishing jdm met and Zillion. I've had them both for about a year now. Today seals it for me, I'm selling the met and getting another zillion.
Just got back from first trip out. Bought two zillion sv G’s and One Metanium mgl b this winter. My early impressions are I’m glad I bought two zillions. The Metanium is nice but the zillion is just so easy to switch between different style, and weight baits while still performing as good as the Metanium with way less hassle. I’m going to put the Metanium on a rod that is used more for a single use. Maybe I’ll change my mind with more time in but that’s my two cents. Thanks for the videos punch!
It's crazy timing you are doing this. Yes I do have bad eyes too being 50 now and always on the computer, feel your pain. I had to remember how to go up and down with the side breaks too. I think each model goes in different directions to max. I have also lost my 16 met sideplate in the water and had to buy another when i opened the breaks up. I've been a shimano guy forever, I own the met's 16,20, alde's mgl, E,I,K's in curado, chronarchs mgls. Seeing your AGS rod review, I picked up that rod and put something fancy on it, a new Japan version Zillion SV, 6.2 oz upgraded knobs, bearings. I also just purchased a 16 Steez SV with a carbon handle knob upgrade. Haven't been on the water yet with em, but I did own Tatulas original CT, and CTR. Felt bulky, heavy, no distance and break wore into my hand. I couldn't get those to cast like shimanos. Though Shimanos you have to set cast control, breaks just right gave me best casting but not trouble free. My share of loosing expensive flouro line and blowups in wind. I agree I love the Steez , zillion, beautiful quality, so better than the tatula line on quality. I might even pick up a Steez A since it supposed to be more for longer casting. Hope they fair better than my Tatula experience. I gotta say I love the new Met though, amazing reel, yeah its a shimano finicky. Love the Curado 150 mgl.. too
I mostly go with Shimano for that finger on butter feel, but you can get that with a curado mgl and save a ton of money. Shimano and Daiwa have two entirely different brake philosophies. Daiwa seems to want to do everything for you, with zero adjusters and magnetic brakes. Shimano leaves it open to what you want to do with it, aside from the DCs. With my Curado's I mostly throw braid to leader, and braid casts so much easier then fluoro that I back my spool tensioner off completely until I get just a bit of side to side play, then turn my brakes on just enough so it doesn't blow up immediately, then let my thumb do the rest. I like how loose the reel feels that way. However it does lead to more backlashes, and baits that catch the wind like spinnerbaits and chatterbaits can be a problem.
And Daiwa reels as well as DC reels will have failed if they backlash which means they tend to overbrake and leave you with a shorter cast. I outcast my Daiwa reels as well as a previously owned DC reel easily with an MGL reel. And I do not find it hard to adjust either.
@@laho1106 I ended up selling the only Daiwa reel I had. I didn't find a huge difference in casting, maybe 5-10 feet more with my Curado versus my Fuego CT, but the brakes made the reel feel tighter, like I was leaving distance on the table. With centrifugal brakes they ease off towards the end of your cast as the spool is slowing down, so you can guide it with your thumb easier. The magnetic brakes just stay on. So it makes it feel like you're losing a bunch of distance, even if the actual distance you lose is 5-10 feet, but it's an annoying feeling that I just didn't like. Maybe if I used all magnetic brakes it wouldn't annoy me so much.
I like the Steez A, I have them all. I only buy the JDM models. Like you said, they just work. No fiddling around with side plates. The new Zillion HD here in Japan is really nice also and smooth with 10 bearings and is cheaper then the Steez.
I have tried the Steez A and it was just OK, I wasn't blown away by it but the Steez SV and the CT have been fantastic to fish. I also have the new Met. and I had issues with the line guide as well. I found the paw cap had an unfinished piece of plastic that was catching when you cranked the handle. It was also cross threaded. I exchanged it and my replacement has been flawless. Out of all them the Steez SV has been my favorite.
I used to be a huge Shimano guy.. But over the last couple of years I recently found a new love for Daiwa gear. It can handle the abuse and the consistency is amazing. I felt that when I had a couple metaniums one would be different than the other with the way it cast and such. Anyways I have loved the new Daiwa stuff. Great vid
I would take the new Diawa Zillion over all of them and I own both Diawa and Shimano so I’m not partial to either brand. The Zillion is incredible and will almost cast like a bfs reel but the gears are solid and can handle heavy duty punching with the bearings supported pinion gear support. Diawa is notorious for rebranding their reels just check out the new limited Steez. It’s exactly the same reel as the prior Steez for $600. It’s embarrassing for Diawa. The zillion is the only reel that Diawa actually redesigned and changed gears, pinion support and added a clicker for the drag out alarm. I would take the zillion any day of week it’s the best reel I’ve ever used for half the price of the Steez. The Steez is great but not worth the extra money in my opinion. Well done I really enjoy all of your content keep up the great work.
Have used the new zillion for a few month. It's just wonderful, but sometimes I do get backlashes if I go too low with the new braking system. Sv boost is not as stable as the old sv system, but still really like it. It does have an improvement on long cast for heavier baits. Your review is really fair and detailed. Daiwa baitcasters do have better user experience than Shimano. I have Shimano reels as well, love both of them.
I wouldn't give a Steez to a beginner, as it would spoil every other reel for them, but you make a good point. Most guys who detest bait casters probably haven't tried a good one.
I'm a salt water guy. I'm use to casually casting 30-50 Oz reels. My first baitcaster was a penn low profile sw reel. I just bought a 13 a3, and holy hell, these things are lite. Feels like I'll break it.
I have been introducing a couple of friends to salmon steelhead fishing. They are newbie to fishing Aka rookie. When it comes to baitcaster reels I always recommend Daiwa because of the air break. They are able to learn to cast so quickly and have a great experience and good times fishing. I highly recommend Daiwa baitcast with air break to people who want to learn to use a baitcast.
I got a jdm 2021 zillion 1000 sv last year for $350. Loved it so much, just got another one before bass season starts up again. Even better is that the current usd to yen is in our favor, so got the same reel for $265 shipped. Win. It’s just a steez for a much better price point.
I have 4 metanium, 2 aldebarans, 2 new bantams, 4 curado 70 ks, 4 chronarchs and a curado dc…in other words I like Shimano BUT I got my hands on a steez ct sv tw 70. At first I was like ok not a big deal but the more I use that thing the more I want another one. Im launching 3/16 Texas rigs a mile, it feels phenomenal, it also sits lower on the rod than the metanium..sits like an aldebaran. it handles finesse type stuff as well as heavy techniques…I could probably frog fish with it. The price is absolutely ridiculous…if the steez A is anything close to it I’d like to check it out same with the steez sv tw…i have to say as far as the metaniums go there’s not a more comfortable reel. Love the handles…
Good job!!!! I went from quantum back-in-the-day 2 Shimano and now I'm converting to daiwa. I feel like I've been searching for the best reel my whole life😂😂
I, too, have a steez, steez A steez ct, couple of zillions, and a 20 Metanium. The Metanium is crazy smooth. The core solid body is ridiculous. But Daiwa is by far easier to throw. The only way I escape the finicky-ness of the Met is to turn on all 4 internal brakes and just adjust with the outside knob. Apparently, thats how the svs brakes are supposed to be utilized.
I feel like the zillion was meant to be thrown with braid. It seems to cast so much more well when spooled up with it. I’ve had experience with all 3 obviously and the Steez A is my favorite as well. Although I did just recently pick up a CT 70 from Japan and it absolutely bombs 110 class jerkbaits and feels just as sturdy and refined under retrieve. The only one I’m still lacking is an SV TW and I’m waiting to get the JDM only 1012 XH because that should be a perfect compliment to the Super Destroyer
I prefer the metanium over the steez. I feel like the steez or daiwa reels in general over brake there reels. The metanium is better if u got a good thumb. The thing w the metanium alot of folks dont know is u don't need to use the same strength to cast it. A light throw will send the lure flying. The steez is better for skipping tho. The metanium is better for cranking. I do agree w opening the metanium up tho. It's annoying af lol
Daiwa seems to try make their dummy proof all you have to do is spool up and go, but I prefer shimanos ad well cause you can really dail it in and it's a lot easier than many people make it out to be and feels better in hand
@@xibfwmz yeah. Daiwa is like driving an automatic and shimano is more of a manual u could say. I'm always wanting a little more distance from the daiwa or I find myself leaving the spool open at the end of cast just so the lure can continue to fall away from me.
Great video. I sold my steez sv TW limited because of the zillion actually I traded it for a jdm rod lol. I love my zillion. If someone wants a met b just buy it from Japan for around 250-270 depending on the exchange rate.
Got to agree with you with all of it. The Metanium is a nice reel. I tried one previous and it casted well but wasn’t as smooth as Steez or Zillion. The new Zillion I feel is = to the Steez SV Tw except in weight. Both I would take over Metanium MGL. The reel I also love is the SV103 built with old zillion frame. It’s a bit heavier but it’s really smooth and solid . Also, I was picking them up cheap used. You want a awesome used reel built like a tank that’s the Sv103.
Dude, did you have a few RedBulls before filming this? Your energy in this was was off the charts. Loved this video. I picked up a couple of Zillions last year from Omnia with your code and their 10% premium rewards back, which made them a really good buy. My Met B has a somewhat floating feel to it when I crank which makes it feel disconnected. Sounds strange but I actually prefer to feel the gears as bit. I generally prefer using the Daiwa baitcasters (I also have a Steez SV TW) over the Shimano's. Opposite for spinning.
I had a Steez A and something went wrong, I hate to say this because the reel was awesome and BOMBED when using the Zillion SVTW spool. The reel developed a tick because of a levelwind shift, was still smooth but the tick was driving me crazy. Was a VERY simple fix, Tackle Trap in Alabama fixed it for cheap, but after using the new Zillion (which is a better reel than the A), I sold it and tried a Calcutta Conquest.
I agree 💯%. Ive had good luck with my middle of the road daiwa's and Shimano's. The only difference I notice when using a steez or a metanium is weight. But when it comes to feeling quality on the higher end reels...nah not really different than the 200-250 dollar reels. The only exception is the 2018 bantam, that one and the new zillion both feel nice.
I don’t know if anybody has said this yet. Shimano reels come with all the internal brakes on for a reason. They want you to just use the outside dial to adjust your brakes. I use my tension knob and brake dial.
The new metaniums have gotta be a nightmare for guys who like a lot of assistance with their braking, etc…they’re kind of the “anti-Daiwa” in a weird way. The downside of a reel being so ridiculously open and free wheeling is that you NEED to have a well-trained thumb if you wanna go the distance. The curado 70 is the same way. I bypass most of that long casting craziness with the way I use the new metanium, though. I’ve had it parked on my conquest 744 as a short range jig setup for the last couple of seasons. Four brakes on, low on the dial, near-free-fall spool tension…that “old school shimano vbs” setting. In that context, it’s basically hassle-free.
i own all the reels in this video but the jdm variants...regardless you nailed it in this vid. likewise, the magforce braking system is superior...that simple. the versatility in the wind goes to the steez/zillion21 hands down. jdm met20s are priced right and feel they're tremendous value on the japanese marketplace as they can be had for much less nib. but still, the steez and zillion21 reels are more forgiving and much more consistent. again, good vid...nailed it!
Unbiased content? He favored Daiwa’s $720 reel over shimano’s 4th best reel at $300. He could’ve at least used the Metanium DC or even gone to the flagship $550 Antares DC 😭
Love your videos! Now, if money is #1 which it is for most people when they compare the actual comparizon here should be Zillion vs. Metanium and not Met. vs. Steez. Maybe in the US, bot overall in price point, the Met. can be found at roughly same price as Zillion but the Zteez has always been quite a bit more expensive. Would 100$ or more extra in Metanium have built a better reel, maybe not. The flaws you mention could still be implemented in a reel as expensive as the Steez, guess they just missed the mark.
That new Infiniti drive on the bantam is no joke... I've never put my hands on a steez but I've always thought daiwas are more effortless/free and shimanos are more butter smooth... that new bantam with the Infiniti drive is like shimano smooth with daiwas effortless/free feeling.. not sure it beats the zillion though... still testing them both.
Have not thrown the new Zillion yet other than in the yard spooled it. Wish it had more line capacity. So can’t speak for wind variable’s on brake adjustment. Have a couple new and old Metaniums like the higher line capacity but side plate on it and the Bantam definitely agree. I seem to grab my Chronarch MGL abit more. Hopefully Shimano will leave the clicking brake adjustment on it and update too the six pin on the next version! Thanks for the review.
@@PunchFishing Tackle Advisor said that Daiwa does aluminum gears really well. Shimano not so much. So Shimano's with aluminum gears are prone to getting geary. All my Shimano's are curado's, so I have no idea, but he seems to know his stuff.
@@andyb2604 people say that, but I've had Aluminum gears from OTHER brands (Lews) that have lasted years without grinding. Shimano's aluminum gears seem to be the only ones with the reputation for wearing out.
Granted, however the mass majority of what makes Shimano unique is their centrifugal...and the argument and heated debate was that centrifugal is superior to magnetic (modern day since the 1990s as Shimano had mag braking in the 70s-80s as but chose to go with centrifugal in the 90s and onwards for their main braking system design). Even when the first Calcutta DC came out in the early 2000s, peeps were still insisting that the various centrifugal system was superior to Daiwa's magforce iterations, all the while the "top end" Shimano was a digitally controlled mag system that seemed to be hidden in these same heated debates. In the end, it's brand preference, and for those that pick on the in/out handle play of Daiwa handle assembly, are the same ones convenient dismissed the sloppy IAR of Shimano for well over a decade and a half. FWIW as well, current DC iterations are nowhere near as far casting or selectable as the older systems on the OG Calcutta/Conquest, Exsence, or Metanium DC reels. This is clearly seen in the postings and complaints by many who own the CU DC and Scorpion DC who note that their casts seem to be very choked off vs the standard centrifugal system. IMO, the current Shimano DC is not as consistent or user friendly or as adjustable in range as Daiwa's magforce iterations. Also, if one wants to extend the casting performance and distance of most late 1990s to current day Daiwa reels, there are literally dozens of available spool options that are drop in ready, especially in 34mm, as well as being added for 33, 30, 36...only the venerable 38mm spool from the Z2020/Z200/Ryoga has limited support for aftermarket spools. Also, micro module gears, especially Gen 1 aluminum from Shimano had a high number of premature wear issues, it was from both design and the material selected and also how the pressure stack was designed to sit on top of the gear. There is a reason Shimano went brass on essentially all Gen II MM gears and why the pinion support has been redesigned, in order to deal with and quietly sweep the Gen I MM gear issues away in order to maintain their reputation for durability and reliability. This is not lost on those who pay attention and aren't blindly loyal to a brand that may not even be paying their bills. Lol. FWIW and YMMV.
Been a Daiwa fan for years I recently purchased a Shimano slx mgl jdm version for jerkbaits , also okuma hakai, Daiwa t wing system running braid to leader catches on the wing but that okuma is sweet
I picked up two zillions over the winter used them yesterday out on wi lake for the first time. The reel seems to be a winner. I have not stepped up to the steez yet or wait til Omnia gets more zillions in stock
I have mostly Daiwa's and Lews reels but sprung for a Shimano alderbaren for my new Nrx+ 852c and I agree 1000% about seeing to adjust the brakes. It's awful! I like the reel but will probably be my last Shimano.
I have two Shimano Met B’s and they are good, very good but I never seemed to love them, i want to try the new Zillion, but it is like impossible to find in stock. I use the left handed, so that might not be helping me, but I don’t see many in stock in right either. Loved the video and it seems like no matter how good Daiwa does people just go for Shimano cause of the cast distances but thats not everything as we all know. I just wish Daiwa had better rods, Shimano nearly has the rod market locked down at all price points. Unless Megabass brings back the Destroyer at $399, that would be a good line at a decent price point.
Omnia has the 6 and 8 available in left and you can use punch’s promo code to take 15% off! I own two and used them for the first time today, one was throwing various crankbaits and the other throwing a chatterbait and so far I prefer them over my Metanium mgl b.
If you can make a video to explain the difference among all MGL familiars, it will be awesome! I’m particularly interested in the comparison between metanium MGL and Curado MGL 150. Would like to see the difference besides smoothness
Added a few steez and zillions this past year and I do enjoy using them but I find there is a lot of play in the assembly compared to the Shimano models. I just feel if your spending $500 plus the fit should be flawless and there should be no movement and clunking. I think the Metanium 100DC would have been a better comparison as they are the same price point and braking system is similar and has the metal worm gear. Just my opinion but still a great video.
Not sure what all the hassle is about on the Metanium, I set it 2 brakes on use my thumb, I have not found a casting reel that can cast farther. My two Metaniums are the Japanese versions with the shallower spool.
I was seriously looking at the Shimano. After watching your video, and seeing the side plate completely comes off…uh, no! I’m a bit on the clumsy side, so I could see myself dropping the side plate in the water.
I'm a Daiwa (JDM) guy, but at $220-$250 new from Japan the 2020 Metanium is a no brainer. Yea its clunky compared to My JDM Zillion HD, Steez A HLC and even my Steez 2016 SV. It does outcast all my Daiwa reels. Time will tell the "reel"truth. My 2016 Steez SV is 90-95% like new, My Zillion HD goes back and forth to the saltwater as well as my A's and they get no special treatment and cast like new. Shimano says saltwater safe, so the 7.1 MET 2020 will become my new saltwater bay bass reel.
I’m looking at the Shimano TranX 300 to pair up with my Gloomis 965 and 966 if it ever comes back in stock and wanted to hear your opinion about the 300 thank you in advance
Thank you for this video...I was thinking about upgrading to a Metanium after a I use the bantam(just switched from Daiwa) but after this video I may re-think....!!
Year later i stick with shamino metanium over the zillion. Metanium out preforms the zillion. On jdm market the metanium is $110-140 cheaper than zillion right now. I would take steez over metanium of course. But ill take my Shimano Antares "the king of preformance" over any steez.
I have all three and mentanium IST close to the steeze a HCl love it cast way better and the zillion is better than the mantaiun and I'm shamino guy go figure
Please HELP! I bought the Metanium to frog on a 7'3'' XH Expride. I put 65 pound braid on it tight and cranked down the drag. I can pull drag easy by hand... the braid is on a 20 pound mono backing so I know its not slipping on the spool. What should I do?! Can this reel handle locking down the drag for heavy cover frogging? Maybe I got a lemon. What other Shimano reel would you recommend to frog grass and mats. Bantam? Really want this metanium to work :/ Thank you!
How do you know what way to move the drag for more power without numbers ?? You move a shimano brake adjustments the same way as the drag to get more brakes, forward. Don't criticize Shimano reels because your not familiar with them. Daiwa are easier for someone new to baitcasters and easier in general in some ways but shimano reels are smoother and cast further and I have went completely to shimano and i don't find myself wasting anymore time adjusting brakes as I did in the past with Daiwa reels.
This is the first video I’ve heard anything negative whatsoever about the Met MGL. Mine has a few months of use on it now and I just don’t understand the hype. The Curado 150 MGL does everything the Met MGL can do for $240 less. I’m hoping that says more about the Curado than the Metanium. If I could go back I’d pick up a new Zillion or Scorpion DC 150 instead.
Still going to preach it wherever I can: if you're torn between the two, Daiwa's customer service is lacking compared to Shimano. Shimano's is top-notch.
I have recently been going back and forth with Shimano and Daiwa as well. Spinning reels, I will take the Stradic FLs and the Vanfords everyday. However, I'm having a very hard time switching from throwing all Daiwa baitcasters to shimanos... They just seem much harder to adjust and are in general more finicky. With that being said, does the finickiness from the Met and the Curado 200 translate to the chronarch and the bantam?? Id love to see a video on the $300 price point stuff! :)
@@Michaelpruis I had a ballistic, and sold that to go to the vanford on the same rod! The ballistic was great, but that vanford is just stays so dang smooth with a crazy awesome drag, its hard to beat at its pricepoint!🙂
A friend of mine even casts a 5gr jerkbait further on his old (stock) Metanium than with his Aldebaran Bfs. Definitely a nice Reel!! Im very exited for the new shallow edition Metanium. Nice Video :)
I was all shimano till I tried my first tatula sv tw, still convinced it’s the greatest $200 reel I’ve ever used. I will say my biggest gripe with daiwa is the t wing. Sucks so bad to run braid to leader.
Ohh and it's not hard at all, there's a bunch a videos. Some make it hard as hell to tie. But I've got an easy way to tie, just feed the line off the rod and use the rod for tension. That knot lasts untill I have to break off line or I've retied so may times the leaders gone. The line never breaks at the knot either when I break it off.
@@rhodesianhunter9360 knots is easy to tie, but majority of people lazy, the knots is of the thing people put less effort to tying, but knots is one of the most crucial aspect when it comes to fishing yet not a lot people really care, so i just let people do whatever they want to do and if the lost a fish they deserve it, tbh
Can’t say that I have had the same issues on any of my Shimano’s but I have been wanting to branch out and try some Daiwa’s. Only problem is I am a braid to long leader guy. Anybody running long leader without issues? Why does Daiwa have more options without the TWS?
Those connection knots don't go through well. I tie FG knots on 30 pound maxcuatro to 10 pound fc sniper and it still catches. Most my daiwa reels are either straight flouro super short leader now
Bro took Daiwa’s best reel and put it against shimano’s 4th best reel. Didn’t even use a Metanium DC. I’d love to see you revisit this with a Metanium DC at the minimum, but even better would be the Antares DC
At 10:27ish I said the Steez SV is Aluminum when I meant to say it's Magnesium. Small slip up on my part. I do these video's in a single take, sorry.
Love the straight unbiased commentary. And your honest reviews, with no BS or sugar coating. Hope to run into someday at the landing or on the water!
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated 🤘

@@ssj8256 Zillion 21? Not sure what zillion you’re referring to.

This is true. Antares vs Steez. Metanium vs Zillion. In reality though they are all great reels.

I do precisely the same thing when I set up my baitcasters for braid and this is precisely why I like shimano along with the feel and durability.
We are the same, m8. No spool tension and braid to leader = the ultimate in distance casting in my experience
I have all three Zillion, Steez A, and that Met. I agree with you on all points. The Steez A is my favorite though, just ahead of the Zillion.
Most guys who detest bait casters probably haven't tried a good one.
so true!
I'm a salt water guy. I'm use to casually casting 30-50 Oz reels. My first baitcaster was a penn low profile sw reel. I just bought a 13 a3, and holy hell, these things are lite. Feels like I'll break it.
I ordered a JDM Metanium and love it. A fair bit cheaper than the USDM model.
I ended up selling my Mets for the new Zillion 🤷🏻♂️
Bantam is superior to the Metanium imo, I like the zillion as much as the bantam
I feel like I've been searching for the best reel my whole life😂😂
I think we all are.
Your first problem was starting with Quantum lol
I, too, have a steez, steez A steez ct, couple of zillions, and a 20 Metanium. The Metanium is crazy smooth. The core solid body is ridiculous. But Daiwa is by far easier to throw. The only way I escape the finicky-ness of the Met is to turn on all 4 internal brakes and just adjust with the outside knob. Apparently, thats how the svs brakes are supposed to be utilized.
Yes they come stock all on!
Very helpful and just when i am looking for two high end reels to purchase.
I'm always pretty caffeinated.
21 Calcutta Conquest? Even the DC ver. Is a great reel for me
I picked up a used zillion g and was blown away. Now if only I had the money for more
I don’t know if anybody has said this yet.
Thanks and I agree!
Great video choice! Loved the unbiased content and insight into these reels
That's why I brought in the zillion and discussed it in the video.
It's that brass gear, pretty much adds 2/3 to an ounce on to the reel over the aluminum gear.
Yea, didn't want to get into the whole brass vs aluminum gear nuances because it really doesn't matter that much on the water.
@@PunchFishing it matter’s on the water in the long run when that aluminum gear starts to get grindy
@@PunchFishing Tackle Advisor said that Daiwa does aluminum gears really well. Shimano not so much. So Shimano's with aluminum gears are prone to getting geary. All my Shimano's are curado's, so I have no idea, but he seems to know his stuff.
@@twiggsherman3641 no workhorse caster should have aluminum gears
@@andyb2604 people say that, but I've had Aluminum gears from OTHER brands (Lews) that have lasted years without grinding. Shimano's aluminum gears seem to be the only ones with the reputation for wearing out.
I think it would be helpful to add the Shimano d.c. models into your discussion. I generally find them more flexible with less need for adjustments.
he doesn't want to because this is a biases opinion video not a comparison video
I have many shimano models, the stile 16 is the best one out of the bunch hands down.
Been a Daiwa fan for years I recently purchased a Shimano slx mgl jdm version for jerkbaits , also okuma hakai, Daiwa t wing system running braid to leader catches on the wing but that okuma is sweet
Great video. I am trying to decide between the Steez A ii and the Zillion SV. What advantage does the Steez have over the Zillion in your opinion?
I don’t adjust my Mets much, I run them pretty free. Thumb control goes a long way
I just ordered the JDM Metanium from digitaka for $235. Very hard to say no at that price, looking forward to seeing how it is
It's tempting to pick those up with the current pricing, but I really don't like the smaller handle and knobs on the JDM met.
TWing and FG leader knot is totally fine BTW
I picked up two zillions over the winter used them yesterday out on wi lake for the first time. The reel seems to be a winner. I have not stepped up to the steez yet or wait til Omnia gets more zillions in stock
Don’t get the Steez, the zillion blows it out of the water
I have mostly Daiwa's and Lews reels but sprung for a Shimano alderbaren for my new Nrx+ 852c and I agree 1000% about seeing to adjust the brakes. It's awful! I like the reel but will probably be my last Shimano.
Paired my NRX+ 852c with the steez ct sv tw, it is a dream to fish!
Nice vid thanks for the opinions!
Thanks for watching!
Is.. is that a fire hazard in the background? Hah jokes aside(?) good info and feedback!
It's a LED candle 🕯️
Just got a zillion and it is incredible.
If you can make a video to explain the difference among all MGL familiars, it will be awesome! I’m particularly interested in the comparison between metanium MGL and Curado MGL 150. Would like to see the difference besides smoothness
MGL is just the type of spool. You can get the MGL spool across various models.
I had metanium 20 sold it with steez I haven't got any backlash
Not sure what all the hassle is about on the Metanium, I set it 2 brakes on use my thumb, I have not found a casting reel that can cast farther. My two Metaniums are the Japanese versions with the shallower spool.
I think I did give the reel a lot of credit for it's fantastic casting distance.
I was seriously looking at the Shimano. After watching your video, and seeing the side plate completely comes off…uh, no! I’m a bit on the clumsy side, so I could see myself dropping the side plate in the water.
It happens to folks once in a while!
Pretty sure steez is a lot higher in price than met b, both great reels but zillion is more same class as met
The video I posted about earlier was in my recommended and was old! I removed the post! My bad
This was very helpful
Yeah but once you get into high end fishing tackle it's very hard to go back to low end fishing tackle
Very true.
The Steez CT model prices are getting out hand.
Very much cheaper if you order from Japan
I’m looking at the Shimano TranX 300 to pair up with my Gloomis 965 and 966 if it ever comes back in stock and wanted to hear your opinion about the 300 thank you in advance
Thank you for this video...I was thinking about upgrading to a Metanium after a I use the bantam(just switched from Daiwa) but after this video I may re-think....!!
I don't think the Bantam to the Met is really much of an upgrade. Bantam is amazing.
My next birthday wish: Mentanium with a Z brake!
might have to get myself a steez one day. want to use it for swimbait fishing, just need to know what which reel will do it best.
Year later i stick with shamino metanium over the zillion. Metanium out preforms the zillion. On jdm market the metanium is $110-140 cheaper than zillion right now. I would take steez over metanium of course. But ill take my Shimano Antares "the king of preformance" over any steez.
Chronarch Mgl clicks lol and casts awesome 👏
I have all three and mentanium IST close to the steeze a HCl love it cast way better and the zillion is better than the mantaiun and I'm shamino guy go figure
I got a Metanium for $260 for Digitaka. It was worth every penny!
Nice!
I get all my Metaniums from Digitaka, best value reel no doubt
Please HELP! I bought the Metanium to frog on a 7'3'' XH Expride. I put 65 pound braid on it tight and cranked down the drag. I can pull drag easy by hand... the braid is on a 20 pound mono backing so I know its not slipping on the spool. What should I do?! Can this reel handle locking down the drag for heavy cover frogging? Maybe I got a lemon. What other Shimano reel would you recommend to frog grass and mats. Bantam? Really want this metanium to work :/ Thank you!
Going to grab a zillion for squarebills. Would you recommend 6 or 7 ratio?
That's definitely a personal preference, however I like a 6-speed for crankbaits in general.
I think that's because MOST of the videos on YT about Shimano products are from pro staff. 🤷♂️

Can you please do some mid-level reel reviews for the masses?
What models are you considering mid range?
How does the Abu garcia revo4 premier compares to this ones
I've not used that reel personally.
Still going to preach it wherever I can: if you're torn between the two, Daiwa's customer service is lacking compared to Shimano. Shimano's is top-notch.
"cocaine is a hell of a drug" 🤣
I have recently been going back and forth with Shimano and Daiwa as well. Spinning reels, I will take the Stradic FLs and the Vanfords everyday. However, I'm having a very hard time switching from throwing all Daiwa baitcasters to shimanos... They just seem much harder to adjust and are in general more finicky. With that being said, does the finickiness from the Met and the Curado 200 translate to the chronarch and the bantam?? Id love to see a video on the $300 price point stuff! :)
Think you might be missing out on daiwa spinning still too! Ballistic is no joke at the price!
You need to tie an fg knot. I don't feel a thing through the T wing
Honestly I like the chronarch mgl as much or more than the metanium mgl.
You're not the first person I've seen say that
Met feels a bit more solid ... noticeably
When is the zillion review coming?
I could review it! It would be a short video. "it's great!"
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend the Met for people who don't set and forget a setup...
Can’t say that I have had the same issues on any of my Shimano’s but I have been wanting to branch out and try some Daiwa’s. Only problem is I am a braid to long leader guy. Anybody running long leader without issues?
Why does Daiwa have more options without the TWS?
I run braid to leader on all my TWS's with no issues, just make sure your leader is in fact long enough and you won't have any issues
Those connection knots don't go through well. I tie FG knots on 30 pound maxcuatro to 10 pound fc sniper and it still catches. Most my daiwa reels are either straight flouro super short leader now
I have a nrx 873crr. What reel is best for it you’d think?
Entirely depends on your budget!
Get the jdm Metanium Mgl xg for under $300. I have the old Nrx 873CRR & the new Nrx+ 873CRR, both wit Metaniums on them
Do you have a new Omnia code? Thanks.

@@PunchFishing I agree. In all honesty you can't go wrong with any of these 3 reels. They will definitely perform well on the water

In most cases they do!
Fuck, I already bought a metanium mgl 150…. Now I’m just gonna regret this buy from reading the comment section.
