    I've saved this video to my "replace battery" playlist since 2 years ago. However, it's only today that I managed to purchase the OEM battery directly from China and apply your tutorial. Thank you so much for this helpful knowledge! You saved me $100 from having to get official JBL service in my country.

    We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning th-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

    Thank you, sir! I followed your video instructions and successfully replaced the battery. One difference I noticed was that there was a peel-and-stick rubber gasket under the battery cover. It was connected to a circular gasket on the battery itself. I carefully lifted the gasket off, stretching it in the process, so it didn’t quite fit as well when I put it back on. I’d suggest cutting the two points where the round part on the battery attaches to it, and leaving the rectangular piece in place when replacing the battery.

    The battery’s are all the same the different is the power and ground leads. Have no fear! I realize the power an ground are backwards on my battery so I just flip the wires one at a time. There is a little tab holding the pin in lift it up with tweezers an pull the wire out of the connector an repeat start with the out side an work your way in. White wire stays An boom your polarity is now flipped! An your batter will charge. The battery an connectors are all the same. It’s the wires that are flipped on the old an new style or revision. Great video helped me take my speaker apart. Amazon 15$ battery 2000mah bigger then the original same size.

    Thanks a lot for your video. I was upset because that battery is very delicate. I dropped Jbl a couples of times and the battery charge started to drop very fast. You made it easy and clear. You made me save a lot of money and I still have my speakers working. Great job! 👍🏻

    Hi! Great tutorial! I used your video to disassemble. Once I got to the adapter, I noticed an exposed place in the small red cable, due to the right wrap. the exposed wire was touching the circuit board. I wrapped it with some electricians tape, re assembled, and I’m good to go! Without your help, I’d probably have not gotten that far. Thank you!

    The "cover" on the side is more than just that. It is a resonator, which enhances the bass reproduction immensely. The membrane is driven by the bass speaker on the other side and the air tight chassey.

    Great video! This made it so easy for me to complete the repair. And a random observation... I wonder how the heck JBL designed the subwoofer to work. Where is it, since the ends aren't even speakers? Playing music with the end cap off sounds terrible and as soon as the cap is put back on, it sounds great again. What kind of voodoo magic is this? LOL

    cant believe the timing of this upload! my JBL last week started to charge fully till all 5 lights are white & stop flashing, but it only works for around 45mins then it dies :( I guess that's the battery is it?? had it for some 7-8 years, always let it run down to the red light before charging it up.the sound as you say is amazing-I use it with Ipad2 so not even worth talking about how much it is an upgrade in the single Ipad2 speaker to this super little device! thanks for the timely upload & showing how easy it is to replace the battery

    • @ChilledPI
      @ChilledPI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, mine was the same. It must be about 5 years old I guess. It started holding less charge and shutting down earlier for like a month. Then, it just stopped taking a charge completely. I've tried a JBL Charge 3 - and really I think the Charge 2 + still sounds better - so it was worth a new battery swap ! I swapped iPhone and iPad batteries too when they get older and fail the same - and this swap is so much easier than those ;)

    • @ChilledPI

      and as an added bonus - I just realised now that my Google Home Mini must have had a firmware update since my JBL failed. So now it streams music (even Spotify) from GHM to JBL via BlueTooth with no more stuttering !!!!! Woohoo .... a pity I bought that Chromecast Audio to make it work instead. Time for a new video post ;)

    I must have a different revision, mine was quite simple to disassemble compared to yours, I only needed to remove the back grille nor did I need to remove the driver end cap, once I unscrewed the battery cover and removed the battery the plug was easily accessible to a circuit board in the top of device.

      thanks - hope its of some use. I still have the old one here in the drawer - with an old iPad one. Once I get a couple more I'll drop them off at the local battery specialist store (All Batteries in my case) - they have a battery recycle bin. Most specialist battery stores do - even a few cell phone stores have a bin. Our local council might - but I know the trucks don't collect them and separate them...

    I got the Hixson battery like yours, but only had to take off one cover, the battery was in a black plastic box/pack kind of thing with cable plug directly in body cavity. However during the process a tiny little gasket around that opening was torn apart so I had to toss it. Was that for the water resistance, will it matter? Good video and very helpful.

    Hey! Excellent Vid thank you so much for your time uploading it! I'm on my second JBL Charge 2 Plus and again after about 18 months the battery is depleting after only less than an hour playing! JBL changed my first one to a new Charge 3 but I didn't like it (sound seemed inferior to the 2) sold it and eventually found a new Charge 2 plus. More than happy to buy a replacement batt this time! After dismantling according to your instructions I found the battery in a 'box holder' not under the plate as in yours and it plugs into the board directly underneath so I don't have to take an end of (always good). The Battery model, voltage, rating is exactly as yours except it has an 'R' after the GSP No. Do you know if the replacements are the same size as in mine goes into box to hold it yours just drops in under the white plate. The white connector is also identical to yours! Thanks again great 'How do' Video :)

      the battery I bought for mine was actually advertised as a "GSP1029102R". But the AliExpress store I bought it from (HIXON) show detailed enough pics in the listing so I could tell it was the correct version polarity-wise. A good example of a good listing with a great pic of the connectors and cables is this one ..... www.aliexpress.com/item/33023238848.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.1d084158jKuZZV&algo_pvid=369ae40e-e2f5-4842-9ccf-d1eb21d5464c&algo_expid=369ae40e-e2f5-4842-9ccf-d1eb21d5464c-25&btsid=0bb0624616008259839314161e5fac&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

    Hi. I have a JBL charge2+ too. Its 3 years old, and its working only while it is plugged. What is the expected lifespan of this type of JBL? Does it worth to buy a new battery or a new JBL?

    • @ChilledPI
      @ChilledPI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got about 4 years from mine before it failed, about that same as my iPhone before it needed a new battery too. Well for me - it was worth doing - the replacement battery was around 20% of the cost of a new JBL .... and the 2+ sounded better than the Charge 3 when I last compared them.

    • @evelynwalker1998
      @evelynwalker1998 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JBL Charge 3 is bigger, has the same battery 6000mAh capacity but it is a 20 Watt output unit, 5 Watts more than the Charge 2+. So expect less music time at max. volume. The new Charge 4 has 7300mAh with 30 Watts it's even bigger and weighs 50% than the Charge 2+. The only annoying thing on the Charge2+ is the sound delay when watching a video, hopefully the new ones don't have that!

    lol my battery is exactly the same as yours was so headed off to search for it, £140 just for the battery was the 1st thing I clicked on! don't suppose you could list the place you got your new battery from? i'm in the uk so a uk seller would be cheaper ofc

    • @ChilledPI
      @ChilledPI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh wow - for that price you could buy 1 or 2 new JBL's. Like most tech things now - you can buy cheap with slower delivery (from China usually) or cost more, locally (so faster delivery). I had to get mine off AliExpress from China - and waited 3 weeks for delivery (but I was really in no massive hurry so that was ok). I only use AliExpress when I can't get elsewhere - as it takes time - and I never store my CC details there.
      If you search for Charge 2 Plus or the battery part number you'll get a few results (say www.aliexpress.com/af/jbl-charge-2-plus-battery.html?SearchText=jbl+charge+2+plus+battery ) - you'll then see there are a few similar part numbers they list them under (like I said - there's 2 revisions). Most are around the US$20 mark - but - check the delivery cost as they all will vary.
      The one I ended up buying (may or may not have the same red vs black polarity as yours) was - www.aliexpress.com/item/GSP1029102R-for-JBL-Charge-2-Plus-Charge-2-charge-3-6000mAh-Li-Polymer-Replacement-Battery-pack/32920680905.html ( A Hixon brand one)..
      Good luck :)

    • @ChilledPI
      @ChilledPI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you have the wrong replacement battery (the polarity is wrong on the connector - as seen by the red and black cables are reversed) - you need to return the wrong battery and buy the correct, matching battery. Li-ion batteries are dangerous if you mistreat or misuse them. They can overheat, catch fire or explode.

      @@aleksandartripkovic4583 i have opened the original green battery by cutting the green wrap and inside are two silver cells.. unless inside every 'sausage' are two cells that's what there is.. my battery has swelled so the two silver cells are puffed so i don't think there's anything other than one cell in each packet..
      i have unfortunately ordered the wrong model with reversed polarity, that's whu i open the old batt to see how it is wired.. i have changed the polarity of the new batt by swapping the wires on the conector however and it workes however there mus be some other issue as it doesn't charge the battery and i get some bad noise pulsing through the speakers.. it was doing the same after the original batt died.. i think i left it too long not realizing the batt was swolen and something else broke.. :(
      i guess you wouldn't know how to bypass the batt so i can just leave it plugged in without it.. ?

      @@SubcultureUnlimited Sorry man first of all my English level is not so good so I can't understand you well.. I don't have this kind of bluetooth speaker, I have some other I was just curious what is inside that cell. So if that battery is 3.7V and 6000 mAh and you say there are two cells inside it, so it need to be 2X 18650 of 3000 mAh connected in parallel. 18650 cells is sized lenght 65 mm and diameter 18 mm so if this dimensions are then it is 18650 li-ion cells inside. You can buy it and replace in original battery wraping don't need to buy a
      whole battery, only new 18650 ones .. vruzend.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/30q.jpg
      You can check polarity on battery just need a multimeter and
      needle ( becouse probes are to thick to fit inside ), don't need to open it.
