    Great tutorial, my recommendation is to set your white balance to what you are filming. Having set to auto works but when a camera is set to auto it can decide to slightly change color in the middle of a shot. TY

      If you listened to what he said you would know why.... lowering your sharpness gives you more control over your image if you processing it. It helps preserve detail for further use when editing.

    Hi Tom, thanks for the video. There's a couple of things I don't really understand. Shooting NTSC in PAL countries seems like a strange thing to do. If I'm shooting a film to be shown on a 50Hz TV why would I shoot in NTSC at 30fps?
    Are you sure that shooting in UHD and downresing to HD improves quality? The bitrate remains 60Mbps so isn't the signal just compressed four times as much?
    Lastly, I'm not sure if I understand your explanation of D-Log. The standard image used by the Osmo must equate to REC 709; so D-Log is an approximation the LOG signal used by pro cameras. By flattening the gamma curve D-Log allows for more information to be stored in the dark and light areas of the picture. This effectively gives the camera more latitude - protecting detail in highlights and shadows - at the expense of requiring a grade to be performed on the film before it can be shown.
    Night shooting with the Osmo is a problem. I find that the image at ISO 3200 falls apart quickly due to the low bit rate and the colour bit depth being a paltry 4:2:0. I have to try using ISO 800 as you suggest.

    Nice review. Just one little mistake. The EV values do not always show the correct exposure. For example - the human skin is correctly exposed at around +1 1/3. So if you're pointing it at someone's face and it's showing a value around 1 1/3, then you have a correct exposure. Hope I was helpful. :)

    Vielen dank, Tom. Do you have some instructions as to when to use the 4:3 aspect ratio of either the Phatmom 3 Pro or the Osmo in order to take advantage of the entire sensor? Is that for doing things like shooting to produce HDR pics using RAW format, etc?

    so im in Australia, and we shoot pal and 50 hz. so i should change it to NTSC, and 60hz for a better frame rate?

    • @TomsTechTime
      @TomsTechTime  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Little LoveBug Photography / Cinematography Yes, you should. But be careful. You have to avoid the flickering that can be caused by electric light sources. Use a safe shutter speed and set everything else as shown in the video and you'll be able to film with 30fps in a PAL country. Stay tuned!

      +Tom's Tech Time
      Hi Tom, the tutorial says it's best to shoot at a shutter speed of 60 for movies shot at 30fps. But to avoid flicker, we have to lower the shutter speed to 50. So the verdict is that it's best to use a shutter speed of 50 instead of 60 for most cases to avoid flicker, right? Is flicker only a problem in dark shots? In which case the rule would be to shoot with a shutter speed of 60 during the day and 50 during the night. Did I miss something?

    I am going to Cambodia next week and this country is listed as using SECAM. Is this the same as PAL?
    What does the Auto in Anti flicker do?

    • @TomsTechTime
      @TomsTechTime  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ivar Johansen I think Secam is 50hz as well. Again, a little complicated, but doable. The Auto Antiflicker? It simply never worked for me... I would make sure and choose a setting myself. If you want to make a hundred percent sure you can of course choose PAL. But you won't get 30fps that way... Stay tuned!

    I've seen in forums that while recording the Osmo, as is standard breaks
    up videos into 4gb files. The issue some people are noticing is that in
    between finishing one file and starting the next there is about a 2 second gap where all footage is lost. This happens at around the 10 minute mark on 1080p recordings and the 4-6minute mark on 4K recordings. Have you experienced this issue at all?

      +Dji Leon Hey there, in your case I would rather compare the DJI Phantom 3 4K (has the same range as the Standard but a 4K camera) with the P3 Pro. I do not recommend getting the Standard.
      Because of their 10th anniversary DJI dropped the prices and I would look forward to a UAV that supports 4K.
