I wonder if he's ever been to Barcelona? Because that's the most quintessential Barcelonian intersection ever! I said Barcelona literally within a second. Still though, no way I was ever getting some of his other guesses so still very impressive.
9:37 that blue white blue license plate is the old style New York one. Those stopped getting made over a decade ago, but if someone had a car a while, they still could have the old one.
Re Barcelona. @@Brigister i've also visited Barcelona once, I haven't been on that exact street, but the moment I entered the round I immidately knew it was Barcelona. Absolutely this! How you can see those corner cuts and not have them 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 "Barcelona" at you, I don't know. Yes! I was basically SCREAMING at the screen as soon as he did a full 360 in Barcelona, I knew IMMEDIATELY it was Carrer de Sardenya! I worked as an au-pair there and took the kids out to parks nearby and stuff and therefore walked there a lot. The store now being Lipecar (13:50) was called "Video Bum" back in the day right? And was a movie rental place xD And the kids I took care of lived in the orange house shown at 14:34. Also the bridge seen in the background at the same timestamp was the place my taxi driver had to make a U-turn because I pointed out he drove too far the time I arrived in Barcelona. What a coincidence this placement was, holy crap!
TIP!!! The yellow and black cabs are always Barcelona. Also that flag is the cataluñan independence flag, also those bins are typical for Barcelona. And when you see those racks of white and red bikes, that’s also a clear indication you’re in Barcelona, same goes by checking the pedestrian walk floor, if you see little squares or a “flower” pattern that’s Barcelona.
There is no town called Levante. That's just a word the Spanish use to refer to their east coast. Similar to the 'Levant' being an English word for the land at the eastern end of the Mediterranean. The football team with that name is based in Valencia.
I thought the same thing! and he kept saying "I dont get barcelona vibes"... it was also the easiest one to pinpoint, because you only have to look at half the streets because they are one way, so it was easy to find.

One thing that sometimes helps me roughly estimate where on the planet I am is looking at the satellite tv dishes. They always point towards the equator, and the higher up they point, the closer to the equator you are. If a satellite is pointing almost directly up, east or west, you're on the equator. If it looks like its pointing into the ground, you're in northern parts of Canada, Scandinavia, Iceland, etc. Sometimes it can help distinguishing north/south US, US/Canada, or third world countries. I noticed that in one location you struggled a bit, even though you knew you're either in the US or Canada. At one point you had a clear view of an offset dish pointing up under an angle similar to the ones you use in the UK, hinting that it's at a similar distance from the equator

The white with blue at the top and bottom is an older New York plate design. New plates are the yellow design but there are still a lot of the old ones too.
Just to let you know in case you didn’t already, your straight line across Wales series has been watched by some of the Sidemen, mentioned it in their latest video. You legendary specimen x
Got 5,000 points on the first one: travelled a bit and found a website that said .lv. I zoomed in on Latvia and kept travelling until I found a sign that had the name of a city on it. I found the city and traced back the motorways to get to the town/city you start in. Found a building I saw while travelling and retraced my steps. :)
My friend and I were playing this and he pulled a chad maneuvre and guessed Madeira once I said it was portugal (building colors and blue/yellow on plates, and also the bike lanes), and he thought it was too tropical for the mainland.
Feeling pretty robbed on the first round... in my game I spawned one click back from where Tom did. There was a tree blocking the cultural centre text on the building, and more importantly I was too far away to make out the LV on the next storefront. All I could see really was the same storefront he looked at first and thought Romania. Given I couldn't see the LV I read that text and ended up going Romania... even double checked that afterwards and sure enough when I click on the flag it takes me to street view one click back from where Tom was.
A tip for the next rounds that seems to be in Spain: 1)Levante is not a city; its an area of Spain that englobes all the East and South-East of the country so don´t get mad looking on the map for a city called Levante. 2) In Barcelona the taxis have a peculiar colour wich is black and yellow so if you see one taxi/car with those colour you must go straight on to Barcelona. 3) Even though the most known flag is the catalonian or independent catalonian flag there are 3 more flags from differents regions that also have the yellow and red stripes (Aragón, Comunidad Valenciana and Mallorca). There are more tips for the different parts of the country which I´ll be willing to answer if anyone wants to know. Greeting from a Spanish fan and best of luck on your next trip
Round 1- same as in video 5000 Round 2- Knew it was southern france thanks to the palm tress and language. Looked for the hotel in marseille and montpellier city centre until i finally found it in nice 5000 Round 3- I was ready to give up but then thanks to the license plate video i remembered the yellow number plater are from new york. So i decided to look for the street names in middle sized ny towns. Looked in alabny for a few min then looked in syracuse and found the corner. Very lucky round! 5000 Round 4- immediately recognised barcelona as ihad been there before. The buildings, cab and flag confirmed it for me. Looked for the street name for a couple secs and quickly found it as it was in the center 5000 Round 5- No idea, got an italian vibe and saw the see in the south so i looked for a football pitch that correlates in naples. 680 SO CLOSE if only the last round had any clues i would have had a perfect score of 25000. Cant believe i still got a lower score than you even though i got 2 more perfect scores than you, very frustrating game!
La vanguardia is a Spanish newspaper and levante is the name of the general region of the east coast of Spain, not a city in particular. The football team is based in Valencia
Great content on your channel, that's pleasant mate! Hi from Lausanne! For next time, you can easily recognize the streets of Barcelona thanks to its typical urban plan; the blocks of buildings with truncated corners. This is the Cerdà plan :)
I think walking across the Isle of Man in a straight line would be a good idea. A nice mini challenge that you could probably do in one or two days. You could probably get the footage uploaded a lot sooner than within a few months, too.
My only big failure this game was on the 2nd round when I saw a combination of yellow license plates and French, and instantly went for Luxembourg. Wish I knew about the yellow license plates in southern France before you said it lol. I didn't get Funchal either but I'm not really familiar with that place so I definitely wouldn't have been able to get it with the given clues with any amount of time.
I was basically SCREAMING at the screen as soon as he did a full 360 in Barcelona, I knew IMMEDIATELY it was Carrer de Sardenya! I worked as an au-pair there and took the kids out to parks nearby and stuff and therefore walked there a lot. I recognized Syracuse because I went to university there so I thought it was going to be a classic pulling a guess out of his ass when he said "I'm just gonna look around... starting with Syracuse..."
Levante are from Valenica and that flag did look like the Valencian flag, not Catalonia. The flag of Catalonia is just yellow and red stripes, there's no blue on it. That was one tough.
New Pictures on Hotel Gounod are way more tricky, a italian bus there and no cars with yellow plates on the back made me think we were in italy. The Hairsalon with all the french writing also isnt there anymore.
The Wizard bested me by about 700 on this one. Missed Funchal by going for southern Spain. Guessed Niagara Falls instead of Syracuse. Couldn't figure out the city in Latvia (a result of the pictures changing over time, I think - I didn't get a clear view of the Cultural Center). Bang on the other two, though.
You should do a "missed clues" episode. Show the original clip and show afterwards what you missed. Like a best of compilation. Bet you would make it hilarious. Have fun with your mate and have a safe trip!
4:38 - Yellow reflectorized rear number plates in France are actually an OLD, not a new thing -- 1963 (optional) / 1993 (compulsory) to 2007, I believe.
I actually found an E Fayette St in Baltimore. Unfortunately, by the time it became clear to me that it couldn't be the one I was looking for, I had no motivation left to go back to the map and look for yet another town with that street name :( I did get the Barcelona one, though. Had a hunch that that's where it was and just kept scanning the many "carrers" running SE-NW until I found the right one. Getting three 5000-point rounds in one game is always nice. Unfortunately, I went for Italy in the last round and ruined my score just a bit.
I visited New York this summer and I recognized the 3rd place as Western New York. I've been to Syracuse and I totally see it now but didn't recognize it immediately.
1: Found it pretty quickly, no rocket surgery here. 5000 pts. 2: Looks like a big, French, Mediterranean city. Italian flag, so let's look close to Italy first. Zoomed in on Nice and found it ridiculously quick. 5000 pts. 3: USA, NY because of the yellow numberplates. Took me way too long to spot the plaque-thingy on the ground (at 8:53) that said Syracuse NY. Easy from there. 5000 pts. 4: Found out the city (thanks to the dumpsters) and the street pretty quickly. Finding it on the map took a bit longer. Still 5000 pts. 5: Aaaargh! No perfect score here. I kept looking in Italy, mostly Sicily. Looked in Spain and Portugal as well. Spent way too much time on this one. Ended up going for Genoa. 795 pts. Most frustrating final round ever. 20795 total.
I got Syracuse by looking at the pavement on the sidewalk. For some reason, they had the town name and stuff engraved there and you could barely make it with the low res.
There was a trash can in round 4 that said "Barcelona" on it. Also I was pretty disappointed you didn't get the Syracuse NY one, you always go Syracuse so first so that was a big OOF. 19115 here because the last guess I got 172 points on it. I though we were closer to Lebanon because of those trees were cedars.
I'm still watching the video as I comment this but as a Canadian who travels to the U.S often the third round is screaming New York state to me hope i'm right and you are too.
I got insanely lucky with this one, almost a perfect score, except for the last one in Funchal, i thought it was also southern France, but even in the third one, i was just 1km away with blind guessing. BTW. the one in Barcelona, had literally written "Barcelona" on the garbage bin.

@Nick Maclachlan it simply means east
Round 1- same as in video 5000
Round 2- Knew it was southern france thanks to the palm tress and language. Looked for the hotel in marseille and montpellier city centre until i finally found it in nice 5000
Round 3- I was ready to give up but then thanks to the license plate video i remembered the yellow number plater are from new york. So i decided to look for the street names in middle sized ny towns. Looked in alabny for a few min then looked in syracuse and found the corner. Very lucky round! 5000
Round 4- immediately recognised barcelona as ihad been there before. The buildings, cab and flag confirmed it for me. Looked for the street name for a couple secs and quickly found it as it was in the center 5000
Round 5- No idea, got an italian vibe and saw the see in the south so i looked for a football pitch that correlates in naples. 680
SO CLOSE if only the last round had any clues i would have had a perfect score of 25000. Cant believe i still got a lower score than you even though i got 2 more perfect scores than you, very frustrating game!
Best of luck with your journey mate - we're all waiting on tenterhooks!
12:33 That is "Swan Lake", a ballet with tunes by a nobody named Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. La Bayadère is also a ballet (Ludwig Minkus).
Urban world always fun, so glad there's still geoguessr
Teatro Tivoli is in Barcelona. As for Levante, they play in Valencia though in Barcelona-esque/Catalan-esque colours.
There are a looooot of places and theatres with 'tivoli' in it.
@@RealTabernacle Granted. Though we already knew we were in Catalonia from the flag.
@@paulcook7426 good point
Hi! I’m from Barcelona hahaha. Just so you know, La Vanguardia is one of the most popular daily newspaper in Catalonia and Spain :)
Barcelona written on the bin beside you.Goodlook with your next challenge.
La vanguardia is a Spanish newspaper and levante is the name of the general region of the east coast of Spain, not a city in particular. The football team is based in Valencia
This was cool really hype for the next adventure loved the mission across Wales
Levante is in Valencia by the way. I have been to one of their home games. Nice club :)
Great content on your channel, that's pleasant mate! Hi from Lausanne!
For next time, you can easily recognize the streets of Barcelona thanks to its typical urban plan; the blocks of buildings with truncated corners. This is the Cerdà plan :)
I've actually been to that exact street in Barcelona! Couldn't believe it when it popped up!
"At least I have eyes. Puts things into perspective." I see what you did there...
You could walk along the Irish border before it becomes a hard border for an adventure, love the vids!
I'm super excited for your next trek! Be safe m8 and watch out for those farmers!
I think walking across the Isle of Man in a straight line would be a good idea. A nice mini challenge that you could probably do in one or two days. You could probably get the footage uploaded a lot sooner than within a few months, too.
Love the hillbilly chase music on your third guess!
13:52 This yellow and black car is a taxi that you can only find in Barcelona
Levante FC is a club based in Valencia.
Did you know that the store now being Lipecar (13:50) was called "Video Bum" back in the day and was a movie rental place xD And the kids lived in the orange house shown at 14:34. Also the bridge seen in the background at the same timestamp was the place my taxi driver had to make a U-turn because I pointed out he drove too far the time I arrived in Barcelona. What a coincidence this placement was, holy crap!
I recognized Syracuse because I went to university there so I thought it was going to be a classic pulling a guess out of his ass when he said "I'm just gonna look around... starting with Syracuse..."
9:11 "I don't know whether this is Canada or the USA"
There was a US flag literally just in front of you.
Levante are from Valenica and that flag did look like the Valencian flag, not Catalonia. The flag of Catalonia is just yellow and red stripes, there's no blue on it. That was one tough.
Round 3:
The old New York plates are white with a stripe of dark blue at the top and bottom, with text in the same color.
Oh, and might include the comments as well.....
That Gounod perfect zoom-in was craaazy!
this guy should play the lottery!
15k after 3 rounds but then came unstuck. "Genesee" was helpful in r3.
Mate. Hotel Gounod.. well played, well played.
4:38 - Yellow reflectorized rear number plates in France are actually an OLD, not a new thing -- 1963 (optional) / 1993 (compulsory) to 2007, I believe.
I actually found an E Fayette St in Baltimore. Unfortunately, by the time it became clear to me that it couldn't be the one I was looking for, I had no motivation left to go back to the map and look for yet another town with that street name :(
I did get the Barcelona one, though.
Holy crap on that Hotel Gounod one. Wizard indeed.
Great watch as always! Added a huge like my friend 👍👍
"I don't know if this is Canada or the USA"
>is staring at an american flag
Omg so true now I see it too 9:12
Good eyes, totally missed that
@@MrCai01 Are you american? I imagine it's more easily spotted by americans
I am not and I've also spotted it.
Just a quick info : The yellow license plates in France are the *old* ones, nowadays all the country uses the european license plates
Syracuse is my home city ahah.. I knew it had to be it when i saw fayette
Crazy that the signs have changed. Just played this round today and the second area that hair salon now says "Nice" right beneath its name.
At 9:12 I think I see a US flag on that sign, near the top, could be wrong due to the blurriness.
I got insanely lucky with this one, almost a perfect score, except for the last one in Funchal, i thought it was also southern France, but even in the third one, i was just 1km away with blind guessing.
BTW. the one in Barcelona, had literally written "Barcelona" on the garbage bin.
I will never understand why I like watching this..
Tip: Romanian doesn't have slavic words, it's more akin to french/italian/spanish.
Latvian isn't Slavic either though
Doesn't it get influence from slavic languages or borrows similar words? I only speak portuguese as a romance language and I feel like I don't understand a single romanian word
What do you mean? Romanian has plenty of Slavic words. Source: Am Romanian
My bad, it has slavic influences but are romanced in writing and conjugation.
The Barcelona one you messed up triggered me so much is said on the bins BARCELONA! and you kept scrolling past lol
