On the fourth round there were signs giving away the nearest cities just to the right of were he looked. Brought me the full 5000p. Still couldn't beat him though :D
Yes, I noticed this in the round where if you turn around there is a road sign that tells you the country, the road and two towns enabling a fairly easy 4900 at worst.
@@reggiedixon2 how come that road sign tells the country? The name of the country wasn't written there. That names of cities tell nothing unless u know their exact location.
i actually beat him for the first time today, but only because he didnt pan 90 degrees to the right to see the sign in south africa that said exactly which highway it was on lol. he was shook by the argentina round
I got a perfect score on the South Africa one! He forgot he could pan around, but I used the sign, and it took me a while though I found it. The body of water let me figure out which bend it was.
For the first one, if you haven't noticed, you actually got the place name, Hrastnik (hrast is not a word related to Croatia, instead it means oak tree). PIGD Steklarna Hrastnik is Prostovoljno Industrijsko Gasilsko Društvo Steklarna Hrastnik, or in English Voluntary Industrial Firefighter's Society (PIGD) Glass Factory (Steklarna) Hrastnik (place name). The fact that there is room for only one vehicle is surprising, but then again, since they are formed as a part of a larger industrial operation, the actual firefighting vehicles and equipment are probably stored at the factory itself (which, of course, makes most sense).
Damn, I usually don't play along but this time I decided to just give it a go and scored 21'000 points, without really "trying" that hard. I'm shocked how well watching your videos has trained me to identify locations by only very little information. Keep up making these awesome and very watchable videos pal. I'm looking forward to another one of your straight line missions. Stay save, take care
This was a fun play along but damn it's annoying doing these a few years out, I'm getting completely different clues from the updated map ! Cool to come back to these even though I saw them when they came out, as my memory is non existent apparently and can treat it as completely new games I've never seen.
If you'd panned I'm positive he would've gotten a perfect score in the fourth round. There was a sign with the road number and a couple of cities. Even so, I went for australia.
In regards to the first round, the word you were thinking about is "Hrvatska" which means Croatia in Croatian. There was no easy way to differentiate between Slovenia and Croatia in that round unless you are very familiar with both countries or speak the languages. Apart from the overall looks of the area, only thing that I would say could help you easily tell that it's Slovenia (knowing you can't speak the languages) is the logo of the grocery store, the red stripe with small white things on top. It's the logo of the Slovenian chain store called Mercator. They used to have stores in Croatia prior to 2014 so if you see the imagery is newer than that, you can be sure it's Slovenia. Also, they never existed in such small villages in Croatia in the first place.
There are no EU plates in Croatia. It was filmed before becoming an EU member. Also, the curve arrows in Croatia are red on white not black on white like in Slovenia. You played the last 2 rounds NMPZ accidentally. The South Africa round was 5kable. GG for the France guess!
Also Mercator is a typical Slovenian company that can be found literally everywhere, including the town of Hrastnik. If you see the M logo it is a dead giveaway it's Slovenia
First time playing along with one of these (and doing any sort of no-moving thing in Geoguessr)-- 18,569. Whiffed entirely on the last round, had no idea where it was and randomly guessed Australia, so at least I beat Tom on the first four rounds combined. Off by roughly 20 miles in Round 1, couple hundred in Round 2 (wrong region of France), roughly 100 in Round 3, which I'm very proud of, and 30 or so in Round 4 (wrong part of the road, which is the only one I think I could have improved with more time, I only took around 1-2 minutes per round). Very fun!
that was a lot of fun, I got really lucky and found the lake in Chile/Argentina, and then was able to realize the R road signs for South Africa, and searched around on the map and get pretty close. However, you crushed me everywhere else :(
Oh my god you seriously forgot to pan and zoom in the last two rounds!! 😂😂😂😂 The 4th round was easy haha. But pretty well played. I gotta say this is the first time I have beaten you so that’s cool! 🤪
First time giving this a go, it's great fun. This is how my run shaped out: 1. 4,804 - Knew it was Slovenia due to the language. Being Croatian, I noticed the small differences (and the logo for Mercator, which is a Slovenian supermarket chain), but didn't know the exact location of the river so went too much to the west. 2. 3,940 - Assumed it was France, but thought it would be nearer to the Belgian border due to the flat terrain. 3. 19 - Showed my lack of experience here, couldn't pin it down so just went North America and completely missed. 4. 4,978 - Looked around for a bit and found the road from the sign, couldn't get the exact junction down. 5. 2,365 - Went for Taiwan, didn't even consider South Korea here. All in all, 16,106, decent, but feel really bad about missing the South American guess.
Really enjoyed the play along video! I got the right country and was only 41km away for the first and got a perfect score on the fourth, but totally messed up on the 5th! Looking forward to the next one!
I said Bless you and my wife laughed. You said thank you seconds later and she laughed even harder. You have to have some paranormal abilities, not only you can guess country based on the type of grass, but also sense future viewers behavior. My man.
21,740 total. Was playing alright until the last round - I went Japan instead of S. Korea. I love how there are people who blatantly cheat on these play-alongs just to get top score, as if it's some kind of achievement!
Oh god, the lines on the road and the signs totally fcked me over in that Argentina round... I immediately noticed the sunset in the East and I thought the overall feel was super Chile/Argentina-like, but for some reason I was sure that Chile and Argentina would have white lines only and wouldn't have those yellow arrow signs, so I went for North America like a stubborn idiot. LOL.
Same :( Got better score than Tom in the first round and then absolutely embarrassed myself in every other one. Finished with 8090pts just because I guessed Japan last round, not too far from South Korea.
What the actual heck Tom?! You're in well shape! I think my final score was around 7k, albeit I thoroughly enjoyed playing along with you, I wouldn't mind seeing more of this in the future! Cheers
The moment I saw those train cars in the first round I recognized the logo on them, it's Slovenian railroads logo. Also the store next to the Hrastnik sign with the white M logo on red background is Mercator, you can be sure you're in one of the balkan countries if you see it. Cheers from Slovenia!
2:10 - If you look closer, you can tell it's the fire station (judging by the symbol and just how this gate/building looks like). Typical for many small villages in most of the slavic countries. A gate, very often red with some kind of signs that look like it's some sort of institution.

im watching this channel since the beginning of the quarantine. my brain’s one part became geowizard. my guesses were nearly exactly same with him. except that snowy mountain round i actually went for north
First time playing along and got (I feel) a respectable 18,400. Round 1: I lived in the Balkans, and was vacillating between Montenegro and Slovenia, but saw the M sign (which stands for Mercator - a chain of grocery stores which are in Croatia and Slovenia) and scanned around enough until I saw the name of the river that ended in N. Round 2: I figured France, guessed a hundred miles away or so on the right altitude. Round 3: biffed it (didn't check the sun!) so picked Alaska. 3 points. Round 4: started shouting at you to turn to the right, because the freaking road sign was right there - I estimated direction on the road and found the right intersection! Round 5: still shouting at you to look around. I saw the yellow/black striped utility pole and from your other videos, was sure it was Japan. I didn't check the side of the road we were driving on... Anyway - that was good fun! I plan to play along again!
When he starts getting closer to his screen in round 5 and Im screaming at my screen "YOU CAN ZOOM!". Guess this turned no panning no zooming in round 4

If you're in doubt about Croatia or Slovenia, a general rule of thumb is Slovenian house numbers are white on red, Croatian are white on blue. Also if a communist-style factories (chimneys, silos, railroad) are nested in narrow gorges between wooded and steep hills, it's more likely to be Slovenia. Fun fact for a geography buff: there's the highest chimney in Europe (Trbovlje Power Plant).
From what I've seen of freight hopping, it seems like there's a high likelihood of being arrested (especially if you're not experienced) and it also seems a bit dangerous... like if you screw up you lose your feet/legs kinda dangerous. I do like watching videos on it, but be VERY careful if you decide to do it.
Round 1 - 55 miles away - guessed Northern Croatia Round 2 - 190 miles away - guessed France - Dordogne Round 3 - 493 miles away - guessed south Patagonia - just a bit north of where you were on the next bit of water! Round 4 - 2 miles away - you forgot you could scroll ... wally! There are road signs! Rouns 5 - 130 miles away - guessed S.Korea ... went too far north 21722 points ... beat you ;-0 ... if you'd have scrolled that S.Africa round you'd have beaten me.

Brave Dave was brilliant and Shiey is awesome too. I'd say be so careful if you decide to do the freight hop, we won't want you slipping and losing a leg. 1. Basically thought the exact same thing, but went a bit more to the west. 4859 pts. 2. Saw "Fournel" and thought France, but figured it to look much more northern so I went high north close to the Belgian border. 3582 pts. 3. Completely forgot about the sun and went all in for Alaska. 3 pts. 4. Panned over and saw the road and town signs, found the road and the 2 towns, found a junction that corrolated. 5000 pts. 5. Also chose between South Korea and Taiwan, but went for Taiwan. 2359 pts. Total score: 15803. Meh.

Freight hopping with Tom, sounds like mega fun. I'm sure you know of Brave Dave, you might even have mentioned him if I remember correctly. Lots of people recommend you shiey but Dave's honestly a lot more like you, same age, humor, personality, nationality and passion for outdoors adventures/Wales/mischief. Maybe try and reach out to him for a collab when lockdown's lifted? Either freight hopping or scrambling around in Snowdonia would be an absolute crack to watch. Just a thought!

If you had just clicked your first instinct at 5:05 it would have been a god-tier guess.
This guys just a legend, i never thought one day id be so entertained by something i couldnt care less about learning 😂
Glad to see the old stuff coming back, Tom
I love how he sneezes then says thank you afterwards as if he knew i said “bless you”
12:30 Tom: *Sneezes
Me to the screen: "Bless you"
Tom to the cam: "Thank you!"
Me and all of you: "You're welcome"
*You're
@@Baychimo damn, I never thought this could happen to me, but here I am. I became what I swore to destroy... :(
Oh the absolute blunder, 90 degrees to your right was the sign you needed in r4!
awesome vid
this was the first time I played a game along and its a great challenge!
got two insane guesses with over 4500points but I panned and zoomed every round :P
He didn't even pan in the South Africa one, there was a huge sign immediately to the right lol
the first 2 seconds of this video are golden
When he bent back and was about to sneeze, I thought that it's actually the moment he realized he wasn't following his rules :D
Please do a collaboration with the TH-camr Ludwig!!!
strange how he kicks into "no look no zoom" mode, all of a sudden...
Damn no look would be really hard!
@@Hugo-qf8ss LOL true.. my mistake ;-)
When you sneezed I said bless you and then you said thank you and I thought you could hear me for a second
This is better than anything on TV.
A freight hopping video would be great. I really enjoy Shiey's videos that he does on it
Hy GeoWizard im from Slovenia i love your vids keep up the good work. Can you play more battle royale.
The part where he sneezed and said “thank you” as if someone blessed him was just to good haha
