- During the first drive Imran said the car felt a bit flat to him, and having driven hundreds of different E9x M3's over the years he tends to have a pretty good feel for them.
So before we get started, lets put the car on the dyno and see just how much power its making!

WOW, For 152K miles, it did really well, shows how good these cars are when they are looked after
3hp crank drop after 152k miles. Thats incredibly impressive and shows how strong S65s are with maintenance.

This is awesome, my E90 M3 has 151k and I changed the spark ⚡️ plugs about 5k a go and noticed a big difference! Now I know why!

Given the mileage, it is extremely impressive for such a high strung engine to be producing virtually factory quoted HP figures.
So interesting explaining the relationship between ignition settings and power made, and what difference such a simple change makes.
I'm actually surprised that such a drop in ignition timing on the top end (10* almost) didn't result in much more of a power drop.
Props for the less tangible aspects of your channel. No unnecessary footage, good music, clear info and a dope intro.
Thanks for showing the timing...love the detail you guys give and it's good to see a "seemingly" well taken care of high mileage S65 can still produce strong power! Makes me feel much better about having my E90 & E92 S65's!

Another great video Imran , Plugs make a world of difference, especially after 40k miles, I have a 32 yr old Volvo and it was sluggish and so i did an oil change with plugs, rotor , distributor cap and air filter with a fresh tank of 97 RON fuel CDN GAS SUCKS , i didn't gain any power it just ran smoother and i now get almost 50 more miles to a tank of gas, so it was beneficial and it all cost less than $ 100 🏎

🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻👏🏻 Considering that this car is supposed to come with about 400hp from factory, on paper, and also with 40 NM of torque, this 150 mile e92 M3 Still got it, and is probably in pretty good shape, Awesome video. the spark plugs made such a difference.
It's actually 420HP. so it only lost ~10HP at the most.
@@hojnikb could be because of the piston rings ,the wear after that mileage
@@naimjacobs2372 most likely, yes. Or just slight dyno error, these things aint 100% perfect.

I would definitely be interested in the 102 octane comparison, having used it during my last 2 trips to Germany. My car felt much stronger after an extended run on the autobahn.
I predicted 398 earlier today and mentally after the spark plug change
406, so 411 was a bit of a surprise, I suppose the bottom line is that if one spark plug gets oiled up you need to keep an eye on it

I confirm no correlation between mileage & power for this car. I had my second e92 m3 with +100k miles and it feels more powerfull than the 1st own (low mileage 30k miles)
I also loved the EDC option in daily (I sold my old one because has too "harsh" suspensions)

Great video! I just checked and mine were done by BMW at 157k miles (at least, the invoice says they were done...), otherwise, I would have ordered a set straight away!

Excellent video, to the point and detailed information. Would be interesting to see the AFR's from both runs as well.
AFR before and after was the same as the ECU is targeting a certain value, so is adjusting fuelling as necessary.
@@EvolveAutomotive How many maps does the S65 have for fuelling ? A couple of part throttle closed loop and a WOT fixed value map ?
@@simonhanlon7518 It also has ITBs, so that complicates maps a bit too, since low load/throttle will get inaccurate data from map (not sure how it is with MAFs).
@@hojnikb True it has ITBs but all 8 share a common plenum and it doesn’t have a MAF, I’m pretty sure it’s Alpha N with map compensation . I’m just curious as to why timing is closed loop ( plug monitored ) at WOT if the fuel is a fixed value . There shouldn’t be any need to vary the timing if the mixture is fixed .
@@simonhanlon7518 I'm surpised that a modern engine like S65 doesn't use MAF, but i'm sure there's good reason for doing so.
As for timing at WOT; plenty of reasons why you want to still adjust timing. Bad fuel, high IATs, poor plugs etc...

There is a detailed video on our channel about the intake including datalogs and dyno. The plenum doesn't make any power and has never been advertised as doing so.
So this car is only 3 bhp down on quoted power after 152k? Amazing! So much for internet so called experts who say these usually only make 380-390 !!!

Awesome! This is amazing data and I've got very interested in this evidence. Spark plug is crucial parts for engine performance isn't it. As far as I know BMW recommends spark plug must be changed every 37kmiles. What is your recommendation for spark plug change interval?
If wanting peak performance every 10k miles
Question! What do you use to log ignition timing and the knock table?
And can high mileage ignition coils also rob power on the S65?
Do you service and check normal everyday BMWs like 320i? Issues with one so need to get it sorted.
By the way what device do you use to measure the spark plugs degrees? Thanks in advance

Great video! Shops around my area were asking 400-500 for spark plug changed! Ridiculous anyways seeing a few videos and especially this ones confirms its not that hard of a job except the 2 far back plugs in the back near firewall! Nice video I have a high milage m3 as well looking forward to more content!!! Would u change the coil pack in the e92 or just wait for It to fail??? The 200 price per coil is draining on the wallet lol Thanks!
We aren’t changing the ones on this car unless they fail.
