About 10 12 yrs I saw in an Amish farm field stacks of lumber and other bldg supplies. It was for a barn raising. A bank barn. I was fixing my own barn, so I stopped and asked the Amish gentleman about it. He said that he had $90,000 in it as it was, the footers and basement walls done, and the lumber ready for the following day. At least 200 Amish and neighbors showed up to build that barn. Looked to be about 40 x 80 or so, at least 40 ft to the peak. It was raised in one day, ready for use. No labor cost at all. They all worked, visited, ate great food, and for them it was like a vacation. Most stayed all day, maybe 12 to 14 hrs for some. Long comment. My point: you really got a great deal! It looks solid, well done. Congrats. This was even more enjoyable than usual.
I love the comparison between the SUV and the building cost, that was classic. I own a concrete pump business and have been in the industry for 20 years Mike. I don’t want to be a “ you should” but, have you thought about a heated concrete floor in there? It’s a little money up front, but I’ll GUARANTEE you will not be disappointed. You might already be doing it and the video isn’t out yet, but seriously think about it. It’s so worth it and doesn’t cost much at all to run compared to any gas heater or electric heat. It’s the best and most efficient heat source you will ever get. No ugly heaters hanging in the corners of your beautiful garage either kicking on every 15 minutes in the winter with all that noise. All the floor heat needs is warm water and a little circulator pump, very low cost on your end. Good luck and have fun with the new space!!
Thanks for sharing about your cost basis. These things are so helpful for our family trying to get an idea of what to do moving forward on our future building plans.
Good morning from middle NC! We finished our trek to our new home yesterday. Ended our 17-year time in MidMo. Kids and grandkids (and we) are excited! About the barn: Interesting information and pleasantly surprised by the price! Building alone is about $18/sqft, and finished about $30/sqft. Not bad for what you’re getting. It is a pleasant design. I think you’ll like that stone accent, although more wainscoting would have been ok there too. Even the slight pitch change on the porch roof is good. Windows and doors break up the walls nicely. Nice design!
I’ve got $73K into my 40’ X 60’ X 18’ shop (w/ 7 windows, one man door, and a 14’ X 14’ roll up door) in North Idaho, including land clearing (thickly forested), site grading, pole barn building (with sheeted roof for snow load and concrete bedded posts), and concrete (20’ X 60’ is 4” slab and the other half is 6” slab). I’m so excited for the Morgan Family. That doesn’t include plumbing, electrical, insulation, and indoor framing for a bathroom and bedroom).
Floor drains , and inside and out bollards for the garage doors. What a wonderful project. Liked the outside fireplace idea from one of the YT viewers. My back yard neighbor built a good sized pool house with a chimney. Inside and outside fireplace
Our building in Florida was originally built in 1977, it was all metal I beam. It was 40x60 it had 2 end walls with windows that didn't open anymore. It was open in the front and back except for one end that was enclose with an upper storage. Overtime the metal roof leaked one skylight blew out from hurricane Irma. We called the company who put it up to replace the metal that was rusted out and to have new walk doors and roll up doors plus new girts installed where they weren't. They wanted over $80,000. Nope not paying that much. Called another contractor and he was $30,000 cheaper. So what we did was call the first place and order new panels and other parts we needed to do it ourselves. I replaced all the old girts that had rusted out with new pieces. I had to have a buddy of mine who was an electrician to replace the electrical panel with a new one, the building had its own service. One end we just repainted it cause it was in good shape. Opposite end we removed and it wasn't as easy as we hoped it would be. I had some new concrete replaced in the front and back to secure the panels on the bottom. After all this we decided to sell and we bought a house in Missouri out in the sticks not many neighbors. We sold the house quickly and new owners were left with finishing the building. Now here in Missouri we have a 40x65 pole barn with beautiful concrete floor, insulated and I'm installing new LED lights through out and we are happy.
Goodmorning Morgans the building is a better investment then a vehicle and will last a very long time and just think of all your family memories you'll have to enjoy. Another great video and until tomorrow Morgans have a great day
The value to you and your family is what matters a gathering place for family and friends shelter for the equipment, etc... Pole Barns Direct must believe in customer service the way you were talking about it that matters to a lot of people including me. Thank you for sharing your video with us. Hello Hunter. Ed
We built a 32 x 40 garage 18 years ago for around 16000 concrete and all but the next year it all doubled I am so glad we did what we did when we did Its suits ;our need just not bid enough but it works Looks simalar to yours just not as big you will be glad you did it in the years to come
Great summary Mike! The building is money well spent and should easily raise your property value by at least that much. The only downside will be the increase in property taxes but the benefits of that building will make it well worth it. We're all excited to see your family's dream come true!
Great looking building and I like your justification comparison ... I just paid more for a car than I did for 6 ac of land a few years ago. It was a rough bullet to swallow. This building should hold up for a lifetime provide added value for your property over the cost of improvements. It’s awesome you had a great experience getting it constructed.
My pole barn will be done in a couple days. My wife isn’t taking the upgrades I keep talking about very well ( spray foam, finished walls, and etc.). Your comparison with the new vehicle is ammo for me! Thank you!
Wow Mike, that's a great price. It's about $32/sq ft. Including concrete. Considering the issues with materials recently, that's not bad at all. Beautiful design building. God bless you and your family
It is nice that you can get by with pole barns in your area of the country. There are a couple of them in our area but most people around here go with the real buildings. Pole buildings around here have problems with rot, water infiltration, termites, and mice and other varmints,
Hello from Springfield Ohio, nice building. My 40x64 is less than 1 year old and I love it. Amish builders are hard workers and do nice work. Glad I went with the concrete floor as well. It's the only building on my 27 acres of honey suckle so far. My windows are fewer and much higher up, for light only and not for looking in or breaking in. I did a 16x16 patio off the side as well and love have lunch out there watching deer and other wildlife. Glad I found your channel, still love the RK37. Hello HUNTER!
Insulate with closed cell spray foam. I did when I built my shop and I could heat it with some candles, hahaha. Seriously though, here in south Georgia the summers can be brutal. With my three big 10x10 doors open and the outside temperature in the mid 90's to 100, the inside of my shop is about 85. The humidity is still there but a lower temperature. I recently installed a DIY split heat and A/C unit at only 35,000 btu's and it keeps the shop at a very comfortable temp and runs less that my house A/C and my shop is 36x48 with 12ft walls and an open center peak of almost 20 ft. All insulated and drywalled.
You will be glad you added that extra 6’ to the length. No matter how big you make it you always wish you had gone bigger. That will be a fine looking building. Thanks for sharing your personal information.......it’s really none of our business what it costs. But......that’s why you have a successful channel. You are open and honest.
Thanks for being so transparent in the process and the pricing of your new barn. I’m not looking for something of that size, but this video was really really helpful.
Great price ! Here in Lynchburg, Va we just had a 40 x40ft all metal storage building with 14 ft ceiling .Contractor poured concrete slab with ramp for fork truck 1 roll up and 1 pedestrian door. It was bid by 3 contractors for my company (electric utility so hard to get a competitive price ) plus 200 amp panel and 1 ceiling light. Cost $68k
I was expecting it to cost more than that! Not a bad price considering the value it'll add. And hey, if you can afford it, then it's your money to invest however you'd like. I don't think I could justify spending that much on vehicle, but a building that will get a lot of use and pay itself off is a great investment. Can't wait to see it with a pool down the road!!! You guys are creating such a wonderful place to live out there. It will be so worth it one day when you're surrounded by your kids with their kids/families and friends all having a great time enjoying those spaces.
Truly remarkable! I used the same comparison when we dug our pond. We looked at a pickup truck at the Indiana State Fair. The “fair special price” was $48,000. We had a 1 acre pond dug for just under $30,000. We’ll still be enjoying the pond when that truck is a pile of rust. It’s all in what a person sees as a priority I suppose. God bless. Jason from Indiana.
Nice progress & good info. I appreciate you telling us who you contracted with & how well they did. Please ignore the comments saying you are “selling” products - you aren’t. You are evaluating, informing & advising. Thank you for it! Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
Nice job Mr. Morgan , where I live your building and the Ford SUV would be closer to 90K . Build a true pole barn for a sawmill back in 1991 measuring 128 X60 and back then was 60 grand . But then a new Ford 1/2 is in the mid 60's . Still nice expansion for the Morgan Enterprises . Be safe
Mike, I liked how you put the overall cost of the building in comparison with the Ford Expedition. You have a great way of putting things in a proper perspective. You happen to be a person who brings me motivation.
Honestly that is a great price! 2 years ago I had a stand alone, 25'x27' finished garage with a finished second floor and that cost me almost 60K . That was turn key finished but seeing as yours has 3 times the foot print as mine and the outrageous cost of lumber right now, that is a steal ! Congrats and I know you all are gonna love it :)
Hi guys Ed from Rhode Island here, I started watching a few months ago kind because of the name, I have a high school buddy named Mike Morgan go figure..I love both channels and can`t wait to see the hobby barn when it`s done. Hang on to some of the pieces of off cut lumber for projects in the barn like shelving and such i`m sure you`ve seen the price of lumber these days. Well good luck with everything and God bless.
Thank you for sharing, disclosing the cost and contractor. This why I enjoy your channel, your not trying to sell us anything, your reviews are honest, and you are willing to disclose almost everything. Excellent video as always. 20 years ago I purchased an 2000 Ford Expedition for $50K, if I didn't live in a large city I would have preferred a pole barn which would last a life time. Suggestion, when planning for the kitchen in the barn maybe it could be used as a studio kitchen for Melissa and her channel. Stay safe and best to you and your family
I must say one thing. This is a wooden shed, a pole barn. It looks great. I am enjoying watching the build. It is huge, a lot of trusses, expensive sidings etc. It appears good value at the price you have quoted. The one thing I feel I must say is you could have put up a steel construction for the same money. I too love wood, my shed is wood. I built it myself, it is very small in comparison and cost me £2,500 and I already wish I had spent more on the frame. Sidings can be replaced. Roofs can be replaced. The structure can not. Please don't do any dramatic stuff like you did in a previous video to prove that your posts are not rotting. It is only me stating my opinion. I may well be wrong. I hope I am. It is just the way I see it. Great videos, great project. Can't wait to see the next stage. x
I’m glad I was sitting when you said $53K. My heart is racing. That’s wwwwwwway less than I thought it’d be for that beautiful/handsome building. I Want ONE! And actually it’d be just like your color and all with the exception I’d extend that patio roof another twenty feet. I realize of course I’ll need to factor in the cost of the interior, but I’ll not be doing that much. Wow Mike!
Thanks for the Info. It sure validated our choice of Pole Barns Direct to build our shop! We talked to Kyle also. super nice guy, and just full of good experience, brought up all kinds of good suggestions for our building. Great company indeed.......
Your building is looking great Mike. What an awesome space you are going to have there for all your equipment and tools etc. I will be watching to see the finished product. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for being so transparent Mike! That is a really nice building and it will keep that expensive equipment looking new for many years to come. I would take the equipment barn, game room, office, etc over a new car any day. The price for a new pickup truck is comical. Take Care! -JTF
That seems like a bargain price for what you have built. I was very surprised and thought it would have been much more. The best part is the short amount of build time, those guys sure know what they’re doing. I recently built an extension on my shop, took me a year to do. I would never take it on by myself again. Much better to pay up and enjoy. Well done, you are on a winner. Thanks.
Make sure you install 2" rigid Foam x 2' wide under the concrete slab around the interior perimeter of the barn--This is due to the fact that you will be heating the barn. If you don't do this you will get Frost heave in the winter under that slab around the perimeter of the barn
Great continuation with keeping us posted on your project. Kinda wish I saw something like this 8 plus years ago when I built a 50 X 40 footer - didn't make it big enough. Don't watch all of your videos because I don't have that time available to me. With that said - don't know what your doing about heat and you may have already considered this - before concrete floor is poured consider if you want radiant heat, especially for the playroom/office. One other consideration for your patio - set it up to include enclosing it for the cold weather months. You think you won't do it know, but in the future, who knows. Consider for the future the installation of Solar Panels. In your videos it seems that the area where this project is well lit by the sun. I have a 7.5 KW system that was installed some 8 years ago. During that time span my Solar System has produced some 3,000 more KW hours then what I actually used. 3 years go I added another 1.3 KW due to adding air conditioning to house. With incentives and Federal and State Credits available your overall cost is about 1/3 of the cost.
My guess was $50,000 for the building, but I forgot to take into account the concrete. I think it's money well spent. It looks great. Perfect colors. The wainscoting is a great idea. I have a steel building on my property that was already here when I bought the place. 100% of the dents are on the bottom 1/4th of the building from someone probably running into it with the lawn mower. If you can, keep a few of those wainscoting panels on hand so it'll be an easy fix if one happens to get dented.
Great info, Mike. Thanks for sharing, not a lot of people would share those numbers. Definitely helps those of us looking into things down the line. Cheers!
I built a 40x60x16 steel building w/ 3:12 pitch and two 12x13 rollups in 2015 for about $45k - this is insulated. This was in Northern CA. I am glad I did the building then because everything has gone nuts. I had $12k into concrete and prep (did the foundation work myself) and also did the electrical myself. The building was $22k and erection of the building was about $6500. This is not a normal price as I found a steel building erector who made me a deal for about 50% off and I rented the equipment. I had another $1200 in wire. 5 years later I spent $31k on an asphalt driveway that includes a huge 40x30 apron in front of the barn. I put 8000w of solar on one side of the barn myself for about $9k total grid tied. Producing 45-55kwh per day. Very happy with the investment and unfortunately I outgrew it in a few years. I have cars in the driveway again instead of everything stored in shop. Took me about 3.5 years to payoff the balance on personal bank loan (9%) of $25k. Still worth it.
You just built about what I plan to build in a few years. I will be going 16’ high with 14’ doors so I can park any camper I get in the future, I had 40x60 in mind, I like the idea of 72’.
Great video. Very nice of you to share the costs, which you absolutely did not have to do because it’s really none of our business. It will definitely help those in the process of building their own.
That is a nice building, Mike. I appreciate your time and explanation of the process and the cost of purchasing a building like yours. That will be a great place to park all of your tractors and outdoor toys. I'm sure the kids and grandchildren will enjoy that game room for years to come.
The inside work is a good winters project it is your building but I would put some radiant heat in the floor with two zones we use it here in the northeast and our Canadian neighbors use it a lot but you have a nice looking building.
Great video Mike. Thanks for the tutorial and cost. The Ford really puts it into perspective dosen't it....! We enjoy your family and the work you are doing. Good clean entertainment...
You’re going to have a very nice building when it’s finished.Even being incomplete it’s already looking nice. That Expedition for 78,000 will depreciate in value where as your building is an investment.
Great job on all aspects of the pole barn guys! Great design, great contractor and I even love the color. It really helps that you were transparent about the price as lots of us would love to build something similar. I helped a friend build a 30 x 40 and we're pretty handy, but your crew put us to shame! Anxious to see the rest of the project - concrete, heating and finish work!
I keep thinking this would make a great woodworking building. Drive through loading and unloading, great for those rainy or cold days. A double walk in door, into the main woodshop. An office in the center where you plan on putting one Mike, great for video editing and paperwork. Plus, plenty of windows for great natural lighting. Now you tempt me by telling me who is building this awesome space for you. They are in Ohio, and I am in Michigan. Which means it is totally doable. You got me thinking Mike!!! Have A Day!
Mike, you mentioned the rock under the patio, have you considered just using real stone picked up from your property? Cost would only be your time in gathering! And secondly, are you planning on adding a couple translucent sections of roofing to add natural light? Great building and can see your appreciation by how you talk about it!!
I think for the size and how great it's built you got alot for your buck and your getting exactly what you wanted. Sounds like a great company to deal with. Well done Mike 👍
Love the building, just could not afford it.I priced,as we speak,a 30X50 building here in ontario.64000.00 with concrete,no finishing at all.Ended up ordering a steel building kit,17,800.00 canadian, will build it myself.Should be delivered mid november, right in the midst of my deer season, should be a busy month.Right now, with the price of materials here, you need to look at other options.
I am shocked that the cost for that big a building is so reasonable. 18 years ago I had a metal 30 x 60 building installed at a cost of 35 K and that was basically a shell like you have. I’m impressed.
Wow, you got a deal! We have been trying to get a 30x50 shop built here in Western WA and the cheapest quote we got was 75K with a concrete floor and that was before the cost of materials went thru the roof... Hopefully next year we can get started, we need a shop badly! Yours is looking awesome!
I think that's a great deal for the price. Before you mentioned the cost, I said to myself, around $60,000. It's looking great. I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing, Mike. You're a good man.
You’re new building looks fantastic and it went up real fast. I have a building real close to the same size. You should consider putting floor heat in it I absolutely love mine.
Hey I asked you about where you kept your equipment ,,,....probably like a year or two ago. I’m glad to see your plans coming together. Congratulations!! Fine building bro!! 👍👍
Don’t forget to add your excavator rental for the ground work! lol, your exactly right Mike, my new Ford truck was over 60k. The building is a great investment. You must have bought the lumber before this price hike! I priced some 2x10’s and they had went to over 30 dollars each. It’s a bad time to be building!!
@John lombard Depends on where you live. Where I live... nothing rots. But every year that Expedition will depreciate... down to almost NOTHING. That building will actually APPRECIATE...!
Thanks, that answers a ton of questions. That is what I love about things you review, we get to see the product or work and make our own judgement. Looks great. I like the design, build and colors. Wonder if it will pay to purchase a scissor lift for half a year and sell when done. You have a lot of overhead work ahead of you with lighting and ceiling. great time of the year to build. leads right into winter for your inside work.
The building sounds like great investment, much better than the Expedition. You should have many years of fun together. I hope you can figure out a way to keep all the kids living nearby if not at home. I hope there will be enough room for a picture of Stanley in there.
What a beautiful building. Five years ago I had a much smaller(30×50) and it cost about $20k. Other than going bigger the only change I wish I had made would be 6" gutters instead of 5".
Good deal, Mike. Although you hate this.... I have a "You Should" for you. You (maybe) should wrap the 6x6 posts at the end of the patio area with the same stone that you put on the wall at the patio area. It will really *tie the room together!!* [The Big Lebowski]
Wow! That's a good price for that size building. Very impressed with the quality of construction and of course the speed and organization of this company. Top notch for sure. With your sawmill and forest of trees, you should be able to make most of your interior wall treatment and trim, especially for the game and living space. The shop also, but I would guess that would be drywall. Looking good!
too old to start something that big here....but you got a heck of deal on it....will be watching you finish the inside....Congratulations to the Morgans.....
Great building and crew erecting it ! Like the colors also. Also like that you have that one foot overhang.. Overall, I wouldn't change a thing. I know you and your your family will enjoy in the years to come.
I bet they love you picking up the job site for them. Can not wait to see how you do the concrete work. It is a great thing to do it right away. I'm learning a lot
Great video, Mike. Love the comparison with the SUV, but maybe you should have compared it with an Olympic size swimming pool, haha. Melissa will appreciate that, 😀 Love the building and your family will enjoy staying home and still do all their activities, because I don’t believe we will ever go back to the good old days, you know, like, 1st of the year. Take care, stay safe and God Bless y’all. 👍❤️🇺🇸🙏
The building looks great. I hope you don't mind a few questions. Will you insulate the whole building or only the game room? What kind of heating and air will you use? Will you use a drop ceiling in the game room? You have a wonderful family and a great channel.
I know you did all the site prep yourself, but you could also add in the excavator rental and put a price on having to hire that out. I do agree with you, that the building you've purchase is a great value.
I really enjoyed the video Mike. You picked a great company to build your barn for sure! It looks like you will have plenty of room to store some of my stuff! Next time you are in Ohio stop by. Joe
Thanks for sharing Mike you gave a great description. One thing I know about Mennonites and Amish when they show up to work that's what they are going to do. There not there to talk or stand around and drink coffee. I had a Mennonite company build my building and it was just like you described and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for sharing I can feel your excitement and happiness.
Morning Morgan's. $ money well spent. Building will be a game changer and you'll wonder why you didn't build sooner! Thanks for sharing the details. Tell the family hello. Finally getting some rain now that season is over. Have a day! Be safe.
Hi Mike and Mallisa!!😀😀 I was really surprised at the cost of the building. It is definitely increasing the value of your property also. Were a new vehicle only gets worth less every year. It's probably going to take you all winter to get the inside finish off. Take care my friends!!😀😀❤ Logger Al

It is nice that you can get by with pole barns in your area of the country. There are a couple of them in our area but most people around here go with the real buildings. Pole buildings around here have problems with rot, water infiltration, termites, and mice and other varmints,
I also work in the oil and gas field in western pa, thanks for sharing and giving great info in all your videos.
Looks Awesome!! No wonder your all Excited!!👍👊
O man. Great video! Thanks for all the info. No doubt this building boosts the value of your property by like 100K. Who doesn't want that barn.
It's very nice that you shared all of that cost information. It's well appreciated. Thanks, Mike.
Congrats and I know you all are gonna love it :)
dropped 70+ Canastack paseos on a 32X60X12, you are doing GREAT
Hi guys Ed from Rhode Island here, I started watching a few months ago kind because of the name, I have a high school buddy named Mike Morgan go figure..I love both channels and can`t wait to see the hobby barn when it`s done. Hang on to some of the pieces of off cut lumber for projects in the barn like shelving and such i`m sure you`ve seen the price of lumber these days. Well good luck with everything and God bless.
Could not agree more . Mike as I commented before Pole barns direct are fantastic built my 48x36x16 earlier this year.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!!.. concisely done, no nonsense. Straight to the brass tacks!! Love it!
Thanks Mike. Your comparison between the building and a vehicle was brilliant.
Wow Mike!
I'm impressed. Attention to detale is an obviously an important trait for "Pole Barns Direct".
Take Care!
-JTF
That's one fine looking building and you will have many years of enjoyment for the family ...
Thanks.
Really like colors on that building. Thanks for sharing all the details. I would be through the roof excited about this. Well deserved!
Easy to see why you're so happy Mike. Beautiful building.
Good thinking on door height!
The 14 foot height helps with re-sale value.
10 foot tall doors will limit your buyers somewhat.
Great video. Very nice of you to share the costs, which you absolutely did not have to do because it’s really none of our business. It will definitely help those in the process of building their own.
Good morning Mike. Nice looking pole barn. Have a great day.
That is a nice building, Mike. I appreciate your time and explanation of the process and the cost of purchasing a building like yours. That will be a great place to park all of your tractors and outdoor toys. I'm sure the kids and grandchildren will enjoy that game room for years to come.
I really like the building Mike! Fabulous building
Great value! The company Pole Barns Direct did an Awesome job! God Bless the Morgan’s!
👍❤️
The inside work is a good winters project it is your building but I would put some radiant heat in the floor with two zones we use it here in the northeast and our Canadian neighbors use it a lot but you have a nice looking building.
Mike:. That is a steal!!!! Besides the function of the building, the joy and fun your family will have in it for years to come is priceless. 👏🤠👍
Thanks for answering the questions about things as you go along!! Still digging into the channel, but love learning all the things watching!!
Make sure you install floor drains. I didn't when I built mine 20 years ago and have regretted it ever since.
Have a Day
Great video Mike.
I go shooting near Pole Barns Direct almost weekly...that's right in my neck of the woods
The building looks very nice. It's a great investment you will enjoy for many years to come.
Great video Mike, this will help a lot of people. I like the comparison to the SUV, the building is definitely money well spent!
That Expedition would last maybe 10 -15 years, the bar will be there for grandson Ty to work out of. Great investment 👍🏻
10-15...?? Not a chance. Unless you get them drilled and oil under coated every year and only drive it 10k/yr. Nothing is made to last anymore sadly.
Thank you Mike for doing this video. All the videos that you and Melissa do for that matter, I watch them all.
Just the bottom 4ish feet, like the wall... :-)
Money well spent. That’s a great looking building. 👍👍👍❤️
Will be putting up a 40x80x16 shop/kennel been back and forth when you put it in aspect with the new car it put me over the edge pulling the trigger!
Have a day! Be safe.
Mike, Thanks for sharing. I was planning on getting Steel building, but now Like Cosmo Kramer said Giddyup, I will call this company.
Hi Mike and Mallisa!!😀😀
I was really surprised at the cost of the building. It is definitely increasing the value of your property also. Were a new vehicle only gets worth less every year.
It's probably going to take you all winter to get the inside finish off.
Take care my friends!!😀😀❤
