I just tried this recipe and a regular Hamburg steak recipe. This recipe was more moist and soft and held together better than a Hamburg steak with just meat. I love it!

Sutan was off to a great start almost immediately. That little episode of her and the lemon gave me cause to darn near fall out of my chair because I was laughing so hard! The look on her face was the most priceless thing I have seen in a long time! Then tossing it into the sink and wayving bye-bye was all it took! I had to stop the video several times and play that part over before I could continue. Watch out or she will become the star of the show! LOL This recipe is slightly different that mine. You use tofu in the mix. I've not seen done previously. I've also never seen tumeric in the recipe so this will be an interesting change. I think this will be the special for our weekly dinner party this evening. I use panko bread crumbs instead of regular or flavored ones. When I want something with a bit more flavor I put some finely chopped Thai peppers into the mix before making the patties. I still leave the chopped onions in but, I use the red ones for more flavor. I steam the hambagu with water as you do. However, on occasion, I pour in some saki and finish steaming it with that. It really adds to the flavor and the alcohol burns right off. Although, since my youngest is 32 years old it's not much of an issue. LOL In addition, I have found that Tonkatsu sauce works well as a substitute for Panzu sauce. I've even used my spicy Teriyaki sauce on occasion, too. Sutan has learned a new word and is having fun with it! I know I was enjoying watching her repeat oishi over and over and over. Obviously, you were happy with her efforts, too. She certainly has a fantastic mother. I think that I speak for us all when I say that we are going to have a wonderful time watching Sutan grow up with you as her guide.

Ikr its late to put a comment here, but the way you made the meat was easier than what my japanese friend taught me LOL Anyway for those who live abroad (well, in Europe mostly cause I live there lol), live alone, and your house is far from asian store. This is tips for making sauce like Ponzu sauce : used barbeque sauce, tomato sauce, mayonnaise. Stir 3 of them with butter and put a little amount of water to reduce the sticky texture. Also, its up to your preference but you can substitute water into red wine while cooking the meat. I hope its helpful. Send much love to Moe and Sutan 🧡
