Hey folks, quick correction: the reason why my memcard import failed in this video was because you need to pick the main export folder, not the memcard folder itself. Thanks to the NetherSX2 dev for pointing it out! The manual copy/paste method shown in this video will still work, and also will be handy if you are importing memory cards from a different device. Other notes: - I mentioned that advanced Android users can build the apk directly on their Android device, here is the method to do that. You will need the 3668 or 4248 version of AetherSX2 apk and the appropriate xdelta file (found on each respective NetherSX2 GitHub page). From there, use the app UniPatcher to patch the xdelta file to your AetherSX2 apk. Here is a link to UniPatcher: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.emunix.unipatcher&hl=en_US&gl=US - If you previously had AetherSX2 installed and attempt to install NetherSX2 but get an error, it's likely because you have some remaining data files on your device from the previous installation. I recommend connecting your device to a PC using the method in this video and deleting the internal/Android/data/xyz(dot)aethersx2(dot)android folder (grab anything you want to save first, like your saves/states). Now try installing and it should work. - Same goes when updating to a more recent version of NetherSX2: export all of your data, uninstall the old one (while choosing NOT to keep data files), then install the new NetherSX2. Once installed, you can import your exported data. I'll update with more notes as they come in, thanks!
@@chocokagura it really depends on the device. For example the Surface Duo 2 that I was using had zero access to the Android data folder from within the device, even after trying a half dozen file management apps and other tricks like rolling back the stock Files app version. Long story short: nobody is happy, and the experience varies quite a bit!

The thing about the android data folder: you don't need a windows pc, any linux or mac also works for that. But the thing is: many recent android phones with Android 14 like Samsung have even tighter security and permissions over the data folder, so even on a computer this folder will either not appear or be completely empty. And you can't paste anything on it, since this folser is now read only. This is "why we cant have nice things" - malware on android abuses the data folder to scrape and inject data between other apps on your phone, so Google and Samsung are constantly trying to abandon the data folder idea altogether. In recent Android versions malware is getting more and more limited and now it basically cant comprmise any other app on your system, and that is a very good thing. Each app is more and more sandboxed and isolated from others with each release. This makes the system extremely secure, but the data and obb folders are going to disappear eventually. Apps and emulators themselves need to use the newer permissions system to avoid incompatibility. If NetherSX isn't updated, it will not be compatible or usable at all on future Android versions. And since AetherSX is dead, I don't see PS2 emulation on android lasting for much longer, unless we keep these retro devices around with older android versions or a new emulator appears (or development on AetherSX resumes). As a fix for the new android hiding or protecting the data folder: there are a few file managers on the play store that use alternative ways to gain access to this data folder still. They use the new permissions system and ask the user for access to the folder. One of those is Solid Explorer (paid). The other one is Total Commander (free and very powerful, but a bit ugly). So you don't even need a PC for this.
Yeah I think latest Android builds are tighter on file management fortunately, or in many cases like this, unfortunately. For instance, getting music tagging apps to automatically fix metadata in batch modes generally don't work anymore on modern Android. I imagine emulation handhelds will need some work arounds.
The Nether team's working on reverse engineering Aether so they can develop it properly and bring it more inline with PCSX2, hopefully it won't be long before they can figure it out - just wish the original dev did the right thing and handed it off to others instead of sabotaging the app and ruining it for everyone.

Hey Russ, Love your content and you're the reason for me to get into the hobby of emulation (got my first Retroid pocket 4 last week, still setting up!!) Just a question, when running the batch file on my windows laptop, I keep getting an error saying "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP120.dll was not found. Reintalling the program may fix the problem." Was wondering if you (or anyone in the community) knew of a solution? Cheers guys!!

It take some CPU power to run a PS2 emulator well on our phones. Things were originally going well with the development of this great emulator until rude entitled people without money to own a decent phone began to insult and direct toxic energy towards the emulator developer causing this emulator to be in its current imperfect state. All of these is such a big shame for everyone.
What exactly is different in NetherSX2 compared to AetherSX2? I've been using AetherSX2 for a good while and never really had any issues apart from the occasional stutter here and there, but that's to be expected for an emulator. You said it was being actively developed but more so on the user elements rather than performance, so is it just the exact same codebase with some QoL features on top?
One more hint. Its way more easy to move memcards files on smartphone itself because for example on odin 2 the android/data Folder isnt visible on PC even if you check "show invisible files".
Hey, I’m using an RG405v and the pre installed AetherSX2 will not open! I’ve tried your steps but when I go to install NetherSx2 once it’s in my SD, it says do you want to update this app? I hit update, and it says something went wrong app not installed???
TL:DR, what's the performance like on various systems? This is really great timing. I have been trying PS2 emulation on my phone for the last couple months, and with each new release of Nether it gets a little better, but one game that I can't seem to run well is Gran Turismo 4. I know it's an intensive game but I would have thought a Galaxy S21 Ultra can handle it. I can run it pretty well, but once I try a night race or anything with the safety car, my game starts slowing to around 60-80%
Hey Russ, have you considered doing a tutorial on backing up Linux CFW? Recently I put JelOS on a new SD card and can't seem to figure out where Linux is looking for my backup file when restoring from backup. When I choose that option after putting the file where I think it goes, nothing happens. I had JelOS on my old SD card so I didn't want to have to set up emulation station again with all my customizations. Upon googling it doesn't seem that there is much in the way of help on this lol.

for anyone transferring save states from aethersx2 to nethersx2, nethersx2 won't be able to read the save state files from aethersx2 so make sure you save on the memory cards first if you want to keep a recent save of whatever you're playing
did this on my rp4p and luckily i was able to salvage some save files
thank you for the tutorial sir
Excellent video. Would it be easy to do this on an android box? I have a Kinhank x5 pro and would like nethersx2 I'm just worried I'd ruin its functionality
When i click on the build file it says cannot proceed because MSVCR120.dll was not found..
same with me
What handheld are you using in the video?
I use the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for most of the setup, and then the Surface Duo 2 for section where I export and back up files.
I did everything according to the guide, even though I have AetherSX2... and I have a problem with Emulation Station... when I launch a game it doesn't open it automatically. It opens Aether and I have to select the game to start it. Please help
I hope this isn’t a dumb question but why can’t I use Mac to download this file?
cool, thanks!
Hello RetroGameCorps. McAfee stopped the batch file from doing its thing and claimed it was a asynchronous remote access trojan virus. Why does it say it is a virus and is the program safe? Thank you for all your videos! Keep up the good work.
I did something similar to this directly on the odin 2 (I don’t have pc) and instead of using the builder file I used the xdelta and it downloaded fine. Is this another way to do it? Or am I missing out on stuff
I followed along another TH-cam video a few days ago
@@lordnino DNA Mobile Gaming? I think i understand that one more, it seems easier than this.
Its funny im specifically trying to play sly cooper on android. I downladed aethersx2 using the browser. But it didnt preform that good. So i tried search on youtube, and im gonna try the classic version of nethersx2. Thnx man!
hey man, would you consider update a guide for android for 3Ds and switch after the disparation of some emulators?

still rocking the original 3668, good enough for me. will install nether in the future
What do you prefer overall, Nether or Aether? I’m new to this world and I’m quite confused in which to use. Thanks
Hey Russ,
Love your content and you're the reason for me to get into the hobby of emulation (got my first Retroid pocket 4 last week, still setting up!!)
Just a question, when running the batch file on my windows laptop, I keep getting an error saying "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP120.dll was not found. Reintalling the program may fix the problem."
Was wondering if you (or anyone in the community) knew of a solution?
Cheers guys!!
@advaithkrishna6646
I also have the same problem on my laptop msvcp120 and msvcpr 120 dll error, i tried to copy paste the files into system 32 folder by downloading but it didn't work, so i did the patching on my phone itself was much more easier, just had to grab the latest apk of aether sx2 delta file and nethersx2 and download unipatcher and patch the aethersx2 apk with the nethersx2 apk and then install the patched nether apk all the links are in The video description btw.
Russ here with the timely post.
Crazy how good we had it huh now we got to bust open our windows PC I haven't touched mine in a couple of months just to get this on there
Can u play 1v1 from 2 phones? Like fifa or nhl
It take some CPU power to run a PS2 emulator well on our phones. Things were originally going well with the development of this great emulator until rude entitled people without money to own a decent phone began to insult and direct toxic energy towards the emulator developer causing this emulator to be in its current imperfect state. All of these is such a big shame for everyone.
sure thats what happend
I hit update, and it says something went wrong app not installed???
in the minute 4:17 I do that, but the folder PATCHEDAPK its empty, heeeeeeelp me please
You need to connect your PC to the Internet
