THANK YOU RUSS! I’m a teacher and we just got out today. Mine came in Monday and it’s been just sitting in the box. You just started my vacation off PERFECTLY!!!! 🙏🏿
OMG, I ended up buying the Retro Pocket 5 after watching Rus’s “Best Handheld 2024” video. I’m on the hunt for a guide but honestly, I only trust Rus’s recommendations. The Retro Pocket 5 is arriving on the 24th, and now I’ve got the perfect video lined up to enjoy on Christmas Day while tinkering with this amazing device. Life is good! Thanks Russ. You bring so much joy to the world 🤣🤣
i'm debating what to get currently...I like the Pocket 5, but I think I want a Steamdeck more....or wait for the new Legion Go OLED...or wait for the AMD strix devices to start showing up. I'll be getting another for my daughter after I load everything and figure it all out.
After you posted the website that has all the handhelds and comparing them, I decided on the RP5 as my very first emulation handheld and this video came out at the perfect time. Thank you!
Amazing guide, the one guide to rule them all. We see the hard work you put in and we all appreciate it Russ. Don’t push yourself too much, and take breaks as needed. We’ll always be here when you upload again cause we can’t get enough.
I used your written guide to set up my RP5 and I was very pleased with how it runs! One key thing to remember is that ESDE game folders are CASE SENSITIVE!!
I tore out a lot of my hair yesterday dealing with this, took me forever to realize what the issue was. Russ mentions running es-de once to create the folders on his guide, BUT if you've already moved some roms onto the SD card with folders that already have the correct names but are CAPS, then es-de won't make those folders and will fail during the handoff to some standalone emulators. Really important and hard to figure out through googling the error.
I found this out the hard way too. ESDE would spit errors with emulators for this very reason. I used ZArchiver to rename all the folders I made into lowercase to match the other folders and then reset the path selection for each emulator affected and it worked!
Got mine yesterday, spent all day today setting it up with your guides. Thank you SO much for sharing this content. Been a long time fan of your channel and I'm glad to finally have an "end game" handheld in the rp5. Cheers.
The RP5 is the hand held I wish I needed. It's such a leap forward over the RP4P. 8 months ago the 556 appealed to me more than the RP4P did, and once I played PS2 games for the first time on the 556 I was so blown away I picked up the Odin 2 Pro Rainbow variant and wow is it the most perfect Android retro hand held I've ever played. So yeah even though I'm all set and happy AF with what I have here I am nerding out to an RP5 setup video anyway. It looks so damn good.
Hell yeah! Thanks Russ, I've talked most of my friends into getting a retro handheld so these videos are a invaluable resource to share... Got the mini already and my 5 should be here before Christmas (hopefully). 🎉
I just received my RP5 and was about to see some guide on the internet when I saw your video. Thanks, Russ. Like the RP4 Pro before I'm going to watch this video all the way trough
Appreciate this guide - I'd set my Retroid Pocket Mini up like a month ago but had no idea you could click-hold on games in Dolphin, so I could set up individual control schemes for Wii games which is HUGE. Thank you for this
Excellent. Two goals I have for Christmas break that starts later today is to get a few 406v’s set up (family Christmas gifts) and my RP5 I’ve had and not completely set up since getting it a few weeks ago. This timing is perfect. Thanks Russ!
@@Yousie6Agreed. I love mine so much. Besides being super busy lately, that’s the other reason I haven’t completely set up my RP5 yet. I got my 406V a few days before the RP5 and I’ve been enjoying it too much to play any other systems.
This is the best Christmas present you could have gotten for me Russ. The RP5 I bought my fiance just arrived a few days ago, and (since she's a noob with android based handhelds) I still haven't decided whether to pre set it up for her, or give her an out of the box experience. Either way, I'm all set to help her out with this tutorial. Thanks Russ, and I hope you and your family enjoy a nice safe holidays ❤
@ChilkoNZ I am sorely tempted. The only problem is finding time away from her in order to do that (we both live and work together, and work ridiculously long hours, lol). One thing that helps is I've decided to gift her with my old 1tb sd from my odin 2 which is filled with roms, since I've recently upgraded my odin 2 to a higher sd card. Her birthday isn't until mid January, so I've still got time over the holidays and night time after she goes to bed.
Thank you so much for doing these elaborate to videos that are for sure peak workload for you and so close to the holidays too. 👍🏻 This will be one of those to rewatch a lot while actually doing work on a device
Hi Russ, I absolutely love your videos and the handheld consoles you showcase! Since you’ve configured this one, I know it’s set up to be the best it can be, which makes it even more special. I could never afford it at the time being, so getting it would be the best Christmas gift ever. If there’s any chance you’d consider gifting it, it’d truly make my holiday unforgettable. Thanks for all the amazing content, and happy holidays!
Amazing video as always Russ! I finally got around to setting my RP2S up to be actually usable and there’s a lot of helpful information in this video for me too. Just wanted to mention also I’m sure you know this but on Mupen64, if you long press a game, you can select a different controller profile to be used per game so you wouldn’t need to bind z three times
i just joined the retro handheld hobby, only have a 40xxv and trimui brick picked up so far, but this video still has my interest, so much to learn on how this stuff runs behind the scenes. working my way up to a $200 device, this looks like the one to get though
Great video as always! Got mine a couple days ago and just do Not have the time atm. This will no doubt come in VERY handy!! Hopefully Xmas day to at least get most of the way through. If anyone read the question before I edited this, Never-mind (in Rosanna Rosannadanna voice). Too many long hours due to the "holiday", just didn't scroll down far enough. Thanks for all you do Russ!!
THANK YOU RUSS! I’m a teacher and we just got out today. Mine came in Monday and it’s been just sitting in the box. You just started my vacation off PERFECTLY!!!! 🙏🏿
Teacher here, too! Just got my rp5 last week! Enjoy the much deserved break!
You teacher work your butts off. Yall need it
Congrats on your new RP5!
Who else watches these when they don't even have the device?
✋
His MuOS set up was so good that I did use, that I'm just here to support the videos.
Makes the slow delivery easier to cope with

Odin 2 mini is literally the best handheld right now, but my mini literally lives in my pocket and comes with me everywhere
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 nah id rather have oled and less warmth
If Odin 2 mini had oled rp5 would be irrelevant

Dude you dropped this DAYS before my RP5 is supposed to arrive! I'm so excited!
same lol, can't wait
Just got mine yesterday so it couldnt be more perfect. Hope yours arrives soon or before the holiday
@ it’s arriving the 23rd which is perfect, got it for my family but I know I’ll use it most 😂
Mine has shipped can’t wait😅😅

"Hey there's a new Retro Game Corps video, did you want to...-"
"Yeah man, I wanna do it."
Feels like Christmas morning

This is an insane amount of patience and work. Thank you for helping this community. Navigating that information otherwise would be daunting at best.

Russ the type of youtuber that makes me smile and do a friendly nod when he does his intro greeting because he's just that nice
Casually dropping an hour-long guide just for the heck of it
This man cannot be stopped
Yeah true retro goat
My RP5 JUST arrived, I opened TH-cam and this video was on top of my feed. Christmas came earlier this year
