Nice video! I believe with the DCs, you just have to set the tension knob to the point where the spool barely moves side to side. Then the DC system takes care of all of the other adjustments to avoid backlash on most bait sizes. This way the tension knob is set lightly enough to let the DC do its magic. You can get more casting distance on more finessy presentations. I don't know if they changed anyting wtih the DC system on this model, but thats how ive gotten the best performance on the last few DCs I've had.
It says right on the website that the ‘clicks’ he was messing with are directly for extra adjustment with lure weights. Each click is for a specific lure weight range which is awesome
Is the USDM or JDM model? If you mentioned in the video I’m sorry I missed that part. Trying to watch on break at work lol. Wasn’t sure if there was any difference in the 2 models or not. Really love to pick one up pitching/skipping jigs and Texas rigs
i've had mine for a couple of weeks now; ordered from japan. i've gotta say i'm liking it a lot. like you i owned the japanese metanium 20 and felt it was too squirrely with qtr oz swimjigs and such. when they announced the met DC i couldn't resist. now we're waiting on you to throw up a steez 24 vid...oh and by the way it bombs with the new sv boost spool that is smaller than the previous boost spool seen the the zillion21 and steez sv limited. anyway, great vid...wouldn't be surprised if this new met DC ends up being your favorite....until you get the steez 24 that is...lol.
First days I didn’t get to take it out and was tossing it around in my back yard and wasn’t impressed but I think it’s just because it was fresh line and needed to be casted and retrieved to lay correctly because today I got to fish with it and I was able to go down to the nylon setting and half way on the dial. And was able to nearly spool the line with each cast honestly a nice reel but the curado mgl is still a better value and arguably can cast farther I like svs infinity more than dc because you can dial it in to the mm.
Great question! I was comfortably casting Ned rigs around with this reel. However, it is not a bfs reel so any bfs lure would not be ideal. I don’t have any bfs lures so unfortunately, I cannot test it.
IMO, that’s opening yourself up for a birds nest. If you have the brake settings all the way up, you might be able to get away with it but your spool tension knob is designed to keep your spool from free falling.
@@ChewyThaoFishing yeah well it’s just that Shimano recommends no tension as a starting point in the paper guide that comes with the reels. So I’m curious if that’s possible with this certain model. With the regular Metanium and Bantam I only need tension when I’m running FC from 15lb upwards. With anything below, I achieve max distance and accuracy without any tension - especially with light lures that need the lowest startup inertia. So I was wondering if the DC would take care of that as well, since it’s supposed to be more intelligent than the SVS

21 Antares dc is king when it comes to build quality and casting distance. However, I believe Metanium DC fells much better when palming. 21 Antares feels big and bulky.
I do agree that the Antares dc is a great reel. Have you tried the 22 exsence DC? It’s a bit heavier than the 22 Antares DC but I think it has the edge.
@@ChewyThaoFishing same reel just black with drag clicker. I have both. My 21 Antares HG I modded with drag clicker and upgraded the drag to 30lbs. I only got the exsence because it looks/pairs better with certain color rods.
Thanks for the casting test. I just got mine today, spooled ( temporarily) 12lb PP slick 8 with tatsu 10lb leader. Front yard testing with a weightless Texas rigged zman TRD was good! Not super long but I was impressed. Tomorrow I’ll spool on Sufix 131 6lb. I hope it works as power BFS for those 30mph wind days like we had here today. Only disappointment is no clicking drag. I’m curious if someone makes that upgrade.
My only concern and reservation about this reel is simply... the SLX DC XT... very similar specs and tech for half the price. Is the Met double as good?
Get an ultra light rod. Preferably a moderate, instead of a fast. Fenwick makes HMG & HMX models that won’t break the bank. If you can find a Finesse Elite model - even better! A 1000 size reel is al you need. Shimano Nasci, Miravel or Vanford. Depending on your budget. I prefer catching trout on the Fly, but ultra light spinning gear is incredibly fun, too! Tight lines 🥂
I would go more BFS set-up when throwing trout lures. The Calcutta Conquest BFS reel would be a great reel. Just need to find a rod of your choice/preference.
Thanks for watching! Everything about them is the same except that the XG picks up more line per revolution. XG spool spins 8 times per each crank of the handle where the HG spins 7 times per each crank of the handle.
Hard to say - they are completely different reels. The met dc is a lot lighter and offers easier adjustments. I think the exsence dc has it beat in casting distance but the met dc is more versatile and covers a wider range of lures.
At this time, there is no indication unfortunately. Best way is to buy from US vendor. Reminder that if you buy from JDM websites, Shimano USA will not service it.
I beg to differ. I’ve had both the 2021 Antares DC and the 2022 Exsence DC and they behave very differently. Keep in mind, this is a completely new DC braking system with new firmware so it’s not the same braking system found in any DC reel to date.

@@seangoff9578 Every reel will blow up if your lure stops abruptly while your spool is spinning at close to max rpm, so it has nothing to do with SV or any other braking system.
