    Thanks for the video, I bought one yesterday! I'm a newbie...slowly but surely and with my patient husband...got a whopping 9 miles on it cruising around my neighborhood. Wish me luck!

      Josh Scarcliff Did you get yours Josh? I’m new to riding too and I’m looking for one of these now. I’m pretty excited! I’d love to hear from both of you.

      Doug Hellwig I’m loving it. I ride it to work every chance I can. I’ve put almost 1500 miles on it. It’ll keep up with traffic and then some. You’ll always be looking for a sixth gear but for the cruising I do it’s got plenty of power. It handles well. I’m enjoying it.

    • @doughellwig6275

      Josh Scarcliff I got one over the weekend. 2009 with 8,000 miles. It rained all day yesterday but I Road it around a little Saturday. I need practice turning for sure. My friend has a 2003 HD Fatboy and he was having trouble turning on mine. It’s a common thing I guess with these to have a learning curve with turning... Was yours tough to turn at first? I’m really happy with it though. Great looking and feeling bikes in my opinion.

      Doug Hellwig yeah gotta find that sweet spot with the clutch and throttle. That and drag that rear brake. For a daily comfy commuter I really have no complaints

    Nice lookin' ride. I had a harley davidson heritage. Which I sold. Here it is 2021, I'm thinking of getting a new Vulcan 900 Classic LT. Gonna test ride one. my thinking/hoping is my current riding habits... are so that I won't miss the difference between a 1700cc engine vs the Vulcan 900cc. At this point in time. I like the look of the Vulcan 900 Classic LT more than the current line of Harley Davidson Heritage, and there's about a 10k difference in price. Thanks for sharing.

    To remove the oil filler cap, I first place a rag on top of the cap. Then, I use a very large slotted standard screwdriver so that I won't scratch the cap. Pretty much that's it. Great review by the way.
    You're right that the right speed for the vn900 seems to be about 55.

    Im happy walking off with my Vulcan 900 Classic LT, instead of an Iron883 or some harley shit. I saved money and you lost. (Not for the stock motorcycle, but if you add all of those accessories windscreen, bags... etc...) Hope you still have plenty of money left though.. because sadly you will have to spend quite a lot on repairs. Think again before buying a Harley Shitson

    If you can ride a bicycle this MC should be great. It will take some time to get used to the shifting, clutch, front and rear brake. This is normal. Just take it to a large paved parking lot and practice. The biggest advantage is the bike is light for its size and the seat is low enough most people can flat foot it. That will build your confidence quickly!

    Very good review. I have a 2010 Vulcan and I LOVE it! Spent all last summer on it.
    You're right about the cruising speed and that feeling that you need another gear. I can't tell you how many times I've thought, "I must be in fourth gear," only to find that I'm in 5th. But, it's smooth and comfortable around 60 m.p.h. Not a great bike for long Interstate rides, but it's great for everything else!

    I haven't looked yet but someone on the website said there is a tool in the pouch above the battery that will fit the oil cap. I tried doing a ride video and there was too much wind noise. I may do another video now that I have rode the bike for two summers. My conclusion so far is that this is the best bike in it's class. I keep it on a battery tender during the winter. It starts and runs like a clock.....

    [[I haven't looked yet but someone on the website said there is a tool in the pouch above the battery that will fit the oil cap.]
    It has a couple of spanner wrenches. The filter should pose no problem getting off an any event. Worse case scenario (on all bikes, cars, trucks...) is to tap a screwdriver through the filter and twist. That's a last case scenario though as it's messy! Another thing you can do is use a rubber sheet to grip it that some people use to open stubborn pickle & jelly jars.

    The Kawasaki Vulcan is the cruiser industry standard now in 2023. Of course Harley Davidson started it, but like Fender basses some companies come along and build on the original to raise the bar. The Vulcan is AMAZING. I'll never buy another Harley again.

    Excellent review. I picked up my 2014 Classic back in May. I agree, it's a great bike with a big bike feel. I've added a highway bar, passenger backrest and a windshield. If there is a crosswind on the highway, the bike gets sideways shakes which feel like I'm going to get thrown. Do you have this problem?

    Bought one last month and I'm taking it in for its first 600 mile check up (oil change). This has been a great bike at both low speeds and high speeds; handles well. I have to agree that 55 to 65 mph seems to be its best speed. Compared to similar bikes, you can't beat the price, too!! I highly recommend it.

      ***** I have one also. Been a mechanic over 20 years. Remember these Japanese bikes have a short stroke and can out revv a Harley. I know in your mind it sounds like it needs another gear but it's really okay. The shorter stroke allows it to spin without a problem. I never go over 90 mph but it's good up to 105 I think.. That oughtta be enough?

    • @badchuckie

      Dave B yes the motor has no problem reving up. It would a more relaxing ride at freeway speed with an overdrive gear.

    The oil filler cap has a big slot so a regular flat bladed screwdriver might mark it. So I have a flat file that is almost as wide as the slot is long. I insert the file and then turn the file with vise grips. I just snug it up not too tight...... You could use a paint sturring paddle too...

  • @badchuckie
    @badchuckie  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    The oil is JASO motorcycle rated, doesn't have the enviromental additives that will damage the wet clutch. Also the Vulcan website has many members using it in their 900s so it is the oil of choice over Mobil 1, Purple, Amsoil and other synthetics. I changed to it at my 600 mile check up. The transmisson shifts smoother with it. I think Walmart is the cheapest place to get it.

  • @badchuckie
    @badchuckie  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the rice burners are smooth. Most cruisers are big displacement twins which are harder to balance than 3, 4, 6 cylinder engines. Harley's are the worst but then again they set the standard.

  • @badchuckie
    @badchuckie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That particular oil doesn't have the additives that will ruin or make the wet clutch slip.

    @VndNvwYvvSvv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't need a 6 speed. 4 is plenty for any motorcycle, especially an oversquare (large bore, short stroke) engine like this that can rev higher between shifts. The problem is the final drive ratio.

    I wanted to add that I really like your thorough review, I agree, the top gear does make you want to shift up. I think the bigger bikes have a 6 speed I assume the extra gear is at the top but I don't know. Also I appreciate your tip on the oil filter. I've been paying $15.00 at cycle gear! Good video, thanks.

    • @VndNvwYvvSvv
      @VndNvwYvvSvv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't need 6. That just puts gears closer together which means more busy work shifting. Even 4 is fine especially for bikes that rev like Kawasaki. The problem is the final drive ratio which wasn't designed for the interstate.

    I thought this Vulcan 900 might be an upgrade from my 2008 Honda Shadow Aero 750. But my Shadow will already handle 80mph with little problem on highway. Too many reviews are saying the 2009 Vulcan 900 struggles outside of 65 mph and winds out. Guess I’ll stick with my 08 Shadow for a while longer !!

    I own a honda silverwing and also seem to feel like 55ish is good cruise speed. at above sixty the wind is to much for me. That's for a wind tested bike too. Is 55 common cruise speed for bikes that are in the 500-600 pound cruiser range?

      My 08 Honda Shadow Aero 750 handles 65 -70 with ease. Even on local streets . It’s also between 500-600 lbs. I’m considering an 09 Vulcan 900 LT to be an upgrade, but I don’t like hearing about the winding out issue, at such low speeds (65-70 mph )

      Ive owned both , the vulcan 900 is bigger more comfortable, faster and better looking. Just an awesome bike, you'll love it.
