    This was awesome....I’ve had my cricut explore air 2 for over a year....and i’m only just starting to use it! Well, beyond the initial sample card, I mean. I was incredibly intimidated and overwhelmed when I first started looking into all of it. So, I put it to the side and continued on w some of the other hobbies I’ve picked up....what began as me wanting to learn how to make a decent sketch so that I could THEN learn how to paint, has jumped from painting to resin pours to metal stamping to rock tumbling (so I could have semi precious stones polished for the jewelry I was starting to make of course!). I’ve done acrylic painting and watercolor and paint pouring and I’ve even started pyrography.....well, right now i’m just kinda burning doodles into wood scraps! I have An art room organized into sections to do every kind of painting to jewelry making to using old furniture to make new art pieces. I have ADD and OCD mixed w/ an overactive imagination. Plus, the last 9 weeks have also given me far too much time to look for new things to try. So instead of looking for something new I pulled out something I had already....but it’s still basically brand new! Coming across your tutorial here was by chance and it was perfect timing too! I was about to purchase what I would need to make bonded fabric....honestly I didn’t even know what that meant as I’ve never done any kind of sewing. I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes or ar least a bag or even a simple shapeless dress....just to be able to have the ability to do it was intriguing. So bonded fabric sounded like a type of fabric I needed to buy. I didn’t realize it was something that I needed to do to the fabric. I’m excited to see what else I can learn from you and some other incredible crafters and artists i’m watching. I didn’t mean to write so much....9weeks in my house w my husband and 2 sons is making me more wordy than usual. I really did enjoy watching! I’m still trying to create a simple design and figure out how to keep my cricut from trying print. I have a long way to go......

    I just used a full sheet of sticker label paper to stick on the back of my cotton fabric. I tried freezer paper but it kept pulling the fabric while trying to cut.. So tried this method. Also cut twice in a row just in case it didn’t cut. Cut perfect...woohoo. I’m going to try your double sided too cause I’m out of sticker paper right now. The sticker paper goes on easy and comes off easy. I’m cutting mask fabric. Love it. Now to start sewing. Thank you so much, great video and great teacher.

    • @Matty06001
      @Matty06001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take the freezer paper off before you sew! Two bad things happen if you try to sew with freezer paper on the fabric. One, the freezer paper will be nearly impossible to get off once you've sewn it on, and if you do manage to get it off then the stitches will be way too loose, because the thickness was there before and now it's gone when you remove the freezer paper. I learned this the hard way.

      @@katieodonnell-vicente6632 Hi! I just saw that you had responded. I'm just curious what the best way to go about precisely cutting silk with a cricut would be.. I just ordered the fabric blade.. What would you suggest using for making the silk a bonded fabric to cut it well? Thanks!

      I would only cut it with my maker and rotary blade!

    Have you used this method with stretchy fabric?

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sarah States I have not! Stretchier fabrics would be a little harder, heat n bond would probably be better for that but it’s definitely worth a try!

      I've used freezer paper with stretchy fabric, but the blade seems to rip jagged edges through instead of cutting, and it's also a real pain to pull the freezer paper off because the knit fabric stretches so much. I'm definitely going to use heat and bond next time.

    Can this be done with Cricut Maker? Thanks!

      colors4u you don’t need to stabilize your fabric with the maker because it has the rotary blade!

    what kind of freezer paper are you using?

      Micki O any should work, I believe I have Reynolds brand

      Great thanks. I’m not sure if you can tell me but I wanted to make masks for the medical field, for the shortage that’s going. I wanted to know if the freezer paper would make the fabric stiff? I just need it to help me cut the material.

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Micki O it makes it stiff to cut with the explore machine but then peels off so you have just the fabric pieces

    • @micki630
      @micki630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Katie O'Donnell-Vicente so the stiffness is just there when it cut but after removal it will be fine, is that correct?

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Micki O correct. If you watch the video you’ll see how easy it perks right off and doesn’t effect the fabric!

    Does it matter if it's plastic on wax on the freezer paper

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll put the waxy side of the freezer paper down, that’s what will help it adhere to the fabric

      @@katieodonnell-vicente6632 sorry, I meant "or" because mine is plastic not wax. Also I have the explore air 2 and was wondering if I needed a different blade

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      colleen JAY you cannot use wax paper because it is waxy on both sides, you definitely need freezer paper. As for the blade you can use the fabric bonded blade like i did or a regular blade, they’re the same just different colors to designate

      @@katieodonnell-vicente6632 yeah this is a scam i had 5 regular blades in stock only to buy two fabric blades, come to find out they are the same thing.

      Mick Matias they are the same. The fabric one is pink only to differentiate but I wrote fabric on the packaging of my regular blade to do the same thing.
