Thank you very much for your helpful comments and video. The air filters have activated carbon in them which is to absorb odors. the outer white membrane is for particulates. I agree with you that the LG filters are way overpriced. There are lots of exact replacements available on Amazon for a fraction of the cost.
Thank you, I purchased a water filter didn’t know I needed an air filter till I watched your video. I was about to buy an air filter when I decided to watch your entire video and I am so glad b/c I did not buy the air filter taking your advice :) Thank you ❤
Thanks for the video. The LG tutorial mentioned turning off the water valve, which seemed unnecessary, but they didn't provide instructions on how to reset it afterward.
It's the carbon on the air filter that absorb bad odors (not that it does a good job). Some car cabin filters have carbon in them and just cut to size like you said.
My new refrigerator looks very much like yours. We just went through the 'change filters' cycle on ours. If you choose to not change the filters, I'm not going to say that is wrong, but I was able to by a package on Amazon with 3 each water filters and air filters for $28. Since it seems they only have to be changed once every 6 months, I'm not going to argue.
I would always use the air and water filter much longer than after the change filter light comes on, because of the cost for replacing. I long ago needed to change the filter, and my fridge begin to have an odor. In addition we experienced a don’t drink the tap water for 24 hours advisory in my area. Once it lifted, I figured this would be a good time to throw out the ice and change the filters, which I did. Long story short after changing the air filter the odor was gone in the fridge. I think it’s something to be said about the charcoal filter’s usefulness. So now I just count the cost of a new filter in the household budget. Even though I will not be changing them every 6 months as suggested by LG. I think a fresh filter does make a difference.
I thought the same thing with the air filter. I couldn’t tell the difference between the old and the new. That small air filter was more expensive than my vehicle’s air filter!
Dial this is the temporary fix how would I would definitely go with what can manufacture recommends. There are a lot cheaper on amazon thanks for watching
Thanks for the helpful video. Just changed the air filter. Old one was darkened so I’ll continue to replace it regularly. Also there was a slight odour in the fridge which I hope will go away now and maybe it is my imagination 🤪 but the ice cubes started to have a taste. 😖. Recently changed out water filter.
I agree 100% with the air filter. I did find them very cheap on Amazon maybe four or five dollars each but I don't think it does anything. I think it's a pure gimmick!!!!
L, I did the same thing, didn't twist the fresh air cover and broke a tab. Question is where can you find replacements, have looked all over with no success. Thanks.
As long as one can tolerate a dryer sheet, then why not? It won’t absorb odors but might hide odors with a scent. Hopefully not transfer its scent to any food. I would lean towards unscented if I could tolerate any dryer sheets, not chancing a chemical odor getting to any food. Even onion in a thin storage bag can spread its odor in a fridge. Maybe a charcoal sheet cut to fit and change it. As the cover on my air filter wasn’t the right one when brand new and it came installed where somebody took the charcoal filter out of the frame and just inserted it. With frame it would not fit. And frame protects the delicate filter from breaking. Later, through T the LG app took them up on ordering a free cover that would work with the air filter and complimentary filter. Price on amazon for filters makes ordering them affordable and can stock up. Arms too short so I have to stand on something to reach the cover, and be very careful taking off the cover. We got a long fine without an air filter so I can’t imagine not bothering to use any filter would harm the fridge. Not promising that as a fact.
Thanks for your input... this was more of a temporary fix, do to prices.. since then they became more affordable..I recommend going with manufacturers request... Amazon much cheaper
Save a lot more money: Don't buy LG filters! They cost 5 times as much as other replacement brands that are every bit as good, if not better. I just bought a 3-pack of PUREPLUS air *and* water filters for $48 on Amazon, and I bought the most expensive model of water filter; I could have spent only $35 for their base model of water filter, but for only $13 more I'll have better water filtration for 18 months! That's $35 or $48 for both 3 air filters *and* 3 water filters. And as for the air filters not looking dirty, I disagree with Lbridges about not changing them. You may want to stretch longer than 6 months; that's your call. But these aren't like your home furnace filters; they're not going to get caked with dust and lint. The purpose of the filter is primarily to absorb odors into the activated charcoal. You won't see odors. But once the activated charcoal has absorbed all the odors it can, your refrigerator and freezer will start to smell of food odors. Replacing the air filter is how you avoid that. And these filters are so incredibly cheap, just do it. You can buy a 12-pack of PUREPLUS LT120F air filters on Amazon for only $22.49. That's only $1.87 per filter, and you'll have a 6-year supply! Plus you won't have refrigerator odors. Just my opinion...
You wont ever see a difference in the air filter because its not filtering dirt, its only filtering odour thru its carbon. Although i do not know how long the carbon actually lasts, but i heard heating it recharges it, but id do some research on that first..
Thanks for your message. At the time, it was a temporary fix until they made em cheaper to buy on Amazon . I would prefer going with manufacturers recommendations
This is quite possibly the best video on TH-cam regarding the LG water and air filter change. Don't feel bad, I broke my air filter holder, TWICE.
I can always count on the university of TH-cam to figure out what it is I need to do with whatever it is I’m doing. Thanks my dude, you helps a bunch

Dryer sheets have bad chemical that probably shouldn't be used as a filter. I'd suggest washing and drying your filter
Thank for tip ..ill use that for temporary fix with them being cheap and Amazon.. I also suggest The manufacturer's recommendations
Thank you brother for your video
