Love watching your progress. I am confused tho, how can you have your preamp set to 60db as in other videos and then hit the tube tech CL1B as that would surly push the input to distort ?

@@SamiDaComposer I came from an mxl 990 into a focusrite 2i2, to a u87 into a BAE 1073 and Apollo x8. There is a HUGE difference. Ultimately the mix is greater than the sum of its parts. I am NOT saying that great sounding mixes cannot be made from amateur gear in NON suitable environments, I’m saying that the sonic detail of the vocals in particular will never be the same as your favorite artists BECAUSE of the gear. No matter if you’re using a slate VMS emulation or UAD mic pre emulation, it lacks specific magic of gear. probably should have been more specific in hindsight, but considering it’s a vocal chain video I figured I already was. And in terms of the actual MIX itself, matching the top mixers sonic signature is not achievable without gear. It is impossible to mix like Mike dean without his specific outboard gear. Alex tumay is a clean mixer who only recently (last 5 years or so) started using outboard gear (culture vulture, unfair child etc…). Great mixes are always possible from any equipment

The best equipment won’t matter if you don’t know how to use it. If you can’t make a focusrite and a Rode-NT1A sound decent, then you have no business buying more expensive products imo.

She is happy using what shes got and it's working She is having some succes and can spend her money on what ever. I recently spent about £5000 on gear, I can make do without, I just rather spend My money on music related then have it just sitting around.

Ok, reading all the haters, I have to say having followed Reid and Karra over the recent years, they work hard and invest in gear because they’re devoted to their art. Unless I am wrong, they aren’t rich folks without a clue but a couple with a shared passion for what they do. It’s choices right?
