    When we bought our new LG refrigerator, the water filter twisted in without efforts. We immediately bought another filter on eBay. This replacement filter also twisted into locking position with one hand. We bought another one on eBay but this time water leaked and we thought this could be an aftermarket product or a faked LG water filter so we throwed it away and bought one from LG. Same water leakage. At last we found this video and using both hands to force the turning into the locking position. No more leaks. Thanks to this video.

    Thanks for this video. Some additional things that helped me. Read the manual(Maintenance, Water Filter). Color in the arrows on the Filter Head, with a Sharpie/Ink marker pen. Especially, the alignment arrow on the Filter Head. The manual mentions an alignment arrow on the filter body. This is arrow missing on the new LG OEM filters I have purchased. The filter body alignment arrow, is the notched tab mentioned at 3:20 minutes in the video. I marked the notched tab with the marker pen.
    When inserting the filter, align the arrow on the filter head with the notched tab on the filter body. Push the filter straight in firmly, one hand on filter and one hand on the door. When the tabs on the shoulder of the filter body, touch the filter head, rotate the filter clockwise, 90 degrees.

    This is an EXCELLENT video! We spent so much frustrated time on the phone, first w someone who just kept reading through a manual, then to get another person. Finally, the 2nd person we got sent one video where it was on the top, back left of the refrigerator, then actually did send us a link to this video. You stressed that you needed to use two hands & turn hard.
    We'd been unable to successfully change out the filter. Because of your video, my husband applied even more pressure, still a bit concerned about breaking something since it's all plastic, but then something clicked & pressed in further. It was done & perfect! Seriously, thank you SO much! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Can’t stress enough how hard you have to push and twist at the same time for the in-door replacement filter to totally connect. It is unexpectedly difficult and worked best when I braced the exterior of the door against my body and pushed against the door while pulling the filter towards the housing and turning at the same time. Other videos said to reposition the tabs inside the housing but I didn’t need to do that.

    Your suggestion to push in while turning firmly is what helped me. It is a shame that the LG manual doesn’t say this. I was reluctant to put too much torque on the filter for fear of breaking the plastic parts. POORLY WRITTEN MANUAL as is too often the case!

    i have a question, a few little plastic pieces broke off when i took off the filter door for the first time, is that normal? The first time i took it off it took a lot of pressure and not as easy and you showed in the video. however after those 2 little pieces broke off it was extremely easy to put on and take off filter door. not sure if this was supposed to happen as again i’ve never taken off the filter door before. if possible, am i able to send you a photo of what my door looks like now and compare with yours? thanks !

      watching you put on the door i think i broke both corner plastics hinges. will this affect the fridge at all?

    • @LetMeFixIT
      @LetMeFixIT  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@missivivi7848 Umm...it should be ok. I mean it's just a cover so worse case, put some tape on it if it's loose! Sadly you may have broken it so maybe you can glue it back on? If you're game, you can heat up the plastic with a soldering iron and then fuse it back on. I do this with my 3d models all the time. Make sure to wear a mask and be well ventilated!

      @@LetMeFixIT Thanks for doing that. What actually happened is the small plastic connector piece inside of the housing that turns so the filter will no longer fit unless the piece is turned back to the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position. There is one youtube video out there that shows how to fix it but you have to shave the molding off the old filter and re-insert the filter to turn the plastic plastic connector piece to the correct position. I think with some models the housing piece needs to be the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position. Took some digging but I found it. Thanks for your help!

    I have an LG refrigerator. Is the filter keeping track of how much water has been through it or is the refrigerator using some type of clock to measure out 6 months? More importantly how is this measurement affected if the power goes out?

    • @LetMeFixIT
      @LetMeFixIT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The filter is just a filter so the fridge is tracking it. I would assume it's something simple. You press a stream of water, it calculates how long you've pressed it and reduces the counter till you need to change it. If the power goes out, it doesn't count or give water.

    I have that refrigerator coming in four days, I’ve been trying to review everything I can on it. I have a question though, Will the refrigerator work make ice dispense water without the indoor water filter installed, reason I’m asking is I have a whole house water filter purify system, the Kenmore refrigerator that I’m replacing I was able to omit the filter since it would be just redundant I don’t need it,

    • @LetMeFixIT
      @LetMeFixIT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it will not. I tried this and water went everywhere lol. There is an item you might be able to get which is for an older model (a bypass filter) - it's essentially a piece of plastic that plugs up the filter slot. However, I haven't found one that fits this model (and they don't sell it).

    • @mattheww8059

      @@LetMeFixIT Thank you for getting back, that’s a shame, well see if I’ll be able to three D print something or sacrifice a new filter by cutting in half guttered out and fill it full of food safe epoxy, then insert it in as you would a new cartridge change,

    Do you have to turn the water supply off 1st?

    • @LetMeFixIT
      @LetMeFixIT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tested, with this fridge, no. When you pull it out, it will expel some pressure but it will hold the water in. However, I suggest turning off the supply first as safety precautions. I also tested what would happen if I press the dispense button with the mains on and no filter...you guessed it, the water goes everywhere lol.
