So glad I found your review - very detailed, professional, and in my view "honest". At this point I'm opting for the pocket 1 not because it's cheaper, but because it suits my needs more. Thanks for this brilliant comparison 👍
I watched your video today around 3pm at 6pm I was in the store and bought it ... The best review I've seen for the osmo pocket2. I am a photographer and cameraman for weddings, I wouldn't believe how many times I put the eighth pocket somewhere on the side, on the floor, on a speaker, on a tripod where no one sees it , and got video that pleasantly surprised me ...
If you want great ambience audio to match with your PKT 2 recording, here is my suggestion but it will cost you a little more. Get the Zoom H1n Portable Recorder with Roland CS-10EM In-Ear Recorder. That's what I use to record ambience sound. It's available on Amazon. Just a suggestion if you are critical with recording ambience sound. It's portable, light and handy.
If you are an audiophile, you shouldn't be relying on the onboard audio. You should connect a quality external mic, or better yet, add an external recorder as well and then sync the footage to the audio.
@@petrjouda3332 every cameras had poor audio, that is why they make external microphones. I use it with the rode wireless go 2, and it's still pocket size 😁
This is probably the best comparison video for these gadgets. I have the 1 and been wanting to get the 2. But after watching this, I'm glad I didn't rush into it.
Your voice narration is ‘Excellent’!!! I think I’ll keep my Pocket 1 instead of upgrading, for now, since I’ve only had it a few weeks. Besides, I like warmth. Great video.
Absolutely excellent in depth review! I love my Pocket 1 as my travel discreet video camera. On holidays and situations I do not want to attract any attention as a tourist abroad, I have realised that I pick this camera up way more than either my GoPro or mirrorless camera. I often end up with the Pocket and my iPhone as my video & photo cameras on the go. Amazing for motionlapses as well. The better low light, dynamic range and wider field of view are attractive but not sure if they’re worth an upgrade yet. Let’s see if DJI release a 3rd generation of this really cool and useful little device.
@@wittmorgan8023 Both the 1 & 2 are great as-is for a small pocket on the go option that won't get you beat up & robbed as if you where to pull out or whip out an iPhone or samsung in some regions of the city. As for quality? Like you said the 2 is really 1.2 at best. Yes, you get a wider shot with the 2 and get a bit more saturation & light through the twos camera sensor. But this defies the purpose of cinematic shots right off the box. You noticed that the osmo one did a much better job at cinematic shots with low light straight out the box. Thats because for a cinematic shot you want those shadows and that gradient shadow to blend it and camouflage certain imperfections. Vs the osmo 2 where you have so much light and so much fine tuned detail that all imperfections pop out both in skin and back ground meaning now you have to go back to post to color grade and tone down these imperfections. In other words the osmo one does a much better job blending in everything and hidding the imperfections of skin and background due to the low light sensor overshadows vs a super bright clear picture on the osmo 2 which is what you really don't want for cinematic shots if your not into post production go with the osmo 1. You can add ND filters to both cams if you still want extra effects. But i like raw cinematic footage out of the box. So i really avoid camera sensors that collect to much light and details.
Killer comparison. I own the OP1 and can’t afford an OP2 right now. I was wanting to upgrade but I don’t feel like I need to upgrade yet after watching. I think I can wait, the OP1 still does a great job. Really great job going so in-depth. Thanks.
Have to say I prefer the output of Pocket 1 most of the time but I do lean towards darker exposures! I hope the Pocket 3 will be a bigger upgrade that is objectively better.
Thanks again for this second review on these cameras 👍 It’s really hard to decide, they both work really well. I like things about each camera, I ended up ordering the pocket 2 though your Amazon link 👍 I make videos also, I completely understand the time and effort it takes. Thanks again for these helpful videos! Take care
Thank you so much for being supportive like that. Yes, they are both great cameras. I think you made the right choice with the 2. I looked at your channel and want to congratulate you on your success, both with your TH-cam channel and with being mechanically gifted.
Thanks for the great review. Question from a newcomer, why would you need WiFi for a camera if most people use it for filming? Are there any advantages to a camera having WiFi capabilities?
I normally don't leave comments or like videos. With that being said... this was by FAR... the best comparison, well thought out, very nicely done video that answered EVERY question I had and then some. You did a great job! Well done!
I think if you have the first one, keep it. I have it and after seeing this I think the only real positive for the second one is the wide lens and the sound. Which tbh I don’t really have a problem with either on mine.
Mesmerizing video. Congratulations that took a lot of creativity. This video is the best camera review I have seen in a long time. Probably the best ever as I can’t think of anyone who had a better product review than your video and I do see a lot of them,.
I've got the first, and I've seen no reason to want the second. What I want is for them to revisit this again with an m43 sensor/lens. They have them, but it never really went mainstream. I think that was due to its price and lack of brand familiarization. I think if they put in the marketing into a newer version, one that's cheaper and ready to go out of the box, it would be a success.
This review itself is a art. Those cinematics and everything you cover is the only thing I was looking for also that soft low voiceover makes it more satisfying. Thank you.
Just had to comment to say how it's so nice to see a video like this without some ridiculous razzmatazz-y 2 minute intro that everyone else thinks is absolutely essential. You get straight to the point and it's so refreshing to see. Great info and you definitely earned a sub!
Great comparison Video , very helpful. I would stick on to Pocket 1 since technology wise (Tracking etc) pocket 1 is good. Getting a wider lens would help pocket 1 to match the same quality of pocket 2.
We find so much "influenced" reviews anything, and is so fresh to have somene not become an idol, being clear and straight to the reasons with instant proof. You also separate comments from facts, as when you say "I personally like ore XXX", many reviewers don´t even acknoledge the different from opinion to what you see in practice. Congrats, bro!!!!!!!
This is definitely the best comparison of both on TH-cam, I'm comparing the two because here in Brazil the pocket 1 is 1.600 R$ and the Pocket 2 is over 3.000 R$, which is literally another 6 months saving, I'm probably going with the first model to be honest, the difference is huge in both terms.
I like the Pocket 2 but it's not worth double the price of the original, in my opinion, especially when the original has better tracking and a lens focal length that many people prefer the look of. I think the Pocket 1 will probably serve you well.
Absolutely brilliant comparison, I can see a lot of work went into this. Even an infrared shot of the two cameras, great detail. I have bought the Pocket 1 today from CEX as a grade A, £170 and 2 year warranty. I am a fairly new TH-cam tech reviewer, I am going to use this mainly for B Roll for product shots and possibly some cinematic shots. I have a studio light aswell so I'm keen to see what overhead product shots are like. The low light performance of the Pocket 1 looks much more inferior to the pocket 2, shame there are a few niggles with the wifi and object tracking on the 2. Once again great video, you are very talented mate. 👍
I honestly love my pocket one, if ever I’m not satisfied or want a wider field of view, Amazon sells an attachment to give you a wider angle which looks cool. Plus the latest firmware updates have improved the video quality quite a bit. I bought mine in perfect condition from somebody for $100!
This was not only helpful and informative, this was the best quality and edited video I have seen on TH-cam. You deserve so much more subs. New sub here
Thanks for the review. Think I’ll still pick up the 2! FYI for the resolution, the 2 has a 16MP camera, not 64. The 64MP thing is a special mode which combines multiple exposures into a higher resolution image. I’ve seen this misconception in a few places, so they probably didn’t make the marketing of it all that clear,
Great comparison video, I have owned an Osmo Pocket for about a year and love it. When the 2 was announced I started thinking about getting one but wasn’t sure it was worth it. In your comparison I could definitely see the reasons for each. Example I like the more dynamic range in the 2 as well as its ability to deal with light better (anyone who has the original picket knows it’s horrible in dealing with light without an ND10,000 filter haha) but at the same time there seems to be more natural contrast with the original. My final take on the comparison is have both, you won’t be sorry.
I really really relly liked your clips filmed against the light, and with clouds high in the sky. That's the way we can precisely evaluate the sensor performances. GREAT!
Luckily they are small enough to be able to keep both version 1 and version 2 in the bag and choose each one for the times when either version is the better choice. I love the 26mm field of view for filming things in front of me, but the wider lens for filming myself. Both focal lengths are equally desirable. So glad the original controller wheel works on both versions. I must be odd because everyone else complained about it, but I love that it switches between pan or tilt and it gives much smoother pans or tilts than a joystick can. It is rare for me to want to go diagonally, but the joystick is now there for those times. BTW. I love the modularity. I keep bits and pieces in a tiny case and prefer them there than built into the camera making the camera unit larger and heavier.
Wow....Best comparison ever. Amazed by the comparison you did. I have two remarks(plz check):- Technically: 1) Elephant grass shown in comparison probably marks Pocket 1 above in terms of video quality, because of pocket 1's higher crop factor, thus giving it an advantage of sharper footage due to apparently shallower depth of field. 2) Shaky footage of pocket 1 shown in the beginning must be due to its apparently higher focal length again, due to crop factor, while pocket 2's lower focal length (due to bigger sensor), seems to be the reason behind more stable footage.
@@iancraig like it already had a cinematic filter. Like u already edit the colour grade/setting. No need to setup the colour grade anymore. To me that noob in colour grading, pocket 1 cinematic was super good
I am very serious about purchasing a DJI...And i think i will go with the Pocket'1 for the time being...I am planning on taking it to SE Asia for a few months ...I plan to buy all the accesories that come with it including a batt'pack.....You gave by far the BEST review i have seen...Thank you sir for enlighting me 😊
Very good review, thanks. I have Pocket 1 and now I understand - maybe I will buy only Pocket 3 or 4. Between 1 and 2 not too big a difference to change it.
Hey Roo, I’m a curious hybrid, while I’m a newbie, I’m also a real oldie, having only jumped into videography during lockdown. Because of the isolation all my learning has been via reverse osmosis on TH-cam, so to unravel the mysteries, I’ve looked at every version of everything, and I got to your 1 versus 2 comparison after all the others. I initially thought, not another one, but then I decided to give it a quick run through. I’m glad I did. You’re extremely thorough and a great communicator. Objective, fair-minded with soothing voice. Thank you.
Thank you for this comparison, most helpful. I have the pocket 1 and thought of upgrading to pocket 2. I shall consider the points you raised and see where that leads me. Best wishes.
AWESOME video!! Thank you so much. May I ask what exactly is the grip you are using at 0:27 ? Much appreciate this beautifully shot, entertaining, and thoughtful review!
I was on call and I watched this video on mute the first time; I ended up liking the pocket 1 footage way more because it doesn't look like the footage came from a tiny camera; I am basically selling my prized GoPro hero 4 silver and was choosing between pocket 1 or 2 for stabilization and walk around cam. I think I'll go for pocket 1 and buy a wide-angle adaptor with it instead. On my second watch with volume, I loved your character and narration overall, such an entertaining and insightful review man keep it up subscribed. P.s goes to show how opinions of the reviewer affect the viewer's choice I might start watching reviews on mute from now on xD.
Such a good comparison video, I wish more videos were as informative as this one. Great work Roo! I look forward to the Pocket 3 and will probably go for a Pocket 1 for now
thank you for this video!! I watched many, but after seeing yours I know pocket 1 is my best choice. I want to shoot jewelry videos with bright light so all the features of pocket 2 and the extra tag price makes it not necessary.. thank you very much!!
Very good video 👌 I think the wider angle of the poclet 2 might be the main reason for his better stabilization (wider = steadier) and for the better tracking in the pocket 1 (less objects in the frame and better 3d perspective). I didn't know about this audio zoom feature, this is a very nice touch imo 😊 I have the pocket 1 since the first day it came out, and for me, I wouldn't upgrade yet. Sure wide angle would be better for vloging, and the microphone on the otherside would be great. But otherwise, it's an amazing product, and for me the 64Mpx would actually be a downside since I found already the files too big (compare to my Sony A7III). Also the codec is kind of harder to work on in FPCX. Thanks for your woek 🙏
Another great review. I'm not really a gadget person but as said, have bought one of these and watched a few reviews before it arrived and after. I have to say your review is the best I've seen. Informative and thorough and interesting. Keep it up.x
Great review. I have the Pocket 1 and was considering upgrading. This has convinced me to keep with it although there are some great improvements with the Pocket 2. I just bought a controller wheel instead. Nice to see you are holding on to your Northern Ireland accent, it made you easy to listen to. Well worth subbing your channel.
Top class review! I noticed a comparison of JPEGs at 08:40 done indoors. In these lighting conditions, digital cameras boost ISO (sensor sensitivity) which creates noise. Both shots become blurred to some level. So, to compare sharpness of two DJIs, you need an outdoor shot (cameras drop ISO to minimum). Also, they have different focal length, so it is necessary to shoot from longer distance using DJI 1 to match DJI 2 image. But it will be a pixel peeping here. I believe they're both sufficiently sharp. I think the review is very good!
wow, 2021 and this comparision is amazin, new subcriptor. You voice, the music, the girl model, location, all was amazing in this review. Again, congrats.
I have an Osmo Pocket, I would probably have no choice except an upgrade if anything went wrong with my Osmo. Both look pretty good. I am totally OK with the Osmo Pocket. Bother are a disappointment in terms of connectivity and ergonomics. Lack of tripod mount, no bluetooth or wifi, and a "add on" joy stick or wheel ... all negatives. Compared to the competition from other manufacturers, you can put up with the deficiencies ... the Osmo Pocket or Pocket 2 would still be my choice over those. Nice review, appreciated all of the good examples.
Hello good comparison, For me the colors are more faithful with 1, the 2 has a blue cast and it shows a lot when you shoot the snow with 1 it is white with 2 it is with blue cast
I think your videos are great. I love your VO style too. I'm lucky to own lots of cameras. The pocket 2 is a convenience camera. I use mine for quick family & friends video (less so stills) I haven't noticed some of the issues you mentioned, though I do setup manually. Tracking is poor and I hope a firmware update fixes this soon. Tracking only works in lower quality modes, and that's annoying. Sound is okay. If sound is important I'll generally record on a separate device, but perfectly okay for fun. ND filters are worth using, and close-up macro lens - I bought one for fun, but surprised me with its resolution. The pocket 2 is instant gratification and I love the easy to carry tiny form factor. Thanks for an awesome review 👍
Thank you so much for this review! I was having a hard time choosing, but the tracking and connectivity made all the difference and i will be getting the pocket 1
Only just got around to watching, since I recently bought an unused Pocket 1 at a greatly reduced price. The wait for the right price has been justified by your comments concerning the slight performance differences. Something you didn't mention is the hand held panoramic foto ability, from which I have had excellent results without having to use a tripod. Nice review
I would buy both just cos the lens seems so different and they could perfectly work together in production work once exposure is even. IS seems better in pocket 2 due to wider angle lens and the DR/exposure is nicer, so is low light work. nice work!
I have the pocket 1 and I always struggled unless the light was just perfect. I love it, but kinda wanting to sell it now and upgrade. It looks pretty good in low light.
Film in the daytime 😆 low light is for rare exception or if you specifically need to film in low light you need completely different types of camera gear. That's a good enough reason I guess if it suits you but it's the exception not the expected norm to be weighted against. imo .. 🤔
Incredibly helpful comparison, thanks! I’m new to the Osmo community, just ordered my Pocket 2 a few days ago. I hope the weak points (especially tracking) will be addressed in firmware updates!

1) Elephant grass shown in comparison probably marks Pocket 1 above in terms of video quality, because of pocket 1's higher crop factor, thus giving it an advantage of sharper footage due to apparently shallower depth of field.
2) Shaky footage of pocket 1 shown in the beginning must be due to its apparently higher focal length again, due to crop factor, while pocket 2's lower focal length (due to bigger sensor), seems to be the reason behind more stable footage.
Yes I think your assessment is probably correct.
@@Roos-Reviews Thanks 😊...Keep up the good work 👍🏼
The Pocket 1 footage is more cinematic than the Pocket 2.
I don’t understand what this means. How is it more cinematic?
yes i have to agree
@@iancraig like it already had a cinematic filter. Like u already edit the colour grade/setting. No need to setup the colour grade anymore. To me that noob in colour grading, pocket 1 cinematic was super good
Agreed!
Yesss
Very Complete Review. Thank you so much!
Wow.. I really appreciate your comparison. It's point full and accurate! You bring quality on the net.
I'm happy to have found your TH-cam Channel.
Thanks a lot!
I am very serious about purchasing a DJI...And i think i will go with the Pocket'1 for the time being...I am planning on taking it to SE Asia for a few months ...I plan to buy all the accesories that come with it including a batt'pack.....You gave by far the BEST review i have seen...Thank you sir for enlighting me 😊
Those slowmo shots were brilliant. Kudos to you.
One of the best comparison video I have seen on pocket 1 with Pocket 2
Probably the most comprehensive review I've ever seen! Awesome work! Definitely buying the pocket 2!
Thanks very much!
Great comparison review, and excellent editing/narration 👍
Thank you.
Thank you very much for that, Jim. I appreciate the kindness.
Thank you for this comparison, most helpful. I have the pocket 1 and thought of upgrading to pocket 2. I shall consider the points you raised and see where that leads me. Best wishes.
Your comparison is very technical, nuff props to you! Thanks much bro
Very elaborate, unbiased and helpful review. Thank you!
Wow. I can't believe how good this review is 🤩
Thanks
AWESOME video!! Thank you so much. May I ask what exactly is the grip you are using at 0:27 ? Much appreciate this beautifully shot, entertaining, and thoughtful review!
Thank you. Yes it's a Pergear tripod, a Neewer dual camera mount and the red plastic part is a 3D printed holder.
@@Roos-Reviews Oh awesome, thank you kindly. Keep up the great work!
A very insightful comment. Thanks. I might watch some camera reviews on mute before future purchases too.
Such a good comparison video, I wish more videos were as informative as this one. Great work Roo! I look forward to the Pocket 3 and will probably go for a Pocket 1 for now
Thank you! The Pocket 1 is still a beauty.
5K ! - Go Roo!
These popular device topics are throwing you in the algo.
It seems that way, yes.
thank you for this video!! I watched many, but after seeing yours I know pocket 1 is my best choice. I want to shoot jewelry videos with bright light so all the features of pocket 2 and the extra tag price makes it not necessary.. thank you very much!!
I'm happy it helped. That sounds like interesting work.
Bro insane review. All categories where great.
Very good video 👌
I think the wider angle of the poclet 2 might be the main reason for his better stabilization (wider = steadier) and for the better tracking in the pocket 1 (less objects in the frame and better 3d perspective).
I didn't know about this audio zoom feature, this is a very nice touch imo 😊
I have the pocket 1 since the first day it came out, and for me, I wouldn't upgrade yet.
I think the review is very good!
seems only the bigger angle is the benefit as a first gen owner and just casually filming person. Thank you for the video. really helpful :)
The most honest review and comparison I've ever watch. Thank you bro and I also subscribe to your channel and I like it
wow, 2021 and this comparision is amazin, new subcriptor. You voice, the music, the girl model, location, all was amazing in this review. Again, congrats.
best comparison on the web. Exact, full of details. I ran out of information about additions and amenities regarding add-ons for both versions.
Very informative video. I appreciate your hard work and time that took to get excellent comparison video❤👍📽📸.
Nice review, appreciated all of the good examples.
excellent comparison, hitting the points I was interested in such as low light performance. Thank so much.
amazing video, no nonsense, superb narration, everything you wanna know
Its feels like im listening to a podcast, you have a really nice voice! 👍
Best Comparison of these 2 cameras period! Excellent Review!
Thanks!
I use mine for quick family & friends video (less so stills)
I haven't noticed some of the issues you mentioned, though I do setup manually.
This is like a graduate school research level comparison!
Thanks!
Dude... Mind blown on this review. Very well done!
Thanks
Thank you for this thorough/detailed comparison!
Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for the review. I will definitely buy Pocket1! Pocket 2 I don't like greenish video colors.
This guy's better than overrated MKBHD and others. What a review and hard work he put into! Recommended!
Thank you so much for this review! I was having a hard time choosing, but the tracking and connectivity made all the difference and i will be getting the pocket 1
5:54 Love that part! It’s like a scene from ‘Drive’ the movie. Great song btw 😍.
Nice review
Ah yes, the 3x3 and and ultra wide panoramic mode is very cool. I covered this in my Pocket 1 review, I think.
This is very comprehensive review. Thanks.
I would buy both just cos the lens seems so different and they could perfectly work together in production work once exposure is even. IS seems better in pocket 2 due to wider angle lens and the DR/exposure is nicer, so is low light work. nice work!
Greatest or Perfect Review Doesn't Exist
*This Guy - Hold my Review 🔥
Haha
Great side by side comparison - thank you very much!
Keep up the excellent work!
Best best best review! I think I'll stick with my Pocket 1 for now. Probably next year I'll upgrade. Thanks.
Still waiting for the 3
2 years later, same here!
This is a great review and one of the better ones I've seen. Great job.
That's a good enough reason I guess if it suits you but it's the exception not the expected norm to be weighted against. imo .. 🤔
I love your detailed review. Coundn't wait to see your review on Pocket 2 vs Pocket 3. Do keep me posted bro.
Thank you! Yes, if the Pocket 3 does come out you can bet I'll be testing it.
This video was FANTASTIC!
Thanks very much!
Incredibly helpful comparison, thanks! I’m new to the Osmo community, just ordered my Pocket 2 a few days ago. I hope the weak points (especially tracking) will be addressed in firmware updates!
does the firmware updates get resolved tracking issues?
liked and subbed! This is a really really good video, one of the best I've seen on youtube! What's the music at 6:00?
Excellent Video bro.... see you soon at DJI Pocket 3 ya ? 👍 P.S. you have good voice... comfort to listen...
