YES EXACTLY! when i first saw this i was thinking omg imagine how amazing this would feel to see a traditional performance like this on such a big stage if i was korean... i’m so happy for korean armys that the boys are so strong and loud about their cultural identity.
I think most Korean artists in that room must be proud of BTS at that point
because it is very difficult to mix traditional and ancestral rites into mainstream entertainment
Anyone can be good at what they do the best. But still BTS says whatever built you whatever legacy you are part of

I love K drama historical dramas, from the drums started to beat my chest filled with pride and joy as I recognized all the different dances. I am from the other side of the globe.
Jimin actually got a national dance award plaque for this dance. It was also mentioned that many people, as well as the press were stunned because the fan dance is usually danced by female dancers.

After that performance, Jimin trended no.2 worldwide (no.1 is bts ofc) but Jimin trending is like everyday thing before twitter muted his hashtag #JIMIN (the speculation is that #JIMIN was literally trending almost everyday with the amount of times everyone is talking about him everyday, his fans and his antis all the same lol. before twitter muted it, non fans even joked that the world could enter a nuclear fall out and JIMIN would still be trending 😂)
Anyway, the impact of Jimin's fan dance is resonated even after the performance.

+ The Korea Cultural Center in China used Jimin's fan dance video as part of promotional video of Korean culture.
+ Jimin's fan dance photo was seen on the cover of Weekly Gonggamissued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
+ Kim Ho Sung, an artist who is famous for his illustration featuring some of the famous people around the world, included an illustration of Jimin in his "Fun and Fan" exhibition. This exhibition also included an illustration of South Korea president, Moon Jae In and many more
+ MMA 2020 included a photo of Jimin in this performance in their wall of most iconic performances. He's the only member featured there, twice (the other one is his 2019 I Need U solo performance)
+ it's still being talked about in k-media and k-netizens when the topic is stage performances.
So yeah, that fan dance of Jimin is really something to be proud of 🔥

@@lilmochi2418 a great example was in the online concert of Map of the Soul:7, Jimin dominated trends by far, but due to his hashtag being muted, this wasn't shown. That's why the majority of news only appeared that JK dominated the trends, but it wasn't like that. I hope Big Hit and Twitter fix it.
lol yes they muted "Jimin and #Jimin". thats why at first his fanbases tryna contact twitter, but still bts and Jimin are muted on twitter. Thats why now he's trending with other keys such as Jimins, Jiminie or Park Jimin but didnt make it to everyday trends like before bcs most of non fans or even fans still used "Jimin" when mention/talk about him. 😂
Fun fact: There are fancams of other idols laughing at how much things were shaking in the venue because everyone was so hype for this performance lol

The whole story behind this performance is absolutely hilarious. They'd been receiving criticism about "becoming too Westernized" and "forgetting their Korean roots" right before this. I don't remember if this performance was put together on purpose as a response, but it became one either way.
It's like they went on stage and were like your neck? its mine now.
Of course it was on purpose!! They have creative ways of clapping back towards those haters 🤣
This was right after Kpop tried to push them out of the genre saying they weren't Korean anymore, but rather, they're global. BTS said "Hold my gayageum, bitch" and then came out in hanboks and did a show packed full of traditional Korean culture. This is my favorite Kpop "fuck you."

Opening graphics - representation of the ROK flag
J-Hope section - representation of Samgo - Mu (traditional drum dance) exemplifying dynamic flexibility and rhythm with a digniified uniform movement.
Jimin section - representation of Buchaechum (neoclassical fan dance) showcasing elegance and grace.
(as said in other comments Jimin received an award from the Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance Conservation Society.)
Jungkook section - representation of Talchum (Mask dance) which has origins based in cleansing rituals, protection and a good harvest.
band and dancers - representations of Nongak (farmer's dance) and Saja - mu (lion dance)
(the two dancers doing the barrel rolls as well as other members of the bands rotate their heads to constantly twirl the streamers on their hats.)
The background track was done with traditional instruments as a response to critics saying they have become westernized.

The costumes are modern interpretations of Hanbok, traditional Korean clothing.
The ending was changed to have Jin in the center because the performance was either on or around his birthday.

What a great New Years gift! Thanks SO much KoKo3op for getting @glow_with_ola to react to one of THE BEST ever performances of IDOL. FYI This was a Mega FLEX by BTS who with this dance were taking on haters who accused them of becoming too "WESTERN" as their reach was spreading to the US, Europe etc. AND you should know that my bias's JIMIN's fabulous FAN Dance is now LEGEND for two reasons: 1) Jimin's epic ground breaking fan dance blasted gender norms as the fan dance is traditionally performed by women, but he broke taboos with this dance & it was so beautiful it also blew Korea's mindset as well; and 2) The Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance Conservation Society presented Jimin with an award plaque of appreciation! On it KBB Fan Dance Conservation Society wrote, “By having reinterpreted the beautiful Korean fan dance in a unique way, you have made a great contribution in raising the status and aesthetic value of the Korean fan dance globally.” AND in 2020, the Korean Cultural Center in China posted a promotional video for Korean traditional dance on Weibo - which featured and highlighted Jimin's Fan Dance! THAT is why Jimin is MY BIAS - like he is yours @glow_with_ola!

So BigHit/BTS did an intro with 3 different types of korean tradicional arts, plus invited dozens of tradicional korean musicians/performers to their stage, while doing the song in tradicional korean outfits.
