Olivia has been taking voice lessons since she was 4 or 5 and then doing singing competitions. Her vocal coach I think recommended her for acting so she got into commercials and then starred in an American girl doll movie, had her own Disney show Bizzardvark and then moved on to HSMTMTS where her singing started to blow up. After season 1 she released drivers license and the rest was history. I’ve been following her since HSMTMTS

She started on Disney but opted not to sign with them. Instead she posted videos online and Dan Nigro found her and they’ve been making great music. Not going with Disney has given her a lot of creative freedom in her music and her life.

I love what you said about her voice being so beautiful and so good at conveying emotion. That's probably my favourite thing about her, how soulful and emotional her voice is. As well as her songwriting and rock sound. Glad you delved into her music!

You should react to Olivia's live performances! She always has a live band with her (female band!) which I think is what makes her even more special nowadays. Live music plus great vocals sets her apart from other pop singers.
Noah Kahan's Stick Season album is also really good. Songs are mostly mellow or sad though.

Love Love SOUR but GUTS is also something else, more mature, lyrics wise and better production. Absolutely love both and all her other unreleased songs + Disney songs + 4 bonus songs in GUTS
The 10 minute version of All Too Well by Taylor Swift would be a good place to start to showcase her song writing and story telling.

Came here to say exactly this. I think what you respond to most in Rodrigo - the lyricism and story telling - will make you like Swift quite a bit. I say this as a recent convert to her myself. I had zero use for and little knowledge of her prior to 2020.
I’d suggest you do the All Too Well 10 Min lyric video version first. The music video/short film is spectacular but I think it will be too distracting on a first listen. But definitely watch it. From there I’d recommend you go straight into Midnights and work backward.

@@timzgraggen98 Same! Yes she is labelled as a singer who appeals to teenagers - but her (Swift) lyricism and witty wordplay, as someone who loves literature, to me, I think she could pull a Bob Dylan and win a Nobel for her songwriting.

Taylor Swift Reputation album or 1989 are so good
the only album of taylor that i like a lot of tracks is 1989. So i guess that's my suggestion. Although i have not listened yet to the re-release version.
taylor almost every time chooses the wrong songs to be singles tbh, her songs are great, i would really recommend listening to her, maybe reputation, midnights or 1989 albums
If you ever want to dive into Taylor Swift I recommend you starting with the Reputation Album
TS voice is just mediocre, nothing special, but she's a good writer though.

I think you should totally do Taylor Swift. If you want something closer to how Olivia Rodrigo sounds, I would do 'folklore' or 'evermore', which showcase Taylor's songwriting the most. If you want something really pop driven there's 1989, or something that goes harder, I would do Reputation. Taylor's catalog is really diverse, it's just that most of her biggest commercial hits are very pop-py and get overplayed, giving them a bad rap. Even a few of Olivia's songs interpolate some of Taylor's.

I love Olivia and seeing her in March, but Taylor is an elevated version of Olivia in terms of lyrics and musicality. Olivia actually borrowed the piano melody from Taylor for 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back. If all you’ve ever heard is her radio friendly stuff, you’re really missing out.
She interpolated the track so Scooter wouldn’t get any money from it, with permission from Taylor’s team. And no Taylor is not an elevated version of Olivia. They are their own people and Taylor has so much more experience. Too unfair to compare.

Taylor's radio hits don't define her entire discography. I bet the ones you've heard "on the radio" are Shake it off, We are never getting back together, and the likes. Taylor is a lyrical genius. And like olivia who may not be a vocal powerhouse, they both can emote with their voices. And FYI, Taylor Swift is Olivia's biggest musical inspiration. She's said it multiple times on instagram and interviews. Lastly, Olivia is nowhere near Taylor's success SO FAR. Taylor is the biggest musician right now and one of the most successful ever.
Yes, I wouldn’t define her just by those songs in that aspect I’m just messing around. I want to give artists I wouldn’t usually listen to a chance that’s why I said if you all wanted to recommend an album of hers I would listen. Any album in particular you’d recommend to start at?
@@WesLinkz If you listen mostly to heavy beats or hiphop slash trap tracks, Reputation is a good album to start with. But disclaimer, each songs has a lot of hidden meaning to them. I mean all her song does, but yeah. If you wanna tap onto different sound, I recommend her Folklore and Evermore album. She released folklore in 2020 and 6 months later, released Evermore. I think it's her best written album. But if you wanna start with 1 track, I recommend the All Too Well 10 minute version which also has a short film which she directed herself. The song is rumored to be about Jake Gyllenhaul the actor.
