Orders new one on Amazon then returns POS device for FLIR to deal with. This kind of device should not fail. “Pro” my ass

Remove the battery and solder a cable to the 5v power supply from the usb...it works well....100% battery every time...

That's a damned fine idea, I always wondered why these needed a separate battery and were not able to utilise the phone's battery

Really frustrating that this is such a big issue with a device as expensive at that is.
    Thank you for the tutorial!

I have a Flir scout and the battery won’t hold a charge, I called Teledyne and they wanted $300 to repair. What a shitty product.

EU should manufacturers from selling this type of devices with such bad & small battery lifespan.
I reckon with USB-C the device could be powered on by the phone itself if needed be. But this would of course hurt Flir's sales as one consumer could purchase only one camera per 5-10 years instead of one every couple years because the battery dies out.

Has anyone been able to find 3rd party software that works unlike the useless Flir software?

I found I didn't need to completely remove the two internal screws, just loosen them enough to push the end of the panel clear of the battery connector.

Mine died after one or two hours of use. Tried charging it for many hours but it would not take a charge or it would show it did charge but discharge within a minute. What a cheap thing. Really disappointed with Flir.

Hello, I had the same problem. I'm from Brazil.. Did you manage to solve it? I sent an email to the authorized one and they said they don't do repairs, just buying another one.

@@giovannialmeida5244 hello there! I am an electrical engineer, so I feel comfortable replacing the battery myself.
Also, if you have a power bank, you can connect it to the charging port and then connect the Flir to your mobile.
The power bank will provide the power so you can still use the camera. It’s not idea but at least it can still be used this way.
I used a long cable so I can put the power bank in the pocket.

Good afternoon, friend! I share the area, I'm an electrical technician. However, I have seen many reports that just changing the battery does not solve it, as there is a chronic problem. I've been watching a video of the guy arranging for the flir to be loaded directly on the cell phone, when plugging in.@@diavalus

@@giovannialmeida5244 ah, good to know replacing the battery is not solving the issue.
Good that you mention this because I was also thinking to just power the Flir directly from the phone. I would rather have that than charge the Flir separately.
It is kind of disappointing that Flir sells such a product, especially because this issue is going on for a few years now.

@@diavalus Don't even talk, it's a total embarrassment. To give you an idea, I bought it in 2018, I believe. The first one had 5 months of use and presented this problem. After a lot of contact, they had me record a video breaking the damaged flir and sent me another one. And after a few months the same thing happened. Since then, it has been sitting in the closet for years. Now I decided to look for other complaints that at the time I couldn't find.

I have the same issue, the battery is causing issues using the app presumably. So i opened up my Flir to change the battery i purchased on AliExpress... 15 EUR for the battery. Worth the try. But I completely agree with you, this flimsy 'flatpack' cell is not an ideal solution for a pricy device like this. Seen someone put a fullsized 18650 Lithium cell on the outside of the casing here on youtube. Yeah, that also adds weight and it prolongs the use for each charge alot ;-)
