    40 looks scary over England

    • @jimskirtt5717
      @jimskirtt5717 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's the idea - it's why they paint the picture of England in dark red, and it's why they put a darkened photo of a masked nurse staring at the camera on the sides of buses. It's called The Politics Of Fear. It's intentional to scare you, and it's done all the time. It's why they put tanks at Heathrow when terrorism was at a high (utterly pointless). It's all done to scare you, and with you and people like you, it works. Ask yourself how many global scares there have been in the past 30 years - bird flu, mad cow disease, ozone hole, global warming... How many people have died from these global outbreaks?

    Don't leave children or pets in the car, even for a moment.
    Leave out water for pets and wildlife. Birdlife will also struggle in 35-40C temps and water will assist their survival
    Bring your pets inside.
    Stay hydrated.
    Advice from Australia

    Urban heat island effect is most pronounced at night when all the built environment surfaces radiate out the heat accumulated during the day. There is also less atmospheric mixing at night to convect this heat away from the surface.

      That's why I don't sleep until the morning or camp outside. It's actually cooler to sleep in a tent outside than to be stuck in a building radiating heat until 3am

  • @EventDogs
    @EventDogs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Dogs - please remember that no dog died from missing a walk but many have died from walks in hot weather. Most people are sensible enough to know that dogs die in hot cars, but actually 72% of heat related deaths are from dogs being exercised in hot weather. My dogs are either walked about 6am when it's cooler or on days when it's still too hot then, they will not be walked at all. Yes, I'm a dog trainer and I'm saying for the next few days unless it's cool at 6am, do not walk your dog. (They'll probably be too hot to want to do much but if they are pestering for 'activity' you can use their daily food to put into kongs, licky mats, or even better, hidden around the house etc. as nose work tires them out mentally and makes them more likely to settle.) Also, remember wildlife and put shallow bowls of water out for them. 🙂

    After watching BBC weather forecasts for over 40 years, seeing 40C on the map is rather alien.
    It’s up there with Jan 1987 and Feb 1991 with snow and -7 daytime maxes as a historic extremity.
    Rather interesting of note is that the max temp record could potentially be broken yet again. 2003, 2019 and now 2022 is definitely a trend of a warming climate in Britain.

      What you did there (whether you're aware of it, or not) is called obfuscation. There has been no change in UK average temperatures in summer for the last 367 years. This is the Met Office's own data. The UK's temp has risen...but not summer's. A one-off, like this week is called weather.

    Must say - my bungalow is very well insulated - and that actually makes it much cooler in the day when it is hot like this (although I suspect it traps the heat in the roof insulation and releases that slowly overnight).
    Keeping curtains shut helps, but on the continent they have shutters on the outside because they don't trap heat. But curtains are better than no curtains - a bit like desert people have several layers of cloth to keep their body cooler than the outside temps (or at body temperature at least). White clothes also help to keep one cooler. Very lightweight materials like silk, bamboo and hemp allow the skin to breathe - and perspiration evaporates faster off those (which also helps cooling if there's even the slightest wind).

    Give us a fear break, that's warm but NOT hot. If it was reaching 40 that would be hot! Silly over reaction colours on the charts too to make you think the whole of the uk is burning up! Ridiculous.

      Wasn't a silly overreaction and the colours on the chart was spot on, i lost someone close to me because of them few days off extreme heat, lets hope it doesn't happen this year.

    It will be bad for our lives as well now we all need to use sun cream to get some ice cold drinks for our people to see what is going on with our advice about the heat conditions for our own health
