Thank you Ty for making the absolutely best mousse tire tool ever. I tried cheaper tools and I wish I would have bought this one first. Your products are top notch and worth every penny.
This is multi ply hard dez racing tire stuffed to feel like an 18psi fill. if you are throwing on a for example an FIM endure tire with a standard size mousse it far easier. This is an example of the hardest possible mousse installation not a typical installation. they were racing at high speeds from vegas to reno and getting away with minimal tire stops.
Great design, well thought out based on real world experience dealing with specialized off-road racing tires. Don't understand the criticism, this is not a everyday street tire but a specialized off-road tire which requires much more effort. Take what you can use from this video then move on.
this is the first time i saw a video with the legend of desert racing mr ty davis...he's forgotten more tips and tricks than i'll ever know....does he have more videos?
Um how have I not seen this tool before??? This is the best tire changer I’ve seen ( of course if it works like it is shown to work here) which I don’t see why it wouldn’t...
I’ve used lots of tyre changers Looks a good but I think the rim needs support at the bead breaker end looks lick that if you have a stubborn bead it putts a lot of stress on the rim and spokes . Good design for the track day but needs that support at the bead breaker end .
Good thought and design on tire changer. Love the use of receiver and tailgate. Wow as a Midwest trail putter never saw a mousse put off/on , not the easiest job for sure. So is the Damn Good Tire Tool something to consider buying? I would say you betcha!
Also this is not a quick change FIM enduro video its a take your time pit/shop/garage install tool instruction. However if you are doing FIM tires and standard mousses it can be used for quick changes as well, with only the standard compound bend irons and the bead spade on the lever. This is heavy carcass tire prep installation for a Finke or Baja 1000 type setup, not a timed quick change installation.
Vise grips is only for installing a RACING mousse, not a tube and tire. It's like installing a tire with the tube already inflated. Regular tire exchanges is far simpler and faster.
I like your tool but I like your methodology even better. I've watched a bunch of "install mousse" videos, and I still learned a bunch from yours! And vice grips don't bother me - they provide a bigger ramp than a Bead Buddy ever will. (There are ways to protect the rim for those worried about such.)
Back in the day, the good guys could change out a tube (off and on...with new tube) in the woods with 2 six inch long forged spoons, inside of 4 minutes. Now a mousse, might be different. But when you can change out a tube in 4 minutes, why not use a tube. If they needed to remove the tire completely, that was right about 4 minutes...off and on. Now in a shop, with lesser talented shop guys...this looks like a super machine.
Sure are lots of parking lot riders complaining about using vice grips. Obviously this tool ain't for your show n shine wheels. It's for mx and hard enduro racers who need something on race day at the truck. And yes ALL THE PRO TEAMS USE VICE GRIPS BECAUSE THEY WORK , trick is dont over tighten and not to loose.
He is putting an oversized mousse in a tire, not a tube! Most companies use undersized mousse to make their tool look simple. This is the real deal and is why you see this tool at the races used by the tire companies.
I can vouch for using a quality mousse lube. I'm not a racer but ride in AZ deserts with really nasty rocks shale and loose sand on top. Horrible conditions for grip. Without the lube we might get 6 rides before the bib starts deteriorating at a novice pace. With his stuff it lasted for 10 rides and looked brand new. It will help prevent friction burns on the outside of the foam but will not prevent foam damage from high compression due to aggressive riding. Overall it lasts longer by probably 25-50% depending on how hard you work it. At $160 for a bib that's a good investment.
This is an excellent tool but you may not have noticed he's servicing one of the most difficult tire procedures known, the bib mousse. It is NOT an average tire procedure. I've seen seasoned techs throw tire wrenches through the wall or pay someone else to do it. A bib mousse is basically a full sized closed cell foam tube that acts similar to a tube with about 8 psi in it. They work excellent for hard packed and slippery conditions you'd want maximum contact patch for. Imagine taking a tire off a rim with pressure in it. I have performed this several times on my KTM and friends bikes. It usually takes 4 spoons and zip ties to hold them against the sprocket, if nobody can help hold them for you. If the zip ties break you end up with a spoon embedded in your forehead or a few missing teeth :) This machine makes the process look extremely easy in comparison. I've been a motorcycle technician since 1991 and charge people $60 per tire to install bib mousse just because I hate doing them. This tool is actually very well made and adaptable to many sizes. Cheap machines have too much flex and move around making them awesome knuckle busters. Another hellacious tire is mini-moto tires. The smaller they are the less carcass is available to flex which makes them very difficult to spoon. This tool would work great for them. I've used Ty's tools in the past and can say with 100% confidence his tools are high quality US made tools, often times heat treated (appropriately), technician-ergonomic and last forever. They aren't the cheapest tool but are usually the best price for a high quality tool. They will last, provide excellent service quality, great leverage and reduce labor time when using them which is a big deal for a tech on flat-rate or the DIY'er that doesn't want to kill themselves with poor quality tools.
I don't know, man... I've started to think this tool is not for me when that vise-grip clamped the (soft and pricey) aluminum rim; but I was totally sure when I've noticed the need for an army of tire irons. Not gonna say this is not helpful, but it's clearly just for off-roaders who doesn't care about a few more scratches on their rims.
I believe there are other tire mounting systems that are specifically for street and or tubeless tires. I own this one and it works 100% better then how I used to do it.
so much for a legend was all that tire lube needed i can do what he just did with out the tire changing tool in a fraction of the time but alot more muscle
he even has a fuckin vise grip on the rim this dude mite be a legend in racing but let me tell you looks like he is struggling never seen so many tools needed to change a tire and tube
Lol i i do tire changes daily brother man in my shop with iut that stupid tool i ise my handy dandy motion pro beed breaker tire spoons lols and its super easy not even tryna bragg just saying
Damn Good!! ?? Seriously? lol,..Vise grips, 5 gallons of lube, tire spoons, screw drivers, pins, knees, legs, feet, lmao what else do you need to perform a tire change with this DAMN GOOD tire changer,...Lol, wow.
A Couple of Old Screwdrivers and a Butter Knife Would do a Better Job. lol Damm Good Tire Tool ????? Too Many Moving Parts . I have Changed Dirt bike Tires as Kid with simple hand Tools Quicker Then This Thing
Vise grips: ok, who likes marring rims, that's kinda fair. Seems pretty effective though and looks like it holds better against the tension than a bead buddy would. Big mousses are tough! Lube: Not for mounting, that's so the mousse doesn't wear hard in the tire. Gotta have it. Tire spoons: I'd like to see you change a tire without them. Rest of it: Yeah, seems fine.
Sorry my friend, but for the complex of the machine, the performance does not fit. On top the demonstrator made the demo very complicated. He even used his levers often the wrong way and using a visegrip on a fancy new rim is a absolute no no..No Sir,I can do better without a machine with the wheel on the ground./
Good god. I have never seen someone use so much gear and still be awkward using arms and legs trying to pop a tire back on. Watch some of these other videos on here to watch someone changing a tire properly.
This is a bib mousse and on a 6 ply desert tire it is a difficult process to say the least. Try installing a fully inflated tube into a tire sometime and see how easy it is :) You are comparing granny apples to mutated nuclear oranges.

Great presentation and the trick with the vice grips was brilliant. Unfortunately a 6 month wait list for the product?
this is the first time i saw a video with the legend of desert racing mr ty davis...he's forgotten more tips and tricks than i'll ever know....does he have more videos?
Matthias Schulze
Very good machine concept. All my admiration!
Um how have I not seen this tool before??? This is the best tire changer I’ve seen ( of course if it works like it is shown to work here) which I don’t see why it wouldn’t...
Most realistic moose changing video on TH-cam.
I’ve used lots of tyre changers Looks a good but I think the rim needs support at the bead breaker end looks lick that if you have a stubborn bead it putts a lot of stress on the rim and spokes . Good design for the track day but needs that support at the bead breaker end .

Got one today it is a great tool.
Damn, I wish I'd seen this thing before I bought the one I have
Excellent vid/tutorial....your product looks robust and well thought out! Do you all still sell the 8# buckets of mousse lube?
Vise grips is only for installing a RACING mousse, not a tube and tire. It's like installing a tire with the tube already inflated. Regular tire exchanges is far simpler and faster.

But will it work on Harleys and other touring bikes?
I have a roadking that is spoked how will that prevent the pressure of getting tire on and off from bending the spoke?
I want one do you ship to the uk👍
we really like this tire changer...well built..
sweet.. thanks for sharing Ty

when will this be available? This was posted 2 years ago and your website still shows (taking pre-orders)?????
Don’t waste your money

Didn't know there was a moose in the tyre.

Black rims using vice grip ?
im stuck at last spot i will try what you said.
where can I buy one of these ?
Can these airless tires be used on a Dual Sport street bike or would they get to hot?
RIP rims
Where do we buy this?
Where to buy, how much?
I like it ,what’s the cost on this
Ill take my bead buddy over vice grips LOL
What mousse lubricant are you using?
It's mousse soap, he sells it

OMG the poor aluminum rims! Vice Grips????
My customers would kill me.
Not ready for prime time.
How much
Man... this was painful to watch, Rabaconda smashes fuck outta this contraption.
why put a mouse in a tire anyway? does it run around causing the bike to go faster or what? I dont get it, what gives? 🤔
no flats
There is no lower part of the lever to be removed.
The problem is that the axle shaft is stressed.
who is selling these now? Website down!
ziptyracing.com.... I picked one up over the holidays
Vise grip on aluminum rim = epic fail
Ever raced with a mousse? Ty has won every off road motorcycle race in north America, including supercross champion.
So now I need to buy a truck........
Not required
So all you need is six tire spoons, a pry bar, a pair of vice grips and the tire changer ? Simple enough.. lol
but is this tire changer any good?
No it is not.Far to complicated in his system.A lot of changers are on the market easier and most likely sheeper,...

Apparently these people have never installed a mousse, this machine is a must

I have a similar machine but no need for tyre irons and it's alot quicker than yours
Damn crazy! He just destroyed the rim with vise grips and spoons not much bigger than screwdrivers!
so much for a legend was all that tire lube needed i can do what he just did with out the tire changing tool in a fraction of the time but alot more muscle
he even has a fuckin vise grip on the rim this dude mite be a legend in racing but let me tell you looks like he is struggling never seen so many tools needed to change a tire and tube
Wait till you try and put a mousse on with a brand new 6 ply tire. Won't happen without a tire machine like this
Lol i i do tire changes daily brother man in my shop with iut that stupid tool i ise my handy dandy motion pro beed breaker tire spoons lols and its super easy not even tryna bragg just saying
Vice grips, really, there goes good wheels, should use a beed buddy, you had me until the vice grips
I was shocked too.
a
Wow, it won’t let me view the replies.lol
Rim lock?!?!?! Ya mean VALVE STEM????
Amigo no tienes ni idea... Nunca hay que trabajar con las palancas más separadas de un palmo. El trabajo es el doble. Muy mal.
Damn Good!! ?? Seriously? lol,..Vise grips, 5 gallons of lube, tire spoons, screw drivers, pins, knees, legs, feet, lmao what else do you need to perform a tire change with this DAMN GOOD tire changer,...Lol, wow.
It's a racing mousse, not a tube and tire.
Show some respect for Ty!
Ya one slip with the leg over technique and smash goes his lug nuts :))

Wtf are you putting a visegrip on the rim edge.. hahaha.. 27 tyre irons and hands with 10 thumbs.. not very inspirational sham.
Too complicated

this is the shittiest tire change tool I’ve seen so far
