    People only say Kaido is mid because they want his story to have more ties to the longing history and lore of the One Piece world. and because people didn't get that deep lore connection kaido, they say he's mid. Instead of looking at him for the beast he is. and ALL his one-liners were BARS! The man fought for 60+ chapters STRAIGHT, NO BREAKS, while holding an island, and still only lost because he decided to take the Bajrang Gun head on instead of avoiding it.

      I understand people who feel that way (although I vehemently disagree). We’ve gotten spoiled with deep characterization from the likes of Doflamingo, who was lightning in a bottle really. Something what I found weird was that at the time of Wano, there were theories of why Kaido tried to get to Marineford during the Summit War. People were throwing around things like Kaido was coming to save Ace and Ace was actually on Kaidos crew.
    Since we got to truly know Kaido in Wano, I thought the reasons were pretty obvious. There are 2 main ones.
    1. Kaido is opportunist. He sees that Marines are already weakened by fighting Whitebeards fleet. Making a move right there would have been like killing two birds with one stone. Taking down Marines and possibly a rival Yonko (if Whitebeard had not died). Doing this would have dropped the world out of ballance and into chaos, which is something Kaido relishes. A true war he yearned for. Shanks saw this coming and therefore stopped him.
    2. Kaido dreams of glorious death. The kind that leaves your name permanently in history. And weaklings cant choose the place they die. The Summit War would have been great opportunity for it. He must be so jealous of Whitebeard.

    The only villain I'd put as definitively above Kaido is Doffy, he's somewhere between top 2 and top 5 for me. He does still have more to him that could be revealed in the future, which could put him even higher retrospectively.
    I think he became depressed wishing for death because of his stay in Wano. He grew complacent, slowly losing his ambitions to be Joyboy and change the world and Oden's death made him realise he couldn't really do it. Instead he decided to somehow chase that end for himself which he already saw as impossible for him

    Man, honestly? I never understood why Kaidou backstory is so focused on. Kaidou and Big mom are basically the same in regards to backstory: Their short, but basic backstories are there to showcase us only the start of whom they are now. The difference with Big Mom is she's connected to Elbaf. Kaidou's a simple guy! He was strong, entered strong crews, everyone respected him and made him a legend cause he's strong, so he became who he is now. I honestly have no interest on who Kaidou was, cause I pretty much feel he was no one in the past. He was just a strong man doing strong man stuff and he only became "KAIDOU THE BEAST" as he became older and started conquering Wano, which we saw enough. We don't need deep characterization or deep backstories to every villain as long as we understand who they are, and their characterization is well done, which Kaidou checks perfectly

      Well there’s a lot to Kaido that you may have missed for one thing is that he is the last survivor of his race that’s connected to the lunarians which made him take pity on king being the last lunarians alive just like he is the last of his race not to mention whatever happened with him and rock d xebec on gods valley is also a huge hit to him mentally and as a character bc god valley incident brought him to the brink of death where big mom gave him his mythical span devil fruit and supposedly saved his life and this is where she says he owes her one for that and sengoku also stated that those who remember that tale is too embarrassed to even speak rocks d xebec name ever again which is huge for someone held as the strongest creature on the planet

    Kaido, for the entire Onigashima battle, was climbing up my ranks as the perfect villain. The only one who could surpass Doffy, Crocodile and Katakuri as the best One Piece villains in my list. But, damn, I really did need a good flashback for him. It's like this. If I've to piece together information spread across short flashbacks and dialogues by multiple characters across a 70 chapter battle, with a ton of speculation still, I really can't say the flashback delivered. Not saying every villain needs a flashback. Crocodile is a great example. But, Oda undeniably setup so much for him and yet, we didn't get anything. He's still top 5 One Piece villains tho. Just feels like Oda didn't do him justice in terms of delivery. Whatever information we have, feels like a setup, a half-written story. And, until I get the full story, he won't be in my personal top 3. But, even that isn't the main issue. My biggest issue is that we'll get everything after he's defeated. Sure, a retrospective look at him will be great then, but with how hyped and hugely important Wano was, I really think delivering a good, well fleshed out and fully explorex villain within the arc is my preference.

    • @DarkKingAdonis
      @DarkKingAdonis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is understandable and I can’t fault you whatsoever for feeling that way as I shared the same sentiment initially. Whether or not this is what Oda had planned from the onset for Kaido, we will never know. I do get where you’re coming from on his flashback not delivering. It’s very short and montage-y, with us readers being left to fill in the pieces.. like I did in this video. He absolutely should have been more fleshed out in Wano and even though we didn’t get what we were hoping for, I am at least content with where things stand at the moment. I think that Kaido is still a hell of an antagonist even without the lengthy backstory.

    • @krishbohra5536
      @krishbohra5536 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DarkKingAdonis Yeah, Kaido is great. Easily among the top 5 One Piece villains. But since his story feels half written, half baked, not top 3. Without knowing the full story, I can't say he's top 3. And I really don't know when Oda will address his backstory in the future. Rocks? But what about his days after the God Valley? It just feels like the things his flashback includes in terms of following up with the already setup material connects to so many different things and parts of the One Piece world that I can't currently think of any one place we can get his full story. I think Oda was holding back too much. The main thing everyone noticed was that he was smiling in all the short flashbacks we'd gotten with King and Gecko Moria, and now he's just depressed. I really wanted to see this transition. And since all the filling in gap stuff is just speculation without us knowing what happened in his past, it feels like believing in a theory because the canon story didn't deliver.

    • @DarkKingAdonis
      @DarkKingAdonis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. A lot of it is speculative on my part (think I mentioned that). It’s like ordering a sandwich but you don’t get any meat or mayo. You can still make do with what you were given - however, you would be immensely more satisfied had you received a proper sandwich.
      Kaido may return in the story at some point or another. I’m not really convinced that he’s dead or his overall character arc is complete. We could very well get a more substantial backstory then. But that’s operating under assumptions. If that doesn’t happen, then I can say that I personally did really enjoy what we DID get. :)

      Something people are overlooking is that there will be a return to Wano in the future. There’s the mystery of the ancient weapons, Yamato, and the looming threat of an invasion of Wano to come. Also, Kaido stated several times that he was based in Wano for a very specific reason which wasn’t explicitly stated during the course of the arc. We’re just too impatient, which makes sense when you’re following week to week. Let’s not forget that Oda is the master of setup and payoff. Everything that happened in Wano has left many seemingly loose ends that aren’t as they appear. Let’s just wait and see what’s to come. Also, Kaido wasn’t confirmed captured or killed. And we have most definitely not seen the last of Big Mom as well. Both are in Wano and are a wildcard to say the least.

  • @Kanemakii
    @Kanemakii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Kaido’s world view never changed though? He’s always believed men’s true worth can only be displayed in battle, strength is quite literally everything in his philosophy. And that’s adopted BECAUSE he was a child soldier. He currently believes that as well. Not really understanding where you think he might have lost himself over the years but even his current “onigashima plan” was the embodiment of that philosophy, a pirate stronghold where they’d go on numerous expeditions armed with ancient weapons to bring the world upside down. A “world of violence” he called it
    You mention that there was undeniable setup for a more fleshed out character, but never give any examples? I’m curious to know what was alluded to that mandated a in-wano conclusion or pay off
    Also I loathe crocodile and his role in the story. Awful villain

    • @DarkKingAdonis
      @DarkKingAdonis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I interpreted Kaido as someone who became increasingly jaded over a period of time. No doubt his upbringing as a child soldier played a large into his philosophy, but like I mentioned in the video, there was very much an intent to change the world. This part of his character remains unresolved. I have a hard time believing that a pirate stronghold is what he alluded to during the brief flashback with King. That’s what led to my assuming that there is more to him and it will be addressed later down the line. Similar to how Crocodile was explored more at a deeper level in Marineford, I believe the same will be for Kaido in the final saga. He doesn’t have to be directly involved for this to happen either. Could be a Rocks flashback or whatever the case might be.

      @@DarkKingAdonis Ask yourself what it means to kaido to change the world. He doesn't have some larger than life, optimistic goal. To him, changing the world is bringing it to a level he sees fit. Total mayhem across the seas. Extorting a tyrannical figure, dealing in the underworld, and forcing govt scientists to help strengthen his army was his means to an end. Obviously what kaido had in mind during the brief exchange we saw with king wasn't the details, but the end result has always been the same. I don't see any evidence pointing kaido towards a life of revolution and liberty.
      Nothing about him that *needed* to be addressed in wano's storyline went unaddressed. Certainly not if you think kaido didn't want to apply his ideology onto others forcefully.
      There wasn't a character arc that crocodile had in either his introductory arc nor his later appearances, and they certainly weren't needed. Hoping for character revelations about kaido in a future arc is setting yourself up for disappointment in my honest opinion dawg
