the song lacy was originally a poem, she took a college poetry class last year and she and her producer, dan, turned it into a song, and it's soooo amazing like the writing on lacy is just incredible- it's about envy/jealousy
Do you think it is about Sabrina Carpenter? Many of Olivia’s fans think it is about her especially with the Bardot reincarnate line (Carpenter did a photo shoot where she pays homage to Bridget Bardot). There’s also the bullets on skin line (Carpenter has a song called “Skin” which was supposed to be a response to Olivia’s “Driver’s License “).
@@84Canaan nope I do not think it’s about Sabrina. I think it’s a common feeling we all feel. Everyone has a “lacy” or has had one in their life. Someone in their circle or they casually see at school or work. The person we see as easy going, outgoing, everyone looks, etc. idk if the song is inspired by just 1 person for Olivia or if it was more of a concept of a universal feeling.

get him back has a double meaning- in the whole song she keeps contradicting herself (kiss his face, with an uppercut key his car, make him linch etc.) but the title is also a double meaning- it could be get him back as in get back together, or get him back like revenge. that’s why she said i wanna get him back, and then i wanna get him back

The ending is his producer’s baby. Her producer is always recording because he does’t want to miss anything. Apparently Olivia has good ideas that just pop up spontaneously in the studio and he wants to capture them. I think the inclusion of his baby at the end is because the last song marks the end Olivia’s teenage years (at 19, now she’s 20). Having the baby is like a reminder that her youth has ended, tumultuous as it was, and how she will now transition into adulthood.
That's what I also believe but I heard that Olivia posted a video of herself when she was a little girl and she said that the little girl (herself) will be in her song. I think she's the little girl not Dan's baby in Teenage Dream

I love this album. I wasn't too big into Sour, although I loved it, I couldn't relate as much being 38 at the time. Guts though? Holy crap. The production, writing, all excellent. I got a feeling of 90s grunge/alternative and 2000s Pop/Punk. Definitely what I listened to in High School so it is awesome she's bringing it back!
I really liked this too. I haven’t listened to her Sour album so I’ll probably give that a listen next. But I loved the vibes on this as well with her own spin on it

GUTS is such a fun and playful album but also has like a hauntingly sad vibe to it that's the way i like to describe it, it's definitely about growing up and that feeling of reaching the end of your teenage years but i can't imagine being in olivia's situation having such a huge and successful debut album, and the pressure that would put on her when creating her 2nd album and also she gets sooo much hate for absolutely no reason, it's rly sad but she's so talented and i'm gonna continue supporting her for sure
olivia writes ALL of her music, she's an extremely talented songwriter by the way, it's how Dan-- who is listed as a co-writer and produces all her songs discovered her, she used to post her songs she writes on her instagram while she was on disney, etc.

also I’m not sure if you caught it, but the song ‘making the bed’ is referring to the phrase “you made your bed, now lie in it”. she’s unhappy with how she’s spending her time, but she’s also the one in control of what and who she spends her time with. she dislikes her fair weather friends, but she’s choosing them as her company.
though, it could be a double meaning with ‘none of these people are here for me after we go out and party’.
six of the sour tracks are explicit, even in drivers license, which was her big viral song, she says “I still fucking love you” lmao
Great candidate for AOTY. I always loved the sound of 90s - early 2000s pop rock so it’s an instant turn on to me.
But the selling point here is her songwriting, she’s good at making the listeners look at her lens (like what Taylor is doing). You can understand where she is coming from and I think it is really is a skill that only few in the mainstream can do

I am a huge fan of this album and just want to say how much I admire you expanding your horizons and giving GUTS a fair and honest listen! Takes a lot of self awareness and growth- so mad respect!! I hope this video helps to open the minds of many other men with a similar upbringing as yours!

From my understanding of "Lacy," Lacy is supposed to be a metaphor for the "perfect girl" and the song is a poetic song about envying the idea of the perfect person.

The guy she sings about in Logical is the same guy she sings about in Vampire. They dated for six months and it's fairly obvious that he gaslit her to oblivion and back. A professional narcissist.

Logical has soo many inspirations. She got the "logical" term from her friend sharing her experience saying, "it's not logical. It's just not logical." So she wrote a song about it and inserted some of her experiences as well. But then this song has Julia Michaels writing as well. It's a fruit basket
Many of her fans believe the song is about Taylor Swift they had a falling out due to Olivia being forced to give 50% writing credit and royalties to Taylor and team for the song “Deja Vu”.
Sold me for parts can be referencing giving up those credits and bleeding dry losing money for giving up to 50% of royalties. Only come out at night a reference to Taylor’s album “Midnights”. “The Grudge” is another believed to be about Taylor. “Lacy” is rumored to be about Sabrina Carpenter.
