This is fascinating. I just got one of these and my very mechanical and engineering minded 4 year old mildly autistic son is OBSESSED with it. He loves it and really wanted to see how it works on the inside. Thank you. He will be so happy.
lovely feedback thank you, when I was a child I was also curious to see whats inside gadgets so I broke a lot but now I know how to open them and close them too 😊 would be nice if you subscribe you will be my first lady subscriber 😅
It's a 2-way speaker of a dual passive radiator design. That's the key to getting big sound out of tiny enclosures. The passive radiator have metal weights and the inertia of the weights provide the damping that the drivers need. The battery is just a triple pack of 18650 batteries which seem to all have their own leads to the board.
They used some cheap 2500mah cells tho. But atleast that means its easily upgraded to some better batteries, like the Panasonic ncr 3400mah ones. 10200mah instead of 7500mah is a big diffrence.
I have been down this road. I have spent, with no exaggeration, at least 50 hours in total looking into what is the difference. Ok, I'll sum it up as quickly as I can. JBL has 2 manufacturing companies. One in China and the other in Vietnam. The ones made in China use inferior parts in comparison to Vietnam however it really depends on what kind of sound you want. China's has better highs, sometimes too high for the average listener, and the ones from Vietnam have better lows. Now I'm not saying that there is a huge difference but if you listen to r&b rap reggae you would most likely go with the ones from Vietnam. If you like rock, jazz etc you would most likely want to go with the ones from China. OR do what i did. I got one gray ND, Vietnam, and one dark blue TT from China. The sound that I got was truly unbelievable. I had the best of both. Keep in mind this was back in June of 2023. The original ND was the one to go for if you wanted bass but the mids and highs suffered so they updated it and made the NT (Vietnam). If you care about having parties IN the rain or IN the pool then the Chinese ones have better waterproofing. You can look at the box and tell where it's made I believe. If not then it's DEFINITELY on the inside where the charging port is on the rubber seal (inside). I hope this helps anyone who is looking to buy. Also, keep in mind that if you have the money you can buy several and check them out for yourself. Most places have a 30 day return policy. At the end of the day after going NUTS I got 2. Something else, I put two on each side of me in my living room each one about 1 feet apart and when the sound hit the wall directly behind me it reflected to the front of the room. I could have sworn that there was a 3rd speaker in the middle. Watching movies and playing games sounded immersive. Like 3D. BTW, the colors don't matter. They used to help determine which speaker came from where but nowadays there's black ND's where it used to be all TT TL etc. Don't hold me to this but I'm thinking that the N's are vietnamese and the T's are chinese. My work is done here. ✌️
Incredible teardown! It was extra neat that you plugged the amplifier of the little Bluetooth speakers into some real floor standing speakers, so cool!
@@defnotatroll If you havent heard one of these in person, it really is amazing how much sound it can produce. Easily reaches max volume Id want to listen at in a mid sized room. Just not deep enough extension to be a perfect speaker.
Once you understand the physics of sound production you'll quickly realise how little power a speaker needs at sufficient listening volume. If you look at sensitivity ratings, 1 watt of power is enough to produce close to 90dB of sound... Louder than a garbage disposal truck at work. Then comes the logarithm nature of sound vs power where you need to double the power to get to 3dB louder and quickly get to the diminishing returns of amplifier power ratings
I watched this listening through the exact same JBL Charge 5, had mine for 4 months now and I absolutely love it, the sound is amazing and the battery lasts forever.. even after it had charged my dead mobile phone too! Thanks for the teardown, saved me doing it eventually lol
Seeing you hook this up to the Warfendale tower speaker was an epic event! I was so excited, I called my wife over to watch this feat happen. One of the most amazing things you could ever expect to see from a bluetooth speaker.
Mine dropped and When the bass comes on it sounds rattling took it apart took speaker out and when the speaker is out sounds fine but once you set the speaker it's vibrating like it's blown can you buy those little subspeakers?
Thats basically how i started building my own boxes: take broken bluetooth speaker boards and reuse them. But very powerful. Didnt expect the amp to power the other box that well
I can see my self buying two of these and then disassembling the speakers and connecting each one to a Kicker motorcycle 2 channel speaker pod that has no amp built in and then adding it to my electric kick scooter. This was the best Teardown video i have ever seen. I am subscribed now.
What a great teardown and re-assembly! Such useful info and tests, plus frankensteining the Charge 5 to the large speaker was quite entertaining and telling. Thanks!
Did the Same with my Old Charge 3, Now i have a 45Watt (Car) speaker in a Scratch Pole Box for Cats, what is Mobile and Has Bluetooth. Incredible sound out of this Frankenstein haha
Those JBL speakers are impressive with their powerful bass response, I was also impressed to see that the audio amplifier in the speaker was able to drive that tower speaker, probably wouldn't be a good idea to leave that speaker connected to it for a long period of time as it would fry the output stage of the audio amplifier.....
as long as the impedance of the Wharfedale matches the impedance of the Charge driver, it doens't matter if you connect a small amplifier to a very large speaker, you won't fry the amplifier. It just won't get maximum power out of the large speaker.
Yes, you are right, doesn't matter how big or small the speaker that you connect to that amp is, as long as the impedance is matched to it, yo won't have issues......
Nice to know the batery can be replaced fairly easily, and with better components. Also, maybe disconnecting the USB charger, and waterproofing the compartment, I don't think that part is waterproofed.
mine just stopped charging and i just made sure everything was secure and now it's charging. wish i would've seen this 3 months ago but im so grateful i figured it out. i defintely cannot afford to get another one
When it comes to quality audio with ample watt hours, jbl is exceptional with affordable prices. Running off 3x 18650s it’s insane how long this small speaker can deliver crisp sound for hours on end. I believe some version in the past had dual (stereo) drivers and I’m looking to purchase it but I still couldn’t be happier with my jbl charge 4 (6 years old with thousands of hours played and hundreds of recharges) and never once had ANY issue with it. I’ve found myself wanting more but not from a lack of performance from my jbl charge 4, but wondering what is the best they can do. If anyone knows what version comes with dual (stereo) drivers, please reply!!
I thought this was a regular tear down video, but after you powered that Warfdale tower, and you used the Hifi player, I'm so impressed! You have way more knowledge about what you're doing than I initially expected to come across, and I hope your channel grows and gains more recognition! You've really earned my subscription today. Nah the white and yellow wire are for a 10k ohm thermistor that monitors the battery pack temperature. If the temperature of the battery gets too hot, it will shut down for safety purposes.
Great sound and deep base, I moved my echo plus in the the master bathroom with dots in all of the other rooms inside my 1600sq home.
