    I'm drooling over that Vulcan. I own a 2004 1500cc that's in the shop for next season, and I have another bike so I'm good. My buddy bought a Vulcan 900 Classic and friggen' LOVES it. He is an old rock star and done riding on the hills of San Francisco, and ready to mellow out on the back roads of Sebastopol to the coast on his Vulcan 900 Classic with his dog Coz'Moto in his coat along for the ride ! Vulcan 900's are some of the most legendary, fun, reliable, big yet not scary bikes ever made. God Damn the Japanese are tuned in to the human body.

    Thanks for the video. I have 3K+ miles on my, 6 month old, 2023 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT, I love the bike I added most of the mods you added, I need to get the jell-seat & backrest. I also had a, high quality, bolt on Trike kit installed, since I am a Disabled American Veteran, I can even pull a lightweight motorcycle trailer for extra storage.

    I'm in the process of buying a 2021 900 Vulcan Classic LT
    You made me feel good about this. I turned in a 2004 Vulcan Classic and it was always a good bike.

    Gotta say this was a great honest review. I have a 99 Vulcan 800 classic that's still strong and great to ride. In October I'm getting a new one. . YES A VULCAN

    I’ve got the lowers and you’ll be all set, no buffeting at all. Thanks for the great idea for the backrest... I couldn’t see paying $800 bucks for a Mustang seat. Only thing is just what you said give me a sixth gear.

    Great review 👍 I love the backrest for the driver! It should be a stock item. It's definitely my next farkle. I have had huge bikes over the years. The 900 Vulcan is all that I need. Not having all that extra bike weight means I don't need extra horsepower to unnecessary bike weight.

      Way to go! After 1-1/2 years and 10,000 miles, I still love mine. I would like a little more power, but rather than upgrade to a larger (and heavier) bike, I still think I will opt to put on a performance exhaust and intake, and do the Ivan ECU Flash. The only other thing that I wish I had are lockable hard bags, but I love the bike so much and think the stock ones look great and hold a lot so will just keep them.

    Two nice informative videos, thanks. For months I was researching motorcycles as a "returner" of 30 years, looking for a solid midsize, midweight bike. Kawasaki was always on my mind, memories from my teenage years well alive. I read many reviews, checked in to watch many videos on the subject, but always came back to the Vulcan. Your documentation helped me over the final hiccup. So I eventually got out and bought myself a couple of days ago a new 2020 Vulcan classic LT - waiting eagerly for better weather. Guess I got a very decent offer (winter price), wanted to go new after comparing all (well hopefully most) pro and cons regarding this specimen. As you know, this bike comes with all equipment as standard one needs to pay extra hard dollars for if e.g. choosing to mod a Vulcan classic or custom. I looked at other Japanese products, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki but couldn't find what I was looking for.
    I was checking Harleys or Indians (yes they make great bikes everybody knows) but asked me why to pay at least as much or more money for a bike already twelve, fifteen years old with 20 or 30 thousand miles or more on. Keep up the videos, they are helpful. See you out there!

    • @Bikergramp57
      @Bikergramp57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Congratulations! You won't be disappointed. I still love mine and can't find anything I would rather trade it for except maybe a new Road King which is just too overpriced.
      I even bought a Vaquero which was nice but when it came time to ride I found that I kept grabbing my 900 90% of the time. So I sold the Vaquero and kept the 900.

    • @Christian-xd3vg
      @Christian-xd3vg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Bikergramp57 I have the Vaquero on my mind, but that's for the future to see. I wanted to go reasonable this time and rather see it your way; it's a wonderful bagger, but also almost half a ton of weight to move around. At this point, I decided it would be too much for me. So I hope my Vulcan that's coming tomorrow will be a great choice and I won't be disappointed. But I'm confident, and again, I take it from your experience (as other owners before testified to it). Thanks for your response. Ride well and be safe!

    • @Christian-xd3vg
      @Christian-xd3vg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Bikergramp57 Little update after a couple of months riding my Vulcan 900. You were right, I've not been disappointed at all with this choice of motorcycle. It runs great, pulls strong up the hills, and in the twisties, leans gleefully in the curves, and feels physically more substantial as it actually is while it always remains nimble and "forgiving" to have 100% control. Easily go 80 to 90 mph on the freeway all day long if needed without discomfort or any other hiccup. It runs smoothly with some of the bikes propelling on bigger CC engines and it holds itself well considering being classified as a midsize cruiser among the behemoths brothers and sisters of the larger league (1700 + CC). Of course, those ultimate powerhouses sort of dwarf the VN900 as expected when on very long rides, or short bursts of speed acceleration, but they also demand genuinely much more dough for the overall upkeep. I really like my bike very much, and whenever I look at these always admired classic lines of yesteryear design are coming to the forefront it brings a smile to my face.

    I have a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic. Hard to believe a 2017 model looks EXACTLY the same. But they are a GREAT bike! First thing i changed out on it were the godaweful handgrips! Get rid of those things Dave and replace them for Kuryakyn Iso Grips. They're about $80 on Ebay. Can even get them with Throttle Boss for a few bucks more. Check em out. You will love em! Very stylish and takes out whatever vibrations. 👍😎🇺🇸

    I ride a 2009 Vulcan Classic LT and I really like it. The bike is great, my only complaint is it is a bit slow. It does pull well all the way up. If u are thinking about getting this bike go ahead and do it. Its a great first bike, but also could be a forever bike too. Over all it looks great, performs well, and is very reliable. Just wish the 0-60 was a bit faster.

    Kuryakan makes floorboard mounted highway pegs, I put mini boards on it. I could pop them out with my toe rest heel on main board and toes on mini.....or put my feet on the mini boards.......a bit expensive but if you're on a long ride
    I started with base model and turned it into a tourer with aftermarket bags windshield backrest, cost a little more but better....Memphis shades droptop windshield, cobra backrest with luggage rack and hardstreet hard bags which the ones I got were universal(coolest mounting brackets ever)and apparently no longer available
    Wish I had kept that bike

I keep my most-used accessories (power adapter, headset, mouse, etc.) in a plastic shopping bag in the computer case, so I can just tuck this bag into a corner next to the computer.

So comfortable now at all speeds.

    Hey Dave, thanks for an informative review. Couple of questions: The handle bar charger with the USB port, is it connected to the bike battery or does it use its own battery & what do you use for speakers? Is it easy to adjust the handlebars yourself? I enjoy a certain level of wrenching, but didn’t know if that requires torque wrenching. ...I’m going to research the Baron front pulley you mentioned in another thread. Ride safe & be well.

    • @Bikergramp57
      @Bikergramp57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The charger is wired directly to the battery. It came with a port as well to plug in a Battery Tender as a bonus. I only listen to my music via bluetooth earbuds. They have a volume adjust but I usually use my phone (which is secured in its holder on the other side of the handle bars) to change volume or tracks. The charger is also nice because I use my phone as a GPS at the same time so always having it charged really helps. The handlebars adjust very easily by loostening two bolts. I brought them back slightly so they are right where I want them. Along with the lower wind deflectors, the Baron 34 Tooth Pulley has been one of the smartest buys I have made. I can cruise now at 85 without the engine revving higher than I like (although I still prefer staying between 75-80). It made all the gears better in my opinion, and the speedometer is now accurate. From the factory there seems to be a 3-5 mph discrepancy, as with most bikes.

    Dave, good video! I just bought the 2018 LT and absolutely love it. Ive had it 3 weeks and put 1400 miles on it so far. We ride 2 up most of the time and the bike is handling the weight no problem. Lots of wind noise in my helmet which I hoped raising the screen would solve but not sure now after watching this. What is the break in milage? I am still going everywhere at 60mph?

      Hey Huntsville, are you pumped or what buddy. I just bought mine May 1 and it has 2600 miles thus far. I'm 65 and getting back into riding is having a blessed impact on my life. By the way, the breakin period is 1000. miles. Just stick to what the manual says and you will be great. I followed it to the letter. The first 500 was one set of numbers and the next 500 another. They noted top speeds and top speeds in each gear and the recommended shifting speeds. I love this bike. JUst bought a Suzuki C90T today for my son. It is 1500 cc and while more powerful not as smooth as our vulcans. Be blessed over there in Hunsville and watch my buddy's video's Hammereye85. He lives in Birmingham and his name is Jeremy and he is a great Christian man and an awesome Kawasaki Rider. He rides a Vaquero, His wife, Regina, rides a Vulcan 900 Custom and a 1700 cc Vulcan Nomad. I love his videos. He is a great guy and has really helped me out. Great visiting with you friend.

    I would like to get a second bike, I'm considering the 900 Vulcan classic. Anything over 1000 cc costs more to insure, 750cc or less is the more affordable (insurance) option. The 750 Honda shadow is a very nice looking bike, and is actually 745 cc. Honda's reliability is alluring, I have never owned a Kawasaki, bu the bike seems a good fit for me. The Suzuki Boulevard c50 also has appeal, It will likely come down to the best deal I can get. fuel economy is also a consideration.

      If acceleration is at all important, the Honda Shadow is a nice bike but quite a bit slower than the Vulcan.

      Acceleration is important, I was at the Honda dealership today, they also sell Kawasaki, and Husqvarna motorcycles. The sales guy said, "Honda Shadow 750's are GUTLESS!" The Rebel has been my first choice, but I’m frustrated by the lack of inventory, and I’m over the blacked-out look. I want some chrome and color. Would you still choose the Vulcan over the Scout?

      My youngest son has the Scout but I prefer my bike over his. His is much faster than mine (he has the 100 plus h.p. one), handles better, and is lighter. However, mine is way more comfortable, less expensive to maintain, and better looking (in my opinion). I am a big guy (6' and 250 lbs.) so look a bit silly on the Scout.

      If you want a bigger slugger cruising on go for the 903 classic lt, it is a wide, heavier, longer, all around more cruiser, and still fast enough on highway acceleration and permanent speeds up to 90 to 100 m/h (f needed). Best travel speed is 70 to 80 m/h. It takes you up the mountain slopes without any hickups and through the twisties with a bliss. And it is low maintenance, cost less in insurance and taxes (shy under 1000cc), needs less fuel on long-range riding (45/ 50 m/ga) with a 5.3-gallon tank.

I ask this because I was also looking at a 950 Tourer and dealer said they don't run synthetic because it makes clutch to slippery. I run it in my Suzuki but I don't know much about Kawasaki. I love to ride my 2012 V900 Classic LT, but is seems to be geared a lot slower than the one you are riding. I take day trips with the American Legion Riders, and have no problem keeping up with their HD's, unless we have to hit the Interstate.
    My bike's transmission whines in all gears - and I have found no references to that specific problem. The dealer said, "yes, they whine", but I'm hoping for a fix.

    The VN900 needs a different pulley ratio. Not the 32/66 stock but a 34/61. Ask a cnc shop to make them. (Stay away from the Barons 62 tooth because bad quality and zero warranty) You will ride a TOTAL different bike and enjoy longer gears. 2.Would it be possible for you to let me know if the Kawasaki bags mount onto the windshield with 2 bolts or just a centre bolt? Also, if it's not too much of hassle could you measure and let me know the distance between the 2 mounting bolts?
    3. I checked out the USB charger you've installed in your bike. Was the length of the provided wire enough to reach the battery tender? Also, has it lasted the entire season for you?
    4. Finally, could you provide a link for your phone mount? All the mounts I have seen in amazon seem to have reviews about breaking in a few weeks/months.

So at 80 mph, the bike is now revving as it did before going 75. This makes all the difference in the world on the highway. I now can also downshift to 4th for quick highway passing without over-revving. I also like the way first gear doesn't max out going just a couple miles per hour now, AND the speedometer now reads accurate. So I love it, but if money is an issue, I would tell you that I loved the bike before as well and was very happy.

      The 1500 adds 150 to 200 pounds. They will both be stable and you won't notice the weight difference unless you have to move it around in your garage, push it back from front-in parking somewhere, or if you have to stop fast and are at a slight angle. The 900 is very easy for these, but otherwise I miss the power, torque, and quickness of my former 1500 sometimes. If the weight difference doesn't bother you (it does me), and If you check the reviews for the reliability of the 1500 and find it is good, then you will probably be happier with the 1500. If you are buying used, then if you pick the 900, you will probably be able to get most or all of your money back if you decide to sell it and move up, so it may be a good choice to get back into the game. I have been tempted many times already to go back into a heavier, more powerful bike, but then I hop on mine and have the time of my life, so...

I bought a 2005 C90T Suzuki Boulevard today for my son and road it home for a 100 plus mile ride and man, those additional CC's did bring quite a bit of vibration. I tell ya Dave, I just love this 900 CC. The only complaint I have is the noisy transmission. Those straight cut Kawasaki gears, while strong as an ox are noisy. A friend of mine has one that he debaffled and it sounds great but I am not to pumped about drilling on my new bike. By the way, Dave, what a blessing, I bought this bike, new, 2016 out the door for 6699.00 The dealership is strugglling but starting to get some traction with a new GM. But, as an example, Dave, they have a 2016 Pearl White Vaquero that I almost bought and it is for sale for 11,500.00 OTD. Big time blessing. Ivan's own dyno reports an increase of 20% in horsepower, but mine seems like a whole new bike in terms of power and smoothness. It's now a hot-rod. I look at bikes for sale ALL THE TIME as a hobby. But so far I haven't found anything that I would rather have for casual day rides, mountain jaunts, or weekend get-aways. I added the lowers, and you were right Kurt, they are amazing. Best $150 I ever spent. Now I have little to no buffeting.

    Heard its rumored Vulcans do share the same breaks problem, if this is so true? If the breaks on this bike any reliable or else how can we improve them?

    • @Bikergramp57
      @Bikergramp57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have not heard of any issues with the brakes on this bike from anyone in the Vulcan groups I belong to or the forums I have seen. I have 7,500 miles on it now and they work perfect. Plenty of stopping power. Application is smooth and without any vibration or undesirable characteristics. The pads are hardly worn. I still love this bike. It's going in next week for its 7,500 mile service and check-up but other than needing a new rear tire (I'll go ahead and change both) the bike is perfect.

      @@Bikergramp57 okay thank you, ride safe. Just for in the case what the tyres would you recommended for street riding in CA, if you please. If the stock ones any good?

      @@Bikergramp57 for example Ive changed tyres on my Kawi Z900 from stock to Michelin road pilot 5 for I felt much insecure on the slippery city roads coated with copious layer of tar and fluids. Shall I attend to the same issue on LT?

      @@genuzz the stock tires work great including exceptional handling for a cruiser (in all weather), but they sure don't seem to last very long. My back tire REALLY needs to be changed. For the money, others recommend the Shinko 777's. They still handle well I am told, but last a lot longer and are similar in price to OEM. They are what I will be putting on.

    Do you have stock pipes on? How is the vibration at 85 mph? Does the bike struggle at that speed? Considering this as my next bike

    • @Bikergramp57
      @Bikergramp57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I still have the stock pipes. It will do 85 all day with virtually no vibration but mpg goes down considerably. Seems to be working harder than I like RPM-wise but everyone, including my Kawasaki Service Manager, say they are ok at high revs. I replaced the front pulley with the Baron 34 tooth ($135) and now it is fine at 85 and doesn't seem to be over-revving. On a side note, the fastest I've gotten this bike up to was 98 MPH (before I replaced the front pulley). The throttle was wide open and I'm not sure it would give me any more. I say that just to point out 85 was only 12 MPH away from max speed. One more thing; I have a Vaquero also, but I prefer riding my Classic LT. In fact I just put my Vaquero up for sale because I always seem to grab my 900 and my Vaquero doesn't get ridden unless I'm going on a long freeway ride.

      By the way, I should point out that you can add 2 into 1 performance exhaust, high intake air filter, and get the Ivan Flash, all for around $1,350 and add 20% more horsepower if you think you need that. I've been tempted but think I'm fine, at least for now

      Hey thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking of road tripping to Montana, where the highway speeds are 80 and up so just wanted to know if the bike can handle those types of speeds
