  • In this tutorial I will show you how to replace your JBL charge 3 pre 2016 model battery. Serial number starting with "TL".
    This JBL made a crackling sound at high volume, this in combination with the dimming of the lights I decided to change the battery. Which was the solution in this case.

    This guide was super useful for me! I tried following other manuals but was failing to open the case. It's only from this video I learned that my speaker was actually the older model with some differences and I was able to go through the whole process pretty easily. Now my JBL has a new battery. Thank you very much!

    4:00 A word of WARNING... when you get to the clear inner battery cover screws, if the battery is VERY swollen you might want to unscrew each screw a little at a time in a rotation, because I just tried to fully unscrew each of them one at a time and when I got the first 3 screws out the plastic cracked near one of the still-in screws because the swollen battery pushed out the cover.
    Also not only did I check that the red and black wires are on the correct sides, I ALSO checked with a multi-meter to make sure that the polarity MATCHED the colors (red should be the battery voltage and black should be ground).

    This guide is amazing, my Charge 3 had stopped holding charge after not being used for a while.
    Sure enough the battery was swollen. New battery installed and its been working perfect all day.

    Nice walkthrough.
    I had zero problems following this. If you're on the fence about fixing your speaker, then don't worry, because I'm not very good at things like this.

    Finally found your video that was the correct pre-2016 model! All the other ones were driving me crazy because most everything was the same except the end with the battery connection unscrews differently...Thanks.

      You're welcome,
      It is very confusing indeed. I also only found out later that 2 models of the charge 3 have been put on the market. luckily you can tell by the serial number.

    Perfect directions- easy to follow - and my speaker is back to normal! I found the screws much more difficult to remove than on the video, but everything was spot on! Thanks for the help 🙂

    Thank you so much for this, it was supportive to have you there with me when I couldn't get some of the screws out! ha! 5 screwdrivers later and using an elastic band on the ones where the thread had worn off, I got there! The bass is back in my life wahoo!

    I have a post 2016 model, yet this was very helpful. I managed to replace the battery and it works fine. But do pay attention to the wires. Mine were reversed. A very fine tip screwdriver i managed to switch them around. And measure with a meter if all is good. Thanks this was a good video.

      Which battery wires should you swap if you have the wrong battery? Glad you could still use that battery.

    • @Roads_of_Europe
      @Roads_of_Europe 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SpareTimeWorkshop The battery is the same pre 2016 or post 2016. The black wires are the negative and red wires are the positive. I changed them around. Just leave the white wire in place. Both red wired are internally connected with each other, so no matter how you connect those. Same with the black wires, internally connected with each other. Just swap them around and you are good to go.

      The battarij puts quite a lot of force on it. A tip I have been given to avoid breaking the cap is to loosen all the screws evenly.
      If you can't get the screws loose, a screwdriver with a thicker handle will help.

    Was the blue battery used in the post 2016 video a 7000mAh battery and the one for the pre-2016 mode (this video) a 6000mAh?
    Online it says they come with 6000mAh, but I assume a larger battery, given the voltage is the same, wouldn’t do anything besides give it a longer working time.

    • @SpareTimeWorkshop
      @SpareTimeWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are both 6000mAh. In fact I borrowed the replacement battery in this video from a post 2016 JBL. In many cases it is the exact same battery.

    hello! great video. when i was following though, I realized the red and black wires were not in the same position as the original battery. they were in the reverse side. can you tell me what i should do in this case? this battery is difficult to obtain in my country so i cannot replace it. is it possible to reverse the connector so that the wires are the right direction?

    • @SpareTimeWorkshop
      @SpareTimeWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you,
      I would exchange the battery for a good one just to be sure.
      You would think you can swap the wires. only it's hard to say if everything will work fine. Because I don't know how the battery is wired inside.
      If you do want to swap the wires, be very careful not to make a short circuit.
      I don't recommend trying it
      If you do try it let me know how it went

    Is it the battery that make it sound cracking

    • @SpareTimeWorkshop
      @SpareTimeWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it could be the battery. but it could also be one of the speakers.
      indications of a bad battery:
      -the JBL does not fully charge.
      -the battery is swollen
      -the lights flicker when the JBL makes a crackling sound.
      indication of a broken speaker.
      -play a stereo test video on your JBL to test the left and right speakers separately. If only one side sounds bad, it's probably a broken speaker.
      Also check your aux port for contamination.

    1st wanna thank you for this video of yours, its really neat and easy to follow. I have a question, my jbl charge 3 was the exact same pre 2016 TL code, what can i do if I already bought the post 2016 GG code battery?? I heard it has a different battery socket connector between pree and post 2016 model. Please I really need master enlightment 🙏

    • @SpareTimeWorkshop
      @SpareTimeWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome. I haven't quite figured out about the different batteries yet the battery I put in this JBL is also from a post 2006 JBL.
      The most important thing is the location of the 2 red and black wires and the type of connector, these should be the same as your old battery.
